Virtual XP Mode Under WIN7

I have virtual XP under WIN7 that worked great in last 5 year.
Recently installed iolo system shiled on it and since I do not see the START menu. XP comes up in small window with no option to resize.
I do have WindowsXPMode_en-us and Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg installed. when trying to reinstall both file, I am getting error message that they are already installed.
Should I un-install and re-install?    What are side effects?    Am I going to loss my VM data?
HELP !!! HELP !!! HELP !!!
On C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines i see 3 files:
Windows XP Mode type of virtual hard disk size 42GB
Windows XP Mode type of virtual machine setting file size 16KB
Windows XP Mode.vmc.vpcbackup size 16KB
also integration features are turn ON even when manually i turned on via SETTINGS on Windows XP Mode file in C:\Users\MyName\Virtual Machines.
when XP comes up, "Enable Integration Features" is greyed-out.

Just make a copy of the VM file and it's associated files off to a network share or hard disk or something.  Of course make sure the VM is shut down if you can.  There's a fair to middling chance you have scotched your Windows 7 system completely.
There are a lot of those "shield" programs out there but QUITE A LOT of them are cheats, and only designed to further screw up your system.  When you attempt to uninstall them they destroy things on the way out.  A very common target is
networking - you uninstall the shield program and it destroys the networking stack in Windows then you cannot even download any sort of repair utility.  Unless of course you call the company that wrote the "shield" program where they get your
credit card number and pass that to criminals that empty your bank account.
Once you have the shield program off the system, if your virtual XP does not come back, then uninstall it and reinstall it.  If that doesn't work, then your hosed.  Copy your data files off, wipe and reload.  do NOT install the RDP update
that will come down in Automatic Updates as that is incompatible with virtual PC.  Then install virtual PC and copy back your VM files and your back in business.  And in the future stay away from the shield and PC fixit programs written by hole-in-the-wall
companies.  You have absolutely no clue how expensive it is today to staff a full blown virus lab.  That is why Avast, McAffee, Trend Micro, Symantec Antivirus, Sophos and the other big antivirus names out there cost a lot of money.
If you cannot afford a big name brand antivirus software, then use the free Microsoft Security Essentials.  And for goodness sake, buy an external USB disk and turn on Windows Backup.

  • Failure to install Windows XP Mode under Win7

After (apparently successful) installation of 500-megabyte "Windows XP Mode," installation of 10-megabyte "Windows Virtual PC," after reboot, reports "Failure configuring Windows updates / Reverting changes." Event viewer shows "Package
KB958559 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x80004005." (Naturally, no WinXPMode is available on the Start menu.)
    Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a Sony Vaio Z93 (3 gHz, 8G, 2x256G SSD).
Internet search produced: a) One user reported that uninstalling McAfee solved a similar problem, but I have no McAfee products installed. b) Another user reported that a problem could be too many "network filters," but I don't know how to "fix" that--it's
true that I have at least five NICs (802.3, 802.11x, Bluetooth, 3G, OpenVPN) but I use them all. c) Another user reported the problem could be corrupted registry entries but I'm not sure how to check that.
    Suggestions welcome ... Thanks!

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to install Windows XP Mode.
    1.
Update the BIOS from the manufacturer
    2.
    Install the
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7
    3.
Temporarily uninstall the third party antivirus program and firewall
    4.
    Boot into
    Clean Boot
    5.
    Download and install
Windows XP Mode, Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode update manually
    Does it work?

  • Windows 7 virtual XP Mode impossible since Bootcamp 3.1

I have installed Win 7 on to Boot Camp 3.0 on my macbook pro.
Everything was fine and i could use +virtual XP Mode+ in Win 7 (Microsoft detect tool reported that my macbook was OK for assisted virtualization hardware).
Then, i updated Boot camp to 3.1.
And now, i cannot use +virtual XP mode+ anymore in Win7.
Moreover, Microsoft detect tool now reports that my macbook doesn't support assisted virtualization hardware (or is not configured in BIOS).
How can i configure it in BIOS or anywhere else ?
    Is Bootcamp 3.1 compatible with +virtual XP Mode+ in Win 7 ?
    Philippe

Microsoft has a utillity that you can download here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0ee2a17f-8538-4619-8d1c -05d27e11adb2&displaylang=en
It runs under Windows and the detection tool helps you check if the computer processor supports hardware virtualization. The tool also checks if this feature is enabled on the processor.
Although this utility can not turn on/off this feature at least you know if you are capable and if it is enabled. My late (2009) unibody MBP ran virtualization just fine both on Bootcamp 3.0 and 3.1. Since MAC has no BIOS, it is unclear how you could configure the EFI to enable this feature.

WE GOT NEW COMPUTERS WITH WINDOWS 7. WE LOADED LOOKOUT ON THE COMPUTERS
UNDER THE VIRTUAL XP MODE. LOOKOUT RUNS FINE IN THIS MODE BUT I CAN'T RUN ANY OF

MACHINE AND RUN THE PROGRAMS EITHER PLACE.
    CAN ANYONE HELP?
    THANKS
    TIM

Do you get error box? What do you see when you run the program developed on xp?
What if you open the .lks file instead of .l4p file?
I don't think there is any difference between the .lks file developed on XP and the one developed on virtual xp.

  • RoboHelp 10 is very unstable under Win7

    Hi all,
using RH 10 under Win7 I noticed that the program is extremely unstable. It often crashes with only a very simple error message, telling that is searching for a solution but it never find one. Also the Windows Explorer crashes 10-20 times a day when working with RH. This is definitely linked to instaling the TCS4 on this system, and I have only been using RH and RSC yet.
Is thete anybody else with this issue, particularly the Explorer crash?
I found an older thread stating that RSC made Windows Explorer crash but this was related to RH7. Also there was no solution beyond deinstalling it.
    Regards,
    Robert

    Hi,
I've been using RH10 since the beta builds on several computers, virtual machines and operating systems. I have not experienced any of the problems you encounter. I did, however, not use RSC. So that would point to RSC being the problem.
Do you use a 32-bit system or a 64-bit system? And do you have the same configuration on an XP machine?

  • Installing Acrobet diabled the Integration Features of the Virtual XP-Mode in Windows 7 Professional

Installing Acrobet diabled the Integration Features of the Virtual XP-Mode in Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit. Does anyone know of a work around so the integration features can remain enabled in the Virtual XP-Mode? I now have Acrobat installed in the Virtual XP Mode and the Integration Features are enabled and working as intended. However, it is cumbersome to work in the XP Mode and then transfer the work to the reular mode.

There are patches available from Microsoft that remove the hardware virtualization requirement, you don't need anything from HP for it. You will find them in the XP Mode sections of the MS web site.
Keep in mind that XP Mode is for Win7 Professional and Ultimate, the Home and Home Premium versions do not support it.

  • CHM does not display under Win7 64bit

    Hi all,
the CHMs generated unter Win 7 32bit do not open correctly under Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit. The CHM viewer opens and the TOC is visible, but all pages are empty (white, no error message). The CHM is stored locally. The same CHM can be viewed without problems under Win7 32bit.
    Any ideas about this?
    Robert

Wrong information - sorry! The CHMs were generated under Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit as well. That means they do not display on the same computer they were gnerated on, but under other systems that have 32bit OS (Win7 or XP).

  • Can not capture under Win7

If you find that capturing is no longer possible under Win7, you may take this step to remedy the situation.
Try changing your firewire driver. There's 3 drivers bundled in windows 7, change the driver to the one that has (Legacy) at the end of the name.

    Thanks Harm,
    Was very helpfull.

  • Photoshop CS6 and HP Photosmart 8750 under Win7 Pro?

    Hi,
I have the impression that the HP Photosmart 8750 printer does not work correctly under Win7 Pro when printing images from Photoshop CS6:
The prints are generally 2 shades lighter than on screen, i. e. black prints as 50% gray - Black cartidge is new...
In the PS Printer settings dialog, I set the color management to "handled by printer".
If I set the colormanagement to "handled by Photoshop", the printouts are even worse: colors are shifting to completely different shades.
On my Canon MP280 printer, the prints are color-correct.
I guess, that this is related to a driver problem. Win7 only has a basic driver implemented for the HP printer, and HP doesn't provide a Win7-driver.
The thing is, I need the large format...
Does anybody have a solution or workaround for this problem? Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Erhard

At the company I work for we hardly print from Photoshop as we have a pdf-workflow, but I think you might make it easier for others to help you if you provide screenshots (posted with the camera icon) of your print dialog windows, especially those regarding Color Management.

  • NAC OOB and 6500 in Virtual Switch Mode

Is there any issue or special care to implement NAC OOB in Central Deploy, VGW, using AD SSO for wired clients where the Core Switch is a pair of 6500 in Virtual Switch Mode?
The customer uses Radius IAS for authentication. How does it fit with the AD SSO?

    Hi Bruce,
I am afraid there are some arguments missing in your db command.
To manually add the OID of  Cat4507R+E to CAM's database here is the  procedure to do this.
    [root@cca-3140-cam ~]# psql -h localhost -U postgres controlsmartdb -c "INSERT INTO supported_switch VALUES ('1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1286', '4', 'Cisco Catalyst 4507 R+E')" INSERT 0 1
psql: warning: extra command-line argument "INSERT" ignored
psql: warning: extra command-line argument "0" ignored
psql: warning: extra command-line argument "1" ignored
    INSERT 0 1
Then to make sure it is there:
    [root@cca-3140-cam ~]# psql -h localhost -U postgres controlsmartdb -c "SELECT * FROM supported_switch" | grep 1286
    The output should be:
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1286      |     4 | Cisco Catalyst 4507 R+E
Restart perfigo service on NAC Manager and try to manage the switch  using the model used by the above command.

    Tiago

  • Will virtual XP mode work with Windows 7 installed with Parallels Desktop 5

I've just installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro with Parallels Desktop 5. I've installed the necessary software for virtual XP mode but can't get it to work.....like running a virtual mode within a virtual mode. Just wondering if anyone has been able to make this work. I've read it will work by installing Windows 7 through Bootcamp but it would be more convenient if I could get it to run through Parallels.
    Here's what I have:
    MacBook Pro 13"
    2.56GHz processor
    4G memory

I suggest you post your question on the Parallels forum, as it's their software you're having issues with and it is not related to Macs or any compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, which is the focus of this forum:

  • XP mode on Win7 Pro x64, windows xp update/svchost pushes CPU to 100% in virtual machine.

Installed xp mode on a win7 pro, dell 490 with xeon cpu. The install goes without error, win xp virtual machine loads nicely, I do not enable updates at the config during 1st startup. When Automatic update is enabled later control panel shows svchost is
pushing the cpu to 100% and the update never completes.

    Hi,
    1. try to run XP in safe mode by F8
    2. then change Automatic update service to Manual or Disable.
3.boot XP into normal mode and see weather its still 100%.
    thanks
How do you start safe mode when running XP Mode in Win 7?  When you start XP Mode, the BIOS is hidden.  By the time the XP Mode window comes up, its already loading the Windows desktop.

  • How to create a second Virtual Machine alongside my existing XP-Mode over Win7-Pro 64-bit

At present I have XP-Mode installed over Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
I want to add another virtual machine to the same Virtual PC, so that I shall be able to use it to boot the second virtual machine from Acronis Bootable CD-ROM based on WindowsPE 3.1.
I suppose I will not start both XP-Mode and the Acronis Bootable media simultaneously, to prevent overload of memory etc., but still I would like the two virtual machines to co-exist on the same Virtual PC over Win7-Pro 64-bit.
So, how do I go about installing/configuring the second virtual machine?

    Hi joselso,
You may take a look at the thread below:
How to install multiple virtual pc's on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit?
Follow the steps listed in the Answer.
