  • Air or Pro for Recording vocals with GarageBand or PT and Producing

I'm considering buying a MacBook and would like to get a new Air. I will be using it mainly for recording my vocals on beats that I have bought on iTunes. I'm also going to be taking a couple of Coursera classes on music production. Can the new Air's handle GarageBand or Pro Tools well? I've been using my iPhone 4S with GarageBand to record but I would like to do more editting of my vocals with Pro Tools. The reason I like the Air is b/c it is light and easy to transport.

One thing with vocalists, I can think of, is to show them the input device, and have them watch the clip meter. After a few takes, if they are somewhat savvy at singing into a mic, they'll start to back off on strong notes, and moving in on subtle notes. If you watch a pro singer on stage, you'll see them pulling the mic in close for soft stuff, and backing it way off for the strong notes. In the studio, the same techniques can be used, but the person has to back away, rather than a hand held mic pulled away.
Hardware can help this to an extent, but the singer has to take some action to get the best performance recorded. If I were going to use hardware, it'd probably be limiting more so than compression. Limiting can keep your signal under control, without doing too much to the dynamics. I'd prefer to save compression for post, so I can decide what sounds best. I used to have a female vocalist with an amazing voice. i was NEVER able to capture her properly on tape, since I had no pre processing at all. She is still in this area, and I have invited her to come record some vox for me, because I want to see if I can now get a grip on them. If I ever do, she'll be featured on an upcoming CD

  • No audio output for CS5 even with Audio Output box checked

Ever since about a year or so, My CS5 has been unable to render any projects with audio outputs, regardless of the audio format. I had checked the Audio Output box in the Output Module setting every time.Still no audio. Now I have to export the project to Premiere to output it. In my current project, my audio is a MP3 music file. Same result. Should I convert the audio into certain formats first?

Just speaking from experience on my own systems, irrespective of software used, I have found that despite being able to play both 44100 khz and 48000 khz my Blackmagic based systems have sometimes had issues with mute audio On one of the settings but fine on the other. If you start with an accepted preset and work from there it might be best.
Are you sure the audio track(s) is turned on in the timeline? I know it is ridiculous but we can all develop silly habits and keep on making the same mistakes over and over when we try to make things work, then add some more mistakes for good measure having forgotten to return settings to their previous state.
Also, I would not assume you are dealing with one error only, sorry. :-)

  • Software for recording video with built in i-sight for new macbooks mbp?

Does any software exist that will allow a macbook or a macbook pro user to record video with their built in isight camera at the top of the screen? If so, let me know. I need to document countless hours of reading the forums...

iMovie will allow you to record from your built in iSight as well.
Lastly, Conference Recorder will allow you to record iChat video conversations. It can be found here: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/conferencerecorder/

  • Recommended tool for recording screen, adding audio later

I need to create a training video on my MAC (new MAC user). I used to use (gasp!) Flash to produce training videos, and that allowed me to add audio files separately. Like the rest of the world, our company is getting more and more MAC users, so I need to find a new tool to generate a video that is Windows, MAC, and iPad 2 compatible. Since it appears that it's easier to produce something for Windows from a MAC rather than the reverse, I've opted to use my MAC at home to do this project. However, I'm a MAC novice, so I don't have many tools at my disposal, and I'm in unfamiliar territory.
I would LIKE to create a video screen capture, add audio separately, perhaps in segments, do some video editing to correct my mistakes, and perhaps add some text to the video. I need to capture the mouse cursor as well. And of course, I'd like to keep the cost at a minimum. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm currently considering iMovie for editing, but it isn't clear to me if I can capture the screen video and cursor with this tool.
Easy Video Recorder for Mac is another option. Has anyone used this tool? Is there a better option?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or guidance you can provide to this new MAC convert.

    Hi eholz1,
The method I favor is not included in
any of your three (3) options. I agree that the "script is
everything", but I generally add audio from that script as a
separate step - after the recording process - as a part of the
routine editing procedure. That works better for me than to narrate
    while recording.
I reject out of hand the idea of using a third-party audio
program to separately record audio to be separately
inserted/imported later ... the work involved in synchronizing
audio on the time-line is considerable, and often results in its
own horror stories about editing slide audio timing to correspond
to slide timing of objects and other actions. But maybe that's just
me. But maybe it's not ...
    see
    this thread
for an example of how screwed up and frustrated you can
become, trying to fit a round peg into a square hole (with all
respect to the author of that thread.
In other news, I see nothing wrong with calling members uh,
members. I respond pretty well to any name that doesn't reference a
body part or function thereof. As a matter of fact, I've even been
called that (right here) from time to time. Sigh. So hard to
generate a little hero worship nowadays - but even so, I think I'll
    keep on being me.
    Have a nice day!

  • Recording Meetings with Audio

Has anyone attempted to record an Adobe Connect session using
audio input from a mic connected to their PC? I am trying to record
a web cast session using a stand alone microphone to pick up
conversation in the room. The web portion records correctly (am
able to see the presentation) but the audio does not record. I have
tried adjusting the mic settings in Windows XP and ran the audio
wizard in Adobe, but no luck. Any assiatance would be greatly
    appreciated.

Yeah, that seems to sound about right. I would try a USB mic.
My luck with line mics has been spotty at best. Currently my Dell
Laptop makes me sound like I'm recording techno unless I use a USB
mic. This may just have to do with the audio card in the computer,
but I have never had a problem with a USB mic. So you can get a
good USB mic for $20-50 and that may solve your problems.

  • Docking station for iphone 6 with audio out

    Hey guys,
I searched for quite some time and only found one dockingstation with an audio output, and that one was for 69$ which is too expensive in my view.
Do you know a dockingstation where I can put in my Iphone 6 with case and which has an audio output?
    Best regards,
    Ulrich

freedaze, What I want is a docking station that operates on AC power and/or batteries.
I want it to have the capability of docking the iPhone5, being able to talk on speaker phone using speakers and microphone on the docking station NOT the iPhone.
I don't care about clock or other "bells and whistles".  I'm actually surprised that it is so hard to find these features.  All the docking stations I've found use the microphone in the iPhone.  They play music through the docking speakers but don't address the speaker phone needs.  Thanks for trying though.

  • Recording FaceTime with Audio Hijack 3

    Hi
I'm trying to record a FaceTime conversation using the full licensed version of Audio Hijack 3 on my MacBook Air. I'm using FaceTime as an input and also my mic as an input. I hear myself clearly and there is no echo. But the FaceTime caller, well, that's either distorted or there is an echo. I've turned off the recorder for my mic because that was making things worse. What should I do? I'm stumped. Thank you
    E

If you look in System Preferences (under the Apple menu) in the Sound pane, under the Input tab, what device is selected? If you make a noise do you see the Input level change?
    Best of luck.

  • Sound for recording video and audio not working

I have tried everything to get the sound to work.  I have reinstalled the audio driver.  When I go to soundrecording.exe to see if I can record sound it gives me a message "An audio recording device cannot be found."  Please help this is driving me crazy.

well, since people can hear you on a call, it's not a hardware problem with the microphone.
It appears to be something wrong with your recording apps -- the camera (in the case of video) and whatsapp.
    First attempt would be to:
    a) install another camera app with video capability and see if IT will record audio. and
    b) uninstall and reinstall whatsapp to see if that fixes the problem.
If that doesn't work, to a backup, then try a hard reset and re-install the apps one by one, confirming that recording works after each install.

  • Recording video with audio using FaceTime

Hi, I'm stupid, I need help, this is probably very simple but I can't seem to make it work!
I have a new iMac 27inch, it has Facetime built in, or should I say it has a camera built in.
Basically I want to record a video for Youtube of me playing the guitar, how do I do this, is this possible.
I tried using iMovie, recorded away, played it back but there was no sound to it?
    Any help greatly appreciated. thanks

  • Example VIs for winsock with LabVIEW 7.0

Are there any example VIs for TCP communications with winsock using LabVIEW 7.0?

I would like to join the request - I would like to know how to use WinSock from within LabVIEW to use a modem to dial a number and connect to another PC with a modem. An extra complicaiton is the fact that I need to be able to vary the number (to access numerous data acquisition stations).

  • Why can't I enable an audio track for recording? (It won't let me)

I want to record VO but PP won't let me...
On Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite in System Preferences:
    • Sound Input is set to C-Media USB Headphone Set (an Alesis usb mic...works fine for VO in Final Cut Pro 7)
    • Output is set to Headphone port
In Premiere Pro CC Audio Hardware Preferences:
    • ASIO Hardware is set to "System Default Input/Output"
    • I have also tried "C-Media USB Headphone Set but this, too, doesn't work
    • With "System Default I/O" selected, Output Mapping is set to "Adobe Desktop Audio" (only choice), and shows:
         • "Built-in Output: Headphones 1
         • "Built-in Output: Headphones 2
         • "C-Media USB Headphone Set: Front Left
         • "C-Media USB Headphone Set: Front Right
all four of these have a couple of square icons to the right.
In order to record VO, I first need to "enable track for recording" in the Audio Track Mixer. There are no in or out points set in my timeline and the tracks are not locked or solo'd or anything. So why can't I select the audio track I want to use to record VO? I click it but there is no response. I just want to know why this software is not doing what it's designed to do.

is I learn still around -? That was VERY HANDY!

  • Recording distortion with IDT audio codec

I have 3 DV7s (2x 7250us, 1x 7259us).  They all have the IDT codec (6.10.6418.0) installed.  Using Windows Sound Recorder, recordings are badly distorted (sounds like old Single Side Band, but worse).  I have tried the various versions of the codec and have reinstalled the previously referenced version to no avail.  Recording is virtually useless.  I have tried 3rd party recording software... useless.  I have tried external mikes.  Same results.
I need a codec that I can record with.

Hi Curt2020, welcome to the HP Forums. I suspect with multiple notebooks doing the same thing, that it is probably performing properly. I do not know of a CODEC that will improve your recording performance. I have found a few pages with various tips which may help.

  • What wireless microphone works best with ipad for recording videos

I am wanting to purchase a wireless microphone for recording videos with my ipad version 8.2. Do anyone have a suggestion?

    Hi gentleone,
You likely have polarized sunglasses. If you turn your iPad from portrait to landscape (or vice versa) you'll be able to see your screen. I've experienced that with my sunglasses... The workaround to rotate it 90 degrees works for me
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Button Link Transitions with Audio?

Ive got a question on what can be used as a Button Transition. I have a 10 sec. AV in PP2, that I want to use. In general, no problems. Ive Exported the Video to DV-AVI (silent), and it works beautifully. I only have to do a blend from the Menu for the head and then a still from the Timeline at the tail. No biggie. What I am having problems with is getting an SFX Audio file into the PP2 Sequence for this Transition. So far, I am having problems. I tried to make a Timeline for this AVI with an AC3 Audio, but Encore2 would not allow a link to it, via the Pickwhip. I tried to Import several variations of muxed files, but kept getting errors with the number of channels on Import. Then, I did a muxed MPEG file, and got my first big "Crash" of Encore2. When I linked to the M2v, I got something about Abbie Normal Condition. Wasnt he the founder of the Yippies back in the 60s, along with poet, Allen Ginsberg? The error (really An Abnormal Condition... Please try to Save... ) came up and I could not even exit from Encore2. Had to finally use TaskManager to kill the Process. This was a first for me after all of these years. Lesson - do not use the M2v as a Button Transition!
Now, Im certain that there are possibilities that I have not tried, but before I beat what could be a dead horse, I wanted to find out one thing: can I even have Audio in a Button Transition?
I have total control over my Asset, so I can engage in any workaround necessary. If anyone has any info (Help/Manual do not go deeply into specifics on Button Transitions, and even Jeffs Book, Focal Easy Guide... doesnt mention them, as I can find.), Id greatly appreciate it. Same for any ideas on using Audio for these. In my case, its a bit of an electronic whoosh with a long gong tone, and moves left to right and rear to front to rear (in the 5.1 version). I do not need to do 5.1, as stereo, panned left to right would work fine too.
Appreciate the direction, thoughts and ideas,
    Hunt

    Jbowden,
Thanks for the simple little test. I just linked my existing SFX AC3 to the Main Menu's Audio and it worked fine. The pan/fade of the 5.1 was intact and worked in Preview.
I Exported the Button Transition test as a DV-AVI/PCM WAV from PP2, and Imported as a Timeline into Encore2. Tested and it played fine, but there was just the left-right pan, as expected. Linked my Button #1 to the AVI, as it would not link to the Timeline (as before), and went to Preview - "An Abnormal Condition... Save... " happened again. It is obviously not just the M2v, but the AVI, as well.
Back to square one in my tests. I've been working with a preliminary, test Project in Encore. It was used to create a DVD set for client review of most other aspects of the Project. It contained 4 Dynamic Links to AE, which were rendered out, plus 2 Menus a short lead-in AVI and some other Assets. Without any Button Transitions, it previewed and burned perfectly.
What I am going to do now is create a fresh Encore2 Project. Initially, it will only have the Play First AVI, the two Menus (Main & Scene Selection) and then I'll work with just the Button Transitions - all other Assets will not be included. I want to eliminate any other possible problem from the mix.
One thing that occurred to me was that this Project was a very full DVD. Though the Transcode is Automatic, I wonder if I am now adding too much to an already Transcoded Project. Rather than clear all Caches, and Revert to the unTranscoded state in this Project, I'll build, instead, from scratch. If that works, I'll just do the Button Transitions for the Scene Select Menu (4 Buttons/Links) and test again. If it still goes well, I'll add in the Rendered AE files and probably not use DL this time. Then, I'll Transcode and test to see if it all holds up. This method will not tell us exactly where the problem lies, if it works at all, but then when I have time, I can go back and clean Caches and Revert the Assets for a final test.
To date, the motion-only Button Transitions worked fine. It was only when I have tried (several different schemes) to add Audio, that I have encountered the problem.
Should have the preliminary test this AM, as the Project is very simple and starting over is not a big deal.
One side observation that I have made is that after I had to use TaskManager to end the Encore2 Process the other day, it now takes Encore2 a few minutes to even get the Splash Screen up. This is new behavior. I also cannot shift focus to/from Encore2 (with PP2 open), by clicking on the icon in the Taskbar. Even Rt-clicking and choosing Restore does not Maximize it. Only by going to TaskManager and clicking on the Application does it Maximize. As this was my first Encore2 "Crash," I am not sure what might be happening there. If I can get this Project done, I'll probably do a Repair Installation of Encore2, to see if the new behavior subsides.
Thanks for the input. Will be back with followups.
    Hunt
