Trying to install Visio 2010 add-in for rack server virtualization - fails
I am running Visio 2010 Professional 32-bit. I am running it on a Windows 7 Enterprise machine, 64 bit. I am trying to install the Visio 2010 Add-In for Rack Server Virtualization. When running the installer I get the following message:
"Setup cannot continue because Visio Add-In for Rack Server Virtualization requires that Visio 2010 Professional or greater be installed. Please install Visio and run setup again."
I downloaded the add in from here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26233
I have Visio 2010 Professional installed. What now?Hi,
I have reproduce in Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 64-bit, Visio 2010 Premium 32-bit, it work fine.
If you did not install Windows 7 SP1, you can download service pack visit following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976932
Make user you have administrator permission, and you can try to run this program as compatibility mode test if it work.
If you install this Add-in directly after install Visio 2010, it recommended restart computer and then install Add-in.

Greetings
I use Visio 2010 in windows 7 64bit
and I have this problem:
whenever I try to save a diagram to JPEG (save as>JPEG) and then close Visio using the X button on the upper right corner, then Visio hangs.
The jpeg pic is saved ok, but Visio hangs permanently: I have to close it using task manager.
On the other hand, if after I save into jpeg, I press whatever other button in Visio (from ribbon) then it works ok, and afterwards I can close Visio with the X button
- but, if I try to close Visio with the X button right after saving to JPEG, Visio will surely hang.
Thank you
PS. Visio 2010 is fully updated (File>Help reports:
Visio 2010 Premium (v14.0.6111.5000) SP1 MSO (14.0.6112.5000) 32bit)Update:
The problem reappeared/wasn't completely solved:
So, I also went to Control Panel>add/remove programs, rightclick on Adobe Acrobat X> change installation and untick the PDFMaker item, in order to uninstall it:
that's because initially, even after I had unticked "PDFMaker for Visio AddIn" in COM Add-Ins,
in File>Options>Add-Ins tab, on the Active Application Add-Ins part (yes, on ACTIVE Add-Ins)
I was still seeing about 5-6 lines, all having items containing PDFMaker for Visio AddIn" [PDFMVisio.vsl].
In other words, the PDFMVisio.vsl file was loaded even if unticked!!
Then, after uninstalling the add-in, the problem was finally fixed at last!
Thank you so much for this additional information! I was having the same problem. I did what you instructed, and the problem has now disappeared! -
I installed Visio 2010 premium on my laptop (win8.1). When I try to activate, I receive a message which says my product key is illegal. I do have a legal license and it was already installed on another computer with Win7 on it, without any errors.
Hi,
Please see the "Office Product Key Card FAQ", I copy the question here:
How many licenses /installations do Office Product Key Cards allow?
Each Product Key Card allows one user to activate one Office 2010 suite on one preloaded PC.
If you want to transfer the Visio 2010 premium to a new PC, you'd better uninstall it from preloaded PC, and reinstall it. Then, we can connect the Microsoft Product Activation Center to activate it.

VISIO 2010 Default File Associations
PROBLEM:
Visio 2010 is not set as the default program for opening the .vsd file type. I tried to set the default file associations to Visio 2010, but it doesn't show up in the list of default programs.
BACKGROUND:
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I had Visio Professional 2003 installed, and more recently, Visio viewer for more viewing newer file types. I uninstalled both programs and then installed Visio Professional 2010.
ATTEMPTED (BUT FAILED) REPAIRS:
I have repaired the installation twice, but Visio still does not show up in the default programs list and is still not set as the default association for .vsd files. At this point, the only way to open files is to first open Visio and then open the
file from within visio. It's irritating! Please help.HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\VISIO.EXE\shell\open\command
verify the Default file path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\VISIO.EXE" "%1"

Visio 2010 Std installation problem on Windows 8.1
Visio 2010 Standard fails to install on a new Windows 8.1 Dell XPS 12 system. It goes through the installation, seems to complete, but at the last moment, the progress bar goes back half way and then an error message appears: Vision encountered a problem
during installation.
That same CD installed OK on a previous Win 8.1 machine that I had to clean and return.
Any idea?

Visio 2010 Link a Stencil to Telnet
Good morning everyone,
I have been searching Google for two days now on how to link a Visio 2010 Stencil to Telnet so that when you hold control and click the stencil it brings you to the telnet login prompt for that router or switch.
I went to insert hyperlink, then chose local file, and linked to telnet.exe for starters. When I ctrl+click on a stencil I get a security warning asking if I want to continue; I clicked yes, but nothing happened. For kicks, I even tried clicking No and
still nothing happens.
I then tried creating a shortcut to telnet and pointing the hyperlink to that local file with no luck.
Lastly I wrote a .bat file and tried to get the .bat file to launch telnet to my router/switch, and that works if I directly open the .bat file but does not link from Visio.
Does anyone know how I can simply make Visio 2010 so that I can click on the stencil and it auto opens telnet prompt allowing me to login to that device?
Thank youThe technique the example uses requires modifications to the shape (thus making them unique on the page) and the code then calls an executable that accepts command line options and enters the appropriated operands to the call (ip address, port, etc.).
This is the 'easy' way to accomplish calling the telnet session. Be aware that as of Win7 calling command line executables via a browser was modified to make it more difficult.

Visio 2010 Stardard install error on Windows 8.1 with Office Pro 2013 already installed
Both Visio and Office are 64bit. Visio gives "The language of this installation package is not supported by your system". Tried the LIS "CacheOnly" suggested on a few sites. Causes Installer boot segment fault. Any ideas? Suppose we have
to uninstall Office, install Visio, re-install office? Afraid that will jack up my activations count. Assuming the issue is newer Office is causing the problem.Hi,
For the error message, the issue may be caused by some reasons.
The Visio 2010 installation source was damaged.
The installation source for the language pack did not contain all the necessary files.
Please try the following methods:
1.Change an installation source.(Click
here to re-download)
2.Extract all sv-se files necessary for the language pack installation and installed the language pack successfully.
3.Unzip the installation source and double-click the setup.exe to install.
If we had tried the all above methods, we need to try that uninstall Office, install Visio, re-install office. It’s important to always install earlier versions of Office first.

Error when combining Visio 2010 files in Acrobat X Pro
Getting the error message No PDF was created because Acrobat encountered an unidentified error when i try to combine Visio 2010 files into one PDF with Acrobat X Pro. Ive done this many many times before and it worked fine. It also works fine on another PC in the office with the same software installed on it. It just decided one day to quit working. Ive tried to reinstall both programs without success. I dont have this issue with any other type of file just Visio 2010 files. I can go into Visio and convert the file there and then combine it with other files after it has been converted as a seperate PDF file, but that is alot more cumbersome than just drag drop and combine. How can I fix this?
Did you updates X or have 10.0.0? The updates are required for use with OFFICE 2010.

Visio 2010 EMF in word 2007 fonts distorted in PDF
Hello Participants,
I am experiencing an issue with some Visio images not rendering correctly in my PDF. I created the images in Visio 2010 and saved as EMF. Then I inserted them into my Word 2007 document and generated a PDF.
One of my images renders great, the other one has some font distortion going on. Can anyone point me to some settings that could resolve this issue?
Thanks so much for your help on this matter.
Z.My two bits for what they are worth. I used AA9 for the conversion. When I printed to the Adobe PDF printer, the text came out crisp. When I used PDF Maker, I got the same poor fonts view I think you refer too. However, I think it in part goes back to the graphic you used. When I look at the page in WORD 2007, the fonts do not look that good either.
I did observe that it may be the scaling you have done in WORD -- a typical problem with the view of bitmaps. The size of the 1st one is 51% and the 2nd one is 59%. If you can scale the figures in VISIO so that they will be 100% in WORD that may help. What is strange is that printing to the Adobe PDF printer gave a nice result. So it appears to be related to a PDFMaker issue.
An additional factor is that Adobe PDF printer seemed to retain the information as a vector graphic (you can select the individual parts) and yet PDF Maker seemed to convert the graphic to a bitmap. How much of that is Acrobat and how much is MS screwing thing up I do not know (I only say this from past experience with graphics in WORD 2007 that was not a problem with WORD 2003).
As a last resort, I exported the graphics to an EMF and imported into Adobe Illustrator. I think clipped each one into a new WORD file as EMF files (Paste Special) and then ran PDF Maker. This time they came out fine. I think a good part of the problem is how the VISIO files are importing to WORD. That has long been a problem. I my opinion, MS bought VISIO and messed up a great product, causing problems like this.
Maybe some of my comments will help the Adobe team to trace the issue. I know that VISIO files embedded in WORD have long been problems. I do not have a best work flow when using VISIO, but clipping from VISIO does not seem to work well. I hope that some of may wandering analysis here is helpful. I have just been commenting as I have tried things. -
Problems creating a PDF from a large Visio (2010) document
Hello
Heres the setup, Windows 7, 64bit, Visio 2010 std, Adobe Acrobat X Standard, a 6.7mb .vsd file with a custom size of 6000 x 3000 mm that I want to convert to a pdf (not for printing)
Using File menu & save as in Visio converts to a pdf with great quality but cuts the page off, I've spent all day reading about the 200" issue and thats exactly where the cut off is.
Using right click on the .vsd file in explorer and convert to pdf opens the correct page size in the pdf but the drawing is screwed up, lines moved about, missing stuff etc.
I dont know
a) Why there is a difference between the 2 ways of creating the pdf
b) how to have my cake and eat it! Good quality and right size page
Unfortunately I cannot use any third party apps, am I screwed?
Thank you everyone for looking and maybe even offering advice
Cheers
StuI looked at every setting as I had the same problem. This is what I found resolved the issue:
1. Open Adobe Acrobat Reader and go to Edit/Preferences and change the pixel/inch ratio back to the standard.
2. In Visio, go to Design tab, Size, and then More Page Sizes, and change the page size to Custom (your needed size.) (This opens Page Setup.)
3. The printer paper size I could not change, but it didn't affect it.
The first option is what took me an hour to figure out. Hope this helps save people time. -
Linking data from Excel 2007to Visio 2010
Hi Visio Experts,
I have a Visio diagram a warehouse. The diagram shows the area of the warehouse where there are shelves and within each shelf is stored a certain product and the number of items. I am trying to link the data from an Excel spreadsheet which
has three columns, which are the shelf number, the product, and the quantity. I have used the tutorials to link, but it does not refresh the data when the source information changes, which is very frustrating. Also, since the data is relatively large (100
rows) is there a way of linking to the right drawing box without manually dragging to each box?
Please make yours suggestions into really clear steps to help me with this problem.
Thank you,
Visio RookieHi,
You can have some changes appear either manually or automatically in the Visio drawing when making changes to the data source.
First you have linked data to a Visio drawing, there is a live connection between the two files. After making changes to Excel spreadsheet, switch to Visio 2010, then click Data > Refresh All. As an alternative, you can also right-click in the External
Data window and click Refresh Data.
I follow these steps mentioned in this article, and it works fine.

Unable to edit .vsdx visio file that is inside a document library using visio 2010 sp2
I have Visio 2010 SP2 installed locally inside my machine. The current version can open vsdx files by doing some conversions. I got the following scenario inside my SharePoint server 2013:-
Currently I have Visio file (with .vsdx extension) uploaded to my SharePoint 2013 document library.
If I click on the Visio file I got the following dialog.
I select “Edit”, click on ok.
Then the visio 2010 application will convert the current file and open it locally inside my machine.
But the opened file will have it name as “Copy (1) of ….”, as follow:-
So if I do some changes to the Visio file and I click on save I will not be able to save my changes back to the SharePoint server’s document library. Now if I do the same steps for a .vsd file not .vsdx then I can directly open the Visio file (without any
conversion process) and I will be able to save my changes back to SharePoint server.
So can anyone advice how to be able to edit .vsdx files which are uploaded to SharePoint document library using visio 2010 SP2 ?
ThanksThank you for your ideas.
After that last posting, but before your response, I asked them to add the local farm to their trusted sites zone. Several blogs I had encountered while searching had listed that as something they had tried.
As soon as they added the site to their trusted site zone, the problems went away.
It was definitely not all users - I only had 2 people directly contact me about the issue.
I never got a chance to ask them about other SharePoint sites - they were working on the sites where they spent most of their time - I don't know if they had other sites.
The old location and the new location of these 2 sites are in the same site collection - it was moving them from
http://myfarm/sites/div/dept67/site1
to
http://myfarm/sites/div/dept64/site1
basically (with the actual names changed to protect my job).
The site collection is /sites/div . So the site collection features are the same.
I suppose that the site features could have changed between the export and the import - but since things are working now and I didn't change any features, I don't think that it is.
At this point, things appear to be working. However strange that seems to me. -
