Virtualization for POS application delivery to tablets

I have a windows 8.1 point of sale system that I would like to use with tablets. What are your recommendations on the best (cheapest/smoothest performance) setup. Here are my thoughts so far:
1. Run POS application directly on windows tablets.
Pros: cheap, no vmware or citrix  or any virtualization or windows CAL  needed.
Cons: Can only run on windows 8.1 tablets. I feel that the POS program performance is a little slow with the database connection over wifi. It stutters (1-2 seconds) everytime the program has to read the database.
2. Citrix XenApp or XenDesktop
So I am new to any virtualization but am trying to learn, just bought a dell poweredge 2950.
Pros: Assume alot smoother and can run on any android or apple device.
Cons: Expensive.

  • Hotfix Package 2 for Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 Service SP2

This article describes a hotfix package that contains the latest hotfixes for Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2). This hotfix package fixes the following issues.
    Issue 1
Certain App-V 5.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) packages do not work with the App-V 5.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) clients.
This is an issue in App-V 5.0 SP2 that may appear to prevent some applications from starting. This includes packages that were sequenced on earlier versions of App-V 5.0. A valid App-V 5.0 package starts correctly and displays a GUI under App-V 5.0 SP1. Under
App-V 5.0 SP2, the same package does not display a GUI, or it appears not to start.
    Issue 2
A sharing violation occurs during profile synchronization when you use App-V 5.0.
When an App-V user on a Remote Desktop Services (RDS) server logs on after a period of inactivity, a sharing violation may occur when the profile is synchronized to the local cache. Therefore, some required files are not copied over, or they are renamed. In
this situation, the profile becomes corrupted.
    Issue 3
App-V client handlers leak in Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
When an RDS user logs off, App-V does not release some handles that it held specifically for this session, and therefore the resource cannot be reused. In this situation, the Session ID monotonically increases without reusing IDs from previously finished sessions.
    Issue 4
A virtualized Excel Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) application fails if the path for the application contains Chinese or Japanese characters.
    Issue 5
Certain applications don't start after Hotfix Package 1 for APP-V 5.0 Service Pack 2 is applied.
Selected registry key values were removed after the deployment of Hotfix 1 for APP-V 5.0 Service Pack 2. This prevents some applications from starting. By reverting Hotfix Package 1 for APP-V 5.0 SP2, you restore these registry values to their default state.
However, any existing customizations will be lost and will have to be redone.
Note This issue only affects deployments that were upgraded from APP-V 5.0 Service Pack 1 to APP-V 5.0 Service Pack 2 before Hotfix Package 1 was applied. Remote Desktop Services (RDS) deployments are not affected by this issue.

  • Prevent 3rd Party PO Create for SO with Delivery Block

We use Delivery Blocks on our Sales Orders as temporary blocks, for example if our Customer has sent a potentially duplicate order. However, the 3rd Party PO creation process ignores the Delivery Block (as you would expect, there's no Delivery), but we want to prevent the PO from being created. Our preference is to prevent the PO from converting the Req, rather than do something to the Req, or change the item category etc, as this leaves us with a much cleaner process if the order IS required. In that scenario, the DB could be removed, and the next ME59n batch job would pickup the open Req.
We have activated User exit ME590001 and included a check for the order DB, and this works for POs created via ME59n. However, the vast majority of our 3rd Party POs are created via Workflow process, and the exit we created does not trigger.
Does anyone know of a userexit we could use that would work any time a PO Req is converted to a PO, regardless if it's ME59n, ME21n, or Workflow etc, i.e. at the application level ?
    Thanks, Paul.

    Hi Paul,

  • Problem with IDoc for an outbound delivery

    Dear All,
I am facing a problem with the IDoc defined for an outbound delivery.
    Scenario:
Implementation of a small enhancement for an IDoc (DESADV, DELVRY01) created for an outbound delivery (in VL02N).
    What I did:
I implemented the EXIT_SAPLV56K_002 exit in the V56K0001 enhancement, activated in SMOD, assigned V56K0001 component in CMOD and acivated it. Then I put a breakpoint on the ZXTRKU02 include. For me everything in SMOD and CMOD looks OK.
I have also created a partner profile, port, outbound message config. (message DESADV, basic type DELVRY01, application V2, output message type LAVA, process code DELV. function module used for this process code is IDOC_OUTPUT_DELVRY).
    What I can do:
I can issue an IDoc message, it looks ok and contains the standard data.
    Problem:
It seems that the enhancement does not work. Finally I put there only one line of code to avoid a program bug and just to check . The system does not stop at the breakpoint (set on the ZXTRKU02 include in the EXIT_SAPLV56K_002 exit).
Am I using the proper exit? I appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Grzegorz Skorus

    Hello Grzegorz
Not an expert on this, but noone is responding so I thought let me try and help you. You seem to be doing the right things as mentioned in OSS note 1498409.
Firstly since this can be called form Shipment Idoc also, you may need to make a differentiation by the interface parameter 'MESSAGE_TYPE' or segment name. See the attached OSS note, though it belongs to older releases,  it may help you.
Also help says 'The callup of this function module is programmed for each enhancement of the internal table for the IDoc (in other words, when you add an extra segment'. So may be you need to add an extra segment/field to make it work.
Futher  the user exits are replaced by BADIs. May be you should use exit_badi_v56k.
Hope this helps and others will pitch in.

  • "Material is not the same for confirmation and delivery"

    Hello
If this is not the right forum, my apologies. Direct me to the correct one if it is not ....
Have been doing automated test development (HP's QTP) against SAP systems for over a year. I am not an application expert - very much a newbie when it comes to application knowledge but trying to gain some. I have "googled" the phase "Material is not the same for confirmation and delivery" and have not been able to find any references. What does this mean?
I see this message for an iDoc using WE02. Have looked and looked but don't really know what I'm looking for.
    Clues?
    Thanks,
    DW

    DW,
I have never seen that exact message, but I have seen similar ones.  Generically, the message probably means that you are attempting to perform a transaction against a document (perhaps a Purchase order?) and the Material number (Part Number) contained in the transaction is not the same as the Material number in the originating document in SAP.
An example might be you have previously created a confirmation against a Purchase order, which now exists in SAP.  This Confirmation is for a specific Purchase order, item, and material.  Now, when you attempt to create an inbound delivery for the Confirmation, the material number contained in the new IDOC is different from the material number that was contained in the original Confirmation.
I don't know what IDOC Message type you are having the problem with, but generically you can do some troubleshooting. Find the SAP Material number in the IDOC (MATNR probably).  Find the appropriate reference document number in the IDOC (confirmation number?  Purchase order number? or...?), and then manually review the document in SAP to ensure that the Material numbers are the same.
If you are totally lost, you should really consult with an SAP App expert.  I am guessing that this is part of the Materials Management module, so you would be asking for an MM expert.
Or, you can send more details, and we can try to help.
What is the IDOC message type?
What is the Message number of the error message?  Functionally, what is this IDOC trying to do, from a business perspective?

  • Common Practice For Storing Application Data Files

During my application development targeting for XP and Linux time, I will store my application data files (Files where user may create, modify, rename, delete...) same path as my application directory. For instance, if my application is installed in :-
    C:\Program Files\MyApp\MyApp.jar
All my application data files will be located in
    C:\Program Files\MyApp\Config\ directory.
This works quite well until Vista introduce UAC. Vista will not allow write opration to C:\Program Files\MyApp\Config\ folder (Config folder is being created during installer execution). However, to support legacy application, Vista use a workaround (Virtualization) for application to write. For example, MyApp.jar want to perform write on
    Real path :-
    C:\Program Files\MyApp\Config
Vista will redirect it to :-
    Virtual path
    C:\Users\<account>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\MyApp\Config
Please refer to the links for more detail
    [http://www.codeproject.com/KB/security/acl_common_data.aspx?display=Print]
However, this introduce several additional problems [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927387]
May I know what is the common practice for storing an application data files? The below are my several thoughts
    (1) Writing to
    * Windows XP - %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
    * Windows Vista - %systemdrive%\ProgramData
    * Windows 2000 - %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
    * Windows Server 2003 - %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
    * Windows 98 - %systemdrive%\Windows\All Users\ Application Data
which we may retrieve through "CommonApplicationData", using the API function SHGetFolderPath. However, how can we do that in Java? How to make compatible with Linux?
    (2) Writing to user home directory through "user.home" properties. Create a folder .MyApp and write the application data on it.
Any input and suggestion are welcomed.
    Thanks!

  • Output for POs

    Hi,
We are facing a problem with output types getting triggered for POs which are on hold. But I see that by SAP standard, output types donot get triggered for held POs.
Condition records are maintained for the Porg and vendor combinations. When I try creating a PO, the output types get triggered immediately after I enter the vendor and purchasing organization.
I would like to know if in the standard process, output types get triggered on saving the PO or while entering the values itself?
Is there a way to stop the output types from getting triggered for the held POs? Is it alright if I wrtie a requirement (stop output trigger when EKKO-MEMORY is set)  and tag it to all the output types?
    Thanks
    Aparna

    Hi there
Output will trigger on saving if you have the set up as "4" "Send immediately (when saving the application)"
I have seen no way to create the output to trigger once you enter the values,, if there is any development you have done on this, check with ABAPer to check the code,,
If there is no development,, You can chenge the setting as "3" Send with application own transaction, and after the save , you can go to Me9f to get the output of the PO..
    Hope it helps
    Thanks

  • Application delivery architecture alternatives

    Hi All,
For those who might have confronted the problem of dealing with the provisioning of applications across WAN links hosted out of central / single instances data center, far away from the primary user base, would know that provisioning of GbE or investing in LAN technologies / superdome servers exclusively, doesn't make much sense anymore.
With an upcoming proposal to host a single instance ERP systems out of a datacenter in an asian country, I am confronted with the same problem. I do understand that WAN optimisers, application load balancers coupled with suffcient bandwidths & a 24/7 network operations center to cater for my 10,000 odd user base, apread across different parts of the world, are a given.
    What else?
Is a single instance model of an ERP ( as proposed by our SIs) the best design? To me, even though hosted in our own datacenter this would be just a simulation of cloud computng architecture.
Can the instances be spread across various countries to enhance user experience and increase app response times? I am a bit worried that 'change management' of users who currently access the legacy ERP application over the LAN bandwidths of a giga range, would not be an easy process and I need to technically design the most efficient app delivery process across the WAN links, as possible.
    Any advise is welcome!

Blackberry Java Version is not supported at the moment... don't know about

  • Virtualization for SAP solutions

    Hi all,
as i recently wrote a blog about 'Virtualization and enterprise SOA' and as we will have many virtualization related activities in 2007 i think it's a good idea to start a thread in this forum for general discussion about virtualization and its utilization in SAP landscapes.
As many of you know SAP is offering application virtualization capabilities in SAP NetWeaver with Adaptive Computing. This was introduced in at SAPPHIRE 2004.
Meanwhile virtualization concepts, technologies and products cover a much broader part of an SAP landscape, starting at network virtualization and going up to desktop virtualization. I am sure storage virtualization with SAN or NAS is almost a standard IT scenario, but some of the newer virtualization technologies are in their early stages first.
How are you using virtualization technologies today, and which concepts/products/... do you consider to be most important for your environment ?
    Best regards
    Roland

    Hi Kwee,
my name is Nils and I am topic owner of the virtualization topic within SAP Consulting. You ask:
    1. How will SAP system maintenance and administration be affected now that we have tools in VM that can hanlde copying, backup and recovery?
Generally spoken, SAP should react on this when it comes to cloning instances. Change of an SID still is not supported, so I would expect the SAP Virtualization Lab to provide a solution for this demand asap.
In the VMware context, our Consulting team developped an approach that lets you run SAPINST in a silent mode so that no user interaction is needed any more for installing application servers, central instances and so on. You create a master template for sapinst, and this template can then be modified script-based to deploy your dialog instances in background. Siemens implemented our solution as well as MAN Diesel in Kopenhagen
If you have customers who deal with this topic, ask them to order me for an implementation. Backup and recovery should still be performed on database or storage level (Netapp). If you ask the question more precisely, I will give you a more detailed answer.
    2. What about SAP high availability and disaster recovery scenarios? How useful is clustering now that we have tools in VM that can offer an alternative solution?
Clustering still remains one of the operational keys. VMWare can never fully replace a Cluster although the fancy VMWare slides would like to make us thinking so. When it comes to disaster recovery, VMWare HA is a very fancy solution. But not every customer has the infrastructure and the money to implement VMWare HA. Also from a performance point of view, Clustering still stays a valid approach. Or did you ever try a HA-setup for a 8 TB solution with VMWare? A valid alternative for Clustering can be Adaptive Computing which gives you an enhanced availability (no high availability) bit downtimes of customer sometimes allow this and it is more stable than most cluster solutions around. You should also keep your eyes on Windows Server 2008! I spoke to Microsoft this week, and they put live-migration of virtual machines on their hot topic list again (after it was removed). Beginning of 2009, Windows Server will be able to migrate virtual machines in a live manner and also provide HA functionality for virtual machines. VMWare is still a little bit ahead of MS, but I saw the newest tools from MS, and this advantage is shrinking.
    3. How will hardware sizing be handled for SAP upgrades and rollout of new functions in a VM architecture?
From a sizing perspecive, calculate an overhead of 20% for your hardware to be on the safe side. Sizing is a task to be done by the customer together with the hardware vendor. He needs to tell the vendor that he wants to operate SAP in a virtualized environment. The hard limit for this is the IO based on your approach how to host the virtual systems (VMFS based with central FC storage or container- based). The hard limit is 6000 SAPs at the moment, for larger implementations, a lot of money has to be spent, technically, more then 18.000 SAPs are possible (but do not make sense).
    4. How can performance be optimized in a VM environment?
SAP-Performance? IO-Performance? There are some guidelines when it comes to the setup of virtual machines with SAP. You can find them here:
    http://www.vmware.com/partners/alliances/technology/sap-whitepapers.html
Best Practice Guidelines for SAP Solutions on VMware® Infrastructure
Is there a SAP training that specifically deals with such topics?
No, but if you can take care on an IO, I could come over and teach you and your collegues about those topics. I developped a workshop I present to customers (one-day) about all of those topics mentioned here.
