Virtual Windows 7 machine with 4GB RAM

I'm currently upgrading my iMac to 8GB RAM, I have a 2.66GHz processor , will I be able to install Windows 7 in a virtual machine using VMWare Fusion 4 with 4GB of dedicated RAM?

Sure, why not.
Depending on your usage you might wanna rethink the amount of RAM you assign to the Fusion Windows VM.
Windows 7 runs quite well with 2GB for example whne you usage is the more "Office-like" one.
Keep in mind that the amount of RAM you assign to a Fusion Windows VM is not avaiable to Mac OSX until you close the Windows VM and Fusion.

Any suggestions, or fixes, as to why I have to rebuild my library after EVERY shutdown? I am running the latest 10.6, 2.92 ghz iMac core 2 duo, with 4gb ram. Install went well, as far as I know. No other problems. I fear, that unless I fix this, when I upgrade to a new computer, I will be taking the same problem with me.

So if you start Aperture do some stuff in it, quit, then open Aperture again it starts up OK but if you then quit Aperture, reboot your machine and start Aperture it stalls?
You're internal drive is getting close to being overfull your at about what 18.5% free space (some we'll say it's already overfull). You might what to think about freeing up space. If you weren't having any troubles I'd say it was fine but as you are experiencing problems it is something to look at.
While its been doing the processing have you been able to open the activity window in Aperture? If you click on the spinnig gear (not the beachball)  when Aperture is busy you can usually get the activity window to open.
Other then that not sure what else to recommend at this point.

    Please advise...

Ensure the computer's RAM is fully seated down, and then try resetting the PRAM by holding down options-command-P-R at boot. The computer will make the boot chimes and then reset and chime again. When it chimes the second time release the keys and let the thing boot normally. Hopefully that will let it recognize the RAM.

  • I got a MS-7253 k9vgm with 4gb ram and W7253VMS.180 BIOS but I only can see 3GB

    Hi,
I have a MS-7253 with 4gb ram recently installed on it but in bios memory check state it only shows 312something KB (3.2GB) and BIOS is the latest one.
According to MSI's site, this motherboard is supporting upto 4gb. I've turned off the on board vga as well and my vga card is an nvidia geforce 8400GM.
the funny part is windows 7 recognize the whole 4gb but it says I only can use 2.8gb of it.
whats wrong with my M/B? is there any other update which I'm not aware of?

    Thanks for your reply,
does that mean there is no chance for upgrading ram to 4g? or by BIOS update I can do that?
I have found another BIOS update newer than what I've got from this link:     https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=153338.0
just in case if I screw my BIOS can I revert it back to what it used to be?

  • Sharing p4014n printer on windows 7 machine with XP machine

I have installed a Laserjet P4014n on a new Windows 7 machine with the USB connection - I allowed it to detect and install the drivers automatically.  The printer works great on the Win7 machine.
I shared the printer and would now like to have an XP machine also be able to use it for printing.  However when I add a printer and I browse out to the shared printer on the Win7 machine,  the XP machine gives the error:  "The server for the HP LaserJet P4014/P4015 PCL6 printer does not have the correct printer driver installed.  If you want to search for the proper driver click OK.  Otherwise click Cancel..."  I tried to find the correct driver (.INF) file on the CD that came with the printer, but it does not seem to like any of the files on the CD.
I have tried to install on the XP machine the drivers using the CD that came with the printer, but because there is not a printer connected, it will not install.  I have also downloaded the XP drivers (PCL6 and Universal Printer Drivers for PCL5 and PCL6)  for the printer from the HP website, and tried to browse to those when installing the drivers but it still cannot find a file it likes.
What file should I be looking for on the CD or downloaded files for XP?
I also tried to add additional drivers on the Win7 machine but again can not find a file that installs from the CD or downloaded files.

i am having the same problem. the printer is installed on a new windows 7 computer and we are trying to share it to a windows vista computer. did you figure out how to get it to work?! we r getting very frustrated!!

  • Will my MacBookPro3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz with 4GB Ram run Mountain Lion?

Hi everyone. I have a MacBookPro3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz with 4GB Ram — will it run Mountain Lion? My hard drive has 615 Gigs of free space. If so, is it worth it for me to upgrade? Will all the new features be available to me. Presently I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53). I heard that there is an update 8.1 out there with developers as of yesterday.
    Thanks.

    Hi John.
Yes, an erase and install sounds like a good idea. I just need to check my Adobe CS5 software to see if I need to upgrade the suite. If that is the case, then I may need to put it off for a bit. Thanks so much for your help.
I have a newer MacBook Pro at work, but usually wait to upgrade it, till I've been running it at home on my personal computer for a while. Would hate for it to mess up my production schedule.
Thanks again and have a good evening.

You should change it to allow mixed authentication. You can do this in SQL Server Management Studio under Server Properties -> Security.

  • Is the apple laptop with 4gb ram and i5 better than other laptop with 6gb ram and i5

is the apple laptop with 4gb ram and i5 better than other laptop with 6gb ram and i5

Well it depends on the age.     http://www.everymac.com/ should help you identify the age of the two models.
Apple may use two processors called i5, but newer models have different optimizations than older models.
The processor is usually not the main affect on speed.  RAM helps, but barely unless everything is on an SSD already.   Hard drive speed is usually the limiting factor of speed on computers.   eSATA hard drives with higher RPM can often yield the fastest results because notebook hard drives tend to be slower that are not SSD, but for those you need either Express/34 or Thunderbolt based adapters.

  • Windows 7 not booting with 4gb ram

    Hi!
    Situation:
I installed Windows 7 via Bootcamp. On 2gb ram (2x1gb or 1x2gb doesn't matter) windows boots fine.
I upgraded to 4gb ram (2x2gb) and now Windows is not booting. As far as I know, it's not even getting in DOS.
There's just the cursor blinking into infinity...
    What I've tried so far:
Installing windows with 2gb and ugrading to 4gb.
    Installing windows with 4gb
Tried the 32bit and the 64bit version
Found a 'solution' on the web making me boot in safe mode in order to change the maximum ram windows accepts.
Attributed more gb to the windows partition
I'm out of ideas, what do you think?
    regards,
    Massimo

  • Windows xp not recognizing 4GB ram

I am upgrading a computer from 2GB to 4GB ram. The BIOS recognizes the memory as 4GB dual channel interleaved, but when I get into windows it only shows 2GB.
The OS is Windows XP SP3
there is no onboard video controller
dxdiag tells me video card is an nvidia 7800 GTX with 256MB of ram.
I read about the video card address space issue but it doesn't account for the difference. It should still be at 3.5 or 3.75 GB available to the system.
I have tried enabling the /PAE and the /3GB flags in the boot.ini file one at a time and together.
I have also tried manually setting virtual memory to a different size as well as disabling it.
    Any ideas?

  • Virtualized Windows 8.1 with Hyper-V as a home PC?

    Hello everyone,
I'm getting ready to reimage my Windows 8.1 home PC as it has been unreliable of late and I simply don't have the time to invest troubleshooting the various oddities of its behavior. Since this is something I tend to do somewhat regularly, though, I began
to wonder if maybe this time I should do something different. I'm considering installing Hyper-V and configuring a virtual machine to use as my daily PC, then making that machine's virtual disk my bootable volume.
I know this probably isn't ideal but there's two big reasons that make this sound like an attractive option to me. First and foremost, I tinker with my PC all the time. As a consequence, I break things on a regular basis. That's usually fine, but eventually
I simply want to get on with using my PC and so I have to invest time reimaging, repairing, etc. to get my system back to normal. Virtualizing my system would mean I could accomplish this incredibly easily, simply by reverting to an earlier snapshot.
The other point is that I am currently attending school to become a network administrator and, well, what better way to acquaint myself better with Hyper-V than to use it on a daily basis! I'm already fairly familiar with virtualization having used VMWare
Workstation/Player and Oracle VirtualBox rather extensively at work and for school.
Anyway, this sounds wonderful in my head but I have some concerns I can't really find answers for...
1.It doesn't sound like I can simply install Hyper-V as my "host" OS without installing Windows 8 in non-virtualized form. I don't really want to have a Windows 8 host on which I run a Windows 8 guest VM. I want to simply boot to a virtualized
Windows 8 environment that I can manage from the hypervisor, no mucking with a host OS.
2.If the above is possible, how much of a performance overhead is this going to have in my system? My PC is more than well equipped to handle a VM or two but as I use it for gaming and other resource-intensive applications I would not want to do this if
    there's, say, a 5%+ performance loss.
Has anyone done this? Any recommendations?

I don't know much about Hyper-V, but I use VMware virtual machines all the time for tinkering.  That's a good way to keep from doing potentially damaging things to your bootable host system.  I don't know whether Hyper-V offers snapshots, but I
can restore a VM to an earlier configuration in an eyeblink - VERY handy.
Keep in mind a virtual machine will have lower performance than the host system, so unless you just have overwhelming resources and power perhaps you'll want to keep to using your host system for most things.
There are a lot of good habits and things you can do to keep a system stable.  I noticed you mentioned having to reinstall Windows quite often.  I find that unacceptable, and in fact every system I've run - going all the way back to Windows
95 - I've only ever installed once.  I'm not kidding.  I've even restored Windows from backup onto a replacement system on two different occasions and was back up and running with a fully configured system in very short order - saving all the hassle
of reinstallation, copying of data, etc.  I've documented how I manage systems in my books.
First and foremost, I'd suggest NEVER running an automatic "cleaner" application.  Would you invite a stranger into your home to just delete whatever they feel like?  Of course not.
But there are a few things you should do from time to time to keep a system running healthy, including bettering your default security environment and running a SysInternals tool called Autoruns to look over all the programs that have installed themselves
to run in the background.  I have MOST of those disabled, because they're simply not needed!
To beef up security, probably the best thing you can do is to download something called the MVPS hosts file, which blocks named access to literally tens of thousands of parasite web sites.  The key is that it does so passively, meaning you're not running
any more software.  It just causes Windows to locally resolve parasite web site names to address 0.0.0.0.  It's very effective.  Beyond that, reconfigure Internet Explorer to not run ActiveX from any site in the Internet Zone.  Finally,
replace Windows' own security software with something better - I prefer Avast! myself.
We've already discussed using virtual machines to do your poking around.  That's really effective.
I encourage you to get into virtualization.  It opens up whole new realms of possibilities.
    Good luck!

  • Lighting effects not working, 'Could not apply the workspace because there is not enough memory (RAM)' with 4GB RAM?

Tried to use 'render/lighting effects' on 5 more or less new different laptops now. All kind of Window versions.
They all have at least 4GB RAM. The Graphic Card is compatible.
Layer to work on is RGB-Type.
It's all about Photoshop CC 2014, trial version.
When I go to 'Lighting effects' it says first:
'The 3D features require that 'Use Graphics Processor' is enabled in the Performance preferences. Your video card must meet the minimum requirements and you may need to check that your driver is working correctly.'
    - I switched the 'Use Graphics Processor' on and off and restarted new - nothing happens.
    - Video card is compatible.
    Second it says:
''Could not apply the workspace because there is not enough memory (RAM)'
    - RAM on all the computers I tested it with is at least 4GB
    Please help!

We would need to know the amount of Video ram you have. If it is above 512 MB, then check for driver updates.
    Windows OS
    Click Start.
On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the Display tab.
On the Display tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the Device section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has.
Once you know the kind of graphics card you have, visit the manufacturer's website to download the latest driver. Here are links for downloading drivers from the most common graphics card manufacturers:

I have a problem with Lenovo G530-444638U. I upgraded to 4Gb ram and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and I’m facing sleep and hibernation problems. When I try to put laptop to sleep mode and I try to resume from sleep, it restarts by itself. I tried every single option in my power management and every command leads to restart. I also have the same problem with hibernate mode. When I try to resume from hibernate, it restarts and I have option on the screen to delete restoration data in order to continue,
Reading on Lenovo forums and Google search, it looks like it is a known issue.  I have the latest graphic and WAN drivers from Intel for win 7 and still I can’t solve issue. Is anyone has same model and expediting this problem, any help would be appreciated.
When I downgraded my ram form 4gb to 3gb then sleep and hibernate works fine.  i installed vista ultimate 64bit and had same sleep/hibernate issue. I called lenovo tech support and they told me to call software support, which is provided by third part and it is not free, i don't think it is software issue. I tried diffrent ram and had same issue.
    T6500(2.10GHz), 4GB ram 16HTF25664HY-667E1, BIOS Version     6GET19WW(for NON-HDMI), Lenovo Energy Management 4.4.1.1 2009-10-22 7.67 MB Windows 7 64bit

also one more issue i had... is when i try to boot up... somtimes it will go into a loop for a couple times. it will try to load windows(no blue screen)-->reboot--> and ask me if i want to use system recovery/start windows normally.
any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

  • X-Fi Driver doesn't work with 4GB RAM - Verif

I have a X-Fi Platinum and 4GB RAM?( windows XP can only recognize 3GB memory).
    Then
Install the latest X-Fi driver on Win XP SP2, it works w/o any problem
    I?format the HDD, install windows 2003 R2 SP2 Standard (Win2003 can recongize 4GB ram)
I install ?the same X-Fi?driver. After reboot, I can only hear crackling from the sound card,
Then I edit the boot.ini file by adding /maxmem=4096, reboot, now the sound card works w/o any problem
Creative, could you please improve you X-Fi?driver by considering the large ram issue ?

I might be wrong, and if I am wrong then could someone correct me, but as far as I knew, Creative Cards do not support Windows Server 2003. I maybe wrong, have you tried the latest BETA driver (see exciting news thread)John
In windows 2003, the driver works if I limit the total ram to 4096MB by adding /Maxmem=4096 in boot.ini file.
    FYI
    /maxmem
The /maxmem parameter limits the physical memory available to Windows.
    /maxmem=SizeInMB
    Subparameter
    SizeInMB
Specifies the maximum amount of physical memory available to Windows. Enter a decimal number that represents the amount of memory in megabytes.
    Comments
This parameter actually limits Windows to memory addresses less than or equal to the specified value. Because some memory within the remaining address space might be reserved for nonsystem use, the actual memory available to Windows might be less than the amount that you specify.
The /maxmem parameter is supported only on Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. On Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, use /burnmemory to limit system memory more precisely. On Windows Vista and later versions of Windows, use the removememory or truncatememory parameters with the BCDEdit /set command
You can use this parameter to test a driver in low memory conditions. For example, you can use this parameter to limit a computer with GB of memory to 256 MB of memory.
