Hi all:
do i need to install the vbox kernel modual ?
can anyone point me some howto ?
there are quite a lot of documents on vbox on Linux host
i can't seem to find doc with a windows host

The host doesn't matter for installing guest additions.
If Linux is the guest os, just follow these instructions:

It would not make much sense to give instructions on every specific OS. Basically, all you do is follow the directions to install a hardware virtualized vm. The OS you choose to install is not important. The steps in creating to VM and pointing it to the install media (windows cd) are important. Once the vm starts up and boots off the windows xm cd, you will complete the install via vnc connection (console)
I installed virt-manager on my utility server to aid in getting on the console of my vm's without having to use the vm manager

Use Vista drivers for your specific model. Most of them will work. You may find them here.
First thing which you should install is chipset driver:
NVIDIA nForce Chipset/Network Drivers here
Important note!
You will need to reboot your system after installing chipset driver.
It's recommended to install all Windows Updates.
Why? AMD machines with nVidia graphic cards are very quickly overheated after installing Windows 7. This simple solution will fix this problem. You will need to install as quick as possible graphic driver. Which is available through Windows Update too.

How to find graphic driver?
   1.Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking ' All Programs ', and then clicking ' Windows Update '.

You can't one way or the other. Serial numbers are platform specific and platform swaps only apply to current versions, meaning you have to upgrade to CS6 and make the switch.

[SOLVED] VirtualBox: Arch Linux host unable to reach guest over NA...

I recently installed VirtualBox on my Arch Linux install to tinker with GitLab on a Debian VM. I've set up a standard VM running Debian (wheezy) and made sure it's network settings were set to "NAT". However, I am unable to ping or ssh to this VM (which is running an ssh server among other things). Where this gets a bit weirder is that I'm perfectly able to ping and ssh to my host machine (running Arch).
I installed the version of VirtualBox available on the official repos and I'm running on the default kernel too.
I've install VirutalBox by following the infos posted on the wiki. My current user is part of the vboxusers group :

I've added the proper kernel modules to /etc/modules-load.d/virtualbox.conf so that they are loaded automatically on boot time :

I don't really understand what's going on there, usually that workfow works immediately in all the distributions I tried before, and on windows as well. I think I followed all the steps to make this work and yet it doesn't, and I'm not sure this problem is related to VirtualBox itself.

What I do for all my VB guest VM's is to set 2 network interfaces, one the normal (default) NAT, and the other a host-only interface. That way your guests are completely hidden from the local lan which may be desirable if e.g., your host is a laptop which you move around various places. The guests can access anything outbound and you can still ssh to them from the host (and also, using ssh ProxyCommand via that host if you want to access them remotely).

I want to split the hard disk and install a windows 7 ultimate, which I own and have as an CD image ( ISO file ).
how can I install windows from my ISO without burning it into a CD or creating an external drive? is it possible?

Clean install of windows 7 - how to install drivers from USB memory stick?

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite C50 loaded with windows 8 but want to revert to windows 7.
I have downloaded the necessary drivers and have mounted the .exe files onto a USB pen for installation.
Before I proceed to wipe windows 8 I'd like to know - if I install 7, will my trackpad stop functioning?
If so, how do I install the relevant drivers from the USB pen?

99.9% sure that W7 will identify the trackpad and install it. You just run the exe's using file explorer or Start >Run then browse. You may decide to leave the laptop as the W7 install left it but you should check Device Manager to ensure there are no unrecognised devices

The following prerequisites are required to successfully run Client Hyper-V on Windows 8.1:
Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise 64 bit Operating System
64 bit processor with Second Level Address Translation (SLAT)
4GB system RAM at minimum

Accounting for Multiple Cygwin Paths for Windows Hosts

Hello everyone,
We are using EM12cR2 (installed on RHEL) but need to monitor a number of Windows hosts. For most Windows hosts, Cygwin is installed in the default path (C:\cygwin) but we also have Citrix XenApp servers that we would like to monitor but they do not have a C: drive, just M:. I've seen the settings file that allows someone to change the Cygwin path but I can't find information on whether or not you can add multiple paths to that line and what that syntax would be. I've also seen an older Citrix plug-in but I don't see anything stating it's compatibility with this version of EM. If I could, I would test out a number of scenarios in a lab environment but we don't have that option.
Does anyone know if it's possible to add multiple Cygwin paths (and what the syntax is), if the Citrix plug-in is compatible with EM12cR2, or if there's another way to do this that I'm not thinking of?

Linux Application Debugging on Windows Host

I want to debug Linux applications using replay debugging with this setup:
Windows Host (Windows 64 bit), VMWare Workstation 7.0
Linux Guest 1 (32bit) for development and running gdb
Linux Guest 2 (32bit) running the application which should be debugged
For simpliciy both guests will use the same Linux distribution to ensure that all libraries are the same.
The idea is to start the vmware-gdb-proxy on the Windows host and connect form guest 1 to the proxy to debug on guest 2.
But there seems to be no vmware-gdb-proxy available for Windows - so my questions
is there a vmware-gdb-proxy avaible (or is it planned to make one available) ?
have I missed something? is there another way to do replay debugging Linux applications on Windows hostt?

I just need help in installing another software (SQLServer2012) from my laptop(guest computer) to my host VM. I also have the files downloaded into my C drive of my laptop(hostcomputer) for the SQL Server 2012. But I am lost as to where to click to install
this software to my VM.
I know I put into Windows Server 2012 forum but I thin the procedure should be similar.

you can copy the files from your host to virtual machine
you can create a iso file and mount it to vm
you can share the source files and access as a share
