Virus in ipod??

I just got my new 30gb ipod with video and have yet to set it up. Actually tonight was the planned night. A co-worker of mine just informed me that some of the new ipods have a virus in the software that will affect windows systems. How can I tell if my ipod has this virus?
Thanks

  • Viruses and iPods

I'm new with iPods (yes I know it's sad). I'll be getting an iPod nano for my birthday next month and was wondering...can viruses from PCs get transferred to my iPod and ruin it? My dad has a Windows 98 PC (REALLY OLD!!) and he's got a bunch of pictures on there and he was hoping that I use my iPod to transfer all the pictures from his computer to mine and then print them. Is it safe to do so or should I just not connect my new iPod to that crummy old PC?? I think my dad's PC is corrupted with a virus but I'm not sure and I'm worried it'll transfer onto my iPod and ruin it completely. What should I do?
    Thanks.

First of all, you can't use iTunes and therefore an ipod on a Windows 98 computer. As to your virus question, since the iPod and PC use different operating systems, a virus infecting a PC could not be transferred to an ipod. Although there are currently no iPod viruses, in theory one could be created. The file would have to sit on your PC and somehow be transferred into your ipod.

  • Reinstalled all computer as viruse  now ipod not recognised

My computer went AWOL had to reinstall everything.
Including ITUNES, but all my music on IPOD as backing up Itunes on external hard drive was taking forever..
I thought I would be able to connect IPOD after and then change settins to manual and copy across.
But Itunes not recgonising Ipod - I seriously do not want to have to re Import all CDS
    Any ideas anyone
    Thanks

If you reinstalled everything, then make sure you go to Windows Update and install all updates there too. Just install every update it has. This may mean rebooting more than once. Just keep going back to Windows Update until it stops giving you new updates.

  • ITunes sync'd just fine w/iPod until two days ago ... now won't work

I am running iTunes 10.6.3.25, which had been working fine as had every version before it until several days ago.  Two problems are now occuring.
1 - Out of the blue, iTunes will no longer synchronize with my iPod.  In fact, there is no recognition by iTunes of my iPod at all.  This is the same iPod I have used for the last several years without issue.
2 - I am all of the sudden unable to refresh my iTunes podcasts.  The refresh feature fails any time while my iPod is connected to my laptop (using Windows 7).  While connected, I am unable to refresh my podcasts without an iTunes box indicating "iTunes has stopped working," which then forces me to shut down the program. I have attempted the same process of connecting my iPod and refreshing using compatibility mode, but nothing changes.  When not connected, iTunes refreshes at times, but other times presents the same failure box.  I've run a diagnostics on my iPod connection and was told my iPod is not connected.  I know my iPod connection is working, despite this feedback, because my Kaspersky virus scan detects is and asks whether I want to run a test.  This prompt is standard.  Further, the iPod reacts to being connected to the laptop by charging and attempting to sychronize, though it is never able to complete its process without iTunes failing.  No changes to my iTunes version, virus scanner, iPod or anything else associated to my laptop have been implemented over the past several days that could have caused this issue to my knowledge.  Just recently, I received a new message claiming my iPod was corrupted.  Not sure how this could be the case given nothing changed, but I went through the recommended prompt to scan and fix corrupted files.  Upon completion of the iTunes process, I was given indication that corrupt files had been found and that the iPod should now be fine, yet nothing has changed in terms of my ability to refresh or synchronize between iTunes and the iPod.
These issues are driving me absolutely nuts.  I rely on my iPod and iTunes podcasts every day and living without them has been a real downer.
    Any help would be appreciated.

One additional finding this morning ... iTunes can't handle my iPad being connected.  Immediately upon recognizing the iPad, iTunes comes up with the same message as happens with the iPod indicating "iTunes has stopped working," forcing an immediate shut down of the program.  Opposite the case with my iPod, iTunes at least recognizes my iPad.
    No idea.  This is madening.

  • Only 62 songs, but says 537 songs???!!!

    Hey Every1!
I just got a 2GB nano for christmas. I opened the gift on the 26th (today) and registered it and set it up. When I put some songs on it (i counted and only 65) and it was fully charged. I went to play a certain song and it stops 40 seconds into a song, and goes to the main menu, and erases all the settings I changed! I reset it by switching the hold switch on & off, then holding Menu and Center (because it was acting really strange.) I then go to "Songs" in the Music menu, and play a song. It says song 1 of 537! I check my play list and it goes back to 1 of 65 songs. I then go to Settings-->About and it says the following:
    Colby's iPod
    Songs 65
    Photos 13
    Capacity 1.7 GB
    Available 1.4 GB
and so on and so on...
Can someone plz help, could it be some type of virus for iPods?

Ok but have you done it? You have not mentioned if you tried it and what happened.

  • My purchased itunes files will not show up on my ipod after a virus Help!!!

I got a virus. I took my comptuer to a computer store, and got it fixed. They backed up my itunes files, and put them on a new hard drive. Everything shows up in itunes, but my purchased files from itunes wont sync to my ipod. They still play in itunes. Is there way to get them to sync? Help please!!!

They backed up the files but you need to authorize the computer again.

  • My iPod Touch (5th generation) is not responding to my touch. There are also several colored lines in the background of my screen. Virus?

Since my iPod isn't responding to my touch, I can't switch it off or restart it as I normally would. I've tried doing the hold-down-the-sleep-button-and-the-home-button-for-ten-seconds thing but when the Apple logo appears, it's either completely pink in color or there are these vertical colored lines in the background. When the lock screen reappears, sometimes it looks completely normal (but it still doesn't respond), or everything's blurred, or there are these weird colours in the background, or those lines I mentioned before, but most of the times, it's completely dark and I can onlu see this moving flash at the bottom of the screen (indicating the presence of the slide to unlock thing).
My computer was recently reformatted because it had had a virus, so I'm worried my iPod has gotten the virus too. I have some data on there that I really can't lose. (I haven't backed up this data because my computer had been on the fritz for the past two weeks).
Is taking it to an Apple Help Centre the only cure? (I purchased the item in March 2013; Is there any chance I can get it replaced for free?) I tried moving the photos from the device to my PC but it says there are no photos in my device. (I've moved my photos before when I'd forgotten my password and was about to reset it.)
I would really like some advice ASAP because if it is a virus, the longer I keep it untouched, the more havoc it causes. i fear.

I do not think talking to Apple will do more than the following:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Due to virus attack i had to format my windows laptop...now when i installed new itunes software i had to sync my ipod touch again but it says that if do the same then the data on my ipod touch will be erased....how should i protect my ipod touch data?

due to the virus attack i had to format my windows laptop...now when i installed new itunes software i had to sync my ipod touch again but it says that if i do it then the data present on my ipod touch will be erased as it is syncd to some older library... how should i protect my ipod touch data?

With all you media (apps, music) in the iTunes library connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPod from that backup.
Note the the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • Restored ipod touch(and started as new) is downloading "The Oregon Trail" whenever i try to download the first app on the device...I know people say you cant get a virus but im sure this is one. Any idea on how to get it off?

The computer where i always sync to and stuff got a virus the other day so i reinstalled windows which deleted data on the computer. As a precaution i restored my ipod (no backup) and everything seemed fine as i checked for any left over data. The ipod had the home page and the search page. Then i decided to get some apps. I signed in, pressed install button for textplus(first app on the clean ipod) and then it started loading. However, next to the loading textplus app there was the app "The Oregon Trail" which i know i did NOT install. "The Oregon Trail" is paused and not loading but the picture of the app is different from the one in the app store. I am convinced this is a virus because not only does it look different from the app store version and i ended up on my ipod without permission, it also takes up more memory than the app store says (around 350mb). I've restored multiple times and the same problem comes up again and again and again. Once i let the app load and then deleted it, but when i check i only have the same amount of memory than bfore. Does this mean i cant download any apps because of this corrupt app?????

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

i did every thing you said and when i went to restore this is what happened: the ipod software update server can not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later. what do i do to restore.     i used the last way to do it the dfu

  • My current laptop is about 3 years old. Got a virus and had to wipe it clean. Now my IPod touch 2nd generation won't recognize this computer as the one it was originally assigned to.  what do I need to do to safeguard my tunes on the Ipod touch.

My current laptop is about three years old and got a virus.  Had to wipe it clean.  Now my Ipod Touch-2nd generation is not recognizing it as the primary original computer and says it is registered on another computer.  What can I do to safeguard my library of songs on the Ipodtouch.  Any suggestions?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Need help transferring iPod data to iTunes (computer virus wiped me out)

The AIM virus wiped my computer out last week and my help desk restored everything but my music. I've got all the tunes on my iPod but can't figure out how to transfer the music back into iTunes on my rebuilt laptop. Any way to do this? Your help is much much appreciated!

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
