Visible (don't print)

With designer 7.1 I can set the visibility option for the print button to "visible (don't print)" without difficulty.
However when I create any object and wish to invoke the "visible (don't print)" option that field is grayed out.
My work-around is to use another designer program for this purpose but I shouldn't have to do that.
What step am I missing?
Howard

Currently the "visible (don't print)" option only applies to buttons. For any other type of field you'll need to set it to invisible in the prePrint event and back to visible in the postPrint event.

I have made a book of my iPhoto pictures. In certain layouts there is a text frame. How can I avoid the frame becoming visible in the print if I don't want to write anything?  Should I just leave it untouched or should I delete the instructing text "Write your text here"?

Most pages have layouts for pictures only or pictures with text boxes. Either select the same layout for that page but the one without the text box or put a space in the text box.
Putting a space in the text box will avoid getting the warning when ordering that there's an unfilled text box in the book. The box will not be visible in the final product.  You can and should check the book before ordering by previewing it as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it

  • Exporting a PDF so that non-printing objects show but don't print?

I've just spent a couple hours trying to find an answer to this in the forums, but can't. (The most frustrating was one thread where the original poster said, "I found the answer here," and gave a link that went right back to the main page of the forum. Argh.)
Okay, anyway ... what I need to do?
I've got a document with graphics that I want to show up on the pdf when I export it, but that--if a reader prints it--don't print.
The document looks like a 3-ring binder with "tabs" for each section--just like the real thing. But the rings and tabs go right up to the edge and look terrible when printed, and whose printer can print right at the edge of the paper, anyway? But the tabs work as navigational links while looking a the pdf, and the rings just make it look cool, so I WANT them in the pdf.
    I've tried:
Turning the entire layer into a non-printing layer (one that "shows" but does not "print"). But when I export it to a pdf, it doesn't show up on the pdf to look at OR to print. So that doesn't work.
Using the Attribute option to turn each object into a non-printing object, but so far as I can tell, that doesn't do a thing, because they still print from the pdf.
Exporting with the "create pdf layers" turned on and off. Exporting with the "include non-printing items" turned on and off.
Basically, I've pretty much tried everything. I gather, from browsing the forums, that this is POSSIBLE, but can't for the life of me figure out what to do to make it happen. (Short of hiding the tabs' layer and creating an entirely separate PDF and calling it "Print version" which is not exactly what I want to do!)
Is there maybe some magical combination of ons and offs I need to select to make this whole thing work?
(And, seriously, am I the only person who thinks the supporting documentation is just dreadful? I can't find anything in any of the Help screens that even mentions this, much less explains how to do it.)
    Any help is appreciated!!

    Partial progress...
The button option (and, I'm using CS3, by the way--I should have said that originally) does work in terms of showing on the pdf but not printing.
The problem is that it messes up the way the document looks.
I said it's designed to look like a 3-ring binder with tab-dividers between each section, and each tab has a hyperlink to take you to that section.
Now, when you've got a paper binder in front of you, the tabs stay in the same sequence, and often overlap a bit (which mine do). The problem I'm having, having turned all of them into buttons, is that when you click on any of them, it "jumps" to the front of the row, so that they don't "flow" in the correct sequence.
Am I explaining this well? You know, the top-most tab is at the top of the pile, the next one is always below it and above the third one, and so on ... you never see the second tab on TOP of the first one. I'm trying to get the document to act as close to a hard-copy binder as I can, and it did ... except the buttons keep jostling each other for attention...
I'm going to go play around with this some more now, but ... any suggestions? (Other than restructuring my tabs so that they don't overlap at all?)

  • HT3669 Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. Can someone please advise me how I get the printer to work with my i-Mac? I have installed it but documents don't print. Thanks

Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. I have the latest (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) OS-X software.
I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?
    Thanks, John Lee

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

  • Some Adobe PDF documents don't print from Adobe Reader; with other software it works correctly

    Dear community,
I'm facing the problem that some Adobe PDF documents with lots of colors and lines (size less than 3 MB) don't print on our printers from Adobe Reader XI.
The same files when opened with PDF XChange or PDF Architect are printed out without problems.
How can I provide an Adobe Reader that is able to do so? Any recommendations about solving the issue are very appreciated.
    Best regards

Word document problem fixed at the moment by deleting and adding the Lexmark printer again.

  • Office 2010 Don't print blank lines when data fields are empty

How do you do this in office 2010?  Where do we go now?
This used to be under the Tools menu in previous versions:
On the Tools menu, click Mail Merge.
In the Mail Merge Helper dialog box, click Merge.
NOTE: You must select the main document and data source for the merge before doing step 2.
In the Merge dialog box, under When Merging Records, click either:
Don't print blank lines when data fields are empty.
    -or-
Print blank lines when data fields are empty.
Click Close in the Merge dialog box, and then click
Close in the Mail Merge Helper.
NOTE: If you made no changes in the Merge dialog box, the
Close button is not available. Click Cancel instead.

  • Fonts don't print with Font Book

    Hi,
Fonts I load in Font Book are looking fine on screen but they don't print - I have to put them directly in the Fonts folder (in the System folder) to do so. My printer is a Lexmark E120n is that matters.
What should I do to get them to print using Font Book?
    Thanks for your help!

It turns out the problem was with that certain printer. The floor model and other models and makes works fine. the Brother support person was an idiot, and would not think outside the box. Luckily the guys at Apple and Office Depot did.

  • Printing slides (chalkboard them) some object don't print

I am trying to print out my presentation.
    I chose the chalkboard theme.
White lines and shapes do not print on the presentation.
(I chose not to print background when printing)
I have white lines with arrows that don't print.  (White text does though)
I have filled circles (Without outlines) that don't print either.
Kinda frustrating, can't figure out what to do.

    I disagree.
Text is a different entity compared to shapes, text  has a particular set of compared attributes, shapes have a different set of attributes.
    Why not white lines?
I do not know. A tick box in the print dialogue to print objects as black when the background is not printed would be good idea but that option is not available.
No matter what color the Object (A cicle in this case) it does not print.
    Yes same here.

  • Tarantella native client don`t printing with printer usb

tarantella native client don`t printing with printer usb

agreed with Wai on upgrading. The first test should be outside of SGD . . . does UNIX print to that USB printer? If not then chances are Tarantella 3.30 will not. If you upgrade to 4.31 you will need to first upgrade to 3.42 then to 4.20 before upgrading to 4.31. Under 4.31 we support PDF printing from UNIX servers. With PDF printing you should have no problem printing to a USB printer.

  • Google map directions don't print with map , preview & final are blank

I recently allowed updates of Firefox and of apple/imac software. Since then, when I try to print out a Google map with driving directions, the map prints, but the driving directions are missing. I am able to see the driving directions on the monitor, but they just don't print out.
Nothing is wrong with my printer, so I know that is not the problem.

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth? Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?

  • "Visible, but no printing"

    Hey guys,
I'm new to this stuff and want to create a form in acrobat, that allows me to enter a password (being visible without stars) which is visible in the saved pdf, but not visible when being printed out.
Does anyone have any idea how to accomplish that?
    Thanks in advance.

Well, then you are actually in the wrong forum and should post in the Acrobat Scripting forum.
But since we're now in the process:
Go to the Advanced > Document Processing > Set Document Actions…
Find the "Document Will Save" and hit "Edit".
    Paste this script:
    var f = this.getField("myField");
    if (f.value) {
        f.display = display.noView;
    else {
            f.display = display.visible;
Where you substitute the "myField" with the name of your fake password field.
    Hit "Ok" and then "Ok".
Now save you document with a suffix _master.
When anything is typed into the password field, this field will be hidden when you save the document, so ALWAYS do a "Save as…"

  • My bullets don't print?

I'm working on a short document in InDesign that has a few bulleted lists, put there by using Type > Bulleted & Numbered Lists > Apply Bullets. They are customized a bit using a character style.
For some reason, when I print the document directly from InDesign, the bullets don't print – the text that goes with them does, it's just the actual bullet points that don't. If I export a PDF and print that, they're fine. I'd really like them to work out of InDesign, though.
I'm using OSX Lion and CS6. I've never had this problem before (and have used these bullets before). Anyone know what's up?

More than likely a printer issue -- ID doesn't really print all that well, and some printers seem to be more of a problem than others.
You can try exporting to .idml, but I wouldn't hold your breath. See Remove minor corruption by exporting
