Virus that wants to instal in cross over

I went to a site that redirected me to belay-one.ru/bio/invest.php
After that when I am browsing 3 crossover windows pop up and wants to install a window application.
On the bottom of the folder it says vbfolder_1s6ul  What is going on. I thought that Apple doesn't have varuses.
I can not locate the windows exe file, that I could delete that annoyong pop up. I reinstalled FireFox, and it looks like its OK browsing with FF
But on Safari is still pops up now and then and wants to install. I can not reinstall Safari through time machine, it would not let me.
Any help is appreciated.

Since I have Cross Over installed it tries to install when I am on Safari, Wow!
It is still not clear to me whether you were running the windows version of safari under crossover or running safari under mac os.  If mac os it is not causing nor going to cause any problems even if you start running crossover.
BTW, I was not on Russian site, Its my friends site and its called www.contractors4kids.org  There is a button called Find Out More, where it redirect to another site that was hijact and sends viruses. Please don't go there...
Your original post said there was redirection to "belay-one.ru/bio/invest.php" so the .ru is the designation for a Russian site.
The task is to find this EXE file
If you can't find it it may not have downloaded.  I showed you how to search for it .  I also said that if the safari download preference has not been chaned in os x safari (assuming that is what you were running) it should be in Downloads in your home directory.
If you want another search tool then get Find any File.  It will look in places spotlight doesn't normally index.

  • How do I stop an add-on that wants to install itself?

I'm going to answer my own question, because I found the solution, and wanted to share it with other users. I have a program that wants to install an add-on (a toolbar in this case). Every time I start Firefox, it opens a tab that tells me "Another program would like to modify Firefox". My choices are to install it or not allow the installation. However, if I don't allow the installation, it comes back the next time I start Firefox. It's really frustrating.

Okay, so here's my solution. I went to the Add-ons manager and selected Plug-Ins. I found the program that wanted to install the toolbar on the list, so I changed its setting to "Never Activate".

  • NEED HELP!!! want to install mountain lion over lion

getting message saying "this disk doesnt use the GUID partition table scheme" and when I try to change it in disk utility, all the options are grey. How do I go about upgrading to mountain lion at this point?

You probably can install it thru a DVD.  Do to it, start your Mountain Lion installer.  You should see it on your Dock.  Just make a Right Click, select Option and Show in Finder.  After it, make another Right Click on the Package and select "Show Package".  Brower to Content/SharedSupport.  You should see the file "InstallESD.dmg"  make a right click on this file and select Open with "DiskUtility".  Inside this tool, you'll be able to burn it.  You'll need to use a Double Layer DVD or a Blu-Ray disk.  The size of the Package doesn't fit on a regular DVD.
I did that, and now, I can have a Virtual Machine inside Vmware Fusion of Mountain Lion.  I just did my installation thru my DVD -DL and it works very well.

  • For PPC users that want to install Windows

I came across this little gem today while surfing the net.
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/highlights.aspx
It's a Virtual PC tool for G5 Mac users. And it also supports Tiger (in case you didn't upgrade to Leopard yet).
It's $129 for the "standalone" version
I know some people on here were asking about a week or two ago if they could use Bootcamp on their G5... so I figured this post would help them out.

Yeah, just open Boot Camp Assistant, restore the hard drive to a single partition and then redo the partitions again. You should have a bare minimum of about 50GB as @The hatter said. You might want to just divide equally, that's usually the easiest thing to do.

  • Installing Windows 7 over XP on a Mac Pro

    Hi Folks,
I have Windows XP dual booting on my Mac Pro using Bootcamp.  I want to install Windows 7 over Windows XP.  I know I will loose all of my windows files and will need to reinstall all windows software.  But will this work?  Will it impact my mac os?  Are there any issues I should be aware of?
Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated.
    TIA,
    Shane

Lion is the easiet way to get current drives and because Apple security is better on 10.6.8 and Lion. Lion though really needs to reformat the drive the OS goes to (keep the old one as dual boot backup) and needs to add Lion Recovery.
There are no Apple support drivers w/o 10.6.3+.
8 is free and runs well or better -
so just boot Windows 7 and format the partitiion. What's to know? You want Windows 7 Pro if you have two processor (dual socket) or want to use more than 16GB RAM.
You do not want 32-bit. But it does matter what Mac model, 2006-7? or later. 2008 has full support for Windows 64-bit, the others don't but then you get stuck with trouble booting and trouble using more than 1.9GB making it next to impossible. That is and will be an issue.
And you need 10.6.3 DVD to have the Apple support software.
The number of threads moved and placed in wrong forum (Mac Pro turns out to be MacBook Pro) so I have to ask and because there ARE issues with Windows 7 on early Mac Pro model.

  • Unknown video player wanting to install on Safari

Twice now, I've had a dialog box open in Safari telling me there is a new video player that wants to install itself, and it will not let me close the box or change web sites.  The only way to get rid of the message seems to be force quitting Safari.  I was not visiting a site which requires a video player.
There is no name associated with this video player.  Might anyone know what's up with this?  I am using Safari 5.1.10 and OS 10.6.8.
    Thanks.

Some of those scam threat pages can be dismissed very easily. Press command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up with more illiterate, childish threats. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
From the Safari menu bar, select

Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.

It has happened both a number of times and regularly so i suspect that there may be a cross-over in the mapping of online numbers.... anyone else getting something like this? is it possible?

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

Hi, the last install dvd that came out for mac's was Snow Leopard,10.6.3. Lion is a download from apple. You cannot just install it over Yosemite. You would have to backup your drive to save files you want and do a clean install. You might want to look into getting more memory. You can run 8 Gig"s of memory on your Macbook Pro.If your Macbook Pro is getting really slow you might want to download EtreCheck  and then post the results here.http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck  Check out this article.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19031

My imac running OS 10.6.8, and want to install Garmin software that needs OS10.7.
The latest upgrade Maverick requires a MAC dated 2007 or later. Where is the date... It is NOT in "About this Mac".
I feel an older upgrade than Maverick might be better for my machine?
Is it possible to upgrade to ie, 10,7? or another recommended upgrade.
    How to proceed?

Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?

  • Want to install 9.2.2 on my G4 that's running OSX 10.2.8

G4 originally had OS9 installed, which eventually got upgraded all the way up to 9.2.2 whereupon OS9 "died." I had lots of apps I needed in OS9, so when I installed OSX 10.2 Jaguar over it, I partitioned the HD to be able to boot/switch between both. Worked fine, until I had a lightning strike and ended up having to wipe the HD, replace ethernet card, and then re-install system software.
I installed 10.2 Jaguar from the CDs, without partitioning the HD--I was planning on forgetting OS9 and just buying new versions of software I needed, but cost is looking prohibitive. Also, my Epson scanner doesn't seem to want to work in OSX, nor does my LaCie CD burner. Both of those only have OS9 drivers on the install CDs, and I haven't found OSX versions online.
What I want to do is go back to my original OS9 CD and install 9.0 in a partition of my HD (there's like 17 GB available) and then upgrade in stages up to 9.1, 9.2.1, and finally 9.2.2, which would put me back to where I was before the storm,
Can I do this, and if so, how? Do I have to initialize the HD again, (hope not) and start with installing OS9 and then installing OSX back over it?
I understand my OSX CD comes with 10.2, so I would need to again upgrade in stages, 10.2.4...6, and then 8 or however many steps there are.
So, how to get back to my old set-up?

Aargh. This in now officially a nightmare.
Ok, here's what happened: 9.1 installed good from the installer I brought home on the CD from work. This was the last good thing to happen during the evening.
9.2.1 installer was moved off the CD onto the desktop, but the machine would keep freezing right after it started to copy. Mouse moved, but nothing was selectable. Restarted using the triangle button on G4, it did the same thing at the same point. (Corrupt copy of 9.2.1 on the CD?) I wondered if simply the large file size (the .smi was like 82 MB or something) was clogging the transfer, but to test that theory I moved the 9.2.2 .smi to the desktop in a snap, no problems.
Wondered if I could move the 9.2.1 .smi from the CD to a zip disk better, and then from zip to desktop, but it froze the same way copying to zip, so...manual restart. No longer trust the 9.2.1 that's on the CD, fine.
I noticed that under apple>control panels>startup, that my OSX system was now selectable, though. I figured if I could now boot to OSX, I could use the internet to d/l the 9.2.1 install fresh from Apple and resume the sequence.
Got a warning: You are about to change the active system folder for the current startup disk. May cause unpredictable results.
I wondered if I was causing a conflict with where my system folders were and what they were named...so I tried typing an "X" in the one that was the OSX one (I think it was still in...coreservices>library on the HD) but got the same message. Moved it, got the same message. I put everything back the way it was... *I think*...but, now I could no longer had any dropdown options under the apple, other than "about this mac."
Which makes me think maybe I didn't put everything back where it belonged.
Next I got a warning that:
You don't have a valid System folder. System and Finder must be in the same System folder. If you continue, you may not be able to restart computer.
So quit out of that, and checked to see that they were indeed both there. And they were-- my system folder, the 9.1 one, DID have a system folder (the suitcase-looking one, if I recall right), and it DID have the Finder folder. I did a command-i on both of them just to be sure they were both OS 9.1 versions, and they were...looked like everything was right.
(I'm guessing the culprit was really the OSX system folder, which by originally telling the startup disk control panel I wanted to boot to, it wasn't seeing what and where it wanted to.)
Which really is the bottom-line question I have here:
What, exactly, should be the proper name and location of the system and finder folders for both OS 9 AND OSX once they're properly installed and happy together and I can switch between them like I did before?
But I'm probably getting ahead of myself. Back to the situation, I selected OSX as the startup (again) just so I could copy down the warning message exactly, so I could post it in here. (Couldn't do it from the apple>control panels>startup disc, but I realized I could manually open the startup panel from the apple items folder>control panels folder.)
Problem is, this time I didn't GET the warning message, it actually attempted to re-start. I was surprised, because I thought all it would do is display the error for me to copy, and I'd back out of it.
Well, it attempted to start under Jaguar, "like it was told to", and when the gray startup screen with the apple first started to appear, I thought maybe I'd dodged a bullet and it was going to work. Nope, the screen turned into a "scratchy", distorted Apple logo picture. And I couldn't go backwards or forwards.
By now quite thoroughly irritated, I booted from the original OSX CD. Ran disk first aid, it said HD was fine. I went to disk setup to partition the drive, thinking "enough of this trying to get 9 and X to live together, they can go to separate corners." Partioned the drive (which of course wiped it) into two partitions, named top one Jaguar and bottom one Classic 9.
Re-installed OSX fresh from the original CDs into the Jag partition.
Internet didn't work because I didn't have drivers for my Ethernet card installed, but I dug out the software CD that came with it, went to re-install. CD drive, though, just clicks slowly and doesn't seem to want to come up to speed. In fact, the machine DOES start up in 10.2, but wow, does it take it a long time. Much longer than "normal."
If I remember right, the Ethernet CD eventually did mount, because I'm sure I've currently got the installer on my OSX desktop. I don't think it would install, though, but I don't remember the particulars.
I had to turn the thing off with the power button on the front of the case, and that's where it sits, at home.
My plan A, right now, is probably to forget OSX 9 as the dead horse it is, and just bite the bullet and buy/beg/borrow/steal an OSX version of Photoshop, which is my only REAL reason for wanting 9 anyway. My old legacy version (4.0) is far less capable than the newer one anyway.
So, change back to one partition and re-install just Jaguar in one volume. I don't know if doing that would let me use peripherals that worked in OS9, like my LaCie burner, Wacom drawing tablet, and Epson scanner, but I GUESS I could get OSX drivers that would make them functional in Jaguar.
Plan B probably involves me drop-kicking the whole drive into Lake Erie, which I don't really WANT to do, but could at least do without asking how on this forum.
How come even Jaguar, though, doesn't seem to be happy? It goes back to that "bottom-line" question-- what EXACTLY should my system folder/finder folder be called, and where exactly should they be?
What sequence should I follow if I go with "Plan A" above?
