Virus? Google search "ock"

Ive heard virus are impossible on an iphone so what is going on here as its definitely behaving strangely.
Whenever i open up a google search another search starts for the word "ock" and reopens again and again if i close it until I close the original google page and the results of the original google search
Its not happening all the time but often enough and it only started a couple of weeks ago. Using dolphin browser on  a 3gs ios 5 ( not jailbroken)
Anyone got a clue

I would ask the makers of the Dolphin browser. Perhaps it's trying to remember some previous state and screwing up, or something along those lines. You could always try deleting the app and reinstalling it, though that may remove app data (such as bookmarks), depending on whether that data is store in the cloud or just in the iPhone.

  • I'm having trouble with something that redirects Google search results when I use Firefox on my PC. It's called the 'going on earth' virus. Do you have a fix that could rectify the vulnerability in your software?

I'm having trouble with a virus or something which affects Google search results when I use Firefox on my PC ...
When I search a topic gives me pages of links as normal, but when I click on a link, the page is hijacked to a site called 'www.goingonearth.com' ...
I've done a separate search and found that other users are affected, but there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut solution ... (Norton, McAfee and Kaspersky don't seem to be able to detect/fix it).
I'd like to continue using the Firefox/Google combination (nb: the hijack virus also affects IE but not Safari) - do you have a patch/fix that could rectify the vulnerability in your software?
    thanks

  • As of this morning, I am being redirected to uk.gomeo when i click on google search results in Safari. Do I have a virus?

    Hi,
First time poster and very non-techy person here. I am being redirected to urls starting "uk.gomeo..." when clicking on Google search results in Safari. Quick search on this seems to suggest I have a virus. Not sure what to do or how to get rid of it. Not sure what could have caused it either. Downloaded Acrobat update couple of days ago which took hours, and Twitter account was hacked about a week ago. All software updates up to date. Any advice much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Sorry editing that way doesn't work anymore in Lion. But you can look and see if there are any google entries in it. If there are not any google entries you can ignore my posts. If there are try this:
    Open terminal
    sudo nano /etc/hosts
When prompted for the sudo password - The correct password is your own (the password of the user logged into OS X, also the password you provide when doing system updates and so on).
now you can delete the line(s) that contain google and save.
Using your arrow keys go to the line containing google. Delete the line. Do the same for all lines containig google.
if you have a problem deleting, do a control-x to exit, and reply n to the modified buffer question. To save your changes do a  control-o and hit enter , then do a control-x to quit.
Note: normally you never edit the hosts file, but if you see google entries in it then a malware programs has added them. It has been happening with a bogus flash update, that installs flash and asks for your system password. SOmething that seem quite normal when installing software. This bogus flash update makes the hosts modifications adding their own IP adrress for google.

  • My browser has been infected with a virus that is not showing up in a scan. When I do a Google search and click on the desired site, I am diverted to some completely unrelated commercial site. Can this be fixed? in English

In Firefox I did a search for Alaksen ( wildlife refuge). The search results were appropriate. Clicking on any site in the Google search diverted me to various commercial websites that were completely unrelated to Alaksen.

Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:

  • Firefox redirects all my Google searches, and Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware and SuperAntiSpyware cannot find the virus; I suspect is a Java issue

My computer has a virus that makes Google searches in Firefox be redirected to other sites - mostly search engines. I've used McAfee, Malwarebytes and others, and I cannot find the solution. I suspect that the virus is hiding itself as a program, using Java to deploy. Any help will be more than helpful!

Well your Flixxy.com stuff isn't related to it. What exactly you are looking for is here.
    "firefox" > options > options
Under the General Tab, specify your home page in this case google.com.
If you are facing trouble with the home page being reset every time, then try starting firefox in safe mode.
firefox > Help > restart with add-on's disabled
    Cheers!

  • Possible virus? Google search results links hijacked

I'm trying to understand a new problem I have run into with my iPad. Recent google searches have not been able to direct me to the link given by google. Almost all results are redirected once they are clicked on. I would understand if these were some of the smaller less reputible websites but this is happening with pages like Cnet. Has anyone else run into these problems?

When you say redirected do you mean you first get an almost black page that say something like site has moved and fi you do not get automatically redirected click here?
Does the redirection get you to the right site?
Have you tried same thing with you computer?
If works OK with computer what is the DNS (address) are you using for both the computer and iPad. If not OK on both what are the DNSs.

  • Is there a fix for Firefox being auto-redirected to known attack site from every new Google search?

Every time I do a Google search, the first link in that search clicked will direct me to a known attack site at http://64.111.212.229/ (URL followed by lines of gibberish code). It will occur only on the first link of any new search attempted.
My AV (Symantec Corporate 10.1.7.7000 version 12/8/2010 rev. 2) does not pick up any malware.
The problem does not occur in Google Chrome.
Does anyone have a similar problem and/or solution?
My Firefox: 3.6.13, OS: Windows 2003 Server Standard SP2.

@sergej0363: Well, nothing to stop you with your solution. I agree that some anit-spyware can be a bigger nuisance. Having said that, the problem you described may or may not look like a spyware problem though. I have found Spybot S&D to be quite serious and efficient, trusted by many.
It is not true that Mozilla is targeted specifically, although some browser-specific attacks may indeed occur, most often with IE. Assuming that your problem is indeed malware/spyware related it may be a matter of time until another browser is affected. And by no means Mozilla doesn't care. It actually has features like "block reported attack sites" or "web forgeries" when turned on. And Mozilla's OSS development model is usually considered to produce better security. But all this cannot always prevent e. g. drive-by infections or accidentally installing a spammer add-on.
As always, the classical triple precaution anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware should help, besides keeping browser and OS software up to date and general.

  • PROBLEM WITH AUTO POPULATE IN THE GOOGLE SEARCH BOX

When I type in the google search box it auto populates search terms as it always has. However since upgrading to FF4 when I click on the one I want to go to ... nothing happens. I have to type the full search every time. I don't see this issue anywhere in the forum, am I the only one having this problem?

How Firefox is opened should not matter.
It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Open your '''Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift > A''' and make sure you
know what each one is and what it does.
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
Firefox issues. '''Disable All of them.'''
Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

  • Is it possible to have a Youtube or Google search result appear in Firefox history without knowing about it?

I recently found some Google and Youtube search results on my boyfriend's computer in Firefox that were "questionable" and when I asked him about them, he adamantly denied knowing what they were and said he recently had some viruses on his computer and they could have put these results on there. I don't know if this is possible or not. The only thing similar to this I've heard is viruses redirecting you to a certain site, but not to specific google and youtube results, and if that did happen, he would have to see them, right? I think it's version 11.0. HELP!!

It is possible that you have a virus that was redirecting, but if there are Google searches, and Youtube searches, it is most likely that ''someone'' did those searches.
You can try running these tools to check for infections: [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]
    [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363]
So, I can't say for certain your boyfriend did these, but it is most likely that "somebody", not "something" did them.

  • Google Search Results keep freezing Safari in iOS 8

I have an iPad Air that is only 30% full, and a good wifi connection. Ever since is updated to ios8 and subsequent updates, my Safari browser will often (but not always) freeze after a Google search. All of the Google search result links will be unresponsive, and will not even respond after I refresh the page. It will require me to close the tab, restart Safari and repeat the Google search. It has been happening for quite awhile. I can quit out of all apps, restart my iPad, close all other tabs in Safari, and still have the problem. Unlike another poster who had the same problem, I do not have any third-party blockers on my iPad, nor have I ever had them.
This his is only one of several glitches I have experienced with iOS 8.

If you didn't do a clean install of your system, you might want to try that. Here is a troubleshooting methodology I gave for another thread ...
Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!
First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.
Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.
On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.
This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.
