Visible url's over links in messages

In I-mail messages I am getting more and more annoyed by the url's of links that show up. I get a yellow coloured rectangle with sometimes extreme long url's that show when I move the mouse over text with embedded links.
Is there someway to turn this off? It used to occur on a PC I had, but there was some way to disable it.
For instance I get a daily newsletter from my newspaper that shows headlines and links to the site that lead me to the article in question on their site. That's fine but I don't want the yellow rectangle covering the text.
I posted the question on the Dutch Macworld forum where I was able to post an example:
http://macwereld.nl/index.php?option=commwforum&task=showpost&postid=66520#66520
It shows what I mean. It is, I suppose it is the "title attribute" that gets shown when I hover te mouse over the link.
Thanx

Hallo Bonneveu,
I posted the question on the Dutch Macworld forum where I was able to post an example:

  • IOS messages strips URL content from linked text sent from Messages Beta

My guess is that this is an unexpected edge case in the iOS version of Messages, where pre-Messages beta it didn't have to worry about link embedded in text. But when I copy a URL from an application such as Reeder or drag and drop a URL from the Safari URL field into Messages in pastes in with underlined text of the title of the page the link is for, with the embeded link. When this link is recieved on iOS devices just the text of the page title is recieved, rendered without the embeded link. Which let me tell you left my wife wondering what I was trying to say to her more than once. Maybe this will is already resolved in a version of Messages yet to be released for iOS devices.

Ralph, yes, I am not denying if you highlight the url and copy and paste it into the text field in messages, you definitely get the full url, and iOS handles this case properly as it recognizes the URL.
But if you click and hold on the favicon and drag away you get Blue text underlined like it was a clickable link, which it is. I did verify Firefox behaves the same way if you drag from the favicon.
If you send the link like that (embeded url) and the reciever is Messages beta on another Mac, or over AIM, likely Gtalk (jabber) as well it is handled properly as a clickable link. If the reciver is on an iOS device, iOS does not handle this properly and strips the embeded url in the link.
    Below are images that illustrate
Underlined in Red is the ghosted grab from the favicon, built in screen capture unable to grab my mouse pointer but it ends up over "messages" in the ghosted title with the green "+" indicator.
Apologize for the size of this one, but that dragged URL dropped in a new message.
How this message shows up on iOS devices.
I know the workaround of copy and pasting the highlighted URL from the Safari URL field, but not all apps have this option, as I indicated Reeder for one when you are viewing an article there is a toolpar item to access several options for the article, one of them being copy URL - this must use the same method as Dragging and dropping from the Safari faviocn. Also many links that you bring up the contextual menu on in Safari and copy url end up pasting as embeded url links (Firefox does not do this). The workaround extends the workflow to open the article from a news feed in a browser, or click and load a link in Safari before the URL is exposed in the URL field before copy and pasting the url into messages, not very user friendly.
I hope this helps clarify the case.

  • Is there a way to select MULTIPLE tabs and then copy ALL of the the URLs and titles/or URLs+titles+HTML links? This can be done with the Multiple Tab Handler add on; However, I prefer to use a Firefox feature rather than download an add on. Thanks.

Currently, I can copy ONE tab's url and nothing else (not its name). Or I can bookmark all tabs that are open. However, I'd like to have the ability to select multiple tabs and then copy ALL of the the URLs AND their titles/or copy ALL of the URLs+titles+HTML links? This can be done with the Multiple Tab Handler add on; when I download the add on, I get a message saying that using the add on will disable Firefox's tab features. I prefer to use Firefox features rather than download and use an add on. Is there a way to do this without an add on?

    Hi LRagsdale517,
You should definitely be able to upload multiple files by Shift-clicking or Ctrl-clicking the files you want to upload. Just to make sure you don't have an old version of the service cached, please clear the browser cache and then log in to https://cloud.acrobat.com/files. After clicking the File Upload icon in the upper-right corner, you should be able so select multiple files for upload.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • How can I see the url of a link before clicking on it?

Hi. I have Firefox 10.0.2. I used to be able to see the url of a link on web pages in the bottom left of the browser. That way, if I the url didn't seem legit I wouldn't click on the link. But now, when I put the mouse over a link, nothing comes up. How can I see the link addresses again? Thanks.

The Status Bar. where the link previously showed on mouse hover, has been replaced by the Add-on Bar. You can install the following add-on to get some of the former Status Bar functions back. The Add-on Bar must be turned on. The add-on will also stop the showing of the "tooltip" type status loading text, and will, instead, show it in the Add-on Bar:
    *See --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-happened-status-bar
*To turn on the Add-on Bar, see --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Back%20and%20forward%20or%20other%20toolbar%20items%20are%20missing#w_showing-the-navigation-toolbar '''and click on "Add-on Bar" to check it'''
    *Add -on '''''Status-4-Evar''''': https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
*If necessary, after install and restart:
**Open Customze window (Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout '''''OR''''' View > Toolbars > Customize '''''OR''''' ALT+V+T+C '''''OR'''''right-click in the empty space at the end of the Tab Bar and choose Customize)
**'''While Customize window is open''', drag any or all of the following from the Customize window to the Add-on Bar in the order and position you want them to appear. Then click "Done" button at lower right on the Customize window.
***"Status Text" ('''''link on mouse hover or during page loading''''' or "Done" when page is loaded)
***"Progress Meter" (progress bar of page loading)
    ***"Download Status" (status of download)

  • Can I get rid of the underlined hyperlink and just have roll-over links?

In iWeb 2009, can I get rid of the underlined hyperlink and just have roll-over links?

You have to put them on the server where you are publishing your site to. Where are you hosting your site? If it's a MobileMe account then you have two options:
1 - put the photos in a folder, name it "Pics" and put that folder in your iDisk/Pictures folder. Then use the following URL: http://homepage.mac.com/YourMMe_Account_Name/.Pictures/Pic/FileName (don't forget the period before Pictures).
2 - put the "Pics" folder with image files in your iDisk/Web/Sites folder and use the following URL: http://web.me.com/YourMMe_Account_Name/FileName.
If you're hosting on a 3rd party server it would depend on if you're using a domain name or not. I'm not familiar with 3rd party servers so Wyodor, Ethmoid or someone that is will need to point the way.

  • URL's displayed in email messages

Is there a setting to hide url addresses in email messages so they aren't displayed as the long html version? It is very cumbersome to read emails with links in them when the url for the link is displayed.
    Thanks

    Hey pjd22,
You may want to try and enable HTML email as shown here http://bbry.lv/9sQbKt, it may make reading the emails a bit easier as there is no setting to remove URL's from emails.

  • I get a "locate link browser" message after updating Avast

Firefox is my browser of choice. I recently updated my Avast! antivirus. In the process, it automatically installed Google Chrome. I promptly uninstalled Chrome. Since then, from Outlook 2003, clicking on a link results in a "locate link browser" message and Firefox does not open. In Windows XP, I have gone into folder options, file types and there is no URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol. Neither can I add it because it is not in the drop-down list. I run regedit to try to delete four files called for in various help sites, but none of them are there. What can I do now without setting Internet Explorer as my default browser?

Try to undo and redo Firefox as the default browser.
Make another browser like IE the default browser and then let Firefox do it again.

  • "Roll over" links

I want all my links to be black at all times except when I
roll over them, then I want them to be white,
I have changed "roll over" links to white in "page
properties", this works fine. But as soon as I change "visited
links" to a different color than standard the roll over links
    won´t turn white anymore.
Is there a way to fix this ??

That means your rules are in the wrong order. All other
    things being equal,
later rules override earlier rules. If you were specifying
    all four link
states, you would do them in this order:
    link
    visited
    hover
    active
If you're doing things via DW's tabs and not looking at the
    CSS code,
specify visited rules before specifying hover rules.
Have you worked directly with CSS at all? You need to find
    your a:visited
    code and move it.
    You need to put this:
    a:visited {
    [your rules]
    above this:
    a:hover {
    [your rules]
Be sure to cut and paste the entire rule, including the
    closing curly
    brackets.

  • Why does mail app show over 2,000 messages (not new) but only 10-12 in my inbox?

So I recenly got a new rMBP and have begun using the Mail app. I've had a bunch of problems with Gmail and the app but my my biggest gripe is that it seems to have downloaded over 2,000 messages from the server (of which I have no idea where its getting them because I've deleted pretty much everything in trying to solve this to the extent of completely wiping out my email folders). I wouldn't have such a problem with it except that it seems like its actually downloaded the 2,000+ messages onto my computer, no dobt taking up space (and its mildly annoying to me to always see 2,514 to the right of the "Gmail" folder in the left window)
I have tried emptying my mail completely including emptying the trash+deleting mail account from all apple devices and then restarting them before adding the mail account back.
Looking in random folders to make sure I haven't lost my marbles and theres a stash of emails lurking somewhere...
Again, deleting the accounts, powercycling the apple devices and then setting up mail again (just incase the first three times didn't work) and I'll mention that EVERY time I set up the account it imediately starts downloading the 2,000+ emails all over again (little windw shows up in bottom left counting down how many it has and how many there are left to go).
Any advise would be appreciated- I know its not huge but its driving me crazy!!
Just FYI I'm using the mail app simultaneously on a rMBP, iPad 4, and iPhone 5...

Go to Gmail (on the web) look in the folder named All Mail, they will be there, delete what you want.

  • Loaded data is not yet visible in Reporting (see long text) Message no. RSM

    Hi All,
I have one issue in BI part of Solman. For one of the scenario of Solution Manager uses its own BI component (BI_CONT 7.03 SP08 SAP_BW 700 SP15).
There is one background job which has to update the data in one of the infocube 0SMD_PE2D. This job is getting failed for the past 2 months.
When i check the logs of that background job, it shows the long text as below.
Loaded data is not yet visible in Reporting (see long text)
    Message no. RSM1130
    Diagnosis
There is an inconsistency between the load status of the data and the option of reporting on this data.
There is data in the InfoProvider that is OK from a quality point of view, but is not yet displayed in reporting.
The problem, for example, is to do with request 0000000494, number APO_R4CEHVODV7XS7MRL741GSMV9UB.
    Procedure
Choose Refresh to remove the inconsistency.
I went to RSA1 and selected that cube and choose "Execution changes - Manage". On the right hand side under request tab page it shows all the requests with request status as Green.  In Monitor there is No Data Available
I found a similar thread [Loaded data is not yet visible in Reporting for Data Mart destination cub; unfortunately solution is not updated.
    Could any one help me
    regards
    Naveen

System error in program SAPLRS_EXCEPTION and form RS_EXCEPTION_TO_MESSAGE
Source system is Solution Manager only, production client and BI by default its running in 001 client. We dont have any APO system in our landscape.

It changes from comic sans 24 to heltvekia 12!!!! What the heck is going on??????
Thanks for any help you can shed on this problem.
      BBC1050

I also upgraded to Lion and do have font problems in Mail. Just in some mails, including my own signature.

  • Why is there No visible URL anymore in my firefox browser window?

Sorry if I am being an idiot but the look of my browser window has changed and there is no longer a visible URL for any website i click on when using google as a search engine.
This is what used to happen: 1.Open firefox, 2. a google searchbox would appear in middle of window, 3.type something there, search , 4.click on a chosen site...and it's URl would appear in the window at the top of the page. Then if I wanted to share this I could just copy and paste!
Now, when i do steps 1-4 above i don't get a visible URL at the top of the page. Instead in it's place is a bar with a google symbol to it's left and nothing in it ????
Why is the URL not visible any more ...is there another way I can find it/see it /display it?
Thsi is something that has changed only in the past couple of weeks ...and I don't think i have upgraded it recently ...is this why ?
    thanks for your help

    Hi Cor-el
thanks for your hlelp! i omitted to say that i am a Mac use and so don't have an f10 key ;-( ...and so some of the other instructions don't work either!
I have tried some of the other suggestions( like looking in customize tool bars) ..and I don't think that something has gone missing. I think firefox may have changed the look of the window?!
I have attached a screen grab below...to help explain...
See the long window at the top that has google written on left hand side ?! This is where the url used to be displayed.
I have discovered that when you are on a page if you click on the icon on the left hand side of the little window/bar...that is to the left of the long one ...and then click more info you can see the page details in a pop up window ( as per the screen grab) . However only the site details can be copied ...and not the individual page URL ...although this appears at the top of the pop up!
I also noticed I do not have latest version of firefox running ...so will remedy that
and maybe that will sort it ...what do you think?
If I do the same thing but use safari as a browser i don't get the same problem ...and the complete URL for the actual page is displayed !
    thanks

  • FrameMaker 9 - URL's not linked and/or not updated in .pdf output

I'm editing (or trying to) a .book that someone else (former tech writer at work) created.  I can find the URL references (markers) and have updated them and/or updated the commands in them as best I can tell.  (As best I can tell meaning that I see them saying that they are linked to the right address.  We now require https: where we previously support http: access to a certain site, so I'm having to update all of the links that would go to that site that are included in the document that I'm trying to update)
The problem is multiple, as in I'm working on 2 different documents.  In one of them it would appear that most of the links are just gone.  Where I edited the marker to go to the right site there is no longer a link to the site at all.. just the text that shows the site name that was there as a hotlink before :-(
In the second document I'm having a similar issue, the hotlink that should be going to the site I want to reference is just gone.  The text that should be a hotlink to the site is there, it's underlined as it was before, but the hotlink is gone... just the text remains with no hotlink in the .pdf file that is created when I print the book to .pdf
The other issue is that I updated the markers in the headers/footers to go to the https: address and yet the links that are there in the headers/footers are showing http: and that is where the hotlinks are trying to get to.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer on what I may be doing wrong or how to correct the issue.
    Thanks!

    Barry,
It could be that whomever was creating the documents before simply relied on Acrobat's ability to convert URLs to active links dynamically, instead of inserting the actual hypertext markers on the FM end of things. In that case, you will have to add the markers manually.
There also may be a conflict between what Acrobat is automatically trying to interpret as a link and what you have defined by the marker to be the link. FM uses the formatting range that the marker is inserted into to delimit the "hot" zone for the link. So if the marker is inserted outside of a formatting change (i.e. not blue and underlined), then you may end up with two links in Acrobat.

  • HT2499 I inserted a brand new DVD and it quit half way through and gave me the "skipping over damaged area" message.

I got this laptop refurbished from Apple in July. It was originally released in October 2011. I have watched DVD's on it previously, but lately, in the past 3 weeks, it's been pooping up the "skipping over damaged area" message. I put in a brand new DVD and half way through, it did it again, and I can't get past it. Any thoughts on what the problem may be?

You can just open Terminal (in Utilities) and run the rm command (make sure you type it exactly) and then reboot.  With /.AppleSetupDone gone the system will think it is the the second part of an installation, i.e., after it installs and reboots and starts the Setup Assistant.  You will see the Welcome and music all over again and then you can go through the setup prompts again, this time specifying a password.
