Virus in Microsoft
Hello, All.
I found that the Microsoft word documents which I created after this summer may contain virus.
When I sent them via e-mail, I got message that the document contain unknown virus. But I am still able to send the Microsoft documents that I created before summer if I don't open them. As soon as I open them, it is infected by virus.
I re-install Microsoft 2004. But it doesn't solve the problem. Does anyone know how top get rid of the virus? ( I don't want to install Miscrosoft 2008 because most of people around me use "2004")
Please let me know.
Thank you.
If you don't have access to an antivirus utility that can clean up Word Macro viruses, just follow this procedure:

Can MacBook Pro's get viruses from Microsoft Office?
I know Macs cannot get viruses in general but if Microsoft Office for Mac is bought can viruses be attained through it?
Linc Davis wrote:
According to Microsoft, it is possible for Macs running the current version of Word to be affected by so-called macro viruses:
What to do if your Word for Mac has a macro virus
This is why, when I open Word documents with macros, Mac Word asks me if I want to run the macros. That warning is due to the Word macro virus risk.
Macs can be damaged by Windows viruses under certain conditions. For example, if you run Windows in a virtual machine, and you have enabled a folder sharing feature so that a Mac folder can be modified by both Mac and Windows, it is possible for a Windows virus that erases files to then erase files on the shared Mac folder. And of course if you give too wide access to Windows (like Mac library and system files) then it is theoretically possible for a virus in a Windows virtual machine to destabilize a Mac system.
I haven't used Boot Camp but I imagine that if you share a volume between OS X and Boot Camp a similar risk may exist. -
Got a call from someone saying they were from Microsoft but it seemed fishy
Today I got a call from someone with a strong Indian accent claiming they were from microsoft and that my computer was in critical condition. I can't recall microsoft ever calling people personally about this so it automatically seemed like a scam. I told
him I didn't believe it fairly quickly and hung up. So I wanted to know in case there really is something wrong, do microsoft people ever call customers to tell them of errors? Is this just a scam and in which case is there a way for me to report these people? Its a scam. A well known and long running one. Microsoft will never ask for personal details (they already have them) and
will never cold call you. Nor do they send out anti virus messages
Microsoft does not do that nor do they have partners who do that
See the following for additional information about this and what to do and how Microsoft operates:

How can I get virus protection for my Mac
We have a Mac and were not aware that we needed to put virus protection on it (I know, rookie)! Someone said that we can get it through Apple at no charge? Any help would be appreciated!
In essence, Mac OS X is less virus prone for a couple reasons:
1. No root account enabled by default.
2. No support for Windows .exe files.
3. Software sharing system preferences when the firewall is turned on, keeps all ports closed by default.
Running Windows on a Mac, the Windows environment is still as succeptable as ever.
Sophos and ClamX AV offer inexpensive anti-virus solutions, but honestly, most anti-virus for the Mac offers unnecessary overhead and network traffic. You are better off practicing safe computing, avoiding trojans, including:
1. Not using peer2peer software, or opening torrents of any kind.
2. Do not download Mackeeper. If you have, read this: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036
3. Do not use any cache cleaning software other than the built-in browser cache cleaning.
4. Do not run software update from a browser window, instead go direct to the distributer's website of the necessary patch. Popup windows have masqueraded themselves as Flash and Java updates.
The only place you should get those are http://www.adobe.com/ and http://www.java.com/
5. Backup your data frequently, and before any update: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
6. Check for viruses on Microsoft office documents before opening them as attachments to the Office application, or use an Office program that doesn't support Microsoft's macros, unless you absolutely need someone's macros. Neooffice, Openoffice, Google Docs, Zoho Docs, and Libreoffice don't support the macros, but support most everything else.
7. Be wary of any .app suffixed attachments or .scpt suffix attachments. .app is most commonly used for
Apple applications, and .scpt are most commonly used for Applescript.
8. Do not open attachments from the Finder, unless you verify the application that can read them can open them directly. A .JPEG could in theory masquerade as an Applescript, but it won't behave as one if you tried to use Preview to open it, as Preview can open the real JPEGs as JPEGs.
Normally it wouldn't be a problem, since Macs are still seen as the small minority of computers, and Windows is a far greater target. Apple does not provide any anti-virus free of charge itself. -
My father was prompted to download an 'update' which appeared randomly while on his ipad2. since then the screen shows an itune icon and plug. Access has been restricted ever since. is that a virus? and how can he rectify it?
No, it is not a virus! Not every unexplained occurrence in life is a virus. Microsoft has a lot to answer for by brainwashing users if its operating systems into thinking anything unusual must be the result of a 'virus'.
It was most likely the recently released iOS system software update that for whatever reason did not complete.
Follow these instructions to fix: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 -
I originally posted this question to the community section and was advised to post it here. Please bear with me as this will be a long post. I'm including the scenarios involving this reoccurring issue, the trouble shooting steps I've already
taken and the results of several diagnostic tools and logs.
I have a Sony VAIOS VPCEBB33FM lap top since 2011. I have had this issue on an off for a long time. I'm at my wit's end. Any new insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Scenario Details
1) Some times it's on and off through out the day, sometimes it won't work all day, and once in a while it will work fine for the entire day.
2) I've had this issue across several wireless services, Clear Network accessed with WiMax, Library Wi-fi, Comcast cable internet using wireless router and Wi-fi, and Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi, to name a few examples.
3) Other devices in the household or library will work with no problems such as my smart phone or my roommates' laptops or desktop computers.
4) Once in a while, the built-in wireless adapter is not found and I have to reinstall the driver. Also the diagnostic tool has had to reset my adapter on an increasing basis.
5) I had my hard drive replaced in December 2014 and my system restored from the System Restore disks that came with it when I bought the laptop. Even though I've been online on an infrequent basis it worked just fine for a while. Now that
I've been online a bit more I'm having the same issues again.
Below are my attempts at trouble shooting so far but I still have not been able to consistently resolve my DNS issues
1) Restarting my adapter
2) Turning off my laptop and removing the power supply for 5-10 minutes before turning it back on.
3) Using the IP Config in Command Prompt
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
4) Using the NetSh reset in Command Prompt and restarting my laptop
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
[restart laptop]
5) Configuring the TCP/IP in several settings
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
I have used the following settings:
a) Obtain an DNS server address automatically
b) OpenDNS
208 67 222 222
208 67 220 220
c) Google DNS
8 8 8 8
8 8 4 4
6) Updating the driver for my Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN and Intel Centrino(R) WIMAX 6250 from the Intel website previous having my laptop wiped clean in 2014. It still did not resolve the issue. My laptop
manufacturer as not come up with an driver update for my adapter since 2010. I haven't tried to update the adapter driver from Intel's website since having my laptop repaired due to the fact that Intel strongly recommending using the manufacturer's updates
instead and frankly it didn't make much of a difference when I did it the first time.
7) The last one I've tried as of today is going into Services and changing the start up type to automatic for the following:
Computer Browser [changed from manual to automatic]
DHCP Client [already set to automatic]
DNS Client [already set to automatic]
Network Connections [already set to automatic]
Network Location Awareness [changed from manual to automatic]
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [already set to automatic]
Server [already set to automatic]
TCP/IP Netbios helper [already set to automatic]
Workstation [already set to automatic]
...and I'm still having DNS issues.
My only guessing are that my laptop came with a lemon adapter that needs to be replaced, some advanced setting(s) that I'm not aware off, or my firewall/anti-virus is interfering. I've used Symmantic Anti-virus and Firewall in the past and currently
Avast Anti-Virus with Microsoft Network Firewall. I've had DNS issues with both anti-virus/firewall set ups.
Below are the results from the diagnostics and tests that I've ran.

I have a user on an iMac 10.6 connected to our domain. She uses Outlook web access for email on our exchange server. Last week she received the following message which is randomly preventing her from sending emails. She claims no attachment was involved in the original email when this all started. I have not been able to look at her account as she is out of the office but maybe someone else dealt with this issue. I realize this may not be Mac related but thought I'd give it a try. She did say it occurred once over two days while working on a PC but it continued over the past weekend.
If an internal user tries to send a message with infected attachment using Outlook Web Access, it may report the following error message: The action could not be completed because of a conflict with the original item. The conflict may have occurred when an existing item was updated on another computer or device. Open the item again and try making your changes. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization.
This is because F-Secure Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange has detected a virus in the attachment. If the user tries to send the message again, the message will be sent but without the attachment. At the same time a blank message with an attachment named "Attachment_information.txt" will remain in the user's Drafts folder. The "Attachment_information.txt" will contain information about the virus detected in the message.PS - have found other posts indicating that clips smaller than 2s or sometimes 5s, or "short files" can cause this. Modern style editing often uses short takes ! Good grief I cannot believe Apple. Well I deleted a half a dozen short sections and can export, but now of course the video is a ruined piiece of junk and I need to re-do the whole thing, the sound etc. which is basically taking as much time as the original. And each time I re-do it I risk again this lovely error -50 and again trying to figure out what thing bugs it via trial and error instead of a REASONABLE ERROR MESSAGE POINTING TO THE CLIP IT CAN'T PROCESS. What a mess. I HATE this iMovie application - full of BUGS BUGS BUGS which Apple will not fix obviously, since I had this product for a few years and see just hundreds of hits on Google about this error with disappointed users. Such junk I cannot believe I paid money for it and Apple does not support it with fixes !!!
If anyone knows of a GOOD reasonably priced video editing program NOT from APPLE I am still looking for suggestions. I want to do more video in future, but obviously NOT with iMovie !!! -
Firefox 3.6 opens to yahoo, but, it stops responding. Or I can click on sign in to yahoo and when I go to log in it stops responding. I have checked for the won't start virus using Microsoft essentials and there was nothing there. I tried downloading the beta and nothing. I deleted 3.6 and reinstalled and still no good. I can get to the internet using IE 8. Any ideas what is wrong? This has been like this for nearly 2 weeks. HELP,I love FF.
I just experienced this problem. The solution was to delete your cookies for tdbank (tools, options, show cookies)
I suspect there is something in the cookie that points to a database or some server that currently isn't active - it's 1AM now, so probably have a backup server up while they do maintenance or something like that.
Most likely the login page will have worked the next day for me. -
ITunes on Win 7 Pro won't recognise iPhone
iPhone 4 S is 12 months old next month.
OS is 7.0.2
iTunes vers is: 11.1.0.126
Computer OS is Win 7 Pro (anti virus is Microsoft Essentials, Firewall is ZoneAlarm)
I have manged to connect the phone to iTunes ... so there is a backup. However, that was a while ago and it's pot luck.
Even when I did connect it required several plugging and unplugging to get a connection.
NB - the computer is recognising the iPhone as I can d/load pictures from Photos and charge via the computer.
(As a clue: wall charge also requires often 6 plug in and out before it connects and begins charging so I use the computer mostly).
I've been through the list provided by Apple Help.
Also I remove Apple from devices so that it installs afresh.
And I have Stopped and Restarted Apple Mobile Device.
I have tried with firewall off (but when it did connect ages ago same firewall was on)
Unable to turn off MSE and really ought not have to uninstall.
So ... if you are into a techie challenge please take on my case.
No offence intended but not interested in amateur good ideas like "try another usb port" (have tried main and subsidiary port)....
I'm franly disappointed, frustrated and tired of the process but remain open to expert input.
thx for reading this post and should you offer expert advice then in advance may I thank you.
best wishes,Never mind answering this question. I was able to figure out a way to fix the problem on my own. All I needed to do was install the Itunes update by itself and then I was able to open Itunes with no trouble.

Itunes 10.6 crashes when connecting to Store or loggin in
On a brand-new desktop PC (w/ Windows 7 Prof 64-bit, Intel i7 Ivy Bridge Quad-Core CPU, 16 GB of RAM, SSD...), Itunes (10.6.3.25) keeps crashing (with a "Itunes is not working anymore" pop-up) when connecting to the Itunes Store or logging in with my (or the girlfriend's) Apple ID.
I should add that parts of the user account data of the current user was migrated from another machine (for which Itunes works fine). I should also note that there is no problem when accessing the Itunes Store of logging on from the "guest" user account of the same Windows installation. So the trouble is essentially related to the main user (which also happens to be the admin) of this PC.
I followed the steps advised on the Apple website with no success. I also read tons of threads and tried tons of solutions - nothing helped.
Here is an (incomplete) list of the things I tried in vain:
- repairing the itunes installation from the control panel
- explicitly running Itunes as an Administrator
- starting Itunes in safe mode
- creating a new library
- re-creating the library
- deleting different files or folders in the User's appdata folder as advised by some users on this board
- clearing the Itunes Store cache under Preferences/Advanced
- logging in with the girlfriend's apple id
- deleting itunes completely as advised on Apple's pages and deleting all files and folders with "Itunes" in their name, then reinstalling.
My firewall is Windows Firewall and it allows connections by itunes. My anti-virus is Microsoft Security Essentials.
I'd very much appreciate any sincere efforts to resolve the issue.
Xerberus10.6 syncs fine with all my Apple TV 1's, it's therefore something specific to your set up and not something you should report via feedback. You might want to try re-pairing the Apple TV with iTunes.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted. -
Bought Computer with Vista and received a free Windows 7 upgrade - can I download Windows 7?
I purchased my computer with Windows Vista and was able to get a free upgrade of Windows 7. I've scanned my computer for viruses on Microsoft and they find no viruses. My anti-virus program has scanned the computer and has found nothing.
Yesterday I was trying to install a program and that's when my anti-virus program told me there was a threat. It removed it and I kept on with the installation. After that my Internet Explorer doesn't work and when I go to "Uninstall
Programs" it only shows that I have just Microsoft programs, everything under "M" and nothing else. I've tried to restore my computer and every time after a restore it gives me an error code 0x80070005. I've turned off anti-virus
and restored and have even restored in Safe Mode but still get the same error message. Does anyone know what I can do to get this straightened out??Hi,
What is the anti-virus program you have on your computer? Please take a try to uninstall the 3rd party anti-virus program and then perform the system restore under
system recovery options.
Some 3rd-party anti-virus program might not be incompatible with Windows processes.
Here is a similar threads for reference:
error code 0X80070005

New officejet 6600 - Can't scan or fax, printing A-ok. Using wireless.
Hi I have read and tried every thread on this topic. it is now 6 hours later and about 30 restarts, installs, re-installs and re-re installs, oh and full uninstalls, each time turing off firewall and anti-virus. Microsoft paint won't work either, but the printer shows up in the windows scan and fax, but just hangs when trying to connect. I have tried HP printer and scanner trouble shooter recognizes the printer but when scan trouble is selected hangs also on drivers. What else.. umm I tried most of the help topics here... so who is up to the challange of this one. Windows 7 machine. I had a office jet 6700 connected last week worked great at work, so bought this 6600. I thought conflict but uninstalled all hp files and reinstalled using hp installation package. Followed thread on regestry updating, and services.msc. I read about reg edit or mechanic, have used AVG reg cleaner, but disabled it for the install.
This question was solved.
View Solution. This was posted on the forum really really works and now I can scan!

I have been a bit busy trying to work with the real Android Devs reguarding this issue.
Why is there nothing, (not that I looked very hard) on the verizon fourm about the recent 2 (very serious) trojans that are going around? Not even a decent mention of Droiddream, wow.
The Android Police reported this days ago (Glad their there Verizon seems to not be worried about the fact that tens of thousands of users on their network could be infected)
I could go on and on but, seems Verizon and the great fourm people here are not all that worried about it, so it should be ok, right.
(This Malware was installed via pulling apps from the market, injecting code into them and replacing them into the market. The first of the two roots the user’s device via rageagainstthecag , steals nearly everything it can: product ID, model, partner provider, language, country, userID, IMEI and IMSI. (Most/all of the apps have been removed from the market now, new ones?) The kicker is once this is on your system even if you remove the app. it can still install more code..... its reported that before google could remove the malicious they had already been downloaded 50,000 times, that was a few days ago and more apps with the malicious code were released and downloaded before being removed, so the full number is unknown.
The second one well its a little more complicated considering the code itself is more encrypted then Fort Knox, what is known, well it starts a timer (what happens when that hits 0 is anyones guess).
As bad as google has been with getting back to people who report malicious, or priated apps oddly enough today they jumped and removed hundreds of them, sounds like something has them worried.
Hey you could be a rooted user and not even know it.
In Verizons defence anyone who is using android 2.3 (gingerbread) is/was safe, now if you have gingerbread on your X raise your hand.........You got one thing right there, DJ...
YOU DIDN"T LOOK VERY HARD...
So what do you call this?...

This was posted 3 days ago. Or did you look over it because it was posted by the guy that you were ripping over the screen issue? And there are 2 other posts asking about the need of AV programs, of which I haven't read because I know the answer (now more than ever).
Your post actually has some merit, it you didn't have your usual pompous, holier-than-thou attitude about it, particularly towards Verizon. That's like bashing Gateway over viruses when Microsoft is the OS maker that needs to be addressing the virus and malware issue. And what would you have Verizon do? Much like it's Microsoft's duty to send out virus alerts (oh, and you Mac people better get used to dealing with malware, too, as the popularity increases), it's Google's duty to address the issues, too.
As for not seeing much conversation about it here, have you looked around the land lately? Middle East coming un-glued? $4.00/gallon gasoline? Food prices going out of sight? Politicians can't do anything without looking like third-graders fighting on the playground? Economy nearly comatose? Weather freaking out? The General Public has been so hammered lately that the Android virus and malware issues, while certainly a big concern to smartphone users, frankly doesn't bug me as much as spending $70.00 to fill my gas tank when it used to take $50.00. I'll admot that it doesn't bug ME so much because I have already, for some time now, taken steps to avoid being affected (infected?) by the malware issues.
At the same time, there are other sources of tech info that could do more to make people aware of the fact that viruses and malware are becoming a problem. Yes, a couple of well-placed stickies in the forum by the Mods would be a good idea.
It's good of you to want to look out for the common man's well-being, but if you continue to post in the condesending manner that is typical of your postings, you will continue to be engaged in back-and forth sniping between yourself and people like me who don't believe in putting up with bad behavior. Or better yet (or worse, depending on the point of view), totally and completely ignored by people that have more sense than either of us. You seem to be intelligent and have good points to offer, but when people are treated like bugs to be walked on and squashed, they are going to tune out. And quickly.
Geri "pliers in hand" O (just consider that a little tweak for when, not if, you respond to this) -
I am going to be going back to school and I was thinking about purchasing a laptop. I have been looking but don't know exactly what to look for. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money but I want a reliable computer. What would be a good laptop to get? I would also be using it for the internet and for my ipod. I don't know what to look for in terms of speed...thanks!!!!!!!
Dianahi diana, and welcome to the forums.
from your post, it sounds like a lightweight notebook that allows you to take notes on campus as well as connect to the web would be ideal. it also sounds like you don't put too much of a focus on PC gaming or heavy video creating/editing, so that should help narrow down what machines you may want to consider.
understandable that you're trying to keep the cost low, but do you have any specific budget in mind?
here are a few machines to consider:
* asus U81A-RX05: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366562&type=product&id=1218092151327
* hp dv4-1435dx: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9370548&type=product&id=1218093001786
both of the machines are very portable: they have 14" screens, good battery life, and they're no more than 5 pounds each. at the heart of each laptop, you'll find an intel core 2 processor accompanied by 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard for storing all of your notes and homework as well as any music and pictures that you have.
you may also want to check out the next class line of PCs here: http://bit.ly/nextclass . these machines are built with students in mind - anti-virus protection, microsoft office, and good battery life. -
hi Guys.
We have a laptop where Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1 was happily working ok on a windows 8 Laptop and was running ok when the usb mobile device was connected. The Laptop was moved into a domain when the software would no longer work.
The laptop was removed from the domain but the software still did not work. I have tried removing and software and reinstalling but the Device Centre 6.1 64bit program does not appear to install correctly. The event viewer seems to state that the program
does install and gives a 0x0 install code. But no Windows mobile Device Centre icon appears also the 2 windows mobile related services are not created. I have tried installing the drvupdate-amd64.exe file with run as administrator and still the same thing
happens.
Anyone any ideas ? Could there be some old inherited domain policies hanging around that is causing the program now not to install correctly. ?hi Guys.
WMDC can have great problems when trying to work with Computers that are in a Domain.
This is what solved the issue we were having.
We have fixed this problem on our network.
The key to this was understanding the role of the TrustedInstaller security principal in the Windows Resource Protection
feature introduced in Windows Vista. TrustedInstaller is a Windows service with the display name Windows Modules Installer in the Services list. Its full name is NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller, which is what you use in permissions dialogues and the like.
The
reason we had a problem is because we followed the advice issued by Microsoft in response to the Conficker virus outbreak. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962007
In this Virus alert, Microsoft do point out that following their advice might cause problems with installing updates.
Our implementation of that advice was to create a group policy which modified the permissions on the registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost.
In order to allow Windows Mobile Device Centre to install successfully we reverted the permissions back to what we
think is their default values. On our PCs the key permissions are:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
Owner: TrustedInstaller
TrustedInstaller permissions: Full Control & Read, not inherited
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost
Owner: System
TrustedInstaller permissions: Full Control & Read, inherited from CurrentVersion
Microsoft have effectively told us that the Mitigation steps in the advice were only supposed to be applied temporarily.
However, if someone doesn’t want to be responsible for removing this GPO, as far as we can tell, once WMDC is installed you can re-apply it without breaking anything WMDC related; devices are detected, drivers installed and connections established as normal.
