Virus?  Updates installed without asking permission....

My friend sent me an e-mail yesterday stating:
*"About 3 days ago I came into my office and my computer said I would need to restart for the updates to .... normaly it won't download an update unless it asks. Since then I am having trouble with the airport signal staying strong enough in my office and the batteriy won't charge unless the computer is turned off ... everything is very, very slow."*
I know that his computer is near a very strong Netgear Router and normally gets 100% signal strength from his office.
Can someone help us to know what to do?
Thanks

I have no idea what to do or what the diagnosis for this is, but im going to throw out a possible cause?... :P
Maybe the battery is acting up with the charging issue and causing magnetic distortion of the wireless network?... Improbable, but not impossible
Im not sure about it being a virus for two reasons, 1. they're kind of hard to find, 2. creating a virus to stop a battery from charging sounds sort of difficult to do and would only affect a very FEW number of people out of the whole computing world
Thats as much as i can do for you, hope someone can help you soon.

The lasted update install it self without my permission. You had remind me everyday to install it, but I deny because I need my RoboForm very much, but now it's gone. I need it so badly

I don't see how the Password Exporter extension would work in Firefox 32. The password files were changed as of Firefox 32, and that extension doesn't look like it was updated.

    Version 1.2.1
Released August 29, 2010 - ''Over 4 years since the last update.''
Works with Firefox 3.0 and later ....
    See if this helps you.
Type '''about:config''' in the Location Bar and hit Enter.
Paste this pref in the Search field at the top.
    '''signon.importedFromSqlite'''
Then double-click that pref to toggle it to false, then restart Firefox.
Hopefully your Passwords will show again.

  • RAW 5.02 update installed without asking for admin creds

I was prompted to install this update while logged in to a non-admin account.  I went ahead, but it never asked me for admin credentials which I thought was odd.  Is this correct behavior?
I did check disk permissions and nothing showed up.

At least in OS X Mavericks, you are not asked for the user account password when you install OS X updates from Software Update. This does not happen if you download and install the updates from the Apple website.
If you want to be asked for your user password, send the idea to Apple > http://www.apple.com/feedback

  • How do creative cloud apps get installed without asking for administrator?

The title says it all but I'll reiterate. How do CC apps downloaded with the Creative Cloud desktop app get installed without asking for administrator user/password? Its the sam on both Mac and Windows and I don't understand how its doing it. This seems like a security hole to me.

JscottCMD are you installing the Adobe Creative applications with a Creative Cloud Individual subscription?  If so please see Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html for information on how to install the applications and updates included with your membership.

  • Hello got installed without my permission

The Hello app or "Start a Conversation" icon showed up in my Firefox browser tab/interface without my permission. I remember getting an email saying I downloaded Start a Conversation from the app store (itunes) and then as quickly as the email opened, it disappeared without me deleting it. I never downloaded anything like that. When the email disappeared, I thought nothing of it, maybe I pressed delete by accident and thought it was just spam anyway. Today I noticed this icon showed up in my browser without me doing anything. It is a smiley face when I hover says Start a Conversation. Did I get a virus? I'm using a Macbook Pro with Yosemite installed. How do I delete this icon? I removed it from the browser interface using Customize, but I don't know how to delete it.

The selected solution only removes the button from toolbar, however the code, ports and connection to loop is still open and firefox can be connected using that port, which is a very good backdoor for spying!
To remove it completely one have to open omni.ja file and remove all the scripts related to loop ("start a conversation" and "share this page") which is impossible to open because its format is not a standard zip and tools to open it does not exists anymore (outdated, removed or not working anymore).
if there was a good intention of making this stuff, firefox developers could put it as an extension which was possible to enable/disable. I want it removed from my browser and don't want to see this kind of stuff on it again. If a checkbox to enable javascript makes firefox complicated, this one for sure does a hell worst job in complicating problems. JUST REMOVE IT

  • Updates Install without user intervention

    Hi All,
I am currently using WSUS and GPO's to push updates to our Windows 2008 R2 Servers.  We just began doing this within the last couple of months and have created the GPO to "auto download updates and notify for install".  The only other
relevant setting is "reschedule Automatic updates scheduled installations" is set to 15 minutes.  Based on our setting of "notify for install", I would not expect this setting to have any effect.
Now twice in the last week, individual server administrators have been working on their servers, rebooted for whatever reason and then they report to me that Windows Updates are installing without their approval.  Anyone have any ideas how this could
    happen?
    Thanks

"I'm absolutely sure they didn't either. That's my exact point. The user does not "initiate" an installation of downloaded updates when the system is shutdown/restarted from the Start Menu -- it happens automatically since Windows 7 SP1."
If this is the case it explains what's happening and I have to stop this.  What settings then can I use to install the approved updates only if the sys admin initiates it?
There are two ways to approach this:
Configure the WUA to "Notify for Download" (AUOption='2'). As a result, the sysadmin will need to perform two tasks: [1] Download the updates (at which time the Install Updates and Shutdown consideration is in effect, and then [2] Install the updates when
desired. This implies planning in advance to allow for the download time, and then planning for the installation event.
Use the Command Prompt to reboot the server: SHUTDOWN /R /T which will completely avoid the installation of any updates already downloaded.
Personally I would offer this argument for consideration: Why is a sysadmin rebooting a server without consideration for the fact that updates might be pending installation? Most organizations I know
only restart servers as a function of installing updates, usually during scheduled maintenance windows. Any other activities that require a system restart are deferred until that scheduled maintenance window.
A corollary to this is also: Why is a sysadmin unfamiliar with patch state of the system they're responsible for?

  • Why the App can automatically installed without my permission?

Why the Funshion Online Technologies App can automatically installed on my iPhone which without my permission?

  • Updates installed without my agreement

I've recently noted some software updates from Apple were automatically installed on my system without my O.K. In particular, the 3 recent iWork '08 updates for Pages,Numbers, and Keynote as well as the iLife'08 update(I don't even have iLife'08) were just installed with no input from me. Why doesn't Software Update ask me if I want to download the updates(let alone install them) like it usually does?

Yes, it does seem impossible, although I will not doubt you. If you claim they are installed, I take you at your word. With this said, all three updates were very small and will not harm anything. If you really want them out of your system, you will have to do a search and delete. Unplug your computer and wrap it in tin foil next time you leave the country. I heard of this happening, outside a crop circle during a lunar eclipse.

  • How can I use family sharing, but allow my daughter to purchase with her iTunes allowance without asking permission?

I love the idea of iTunes family sharing, but I don't think it currently supports my situation.
My daughter's iTunes account gets a monthly allowance (plus occasional gift cards), and does not have a credit card tied to it. That way, she can buy whatever she wants, but only with her existing account balance.
I'd like to tie her account to mine via family sharing, but want to keep her spending limited to just her allowance balance. Also, I don't need to grant permission each time she wants to buy something when using her balance. Ideally, she would be permitted to buy exactly as she does now (no permission necessary, no credit card on the account, and only using allowance funds), but also be tied my family account to listen to music I've already bought.
It appears that my 3 options are:
Do not do family sharing and keep the accounts separate.
Tie the accounts together, put "ask to buy" on her account, and then get bugged for permission each time she wants to get something (as well as keep track myself of her going over her allowance and dipping into my credit card).
Tie the accounts together, don't use "ask to buy", and keep my fingers crossed that she doesn't spend more than her allowance amount (because iTunes would permit spending more than that and charge my card).
Options 2 and 3 don't work for me, and option 1 doesn't take advantage of family sharing.
Can I have a family sharing account that *doesn't* charge to my credit card?

    Hello jeffchr,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you don't want to be billed for a family members purchases. I would recommend that you read these articles, they explain the features options.
    Family Sharing
All new iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases initiated by family members will be billed to the family organizer’s account.
    Family purchases and payments
    Making purchases
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.
How iTunes Store purchases are billed
Which payment methods will be used first?
When you make a purchase, content credits are used first, followed by Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, or Allowance Account credits. Your credit card or PayPal account is then charged for any remaining balance.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Mario

  • How can I enable Firefox to redirect to another part of the site I use regularly without asking permission

I use a website about 2 or 3 times a week. After logging onto the website, it needs to redirect me to another page but always asks for my permission to allow.
Where in the Tools, Options does it allow me to give automatic permission to be redirected. Otherwise, I sit looking at the screen waiting for it to change, having not noticed ther bar at the top of the page, waiting!!
    Thanks

Go to the Advance panel of the Options dialog, in the General tab there is a setting "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"

  • Got the add-on Blur installed without asking for it.How come ?

I was logging to my Internetbank , which then proposed to hide my mailadress via Blur . I said no thanks but then
found that Blur had been added to my browser , and it took me some effort to find out . Maybe the idea of a
fake mailadress is a good one , but I detest companies that sneak in upon you what you have not asked for.
That does definitely not inspire to let them know any secrets . They also wanted to store password for me. NO THANKS!
    Karl

This happens many times because there is a program or file that automatically does this. They tend to be scams and may harm your computer. You may not remember downloading it and it may not have been your intention. These things many times are installed with other files or programs making them hard to prevent.
    I hope i helped!

  • Firefox just updated itself without asking me and now says it cannot run on my version of Mac. I do not want to update Mac, How do I uninstall the FF update?

I tried downloading a firefox version (3.6?) that was compatible with Mac 10.4 and replacing the firefox on my system but it did not work.

hello, the last version that was compatible with os x 10.4.11 is firefox 3.6.28 - you can download it from here: [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]

  • Z 4.6.7.7 is installed without my permission and NONE of your ways of uninstalling it work

all of the extensions in the program files folder for firefox are EXACTLY the same. all nonsense letters and numbers, and in them are files with the exact same name. it is impossible to tell which one is the one i need to get rid of

Use the following extension to determine which folder belongs to which extension:
    *'''''Extension List Dumper''''': https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/extension-list-dumper/
*After install, a new button is added in the upper right of the Add-ons display (''Add-ons > Extensions'').
**Click that button, a new window will open, <u>be sure that only the "ID" option is checked</u>
**Scroll down the list to find the Extension name and the ID will be immediately under it.
**The ID will correspond to the name of the folder in your Profile/extensions folder
Finding/opening your Profile folder: Click Help > Troubleshooting Information > under "Application Basics" find "Profie Directory" and click "Open Containing Folder" to the right, then click the "extensions" folder.
    *Also see --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Profiles#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile
    *Also see --> http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox#Finding_the_profile_folder
If the extension reappears after restarting Firefox and/or you computer, the item is being added by an application that your installed and you will need to determine what needs to be removed from Windows Control Panel

  • "Hello" got installed without my permission. Can "disable" but not uninstall. Why?

I've been searching the net and can't find any description of how to remove "Hello". I don't allow anything on my computer that can switch on cameras or microphones or wants my contact information.
Why is this not a plug-in or add-on that people can choose to install or not?

Firefox Hello is a new feature in Firefox 35 or 36 I believe. You can disable it if you don't use it by going to <b>about:config</b>
    *Search for <i>loop.enabled</i>
*Set it from <b>true</b> to <b>false</b>
*Restart Firefox to complete the disabling of Hello.
