Virus from Adobe Reader?

Hi all, i am a new member here, and the reason i am posting this is because i suspect i have gotten a virus from updating my adobe reader.
I'm just an everyday user with limited knowledge of computer know-how, so please pardon me if this is a silly post.
Recently i have noticed that in my 'program files', a lot of new programs that were not there before have appeared, examples include : AGEIA technologies, amicosinglun, apoint2K, DIFX, downloaded installations etc. The thing is that they are all last modified on a specific date and a specific time, which was when i updated my adobe reader.
I have run full scans from Symantec and Malwarebytes with no positive results of viruses.
And there is an adobe reader update waiting for me, which i am wary of clicking in case it is harmful to my pc
Was just wondering if this was a virus, or is there nothing to be worried about?

Hi, thanks for the reply! But i downloaded it from a popup, not directly from the website... is it normal for other programs to show up as a result of adobe reader?

Adobe Flash 12 for windows 7 : Seems infected by a Virus or Trojan

Adobe 12 seems infected with a virus. After installing Adobe Flash 12 my computer is controlled by some program that tries to immediately connect to the internet and play VERY IRRITATING sounds that sound like someone is changing a radio station constantly. Sounds from the NEWS, Music and vulgar content material is streamed from the internet to my computer even though I have not connected to the internet. This virus on Adobe immediately connects to the internet if I have a connection. When I select my speaker and mixer control I see "Unknown Device" as the source of the sounds from the internet.
I can MUTE the application in the mixer but the malicious program continues to run.
My antimalware and antivirus software cannot eliminate this computer virus because it is part of the Adobe Flash 12 software that was installed.
The only way I can eliminate the problem is to UNINSTALL the Adobe Flash 12.
Does anyone know why Adobe Flash 12 seems to be infected with a computer virus or trojan?
I recommend everyone avoid using Adobe software as they seem to have a malicious computer virus embedded in their software.
Continual use of Adobe Flash 12 can result in others invading your computer and the loss of private information so I suggest everyone stop using Adobe Flash 12 until it is cleaned of the virus.

After I installed the software you recommended there was more to the story from my last email.
My computer was now much worse and out of control so I was forced to turn off my machine and cold restart it.
The computer would not restart at all. It tried to start windows but instead it ran in an infinite loop. I would see the Dell screen and then the Windows would pop up saying it was restarting and then it would go bland and the Dell Screen would pop up and then the Windows restart screen again and again and again.
I shut it down and tried to start it in Safe Mode. That wouldn't work either. It was stuck in a loop just like in Normal mode.
So I had to shut down and do a System Restore to a selected REstore point.
That worked and now my computer is as it was before but it still has the virus and if I try to use Adobe Flash it will again connect to internet and play irritating sounds.
So what could have fixed this problem? Should I have quarantined the 4 offending files or just the DCOM file?
Why did your software nearly destroy my computer's ability to restart?
What do you suggest?

How can I tell if my computer was hacked by the new Adobe Flash Player Plug-in Virus.
Adobe recently requested to install an update and I tried. I do not think it installed.
Right after that my computer started acting up: The gear ineterfered with searching by stopping scrolling. I could not shut down or get out of the program. This continued for a couple of days and now has stopped.
I read that if the Adobe Plug-in was successful it is not repairable. I am not that computer savvy.
Help please from anyone.

What version of Mac OS X are you running? If you don't know, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu.
I can't say whether that Adobe Flash Player update was legitimate or not, based on the limited information you have provided. However, I think that it's unlikely that you are infected with anything, and that the problem that you had was related to something else. I would recommend trying the things in my Mac Performance Guide.

How do I uninstall Adobe X from one drive, reinstall on another drive?

I have Adobe X on my C drive and need to free space on that drive. I have an external hard drive (D drive). So, I would like to uninstall Adobe X from the C drive and install it on the D drive. How do I do that so i do not have to pay for that installation? I do not have any Adobe X program disks.

Thanks! Turns out I already uninstalled from C drive and re-installed on D drive with help from Adobe chat support. I freed up about 4-5GB space on the C drive, which I really needed. I do not have any non-OS, non-anti-virus, non-Adobe programs on my C drive. It's only 60GB and I need that space for Windows and Outlook. I was starting to run out of space on the C drive (less than 1GB) and that was causing trouble.
I'm not sure why it was unwise to do what I did -- no problems so far.... not sure what could happen, but I'll be alert.

Uninstall Adobe X

Updated to Adobe X and started having problems online. Uninstalled X. Googled Adobe 9. Found website to install older versions. Installed Adobe 9. NOW I can print my USPS labels to ship Christmas gifts! Adobe "help" was NO HELP!

I do not have any non-OS, non-anti-virus, non-Adobe programs on my C drive. It's only 60GB and I need that space for Windows and Outlook. I was starting to run out of space on the C drive (less than 1GB) and that was causing trouble.
I'm not sure why it was unwise to do what I did -- no problems so far.... not sure what could happen, but I'll be alert.

Top 15 or 20 mistakes I made installing Windows XP using Boot Camp/Leopard

There are pitfalls installing XP in Boot Camp. I'm pretty sure they are mostly covered somewhere on the Apple Bootcamp Support page. Here's what this Windows virgin found in the past few days installing XP on my MacBook Pro running Leopard. By all means, feel free to correct or add to my comedy of errors.
1) First run Software Update on your Mac to make sure you are working with the newest Mac software and firmware. If you are obsessive, run Disk Utility afterwards and restart. (I did this)
2) Follow the instruction in Apple's Boot Camp Installation Guide pdf to the letter. Don't skip anything. Don't assume anything. Print it if you can't run it on another machine during the Windows install. (I looked at it, not well enough.) Read #3-7 before you start the install.
3) Run Boot Camp Setup Assistant to "preformat" a Windows partition. 5 gigs is too small a partition and means more work later since XP eventually used up 5.6 gigs of my 32 gig partition (26.4 gigs free after a fully updated install of Win XP Service Pack 3 + anti-virus software + Adobe Reader + one app). (I avoided the too-small partition by dumb beginner's luck but see #4)
4) If you mess up your Windows partition and decide to start over, restart in Leopard and use Mac's Boot Camp Assistant to remove any inoperative Windows partition. If you are obsessive, run Disk Utility afterwards and restart. Then use Boot Camp Assistant again, as in #3 (I got to use this feature, too.)
5) Use the right Windows software. Win XP Service Pack 2 does install and can be updated after you have a solid XP installed with driver. Before you update, read #8-10. (I managed to buy the right XP software)
6) During installation, with the Windows Installer, you must reformat the Windows partition created by the Boot Camp Assistant. Don't get fancy and repartition: just format. Read pp. 13-14 of the Apple Boot Camp Installation Guide pdf. The Windows NTFS format using long, slow, careful reformat takes a looonnng time, long enough to make me think the installer was hung, except the cursor was blinking. (I did this but only after I tried to install the dumb way, without the Win installer reformat. If you don't reformat, you'll see a black screen, "Disk Error" with a flashing cursor at the top. Time to refer to #4.)
7) When Windows reboots after a successful install of XP SP 2, immediately eject the Windows install disk using Windows and immediately insert the Leopard Disk to install Windows drivers. (I did this. Some report problems with this step, but it worked for me.)
8) When you restart in Windows, run Windows Update to install everything except Service Pack 3. Mouse around the update feature a bit. If you don't update to SP 3, there is an optional install of a new IE 7 and an XP update that fixes some installer issues. (I did the optional install before I figured out #9 and tried to install SP 3 a couple of times. See #10 for what happens if you try to install SP 3 before #9.)
9) Using IE 7 in XP, go to the Apple Boot Camp page to download and install Boot Camp 2.1 Update For Windows XP. This installs on the Windows side, not in OS X. ( I did this, throwing caution to the wind and choosing "Run" when the download options of "Run" or "Save" appeared.) When BCUpdateXP.exe opens, the installer asks you to choose repair/update or uninstall. Choose repair/update. I think the machine needs a restart.
10) Now install XP Service Pack 3 using Windows Update. If you try to install XP SP 3 before the Boot Camp 2.1 Update for Windows XP, you will receive the following error message:
"There is not enough disk space on C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall& to install Service Pack 3. Setup requires a minimum of 4 additional mebabytes of free space or if you want to archive the files for uninstallation. Setup requires 4 additional megabytes of free space. Free additional space on your hard disk and then try again. Error Code 0x8007F003." It's a lie, assuming you set up a large enough Boot Camp partition at the outset. Both Windows and Disk Utility will tell you the size and available space of the Boot Camp partition.
Like I said, everyone is welcome to add the next 5 or 10 ways to mess up. Without Search, this forum is rough.

Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.

Flash won't install window 7 64 bit

I have had two days worth of headaches trying to fix this. I have the following
Windows 7 64 bit
IE 8
spyware doctor anti-virus
Apparently Adobe updated itself a couple of days ago, and Now I have this Flash Player problem. Everything worked fine until then.
I need some clear concise instuctions on how to fix this. I have tried the uninstall, and the reinstall and looked in the windows folder and tried to find the 32 bit IE somewhere on my computer and have found nothing.
So I've had it, I'm not happy, in fact I am down right mad. Please someone help fix this. Thank You

Hi, I understand you have the Win7/64bit/IE8. Firefox(FF) you say is working, which you installed Flash Player using the 32bit. Flash Player will install and has been installed and is being installed in Win7/64bit. But you can't use the 64bit browser to do so, neither in IE or FF or Chrome or any other browser that Flash Player supports.
If you got the prompt from Adobe Flash Player on your Desktop and it installed, did you Reboot(restart) after it was completed? Also, Using IE, go the the ALL manage add ons and look for Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control...
Flash10e.ocx version 10.0.45.2 and make sure that it listed and it is Enabled. This Control works with your Flash files for IE. Just as the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 plug-in for FF does.
If you did not get the Flash Player prompt from Adobe and did an Install manually, then using IE you would have had to use the Adobe Uninstaller first. There are certain procedures and sometimes when Installing Flash Player, a Firewall, an Anti-Virus program, too high of security settings for IE will block the Install of the needed ActiveX Control.
If Firefox used ActiveX Controls as IE does, you would have had the same problem. FF uses plug-ins so there is a difference.
If you want to get Flash Player Installed successfully, then these variables need to be considered.
If no one with Win7/IE8/64bit systems were able to install Adobe Flash Player, then I would agree that Adobe needs to fix something. However, that is not the case.
There are many reasons that you were not successful, but blaming Adobe won't get FP installed.

I get an error 1635 no matter if installing or removing, Why?

I get the following "Error: 1635" when I tried to do the most recent update for Adobe Reader 9.3.2. Then I tried to remove it so it could be re-installed and the same thing occurred. Then I tried another Adobe and the same thing occurred. This is only occurring on my development computer. On my laptop Adobe Reader updated without a problem. Anyone got any ideas how to correct? The Adobe FAQ for previous versions was to unload and re-install, but the remove gets the same error.

Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility is no longer available from microsoft and so far I haven't found a web site to get it. I manually got rid of it out of registry and files, but it was still showing up in the Add/remove list. I had pulled it out of the Uninstall portion of the Registry so I don't know where this is being picked up; did a global search for Acrobat and Adobe in the registry and got rid of everything. NOW when I try to install 9.3.0 from the downloaded EXE file, it starts the unpacking and starts to install; THEN it looks for the Acrobat MSI file which does not exist anywhere on the drive and won't let me past that point. This is the first time EVER that I've had any problem with an Adobe product. I've performed a Spyware and Virus Scan; Adobe is the only programs I'm having an issue with; now becuase I have none, they are all deleted and I can't get them back.

McAfee Security Scan Plus

New computer, installed Firefox, went to get Flash Player for Firefox.
Install the plugin, Firefox warning comes up about software trying to be installed, click "allow", install window pops up, 3;2;1, click install.
Adobe Download Manager comes up downloads Flash Player, Adobe Flash install programs starts, need to close Firefox to continue
Flash installed, McAfee Security Scan Plus installed.....

I am an IT guy. I dont get viruses. I dont fall for scams. I dont get phished. I dont click "yes" on anything that pops up on my screen. I fix all my family and freinds computers. I build my own computers, I havent bought a premade pc from a company in over 15 years. I am a Linux system admin.
When I install software, like Flash player, I read everything that pops up on my screen, except for the full EULA.
I cant wait till HTML5 becomes standard. Then the world can rid itself of this resource hog and now apprently also a virus.
Adobe Flash did not notify me McAfee Security Scan Plus was being installed untill after it was installed.

I'm another IT guy, and I did NOT get the normal Flash install screen with the McAfee junk checkbox. I've learned long ago to watch for it, especially with Adobe products.
I run a utility on my system that watches the Startup paths in the operating system, and notifies me when something wants to install itself to start automatically. That gives me option to say "no," and keep my system running fast a smooth. Well, Adobe has even worked its way around that kind of protection. Their products now scan for available updates in the background when they are running, then use the system's Shut Down process to put their updater in the "RunOnce" key of the Registry! Then when you reboot, even though you KNOW you didn't authorize any Adobe product to auto-start, up comes their updater. But I digress....
This time I was browsing with Firefox, and a Flash page said my player was out of date. Click the link to update it. The download started immediately, with no option to opt out of anything.
Surprise! McAfee Security Scan Plus pops up so it can do its fake scan and try to get me to buy something. McAfee used to be the flagship anti-virus out there. It was fast, unobtrusive, and just did the job. But McAfee lost sight of it's original purpose, and now, in their attempts to become a one-package security solution, McAfee has become a bloated, sluggish system hog like Norton. And like Adobe. They all deserve to just die.
McAfee has resorted to Adware to make sales, and uses scare tactics to get you to buy. They have obviously partnered with Adobe with a deal to make money for both of them. (Norton, also, has now resorted to scareware sales tactics, BTW.) Why are they doing this? Because Microsoft came out with Security Essentials, which is free. And it provides better protection with far less system load because it integrates with the operating system.
I dropped Adobe Acrobat a long time ago. If there were a good alternative Flash player, I would dump Adobe player in a second. In half a second. This kind of bloatware sales partnership garbage is unacceptable. There are other multimedia formats out there. Maybe the world will wake up one day and stop using Flash altogether.
Oh! And their forum software sucks, too. My screen name isn't supposed to be "BubbaJoeBlow." It's supposed to be "D'Hag," which was registered with my account. But the forum wouldn't let me use it. Great job, Adobe!

Registering Serial Problem

I have Photoshop CS4 and have it activated on my studio PC and my home laptop.
A few weeks ago I had message come up on my laptop saying I had a certain amount of days left to use the software, now it wont let me on the software. its saying i have the software installed on two computers already so it wont let me activate it. I had a virus a few months ago on my laptop and had my whole system wiped and had to reinstall photoshop.
Do you think the software thinks I've registered it 3 times? Just to verify, I now have only got Photoshop on my studio PC and need to activate it on my laptop but the serial number is saying it's already at its max' of 2 systems.
Please help. I hope I haven't confused you.

You have answered your own question. When your laptop had a virus the Adobe software was not deactivated before the hard drive was nuked clean for a re-install of the OS. You will have to contact Adobe customer service and tell them what you just wrote so they can give you back the second activation.

URGENT: IMPROPER CLIP PLAYBACK

Recently, clips over 2 minutes in length have been inconsistent: audio, but the video freezes and the timecode does not advance, or, plays, pauses, picks up and stalls again. I have been using CS3 Production Premium for over one year without incident. I have tried deleting and re-capturing these clips with inconsistent results. The clips behave similiarly in Windows Media Player as they do in Premiere. Premeire is taking several minutes to generate peak files and these clips are difficult to copy to other machines. Is this a potential PC virus, an Adobe issue or a Windows issue?
