Virus message on Boot

On initial booting up, and prior to windows starting up, I see the following message
"Caution: this hard disk may be infected by virus"
I have checked the hard disk thoroughly on another unit, and it is free of virus.
I have tried with bios setting of boot sector protected on or off, but it makes no difference??  I can still enter after this message, and run into Windows, but I cannot get rid of the message every time the computer boots.

Please help?? I cannot seem to find an answer by searching for a similar issue.

Try clearing CMOS. Check if you have a Virus Protection Scan option is BIOS, if you do, disable it.

  • Warning message on boot.

    I have a Netra ct800 running Solaris 5.8 Generic_108528-07.
As the machine is coming up I notice a warning message which reads:
"WARNING: scsb: HSC not initialized or AC not present!"
My question is, what is this message trying to tell me.
Is the a repository of error and warning messages that I can search?
I ruled out AC for the 120v power line. The machine runs on -48 volts in the telco office.
    Thanks.
    Jim

I had been noticing the fast tsc calibration failed message at boot for quite a long time on my old Samsung Q35 which is a BIOS boot netbook with arch running the x86 system. The message has continued to show up through many kernel updates including 3.17.4-1-ARCH.
After doing a bit of research I found a simple solution to getting rid of this warning during boot. In my case I use grub as the bootloader and that is where a workaround is possible.
I edited the following two lines in /etc/default/grub to add in "clocksource=tsc":
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet clocksource=tsc"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="clocksource=tsc"
Then regenerated the grub.cfg file with:
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
After rebooting the machine the tsc calibration warning no longer appears.  Presumably similar workarounds are available for other bootloaders also.
Hope this may help even though I only discovered this workaround 5 months after this thread had its last post!

Hi Bettybee2, and a warm welcome to the forums!
As for deletion, feel free to switch iDisk Sync off and then toss the disk image. If you see a warning that the file is busy when you try to empty the Trash, log out and back in again and then empty the Trash.

  • Strange message while booting up.

I get this message while booting and am wondering if anyone knows how to correct the problem.
Not activating Mandatory Access Control now since /sbin/tomoyo-init doesn't exist.
I haven't found any solutions or much explanation of what it is using google.

When I read the message I felt brave enough to try installing this mysterious tomoyo-tools, system boots fine like I didn't have it and it's happened about for a week. I forgot to have installed that.
Today my machine have had strange message and didn't boot, I've tried the fallback and the first time has worked. From fallback I have reinstalled tomoyo-tools, thinking some upgrade could have broken the package.
Well, reboot the machine and system still not booting, neither fallback this time. WTH!
I've used the livecd to move the binary /sbin/tomoyo-init (yes of course I can chroot and pacman -R but moving the binary was enough), booting correctly and pacman -R it.
The last message written was about kernel start etc, and the system stuck.

  • Help! Getting virus message...

Hi I am a new Macbook user (always had pcs prior to Macbook). I've had my Macbook for about 3 months now. Almost a month ago I tried a 30 day trial of Sophos even though Macs do not seem to get virus. But today I am getting a message from Sophos that states, " Sophos anti-virus message
Virus 'OSX/RSPlug-Gen' detected on Macintosh... Downlaods:1023.dmg. Acess to the infected file denied"
I read some old posts and saw that it was recommended to run ClamXav. So I uninstalled Sophos, restarted my computer, cleaned out cookies and caches. I then ran ClamXav. As I was running the Sophos message appeared again even though I thought I had removed Sophos. When ClamXav was finished running is said that no infected files were found but it had a note: WARNING: Can't open file Users/myname/Downloads/1023.dmg.
I am so worried that my computer has a bad virus. I don't know what's going on. I do not download songs illegally and do my best to stick to well-known websites. If anyone can help me out I would so appreciate it!

The file 1023.dmg is a Macintosh disk image file. It contains an installer that attempts to install a piece of Mac malware variously called OSX/DNSChanger or OSX.RSPlug.A. This is a Trojan horse that attempts to modify the Mac's domain name server settings so that a Mac user who surfs the Web can be secretly redirected to sites controlled by the Russian malware writers, without knowing it.
The good news is that the Mac malware can not infect a computer without help. You must choose to install it and you must type your administrator password in order to be infected. The bad news: clearly, the Mac is now on the radar of malware writers.

  • Udev-acl error message when booting after removing consolekit

    Hi all,
I remove consolekit (using pacman -Rdds consolekit) after the announcement, but when I reboot I see a lot of error messages (although my system boots OK):

Sure enough, no udev-acl executable under /usr/lib/udev

    Hello jayparks41
There are a few things to try and the article below can walk you through them before trying to hunt down a Snow Leopard install disk. I will say that it may come down to reinstall Snow Leopard but also before any troubleshooting, make sure to have a safe copy of your data.

  • [SOLVED] How to disable these messages at boot?

So I managed to install Arch, and set up the network. I have a Broadcom 4313 wireless chip, all I had to do is blacklist the bcma module, because it conflicted with the brcmsmac module, both are loaded by default (no need to add anything to MODULES=(), only the blacklist bcma entry to modprobe.conf)
So now I have a wlan0 interface that works perfectly fine, only I get these status messages during boot, that are totally unnecessary, see screenshot. These just pop up from nowhere, and annoy the heck out of me, disrupting the login and whatnot.
So can these be turned off somehow? I suspect they come from the brcmsmac module itself.

  • Silicon S-ATA raid message on boot?

The Silicon S-ATA raid message on boot stays there for (what seems like) an enternity. Can I shorten the time the message is displayed (or go somewhere and disable it?). Thanks! [stats are in sig]

Hi, Yes you can disable it in the bios.  Not sure what bois you are running but it is in there.
Try entering cmos. 4th line down on the left.(advance chipset features)
then the 3rd optioin. (Onboard device)
At the botton of the list you will see onboard sil3132 raid disable enable.  Disable it. save and exit.
Sorry for the line refference but I cannot remember what the line titles are called. (guessed at titles)
    Hope you find it ok.
