Virus on iPhone?

Hi guys,
Something very strange happened today to my 4S (iOS 6).
I had the phone (screen locked) in my pocket when it played an email alert sound and vibrated, i pulled it out and looked at the screen and saw this message: "Your help is required regards unclaimed £8.5M at our financial institution.Pls contact me on Email: ***" with a 'Dismiss' button at the bottom.
This type of alert is quite unusual in that it appeared to shade out the whole lock screen and showed white text in the centre of the screen.
When i pressed 'Dismiss' the alert the message disappeared leaving the lock screen how i left it.
I decided to do the 6.0.1 update to try and make my phone secure. When i updated the phone crashed and ended up in recovery mode (with the connect to itunes picture displayed). Ive just arrived home and connected it to my mac. I have just restored the phone (itunes has downloaded 6.0.1) successfully and the alert has appeared again. Im not liking this much at all.
All help is appreciated!
Thanks
EDIT: This picture was taken after 6.0.1 restore, where no apps or personal settings were applied.

That is not a virus. This is what is known as a "flash" or "class 0" message, generally meant to only be used by your wireless carrier to send system messages. Obviously, someone has figured out how to send spam messages to you using this system. You need to report this to your phone service provider.

Is there any truth to the rumor that there is a virus attacking iphones in the form of an IOS update?

    Absolutely not.
There was a new piece of iOS malware discovered recently, but it, like all other known iOS malware, requires that the device be jailbroken. If your iOS device isn't jailbroken, there's no known malware capable of infecting it.

  • How do I remove virus from iphone 5?

I've just received a message that my iPhone is infected with rogue virus. Not sure if real or a hoax? First time in many years that I get virus on iPhone?

It's a hoax. There are no known viruses for iOS systems. Delete the email/message, and DO NOT click on any links.

  • What is the best anti virus for iphone 5?

what is the best anti virus for iphone 5?

I concur with Tonefox; worthless. To preserve battery the best thing you can do is shut down apps that constantly run in the background and fetch data from servers elsewhere; the Facebook app being a prime example. Apple has more tips here:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
As to clearing memory, there's almost never a need, and if there is a simple restart of the iPhone will suffice.

There are no iPhone viruses that could infect non-jailbroken phones.
What makes you think that you have a virus?

  • Virus/ malware iPhone 5s + Microsoft?

I recently opened an email from Microsoft on my iPhone. The email ran something along the lines of 'your hotmail account may be compromised. Click this link if you did  not request the validation code. I clicked link but then had a moment of clarity and changed the data via my hotmail account. However since then on numerous occasions (but not every occasion) when I open emails a  screen quickly flashes up with the Microsoft account details (as in the address details when you click on sender in an email) before proceeding very quickly to my emails.
Do you think my phone has been compromised?
    Many thanks in advance.

No. Viruses do not infect i-devices.

  • PDF Virus on iPhone?

So today I received an email from a trusted friend with a pdf attached. I tried to open it on my iPhone and it would attempt to load but nothing would happen. I then went to my computer and opened the pdf file and my anti-virus program immediately caught it and said it was a trojan. Is there any way that my phone could be at risk? Thanks for the help everyone. Btw, iPhone is NOT unlocked

iOS does not function the same way under the hood as OS X or Windows.  Malware is built to take advantage of a vulnerability within a specific OS, but would likely not be able to operate on others.

  • Spam or virus in iPhone 4 - emails

Hi, I have received an e-mail message this morning. There are no information about sender or subject and the message was sent January 1, 1970. I can´t delete it and it it not possible to open the message. Can this be a kind of spam, virus or similar? I hope someone have a clue.

    You're welcome.
Nothing is infected. Even if there were any viruses that affect or infect OS X, nothing can be installed on an iPhone from a received email except for a photo, which can be done manually only, and I haven't read any reports about a Windows virus being included with a JPEG file and a Windows virus cannot affect or infect OS X.

  • Email virus on iPhone 5?

I received a suspect email on my iPhone 5 yesterday, which contained only a web link. I deleted it without accessing the link but despite this my phone sent out mails to everyone in my contacts this morning. I have had two returned as not delivered as they were picked up by the antivirus but assume all the others have reached their destination. Do I have a virus or has my mail been hacked? What can I do to check? Help!

Out of interest, is it likely that the hacking was enabled by the suspect email which I received? The guy who sent it mailed to say he had a virus.

  • IOS 8.0.2 virus on iPhone 5

    Hello,
I need to know how to downgrade my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1.2 until apple can figure out iOS 8.  I have an iPhone 5 (5,2 CDMA)  that is useless now that it has been infected with the iOS 8 virus.  Since the "upgrade" my phone will work fine until it is turned off or charged for more than 20 minutes.  Once one of those conditions is met my phone will work for 2 minutes or less and turn itself off.  It will then immediately start up again, wait two minutes, and turn off again.  The cycle never stops.  I entered DFU mode and reinstalled 8.0.2 again and my phone worked great from a 100% charge down to 0.  Not a single problem.  I plugged my phone in to charge and after about 20 minutes it started the cycle over again.

Me too my friend me too.
Half second lag before it launches an app from springboard.
Safari loads pages much slower now. Constantly has to refresh the ones I have open.
Less apps are suspended in the background.
After playing a video some app elements get shown within the status bar.
Screen goes black sometimes when receiving iMessage. Vibrations sometimes don't work.
takes a second or two to realize it's charging after I plug it in..I could keep going.
I miss you 7.1.2!!!! It was so smooth.

  • Should I have anti-virus for iPhone 3gs

Can I or should I have an anti-virus program on phone. I have been looking at slot of web apps lately and I'm worried about getting a virus.

No, there is no such thing. Don't worry about it.
The OS doesn't need it due to its locked down nature and it couldn't run a background checker even if such a thing did exist.

  • Virus on Iphone 5? problem with blue squares on screen

it jumps blue squares around my phone 5 screen, it starts with the first two icon row and jumps down to row three and four, and finally the last two. When I look at pictures it comes a thick blue bar going across the screen, almost looks as if someone scans my image. this has been going on for some days, without very much difficulty. Until now ... it’s ending in the middle of my calls, delete when I write sms, quits while I’m reading in safari. I have tried to restore the phone, but it didn’t help. Anyone who knows how to fix this problem?

Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility and turn off Switch Control. Also check the Accessibility Shortcut setting, as you probably inadvertently triggered that. You can turn that setting off as well to prevent this in the future.

  • Rogue App or Virus on iphone, help needed to delete

    Greetings,
Recently my phone starting going haywire - I would click an app or try to text and it would appear that I pressed a different app or when I would type it would enter a bunch of other letters or numbers.  I discovered a new app on my phone that I did not download. I only get apps from iTunes and I did not jailbreak my phone. I have included a pic of the program called mfiTmitupxhw (bottom right of pic).  When I try to delete it, it says " Delete Icon ~ Are you sure you want to delete the bookmark "mfiTmitupxhw"?" I always cancel because I want the program or app deleted, not just the bookmark.  I am worried the program is running in the background.  I tried syncing with iTunes, but it was still there.  Can anyone help me with deleting this program?  The phone seems to be running okay now, no funky stuff happening, but I'm still worried what the heck this program is! Thanks!

Okay, it took me a little bit but I finally see what you are both saying and see what probably happened. Still not sure what made my phone go haywire, but it seems to be resolved.  I'm hoping to get a new phone soon anyway and will leave this old one far, far away.
