This page mentions that the permissions of /dev/vboxdrvu should be 0666, but that they may erroneously be set to 0600:
Linux installers: Move the udev rule execution order from 10 to 60. The reason for having it at 10 was to allow other rules to overwrite these rules, mainly permissions of the USB devices. This is not longer necessary (we are using /dev/vboxusb for a long time now) and we need to take care that certain systems like EL6 don't reset the permissions of /dev/vboxdrvu -- the unrestricted device -- back to 0600 (we want 0666 here).
And sure enough:
matt@localhost ~ $ ls -Al /dev | grep vbox
crw------- 1 root root 10, 59 Nov 8 11:46 vboxdrv
crw------- 1 root root 10, 58 Nov 8 11:46 vboxdrvu
drwxr-x--- 3 root vboxusers 60 Nov 8 11:46 vboxusb/
I've changed the permissions on /dev/vboxdrvu to 0666, and the VirtuaBox log is not longer getting filled with the
Failed to open "/dev/vboxdrvu", errno=13, rc=VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_ACCESSIBLE
error message.  I'll check back in here once I've had enough time to assess my Windows 7 guest's stability.

  • 8800 GTS 512 OC - Runs in 3D for few minutes then freezes

    Hi there.
    I just got an 8800 GTS 512 OC, upgrading from a Radeon 1950 XT. The card works fine in 2D (it's in the machine as I type this). But when I try to play any game, it works fantastically for a few minutes (or seconds depending on how intensive the game is), and then freezes completely, with sound looping endlessly. I have to reboot to get out of it.
    I got the latest WHQL driver from Nvidia, 169.25, but that didn't help things. Oh, and don't worry, I removed the old ATI drivers and ran DriverClean Pro to remove any hidden remnants before I installed the card and drivers.
    I cannot use MSI Live Update, because as soon as I install it, I get a BSOD after rebooting:
    flashsys.sys,
    page fault in non-page area
    0x00000050 (0xBAB78000, 0x00000000, 0xBADF71B0, 0x00000000)
    Thinking it might be an OS issue, I then reformatted the system and ran a clean install of windows, but the same thing happened again. Makes me suspect that this is a hardware issue, since it seems the new WHQL driver is working jsut fine for other people.
    My system has worked fine until this card was installed, but here are my system specs for reference:
    System specs:
    E6600 at stock speed cooled by Zalman 9500 mod with Noctua 120mm fan
    Asus P5K-Deluxe, with P-ATA, Firewire, LAN og WLAN controllers disabled.
    2GB Corsair Dominator 8500 @ 1066 v/ 5-5-5-18, 2.2V
    Corsair HX-620W PSU (should be more than enough juice)
    D-Link DWL G510 PCI Wifi kontroller
    NEC Optiarc 7170 Sata II DVD burner
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500MB Sata II (houses C: partition + E: storage)
    Old Maxtor 320GB Sata I (storage, D:)
    Gigabyte 3d Aurora case fans: 1x120mm front, 2x120mm back
    and of course:
    MSI 8800 GTS 512 OC, ved 730core 1944 mem, with Forceware 169.21 WHQL
    Running legit Windows XP Professional SP2, fully updated.
    other processes:
    ESET Smart Security
    Logitech SetPoint
    Soundmax panel for onboard sound
    The card also fails while testing with ATITool artifacts scanner. A worrying thing I have noticed is that the fan speed does not adjust as temperature increases. Instabilities while running ATITool start when the card hits around 75C, and gets worse and worse as it passes 80C. Fan still runs at same speed. Might be a fan controller issue, but this card should not be having problems at 75C-85C.
    I should specify, that it does not actually fail the artifact test...it just starts freezing, then going again, then freezing, then going again, until it freezes completely.
    I really do not know what to do next. I think my card is just plain faulty, so thinking of RMA. If anyone has any ideas or advice, please please help me out.
    Best regards,
    Mikkel.

    Setup VGA mem. freq. to 1872Mhz and re-test.
    OK, I just tried out your suggestion, but sadly, the same thing happens. I should add that it does exactly the same thing when just running the 3D view
    Also that the card emits a high-pitch modulating whining noise (it is not bearing noise from the fan, it sounds more like a high-pitch capacitor buzz), is that supposed to be there?

  • An Animated GIF displays, i.e. moves, for about 5 minutes, then freezes. Other GIFs from the site work indefinitely, and this GIF works indefinitely on IE. Why does it freeze in Firefox?

    An Animated Avatar GIF file moves as expected for about 5 minutes, and then freezes. Other animated avatars from the same site work fine, and move indefinitely. To confirm that the site had not exchanged the file for a non-animated version, I right-clicked and selected 'View Image Info' and when I did so, it moved for about half a second. (The image file was the one uploaded.) Loaded the page in IE, this avatar moves indefinitely.
    Any ideas why an animated GIF stops in Firefox?

    The answer is that Animated GIF files include a Loop Enable Flag as well as a Loop Limit Count. This GIF had a count which should have allowed it to loop for almost 2 hours. But in Firefox it only loops for about 5 minutes.
    It appears Firefox is misinterpreting this value to be a Frame Count rather than a Cycle Count.
    Is there any Firefox Employees reading this, and can acknowledge this has been added to their Opportunity (a.k.a. Bug) List?

  • I have downloaded The Final by Wham (Deluxe edition) and most of the Videos only Play for about 2 minutes then freeze

    Hi all
    I am new to iphone and have just bought Wham The Final (deluxe edition) which includes all there videos.
    When i go to play the videos they play for about 2 minutes then they just freeze. Club tropicana does not even play at all.
    I have other video purchases which all play fine.
    Is there anywhere in itunes where you can re-download?
    Thanks in advance

    It's probably the new 'taste filter' trying to keep you from emberrasing yourself in public. Try playing them when you're alone. If it detects no one else is in the room, it may allow you to view them.
    Seriously... Do they play in iTunes on your computer? If they're in your iTunes library, un-sync them from the phone, then sync them back.

  • VirtualBox Win7 guest

    Hello! I would like to use Win7 in virtualbox, and was wondering if anyone knew how to lower Win7 Ram usage. I already have it set to best performance (but after using Openbox/pekwm, it's not good enough ). So Io was wondering if there was a way to get a openbox type window manager on Windows. The reason I am asking, is because i don't have much RAM, and would rather not have VB Windows using most of it, giving any programs I have to run less to use. Also I legally own 7, which is why I'm using it, and not XP. And there are several programs I need which wine doesn't like on my comp so much (though also for some games if I can get Win to not use so much Ram) I realize the irony of asking a Windows question here, but I've been use to the Arch/linux ability to keep the OS ram use low, so when VB is open, i'm a bit annoyed at how much it uses, if you can imagine Thanks for any help, and sorry for dragging in a question about Windows to this forum o.O

    I haven't had much success with Windows 7 either. The install went fine including Guest Additions, but I can't even get the audio to work and graphics effects were really slow. I couldn't really bother though because I have almost 50 games installed on XP while giving it only 400 MB RAM.

  • HT204406 When itunes is open on my pc and iTunes match begins to run, the whole system then freezes and I have to close itunes. it then takes ages for itunes to reopen whlist it check my diary. What can I do?

    I am having major problems with itunes match. I cannot operate it from my pc as every time it tries to get the information itunes stops responding and shuts down. It then can take 15 minutes of more to reopen itunes as it check my library. I have reinstalled itunes and my software is up to date. It is intensly irritating as I have to remember to tune match off or else I cannot do anything in itunes. Any ideas or do I just tell Apple I want my money back?

    If I am persistent and keep tapping the download icon then one by one I can download the entire album but it normally takes a few hours/days. Anyone else had this?

  • Itunes freezes on my mac mini?? its okay for the first few minutes then freezes. i just then get the colour wheel and have to 'force close'

    hi there, i have major problems with itunes freezing on my mac Mini, its okay for the first minute or two then it freezes and i get the spinning colour wheel and i have to force close.
    can anyone help?

    I suspect that you'll have to mount that volume at boot time and not at login time as you're doing now.  If you can arrange that, then the volume should be available to all users.
    Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do a boot-time mount.  I tried searching for "mount drive startup mac" (without the quotes), but most of the results described how to mount a volume at login time.  Ignore any advice that mentions "Login Items".
    I did find this discussion, but it's very sketchy.  You also have to be careful that any advice you find applies to the version of OS X that you're using.

  • IPad connects/syncs to iTunes for a few minutes then iPad crashes

    Sync-ing my iPad has been a problem for awhile and has reached a critical point where my iPad has lots of music/video/apps and it takes longer and longer for it to backup and sync it to iTunes.
    My iPad only stays connected for 5-6 minutes before I get a series of beeps from it, the spinning gear spins for about a minute, then freezes.
    At which point it no longer wants to sync with iTunes. I have to unplug the USB cable and restart the iPad. It's a 16 GB model and have about 7 GBs left of storage.
    Sometimes it will stay sync'd/connected up to iTunes longer before the iPad freezes, I can usually get stuff onto my iPad quickly enough to avoid the crash, but inevitably, my iPad will freeze.
    I suspect a corrupt iPhone OS and/or App on my iPad.
    Is there a way to install a fresh version of iPhone OS without losing any of my paid music, videos, books and apps?
    In other words re-install a fresh version of the iPhone OS and not restore from any of my backups.
    My iPod Touch exhibits the same problem/issues, also.
    I am on a G4 MDD running OS X 10.5.8 with latest version of iTunes.
    Any ideas on how I can fix this issue are welcome.
    Thanks to everyone in advance.

    Hiya,
    I'm having the same problem and it's now doing the same with my iphone as well!
    i set both up as new but i still have the same issue.
    I'm on a laptop (Dell) running vista. I have re-installed itunes and update vista but still no progress
    Did you manage to get your issue resolved?

  • Ovmcli change ip on guest machine (running Windows XP)

    Hello,
    I'm new to OracleVM but find it very useful.
    We had previous expierences with VMWare virtualization in our company
    (VMWare server 2.0). It had VMWare tools which included cli (command line interface).
    I need to change IP address of Windows XP guest machine.
    To be exact: our guest machine is running windows XP, our host is Oracle VM.
    We want to change IP from let's say: 10.60.60.200 to 10.60.60.201 on our guest machine running XP.
    In WMWare we used:
    $command = "netsh interface ip set address LAN static 10.60.60.200 255.255.255.0 10.60.60.1 1";
    and a command that fired the action $command:
    vmrun -T server -h HOST_IP_ADDRESS -u HOST_USER -p HOST_PASSWORD -gu GUEST_USER -gp GUEST_PASSWORD runScriptInGuest "DATASTORE TEMP/xxx.vmx" cmd /c & $command;
    Is there something similar to "runScriptInGuest" or is there any other way to change IP of guest machine in Oracle VM?
    I tried to use
    ovmcli with:
    vm nic conf
    but the options don't include changing IP.
    As far as I can see there is only:
    --serverpool_name
    --vm_name
    --nic_name
    --new_nic_name
    --bridge
    --rate_limit
    --enable_qos
    --disable_qos
    options available for configuring network interface adapters.

    The problem with changing IP inside the virtual machine (windows XP) is that
    we use dynamic virtual machines. By 'dynamic' I mean that we have a set of templates that
    we clone, start, configure and then run application tests on them. The purpose of all
    this is that we want to have identical operating environement for all tests. In this way
    we can relate to results as done on exactly the same computer.
    The whole process (cloning, starting, configuring, restarting, running application tests and then pausing VM) is done
    from scripts - so we CANNOT just manually log via VNC into machine and change it's IP.
    We tried to use STAF (http://staf.sourceforge.net/) but it operates on IP
    so we can run with this tool any task except changing machine's IP.
    (STAF doesn't deal with the change of IP in time.
    Apart from this it sends response with new IP when
    server excepects response from old IP).
    Summerizing - runScriptInGuest from VMWare solved the problem for us
    because it ran a CONSOLE command inside Windows Guest
    which changed the IP. runScriptInGuest doesn't rely on
    machine's IP so everything ran smooth.
    Is there any other way to change this ip
    from SCRIPT. I mean some way to run this command
    remotely on windows or do this through OracleVM virtual machine configuration ?
    I hope it clears the question.

  • DBMS_SCHEDULER.   How do I set frequency to run every 30 minutes

    Hi,
    I need this job to run every 30 minutes, lets say on 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour. What are the necessray changes. I have looked through the docs and have been getting errors when I try and change the line repeat_interval.
    begin
    dbms_scheduler.create_schedule(
    schedule_name =>'HOTLIST_GENERATION',
    start_date =>to_date('01-MAR-2007 02:30','DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'),
    repeat_interval =>'FREQ=Hourly',
    end_date =>NULL,
    comments =>'Schedule for Hotlist generation');
    end;

    Perhaps repeast_interval => 'FREQ=MINUTELY; INTERVAL=30'
    See the dbms_scheduler entry in the Oracle PL/SQL Packages and Types manual.

  • Workflow Agent Listener and Workflow Background program run after each minute

    Hello,
    We have scheduled Workflow agent listener program to be run after 5 minutes but it runs every minute more than once and fills concurrent request queue.
    Please help.

    We have scheduled Workflow agent listener program to be run after 5 minutes but it runs every minute more than once and fills concurrent request queue.
    Looks like this concurrent program was scheduled to run more than once? Maybe under a different application user?
    What if you cancel the recent schedule you made, would you be able to reproduce the issue then?
    Thanks,
