Virtual Windows applications vs Mac applications

Hello everyone!
I know that macbook air is not created for running games but I am up for some old ones with low system requirements
1) So I would like to learn what is the best way to run games : instal them on virtual Windows and start playing? Or is Mac version of the same games better and will the game work faster or not?
2) And if playing games on virtual Windows will work better, what programm would you recommend for installing Windows?  I used Parallel Desktop because it is extremely comfortable, but I was told that this way of instaling windows for gaming is the worst since Macbook air has to run both Mac and Windows simultaneously.
3) Will CrossOver Games run my games just as good as if I installed mac version of the game? Well ofcourse if CrossOver will be able to instal and run it . ..
Thank you very much for help ! =)
P.S. If it does metter, the macbook air is new  13,3 inch  top complectation (i7) so it should be able to run games.

For best results in Windows Gaming use Apple BootCamp to install Windows so that it can use the native (real) hardware of your MBA.

Virtualization always slows down.
Depending on the games you wanna play Parallels or VMWare Fusion might suffice.
Crossover is a choice for certain games but be sure to check their Compatibility Table whether the games you wanna play are supported.
In the end it comes down to use the Trial versions of Parallels/Fusion or Crossover and see if you are satisfied.
Mac versions of Windows games are not that many to find and mostly such 'ports' have a tendency to run slower than than their Windows versions.

  • I'm trying to load photoshop elements 12 on my mac os x and when i click setup.exe i get :    You can't open the application "Setup.exe" because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X.

i'm trying to load photoshop elements 12 on my mac os x and when i click setup.exe i get : You can’t open the application “Setup.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X.  The premiere elements 12 out of the same box loaded just fine.

An .exe file means you have the windows version. Go get the mac version:
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 12, 11, 10
but I hope you have a mac serial number.

  • You can't open the application "MFI_Simulator.exe" because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X. Can someone assist. I have Office for Mac 2011 on MacBook Pro 13''.

You can’t open the application “MFI_Simulator.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X. Can someone assist. I have Office 2011 on my MacBook Pro, OS X, 10.9.1.

Your Office 2011, though a Microsoft product, is designed to work with OSX the Mac operating system.  Any program/application ending .exe is an executable program for Windows.  It will only work in Windows and is not part of or openable with Microsoft Office.
the application you want to open needs Windows - you have a couple of alternatives:
Open it on a Windows PC
Install a valid version of Windows via Bootcamp (or Parallels or VM Fusion) which will allow you to boot your Mac into Windows where it will function like a Windows PC and you can use it to run the application.
See if the manufacturers of MFI_Simulator have a Mac version available.
Please note that if you follow the second option, then you will need to purchase a copy of Windows (if you do not have one already). BootCamp is free (part of OSX) but Parallels and VM Fusion cost too.  I see quite a few posts from people who buy Parallels and try to run the program under Parallels - this doesn't work - you need to install Windows as well.
    Hope this helps.

I would like to run a stock analysis program called Toolkit 6 on my Macbook Pro, but it only works on the Windows platform.  Is there software that allows me to run Windows applications on the Mac?

Yes it's MS Windows! You will need a license of MS Windows (preferable Windows 7) and from there you can decide on the strategy for running Windows on your iMac. You can use Boot Camp (you already have this) or you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion. For your situation I'd recommend virtualization software. However for only one program I'd do some due diligence to see if there is a OS X version. You can start with the App store or simply use Google to search.
Kappy has provided a good article on running Windows on a Mac and the various options. Here is the link:

Hi I have delevolped a windows application using selenium , i need to know does MAC os support my windows app?

Not using OS 7, 8 or 9. Some later Macs running versions of OS X can run Windows applications using 3rd party emulation software. Most current Macs allow the instation of Windows.
What version of Windows does your app run on?

  • Windows applications in Mac computers

I Am planning to purchase a Mac compute, however I am not sure about how to work with windows application, specially Microsoft  exchange. I need to buy another  program?..
    eduardo

Exchange is a mail server. You need nothing to use it on your Mac other than setting up the Mail account in the Mail App or other Mail client of your choice.
For Other Windows Applications, it will depend on whether there are Mac versions of them or not.
Office for Mac can be bought from the Microsoft site for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
For anything not available for Mac, you can run Windows through Bootcamp, or Parallels, Vmware, Oracle's VirtualBox, and for some Apps you don't even need a Windows installation as Wine will run many Windows Applications though nowhere near all.

  • I had creative cloud installed in a parallels deskto virtual machine on my mac, I delete the virtual machine without deactivate the creative cloud. after reinstall a new VM running windows 8.1. pro 64 bits, I downloaded the creative cloud installer but it

I had creative cloud installed in a parallels deskto virtual machine on my mac, I delete the virtual machine without deactivate the creative cloud. after reinstall a new VM running windows 8.1. pro 64 bits, I downloaded the creative cloud installer but it does not install ang give an Error code 72, it is assuming that I already are using the Creative cloud in 2 computer, but itis no the case, how to solve this situation?

Dave: I did the Microsoft Update two days before this happened, and rebooted as required.  I just created a new restore point and lauched Creative Cloud.  Now I get the famous white screen:
It just sits and spins (been 10 minutes now).
Fortunately, I saved away this command (which I've had to use 4 or 5 times already):
    del %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\opm.db
Unfortunately now, I get this (even after closing the above window):
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
So I killed everything that said "Adobe" in the task manager and this time, the command succeeded.
Fortunately, the current apps seem to still work.  I can't seem to find the "Creative Cloud" app in the applications on my system, but I launched Photoshop CC, told it to look for updates, and got a list of the 5 prgorams that need updates in the Adobe Application manager:
I will proceed with the updates, holding my breath.

There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install Boot Camp 4 if you’re running 10.7 Lion http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
or Boot Camp 3 if you’re running 10.6 snow Leopard http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3777. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
      6. Last is Q.  Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs.  It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
