  • Virtualisation of SAP Server

My aplogies if this question is in the incorrect section.
I was told that virtualising the SAP B1 server typically causes deterioation of the system speed. ie users find that it takes loger to interface, use the SAP B1 system etc.
Does anyone know if this is the case? Are there any other problems? Also how can we can get around this? Any advice from users running B1 in a virtualised server or anyone else will be very much appreciated.
    Thank You

    Hello Gordon
    Thank you for your reply.
We are thinking of using Hper V, HP server with at least 2 TB hd space, 20 GB of ram etc so really high spec'd machine. It will run at least 5 servers, the busiest of which will be MS exchange (our SAP data in not big). I am not sure if this is adeqauate, how do we find out?
Also do you know when SAP is likely to make B1 compliant for virtualisation (officially), I would have thought it would be high on thier agenda, given the growing trend of companies looking at hardware management minimistaion and improving data recovery.

  • SAP on XServer with Virtualisation

    Hi Everybody,
Does anybody have any positive or negative experience with running SAP software - particularly ECC 6.0, both ABAP and Java stack on an Intel XServer? No - not for production use - but for small development environments...
    Regards
    Andrew

    Hi,
I am thinking to install a development environment in an Xserver with virtualization... Did you finally installed?
    What is your feedback?

  • Can I instal SAP Netweaver 2004s trial on windows vista home premium

    Hi ,
Can I install SAP Netweaver 2004s trial on WIndows vista home premium. Please advise.
One more thing is I am not able to download the Trial version from the SAP's FTP site. Because ftp is blocked in our company. Is there any other site from which I can download the trial version. Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Sam.

In this Forum it appears that Windows 2000 with SP4 will work as well (haven't tried it).
If you've got VISTA you could consider running the trial on a Virtual Machine. Parallels,  and vmware offer commercial vm products for generating Virtual machines whilst Microsoft (Virtual Pc2007) and VBOX offer Free virtualisation products.  Vmware also provides a FREE vmware server virtualisation product --this works fine as well although no multi-media support. However if you only need the Virtual Machine to run the Netweaver trial then that's no big deal.
As I've posted elsewhere a Win XP pro Virtual Machine using only 512MB of RAM will give quite adequate performance of the ABAP trial. Don't even THINK of the Java edition unless you've got at LEAST 2GB - even on a Virtual Machine.

  • Differences between AIX and Windows for SAP

    Dear All,
I have a problem regarding SAP Software. We want to change our company software .First we order SAP On Windows with Oracle10g But Now We want SAP on AIX with Oracle10g.
SAP delivered us software on Windows platform.
Please Suggest me for this as what are the differences between the above two platforms and what are the differences between the above 2 platforms.
    Regards,
    Pankaj Kalsayan

    hi Pankaj,
well, this is a very general question. perhaps you could specify a little more.
in general i would see no difference regarding the end user sitting in front of his pc using sapgui.
as far as i know all server side sap software is available for aix and windows (and many more).
for administration on the other hand there is of course lots of difference. AIX is a UNIX operating system running on special hardware with power processors. it offers quit extensive virtualisation abilities using so called LPARs and supports real big number of CPUs and large RAM. Windows is a completly differnet operating system running mostly on x86/amd64 hardware.
therefore you should also consider what know-how is available in your system administration.
not shure if that is partly answering your question ...
btw. if you are going forward with AIX you should perhaps consider switching oracle with db2. so you have a consistent IBM based landscape. also to me, sap and db2 seem to "like" each other more than sap and oracle

  • Multiple Production Instances in a C460 SAP Appliance?

    Hello,
Is it possible to run 2 SAP HANA Production instances (ECC and BW) on the same C460 appliance with TDI storage?

We have implemented similar solutions to take advantage of a server that otherwise be redundant for the majority of the time and it does work well, I have not personally done this type of configuration on unix using OPMN but have on windows using failover clusters, I feel OPMN is a bit poor in terms of management and lacks functionality so maybe worth considering Oracle clusterware depending on the flavour of Unix.
You could also look at look at virtualisation options as an alternative.

  • SAP Solution Manager and SAP Production Server on Single Host

We are rolling out our new infrastructure using high end Solaris Servers that have plenty of grunt.
I am looking at running SAP Solution Manager 7 and SAP Netweaver 6 on the same HOST using two Oracle databases.
We will use 10g and have 2 separate  transport volumes for transports. The Development and test environments will be very similar.
Appreciate any advise or thoughts. We are not looking at virtualising this particular environment.

Technically you can do that - yes. I could also imagine in installing the ERP on the bare metal and the SolMan in a zone, together with a processor set you can limit resource usage and you´re totally isolated from your production environment and will so make sure that SolMan is not stealing necessary resources from your production environment.

  • Mixed SAP landscape (virtualized & dedicated HW)

I am wondering if anybody has come across a situation where all non-PRD systems are running on a virtualized environment and only PRD is running on dedicated HW like a P-Series system.
There are obvious challenges in regards to change management associated with such a situation and I am wondering if anybody has recommendations or answers on this topic.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Christoph,
From an SAP perspective, the Change Control / Management issues will revolve around the kernel, the OS / DBMS combinations and any interfaces (including /usr/sap/trans).  If the virtualised systems are running on different hardware and / or O/S compared to production, this will almost certainly guarantee you have issues when it comes to applying Support Stacks or applying Enhancement Packs to PRD, let alone upgrades of the DBMS or SAP itself.  On the other hand, if you run the same Operating System / DBSM combination, virtualised and 'real', then you would very few problems with execution of code. One issue that you need to be aware of is performance tuning and measurement; it will be a bit more difficult to extrapolate the results of load testing and / or run times on the virtualised environments into what you would expect in PRD
Also, bear in mind that your P-series hardware will almost certainly be running in a virtualised mode (i.e. LPARs) anyway.

  • SAP compatibility with GraphOn

    Hello,
I am wondering whether SAP 2007 A is compatible with GraphOn Go-Global. This system is very similar to citrix and I seem to recall there being a binary patch for citrix and SAP which would prevent SAP running an icon in the system tray?
Is it possible to have SBO available or know of any methods to enable a u2018safe modeu2019, or to disable certain features like addon support, Iu2019d be very grateful for the details.
Failing that, have SAP approved SBO for use with any application virtualisation system ?

    Hi ,
There are many problems with SAP on GraphOn.
you can get real time sceanrio from below document.

  • Virtualised Servers and SQL  performance

    Virtualised Servers and SQL  performance
A client would like to virtualise their Servers as this will enhance their redundancy.
This will include their SQL Server where SAP B1 is running on.
I would like to know whether this will be a good idea concerning SQL performance. (it is said that it does have a negative impact.)
    Specs concerning the company:
    1.     They would like to set up a ZEN layer u201CLinuxu201D and then run their virtual machines from it on a SAN format, and use another server as redundancy.
    2.      Their SBO Companyu2019s total to about 30 gig.
    3.     They have about 100 users 30% log on using Citrix.
Can anyone tell me if this would be a good solution for them, or is it a complete no no concerning performance?
    Thank you

    Hi,
We have done exactly what your client wants to do and I would strongly recommend to spend a significant amount of time testing performance. AddOns are loading normally (Sachin, you should check if you don't have 2 network cards on your license server).
However, I am still not convinced that it is the best solution in terms of performance. If I had to do it again, I would probably have 2 physical SQL servers with full redudency instead.

  • SAP message Log

Does SAP maintain log of all the messages displayed on screen using MESSAGE statement?
We are investigating a problem and want to see the messages displayed by SAP during the time when problem occured.

We have custom development for picking and confirmation. Last week we found that in some deliveries there is difference in delivered quantity and packed quantity.
Custom development is calling sap-standard FMs. Problem occurs randomly, roughly 10 deliveries in a week has this problem.
We are still trying to investigate the reason that is causing the problem.
Custom program does display the message to user if FM raise any message. We asked user of they are getting any message while picking, and if they are ignoring it.
They just confirmed that they are getting message 'Packing Not Possible Since there is no Quantity to be Packed' and they did ignored this.

    Hi,
I am trying to translate an xml-table with bytes into a logical filepath in SAP R3.
Do I have to use the method gui-download or shall I loop the internal xml-table?
When I tried to loop the xml-table into a structure, and then transfering the structure into the logical filename, I get problems with the line breaks in my xml-file. How do I get the lines to break exactly the same as I wrote them in my ABAP-code?
