Visible lines in PDF files

I have noticed several times now, that I can see knockout lines in the PDF files from the textbox or objectbox which should not be there
As you can see in the below screendump taken from an AI file the objectbox line goes through the placed text and this is visible in the PDF file

They are commonly referred to as Stitching Lines and are a display artifact resulting from Transparency Flattening. The most accurate way to determine is to zoom in, up to 4000%. You should notice that they do not scale as you zoom.
The design incorporates transparency in the Genie mirror image, and this frame overlaps the type on a path. When Exporting, Saving or Writing to PDF using any setting that does not preserve Live Transparency any objects interacting with transparent objects are affected.
Common ways to eliminate the effect include creating seperate, higher layers for Type (and as many layers as neccesary). Objects on unique layers are not affected during the flattening process.
The more current and arguably better practice is utilize PDF settings which Preserve Live Transparency. (Current RIP's have suitable management for Live Transparency). PDF X/1a is not appropriate.
You could fiddle with Acrobats Display preferences to minimize the Stitching, but it is a trade-off to other display options; Smooth Fine Lines, Aliasing, etc.
Stitching Lines, commonly and rightfully, cause concern in display, and may apppear using low resolution output devices but do not print on high end commercial workflows.
Google Stitching Lines - read up especially at InDesignSecrets.com; this is a cross-program commonality; the fixes apply.

    2. Marks and Bleed - none (i mean all off)
    3. Output - mode: Separations (host-based), and rest like is: emulsion: Up, Image: Positive, Printer Resolution: 71lpi/600dpi
    4. Graphic - none
    5. Color Managment - none
    6. Advanced - none
    7. Summary - none
After printing I have a separation, pdf file. Always appears vertical and horizontal thin white lines, like document was preparing for website and sliced.
Why this happend? Can I use some settings to avoid this situation? I tried a various setting but the lines always appears.. Help!

  • Data visibility problem in PDF file generated from R/3 system

    Hi all,
We are converting the output of a Smartform into a PDF format. From this smart from, we receive data in OTF format, after which the required data is converted from OTF format to PDF format. Then PDF data is sent through mail using FM SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1 as an attachment.
For the above mentioned Smartform, we have defined Paragraph & Character font type as 'TIMES' in smart style. But when we receive the PDF file (through mail), some data of appears in other fonts:
    1) When PDF file is generated from Development system, the different font types which are used by PDF are Arial and Times-Roman. In this case, we are able to see the PDF output and faced no major problems because both of these fonts are supported by PDF file format.
    2) When PDF file is generated from Testing system, the font types which is used by PDF is Arial. In this case, we are able to see the PDF output because this font is supported by PDF file format.
    3) When PDF file is generated from Production system, the different font types which are used by PDF are Arial, Times-Roman and PBRS. Here, we are able to see the data which is displayed in Arial font and Times-Roman font. But we are not able to see the data which is displayed in PBRS font because this type of font is not supported by PDF file format. If we copy the distorted text from PDF file and paste it in MS-Word then the required data is clearly visible and that is due to the reason that MS-Word supports PBRS font.
But as per smart style we have used only 'TIMES' font, then why different fonts are appearing in PDF file?
What settings are required to be done to make this data visible?
Any pointer to solve this issue will be really appreciable. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Thin lines in pdf file displayed on mac

    Hi,
I don't know if this is the right place to bring this up.  So redirection elsewhere is appreciated!
I've noticed a problem with displaying certain pdf files on a mac.  The files are 2D filled plots produced by the free scientific software Yorick (http://yorick.sourceforge.net/).  It happens when I view it in Preview or Powerpoint on a mac.  But not if I use a pdf viewer on a unix system.  The yorick source code for a simple example is below.  I can't find a way to attach files to this messages or I'd include the pdf's.  Is there a way to do this?
Both png's are fine, and the pdf of the pli plot is fine.  pli assumes uniform grid spacing, is fast, and must use different graphics primitives than plf, which does not assume uniform grids (i.e. you can have non-square elements).  In this case both x and y grids really are uniform.  The problem is with the pdf of the plf plot.  Look at it in Preview, you should see some thin lines.  Put it in powerpoint and the same.  If you put some solid colored box in back of it, you'll see the color.  So the lines are transparent or something.
David Munro, the creator of Yorick, suggests it's an issue with anti-aliasing.
Anyway, the problem isn't that severe in this example, but in others (which don't have simple source code) it's more annoying.
Either way, any advice on this, or the right people to report this to, is appreciated.
    Cheers,
    David

As I suspected, the problem is that the other viewers are not savvy enough to handle the "stitching problem".
What looks like a single image is really a WHOLE LOT of single squares.  I took a snapshot of the Edit Object tool in Acrobat with all the objects selected.  See <https://photos-3.dropbox.com/i/o/R6asqv64sEP1Tf7eIEBfNbFbMw0F7qKEaFwfnXQVKLo/1644474/12950 96400/0fa9181>.
As you can see from that, each square is a separate image that needs to be rendered and if the viewer doesn't understand how to proper stitch the pieces together then you will get empty pixels (which appears as white lines).
Either contact the author of the program that authored the document and see about getting that fixed (if it's not you) and/or contact the other viewers about improving their products.

  • Numbered lines in pdf file

Converted Word file with numbered lines to pdf, but the numbers themselves did not convert. How do I add numbers to pdf lines?

Closely evaluate the authoring file's configuration. If an "auto-number" style prefix was used you may want to look that over. Regardless, with a correct configuration the numbers would be part of the content that goes to the PDF.
    Be well...

  • Data not visible properly in PDF file

    Hi all,
I am getting some data from a Smartform which is being converted into PDF. This PDF is sent in a mail to a team. Some of the PDF data is appearing differently for different users (say, for one the data is appearing as bold italics instead of normal font, for others some small-small boxes are appearing instead of the required data). So, please tell me what setting is missed out here?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Dheeraj,
    1. Make sure that you checked the check box "SMART FORM COMPATIBLE INTERFACE"
(Present in the properties of the interface) in the interface which you are using for the PDF Form.
    2. The 5 basic steps involved are u2013
        a. Data retrieval in the report programme.
        b. CALL FUNCTION u2018FP_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAMEu2019  (to get the generated function module name)
        c. CALL FUNCTION u2018FP_JOB_OPENu2019
        d. CALL FUNCTION <generated function module name>.
        f. CALL FUNCTION u2018FP_JOB_CLOSEu2019.
Uncheck the following parameters in the Generated Function Module.

  • Fine lines all over the picture after converting PDF file to Photoshop CC.

I converted a PDF-file (PDF/X-1a) into a Photoshop file using Photoshop CC and got fine lines over the picture.
Using Photoshop CS5, those lines will not appear.
    Why?

A little mor information. There are no tiles visible in the PDF file from InDesign CC. They appear after converting to Photoshop CC. The PDF file was a PDF/X-1a:2001. Now I wrote a PDF/X-4:2008 in Indesign CC and there are nor mor tiles but horizontal lines already in the PDF. Converted to Photoshop CC, this lines are still visible:
but they are vanished, if I use Photoshop CS5 for converting:

  • IBooks not displaying PDF files properly. Help!!

Most PDF files open fine in iBooks on my new iPad 3. However, some show up with blank pages. Sometimes the first couple of pages are visible but at a very poor resolution so that the file is unreadable and then the rest of the pages are blank. Sometimes the whole file is blank. These are mostly PDFs of academic articles that I downloaded from JSTOR. Can someone please help with this?
I've looked online and found people reporting a similar problem 2 years ago. I this really something that Apple can't solve? Should I buy goodreader? I know it is only 5  euros but I don't want to fork out money if it is going to have the same problem.
Saving the ,PDFs again on my desktop, which is the solution suggested 2 years ago on the online forum I found seems a rather awkward solution for what must be a simple problem.
Is there another solution. Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks

Without finding a PDF that I can download and try, I would recommend giving up on iBooks. Download Adode Reader if it is availble in your app store. It is free as well. I find it to work better with PDF files than iBooks.
I cannot read pdfs that have fillable form fields in PDF files in iBooks, but the fillable form fields are visible in the PDF files if I open them in Adobe reader.

  • Thin Horizontal Lines visible within PDF file after OCR run

I print to PDF(Acrobat 9.1 Pro), from an imaging application where the images are stored and managed as 300dpi TIFF(Group 4) B&W.
The PDF file is produced with no issues.  At this time I run the OCR process to capture the type written data.  As the OCR process works it's way throught the file, the PDF is re-written with both OCR data and thin black horizontal lines every 2/3 of a inch down the page.
These lines will be saved with the file and print out.
How do I eliminate these lines?

I had this problem too.  I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.4 and after OCRing a doc it had horizontal lines running across the page.  We were able to fix it by first Optimizing the document and then OCRing it.
    Document > Optimize Scanned PDF
When finished, Document > OCR Text Recognition > Recognize text using OCR
    Hope this helps

  • White Lines Across Powerpoint files converted to PDF

I have a number of PDF files that were created from Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on a Windows PC. The Preview inspector says they were created with Acrobat Distiller 8.2.2. Until recently, these PDFs looked 100% correct when viewed in Preview or Safari. Now, though, they have horizontal white lines across the pages. There are 6 white lines on each page, evenly spaced, each about 1 pixel in height. They stay at 1 pixel in height even when I zoom in/out on the document. At some zoom levels (100% being one of them), the area above and below some lines will become misaligned. When viewed with Adobe Reader 9, the lines are not there but the misalignment is (though it is not exactly the same as in Preview). Unfortunately, I can't say when this started happening other than it was fine in September (2010) and isn't this afternoon (Nov 22, 2010). It happens on a coworker's Macbook Pro as well as my iMac so it is not something unique to my Mac.
Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas as to how to fix it?

Hi, I am having this problem also on my iMac. Some of the images have the lines and some of them don't. When the PDFs are printed, the lines don't show. My problem is that these PDFs will be linked to on a website for the clients to print, and they will seem them with the lines. They are pretty unsightly, and my boss has put this into my lap to figure out, since I am the designer. Did you ever find an answer for this? I don't know where else to turn, since this company is insisting on using Pages, rather than something like InDesign.

  • How can I open a PDF file and enter a word in the Find field from the command line?

    Hi,
I want to use a PDF file as the help file of another program.
I have found somewhere an incomplete description of the command line parameters of Acrobat Reader.
It described how to open a file and jump to its given page.
I have written the following batch file based on that.
rem Open pdf (prm1) with Acrobat reader at given page (prm2)
    "%adobe_rdr%\AcroRd32.exe" /N "zoom=73&page=%2=OpenActions" %1
The following batch file opens the search dialog:
rem Open pdf (prm1) with Acrobat reader
rem and search for something (prm2)
    "%adobe_rdr%\AcroRd32.exe" /N "zoom=73&navpanes=1=OpenActions&search=%2" %1
I need the simple find field instead of the complicated search window.

  • Can I combine two pdf files by using command lines?

    Hi
I always need to combine two pdf files into one in my regular work
Currently, I open one of them, press ctrl+shift+I,
find another file and double click it.
It works but not so efficient since I need to do
    this procedure many times everyday
So I'm looking for a better solution
    Something like command lines,
    for example:
    acrobat.exe "combine" "doc1.pdf" "doc2.pdf"
Does acrobat have these functions or not?

  • When printing an AutoCAD-exported PDF file, the paper version has lines that screen does not show

    Hello,
We were contacted by our customer, a landscape architectural company that uses our product, M-Color, (http://m-color.com) to plot AutoCAD drawings with required preferences and effects.
However, they provided us with a sample PDF files, that contain examples of scanned drawings, that have some "ghost lines" at the drawings that the screen does not show.
We tracked the issue and it appears to be an issue with Adobe Reader pringing. We tried many versions from 8.0 version onwards to the latest versions available in public, all represent the same issue.
This may be an issue of the original drawing having some line that was not marked ending at some point.
The zip file within the link below has three PDF files, two from the company that brought this issue to our awareness and the one with name "scanstation" is printed by me, and then scanned with markings to explain the issue.
Any ideas what would be the best solution to solve this issue?
