Virtualization Technology HP Pavilion a6442p

Hello,
I recently got an HP Pavilion a6442p pc, and installed Scientific Liniux on it.  I was trying to setup some of the virtualization components and was having some problems.  I found that some people had to go into their BIOS on other PCs to turn on Virtualization Technology, but I cannot find this in my BIOS.
   When I look here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02002520&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
it appears I should have this option in my BIOS.  I guess I should have looked up the version of my BIOS, but I will get that and add it to this post.  Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris.

Hi,
If you are running the base Intel E2200 then VT is not supported.
Try the latest bios version 5.43.  You need to be running VISTA or Windows 7 to install it. Now consider upgrading the processor to one which supports VT such as the Intel Core 2 Duo (W) E8xxx.  You might find the processor on eBay.

These fix a battery charging issue and have several other important fixes from previous updates rolled in. However, the real problem you will face is that the P7350 processor standard in that machine does not support virtualization.

  • Enable virtualization

    Hi,
I have a Pavilion DV7-2260ed. It has the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz. It has hardware virtualization, but Virtual PC's detection application warns that the capability is disabled in the BIOS.
My BIOS does not have an option to enable it.
I have read on fora that the advanced options in the bios can be enabled. However, for this specific model there is no Flash file available.
    What can I do?
    Thank you,
    Kasper

    Hi Lisa,
I think i have found out what the problem is. On these two sites, i found my answer.

In the bios however I do not have the option to enable VT (Virtualization Technology). I've read some forums and apperently it's possible is some bios'es, and in some it's just not possible. I need it to be enabled for school, so this is a serious issue.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance,

In your case, it is not possible for you to enable Intel VT because the CPU does not support this feature. (Your dv7-2215eb has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600.)

I do not have the enable Virtualization Technology option in my BIOS and also do not know how and if I can enable the advanced options. But now, I think it is not necessary anymore.

    Ricky119,
We can inquire further, but the IdeaPad product line does not support VT presently.  As it is not marketed as specifically having this feature, this will likely be seen as a future requirement rather than a bug to fix.

    Hi pallabmukherjee,
Thanks for posting. Just to confirm with you, when you say enabling the virtualisation. Do you mean enabling the Intel Virtual Technology? If you're aiming to do this you can do so by going into your BIOS.
    Please see illustration below.
    Hope this helps.

Hello, If you wish to install a Virtualization platform, generally your processor should support Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x). EliteBook 2560p includes one of these processors: Intel® Core™ i7-2640M (2.80 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache) Intel® Core™ i7-2620M (2.70 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache) Intel® Core™ i5-2540M (2.60 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache) Intel® Core™ i5-2520M (2.50 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache) Intel® Core™ i5-2450M (2.50 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache) Intel® Core™ i5-2410M (2.30 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache) All the processors support Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) and except last two, others support Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) (device virtuallization which you do not need to worry about right now). 1. Reboot the notebook. 2. Instantly press F10 to enter bios. 3. Check the settings and look for Intel Virtualization Technology (Aliases: Intel VT-x). 4. Turn is on and save and exit. You could use F10 to save and exit. If you have a doubt, you can install CPU-Z to check the availability. Source: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html Look for Intel VT-x Thank you!

  • Virtualization support in HP Probook 4530s

    Bonjour,
I have HP Probook 4530s. I am using VirtualBoxPro on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I wanted to use acceleration support in a virtual machine in VirtualBoxPro but the acceleration tab was disabled in the software. I went through many forums and found that accleleration and virtualization have to be enabled from the  BIOS. But virtualization support is also disabled in the BIOS.
How can i enable it in the BIOS coz all my work is dependent on the virtualization support.
    Kind Regards
    Scott Thomas

What processor do you have? I am pretty sure the system can do hardware virtualization, but only if you have a processor capable of it, and not all of them are.

  • No Virtualization Enable Setting in BIOS for TS140?

There is no Virtualization Setting in the BIOS (version 48A released date 8/26/13) of the new TS140. I have installed server 2012 but not able to install Hyper-V option. Called Lenovo Tech Support but he told me that if the Intel Chipset driver is installed then Virtualization is enabled. I double checked that it has the correct software driver installed but see no possibility of enabling VTx from within server 2012 OS. I hope this message would go to the LENOVO support guru and Please let me know if the VTx enabling setting will be implemented in the future releases of the BIOS. Thank you.

  • Virtualization: ThinkStation S30 vs VT-d

    Hi.
I got my S30 the other day and installed Windows Server 2012 and Hyper-V.
The system has an E5-1603 processor and a Quadro 400 gfx. Both are low end and can be upgraded once things turn out ok. Hyper-V 2012 als does not require a physical GPU for RemoteFX and the E5-1603 supports VT-d.
However, RemoteFX doesn't seem to be working. I cannot activate anything in Hyper-V that would take advantage of it and I am suspicious of VT-d. In the Bios (latest a0jy40usa) virtualization is enabled.
One problem I see is under the Intel TXT(LT-SX) configuration it says VT-d Disabled. Why would it be disabled? And how can it be enabled? Is this a Bios bug?
    Thanks for any pointers!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a setting in BIOS to enable VT-d as it's disabled by default.  Go into BIOS setup, devices, northbridge, IOH config, and in there you will see an option to enable VT-d.  That will simply turn on VT-d.  If you want TXT as well, you'll have to enable the TPM under security.  The TXT/VT-d  config screen (under the advanced tab) is really just a display of what's on/off as far as TXT, VT-d, and the supporting components required.

  • Cannot enable AMD-V virtualization extensions in BIOS

    Hello All,
I recently purchased a like-new X120e and discovered via much trial and tribulation that Fedora and Windows 7 Pro in dual boot configuration just aren't going to happen for me right now.
This wasn't a big deal until I discovered that I can't seem to enable the AMD-V virtualization extensions in BIOS under CPU.  I'll repeatedly enable them and reboot (saving changes of course) and it'll go right back to disabled.
    Any advice?
    Many thanks,
     - DownLink

I had the same problem on a Thinkpad X121e (3051): When I enabled AMD-V virtualization in bios it would revert to disabled upon saving of the bios settings.
It turned out that Memory Protection is causing the setting to be non-sticky.
    The solution is simple:
    disable "Execution Prevention" (under Security -> Memory Protection);
    enabled AMD-V;
    enable "Execution Prevention" if you want it on;
    save bios settings

  • Virtualization for C40D A4-5000

So hey, I just bought this laptop a couple of weeks ago because it's on sale and it's CPU supports Virtualization.
So the thing is, I cant seem to find the option to enable Virtualization in the bios. AMD's spec page for the A4-5000 clearly states that it suports virtualization. I've tried updating my bios but I still can't find the option to turn on VT. Any help or suggestion?

    I don't know.
But I can tell you from what I read here that Toshiba is unlikely to provide such features in its consumer (lowest) Satellite line. You'll usually find them in the business (Tecra and Portege) models.

    Two things.
    1. Make sure you completely power off and on again after enabling virtualization
    2. Are you running any other sort of virtualization software, such as VMware?  If so, that may take control as only one app can be vt enabled at a time.
