Visio 2013 Default Line and Connector Styles

This question has been asked previously, but the answer is not sufficient. In the older versions of Visio, all you had to do was right-click and select the "set as default" option to set the default style for lines/connectors/shapes.
Where is this option for Visio 2013? No, I do not want to have to edit my custom template just to set a default style for lines/connectors/shapes. SETTING A DEFAULT SHOULD BE A BASIC FUNCTION.
Do I need to edit the themes? Because that option does not appear either. Do I need to create a custom theme? How does one do that?
Why should this be so difficult? It was a simple click-select before.

Hi,
According to my research, I tried to find the option “set as default”.
But I count find it both in Visio 2010 and Visio 2013.
I find that right-click each shapes>Add to my shapes>favorites.
So I think you can try to set default shapes to favorites.
Please check the following picture:
Now the mainstream software, including Office Flash Photoshop etc cancelled the option “set as default”.
They want users to customize their common tools or style.
Please refer to the following link:

I hope it's helps.

  • Default "paste and match style" + message list line separator

I'm loving Apples mail app ... nothing is perfect, though. Here are a couple minor annoyances, am I missing something?
    - Is it possible to make "paste and match style" the default, so I don't have to use menu bar or a four fingered short cut?
    - is it possible to separate the lines in the message list view by a thin line or, even better, alternating background shading, like it is done in the list view in Finder?
Not a big deal, but both of these features would be nice.
    Thank you,
    Stephan

I imagine there is an elegant way using the command line, however you can easily accomplish your first request via the System Preferences, Keyboard and Mouse Pane, Keyboard Shortcuts tab. See, http://www.macworld.com/article/50828/2006/05/cmdnrevert.html
For your second request, I imagine that this can be accomplished with Stationary in Mail.app 3.4, but I have never tried.

  • How to export/Import default prefs and object styles with no project open?

I would like to export my preferences and object styles with no projects open and them import them on my team's machines so that no matter what project we create, we all start from the SAME set of defaults.  When I open captivate and check both with no projects open, there is no ability to import/export.  I know I could open a project and export, but then importing is an issue.
    I'm using CP8 on a Windows 8.1 64 bit machine.
    Help?
    Thx.
    Lori

After a fresh install I start by editing the Preferences globally, that means by using Edit, Preferences before opening any project (like switching to Expert UI, default language, replacing feedback captions by shapes). There is indeed no way to import preferences from a specific file. I will do the same for some object styles (like creating a blank Highlight box for audio objects). You can only export/import from and to a project,  same like for all Library assets.
However the Object styles: they are part of the default theme, along with their theme colors, master slides and skin. You cannot edit everything without having a project open. I would recommend to create a custom theme in a project, in which you have all the wanted object styles. Changing the theme colors (you can have a custom theme color palette) will change partially colors of the objects. Once you set that theme as default theme, you'll have all the object styles in the projects that use the default theme.
To transfer Preferences, custom themes to another machine, maybe this article could help you out. It was written for a different purpose, but you'll find the location of a lot of files that you could transfer in this post:

  • Default paste and match style

Many times, when I'm pasting text, I find that I need to select "Paste and match style" from the menu bar. Is there a way to make "Paste and match style" the default?
System: Mac mini, late 2012, running OS X 10.10.1

Ok, I figured this out. Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts tab. Choose App Shortcuts in the left pane, then press the "+" button below the right pane.
    Applications: All Applications
Menu Title: Paste and Match Style
    Keyboard Shortcut: (your chosen shortcut)
Click the Add button and you now have your chosen keyboard shortcut instead of the uncomfortable shift+option+command+v.
I had no idea that the default keyboard shortcuts in the menu bar were that easy to change. Thank you, Apple!

  • How do I set a default title and text style on Quick?

On Adobe Premiere Essentials 13 video editing, if I use Quick is it possible to set a default style for titles and text? I see instructions for setting a default style in Expert, but that doesn't seem to work in Quick. Thanks.

    aperture14
What is this Premiere Elements Essentials 13? I know the program only as Adobe Premiere Elements 13 for Windows or Adobe Premiere Elements 13 for Mac. On what computer operating system is it running and is it a pre-installed program from the computer manufacturer?
So, if you have some modified version of Premiere Elements 13 Windows or Mac, I cannot give you a yes or no answer to
if I use Quick is it possible to set a default style for titles and text?
In Adobe Premiere Elements 13 Windows (assumed Mac also), there should be no problem in creating a text title in the Quick workspace and saving a particular text style and setting that created text style to the default. Are you OK with doing that in the Expert workspace if not the Quick workspace?
Please give us more details of your situation so that we can customize a reply for you.
    Thank you.

  • Reduced in resolution when converting from Visio to PDF in Visio 2013

I have a .NET application that converts Visio files to PDF using the Document.ExportAsFixedFormat method. This works fine in Visio 2010. However, upon upgrading to Visio 2013, the exact same code is producing PDF with much lower resolution that is unsuitable
for print. I am not sure what is wrong. Is there something I can do to export high resolution PDF with Visio 2013? Thanks!
    The following is my code:
    _app.ActiveDocument.ExportAsFixedFormat(VisFixedFormatTypes.visFixedFormatPDF, // Format
    pdfpath, // Output path
    VisDocExIntent.visDocExIntentPrint, // Output quality
    VisPrintOutRange.visPrintFromTo, // Range
    1, // Start page
    -1, // End page
    false, // Color as black
    true, // Include background
    false, // Include document properties
    false, // Indicate tag structure
    true, // Use ISO 19005-1 (PDF/A).
    System.Reflection.Missing.Value // FixedFormatExtClass

    Hi Eugene
I am using visFixedFormatPDF, visDocExIntentPrint, and visPrintAll, but there is no improvement in the resolution of the PDF.
The Type.Missing value can only be used for the last parameter. The other parameters require either bool or int, so I get compile errors if I try to use Type.Missing.
I also notice the reduction of resolution in Visio 2013 only applies to bitmap images copied into the Visio file. Lines and shapes drawn in Visio still looks fine. I am getting this problem even if I simply select the Save As menu option and select PDF,
so this problem could be independent of office.interop.
Is there something I can do to avoid the degradation of resolution of bitmaps in Visio 2013? Everything is fine in Visio 2010.

  • Visio 2013 Connector Styles

I'm trying to create a visio diagram and I'm running into an issue with Shape Styles for the connector tool.
Each time I create a new connector, it adds a arrow to the end, for my document this has to be removed.
I've formated the shape, saved it but the next time I click on the connector tool it turns back on shape styles.
I've edited the line options but this only applies to the selected line. How can I set the default for all connectors to never use an arrow?
The more office tries to 'atuomate' the more i miss the good older versions, I must be getting old.
Can someone point me on where to access the defaults?
    Rob

I've done as you suggested and the connectors are now being drawn without the arrows. Three points about this generally (feedback for the MS Visio product team):
    1. This is desperately counterintuitive. I should be able to change the line ending, in the Theme or Variant, under the "DESIGN" tab, and not have to go through this esoteric process.
    2. After removing the arrow from the style, as you suggested, the "Shape Styles" preview box on the "HOME" tab is still showing arrows on the end of the line, despite the fact that the connectors do not have them, when drawn with
    the amended style!?
    3. I'm with the Asshat opinion of Howard MArks, above.

  • How do I set default colors for XY chart series (lines and legend)

I am implementing a line chart and need to override the default (caspian style) colors for the line colors and the legend symbols. I'm not displaying the chart symbols themselves as that would make the chart look bad. I've been able to successfully set the default colors for the lines via the CSS below, but cannot find a way to do the same for the series symbols that appear in the chart legend. How do I do this? Thanks.

  • Connectors not jumping in Visio 2013

I can't find any information specific to Visio 2013 on this, so I am asking.
The only connector type that "jumps" seems to be the "dynamic" connector (misleading name as it's not dynamic at all).  Is it possible to get the other connectors to jump/arc over each other?
I've gone into the global settings, changed it to "straight", changed the arc size, and numorous things with no luck.

right-click page tab -> Page Setup -> Layout and Routing
and look at the Line Jumps section.
There's nothing Visio 2013 specific about this, it's stayed the same at least since Visio 200, just the way to get to it has changed from the File menu to the new ribbon GUI.

  • Visio 2013 opens my old VSD files fine - but they are blank and do not show content

    Hello,
I have downloaded a trial of Visio Pro 2013.  I opened an existing VSD file and when I open it, it is blank.  No error message or anything.  Shows it open but it's a blank screen.
It opens fine in previous version but blank in 2013.  Is there some default or layer that needs to be turned on?  Something that needs to be enabled?  Why can't I see the contents?
    Regards,
    Elizabeth

    Hi,
Visio 2013 has a dramatically different file format.
Method 1. Open the VSD file in Visio 2013 ,it’ll display in Compatibility Mode and use Compatibility checker to see if the file is normal. And I recommend you convert the VSD file to VSDX to test.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio-help/compatibility-between-different-versions-of-visio-HA102749766.aspx
Method 2. There is a setting in Visio 2013 in File > Options > Trust Centre > File Block Settings. Don’t tick “Visio 2003-2010 Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils”.
Method 3. Open Visio 2013 in safe mode, run visio.exe /safe. If it can open normally, disable some add-ins from File > Option >Add- Ins.
    Method 4. Clean Temp folder.
The temporary copy of the drawing file is named ~$$FileName.~vsd.

Method 5. Repair Visio 2013 from Control Panel > Program and Features.

  • Changing Default Line End Styles in FM8

Does anyone know how to change the default line end, line width, and color styles in FM8? Every time I open a document and draw a line or an arrow I have to adjust these three things to get what I need. I end up doing this several times a day and I'm wondering if there is a way to fix this. I've been told to look in the maker.ini file, but I can't find or don't know what I'm looking for to change. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, that's one of the properties that can't be changed in FM. If you do this a lot, you may want to investigate using FrameScript to configure the "defaults" that you prefer.

  • FIXED - Exchange 2013 - Can I Recreate Default Frontend Receive Connector SAFELY?

    Hi
I'm need of some urgent assistance please.
I had a fully functional Exchange 2013 server and decided to create a receive connector for a photocopier/scanner to included its static IP  port number 25.
I accidentally chose Hub Transport role and not FrontEndTransport role which appears to have messed up port 25 connectivity on mail coming in from the internet. When I stopped and restarted the Transport Service within services.msc I then got this error.
    Source: MSExchangeTransport
    Event ID: 1036
    Task Category: SmtpReceive
    Level: Error
Description: Inbound direct trust authentication failed for certificate %1. The source IP address of the server that tried to authenticate to Microsoft Exchange is [%2]. Make sure EdgeSync is running
    properly.
I proceeded to delete the offending Receive connector for the scanner/photocopier and restart the server,  the transport service started ok this time but still I cant receive mail from the outside world.
My question: Can I delete the automatically created default Frontend "servername" connector which contains the proper settings then recreate it again with the same settings and NOT harm/delete all the users emails or the mailstore
or anything bad for that matter?
I have the details on how to create the connector but just wanted to check that's its ok to remove it and re-add it again now that everything was setup and running fine. I'm hoping the recreated Connector will fix what I broke.
Appears what I have done has broken my connectivity to telnet to port 25 to the exchange server from the outside world although oddly I can telnet to the server from a command prompt on the exchange server (telnet "servername" 25) and
getpresented with the exchange server responding. The tickbox for anonymous is ticked already. Port 25 already is forwarded from the firewall to the exchange server and was working fine till I made the error.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

OK so I found some more details online and decided to take the plunge (after a backup was taken) and my problem is now fixed. Although thank you to the 40 people that atleast looked at my query.

    4. Recreated the Receive connector for my photocopier/scanner but this time choose Frontend Transport role and Not the default Hubtransport. Restarted the server, crossed my fingers and everything worked!! (Apparently restarting both transport services
is sufficient, but hey I just want to be sure it works from reboot in future.
Exchange SP1 will break any custom receive connectors that you have made prior to installing the update (nor even warn you that you're about to create an addition hub transport connector on port 25  after the SP1 update, there should
be only one hubtransport on port 25 as I understand it, its ok for Frontend transport) . The transport service will not start, so to save you the hassle of deleting your custom connector just run this command from an elevated exchange powershell command to
change the custom connector from hubtransport to Frontend Transport then start the transport service. ( you may have to kill the Transport service .exe process in task manager, then start the transport services after this amendment from the services.msc panel)
Set-ReceiveConnector –Identity "Your Receive connector name" –TransportRole FrontendTransport
Alternatively, delete and re-create the receive connector and set its role to
    FrontendTransport and NOT HUBTRANSPORT !!!!!!!!!!!
This issue occurs if there is a receive connector of Transport type
HubTransport that has the binding set to port 25 on the affected Exchange 2013 server. On an Exchange 2013 server that has both back-end and front-end roles, only the
FrontendTransport server-type receive connector should have the binding set to port 25.
To fix this issue, run the following cmdlet to change the connector type from
    HubTransport to FrontendTransport:

  • Default frontend receive connector settings exchange 2013 hybrid edition?

    Hi,
I am busy setting up a hybrid environment with exchange 2007 , exchange 2013 hybrid edition and office 365.
When installing exchange 2013 it creates a default frontend receive connector, on the security tab anonymous user is also selected.
Should i leave it this way?
At the moment the mx record is pointing to the exchange 2007, in the future i will change the mx record to the exchange cloud.
I can telnet and mail to the exchange 2013 server, but there is no spam protection, do i need the anonymous user if i am not intended to use this for the mx record, i suppose office 365 is going to use this connector.
(ps: still have to run the hybrid configuration wizard, waiting for dns ownership txt record)

    Hi Steven,
Just as Ed said, the connector restrict access via IP address. We can also create another ones.
If you worry about the spam, I suggest enabling the Anti-Spam function on MBX server.

  • Visio 2013 and Office 2010 Professional Plus

I am using KMS.  Both Office 2010 and Office 2013 keys are installed on the KMS server.  On a Windows 7 system, Office 2010 Professional Plus in installed and activated.  Visio 2013 Professional is also installed, but it is not activated.
I see hits in the event log for activation requests, furthermore slmgr.vs /dlv all shows a 4 count for Office 15, KMSHostVL edition.  This is probably correct, we haven't deployed Office 2013 or many Visio 2013 apps.  The problem is every time I
open Access 2010, the Office installer runs.  This does not happen for Word, Excel or Outlook.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem or how to troubleshoot it?
I tried running the VA client diagnostic tool, but it said Office was activated.  I am sure in looked at my 2010 Pro and not the 2013 Visio.
    Thanks

when you have a combination of Office products installed upon a single machine, (even sometimes with a single product installed), the Office applications can sometimes suffer a repair/re-registration sequence upon application launch.
This can happen in non-KMS scenarios, and, is usually caused by missing registry keys or a damaged installation.
It can also be caused by updating/patching one of the Office products, since updating/patching will sometimes cause the registry entries to be re-written, which can "toggle" the registered default application.
This is one of several reasons why MS recommend against having multiple versions of Office installed upon a machine.
Try a repair of Office2010, to see if that will correct the registration of Access2010. If successful, then check Visio2013 is still launching ok. Then check Access one more time (to see if launching Visio has disrupted Access again).

was also able to export the file from Visio once changes were made.  However, when I go to import the file into SharePoint Designer I receive a message stating "This workflow cannot be imported because it was created in SharePoint Designer for a
different site, or the original workflow has been moved or deleted.  To move a workflow between sites, use Save as Template (.wsp file) instead of Visio workflow drawing."  I cannot figure out how to save it in the format the prompt is suggesting
as this is not available from the list of Save As options from Visio and when exporting from Visio the only format to do so is as a Visio Workflow Interchange (.vwi file).  When exporting from SharePoint Designer I’m only able to export as a .vwi file
and the Save As option is not available in SharePoint Designer.  Additionally, the file location where I exported from SharePoint and importing back into SharePoint is not changing, nor is the file name.
    2. If I create a workflow from scratch within Visio utilizing the SharePoint 2010 shapes, I'm about to export without a problem and save as a .vwi file.  I'm also able to import this workflow into SharePoint Designer, but the problem is the workflow
never actually shows up and I do not receive any errors.
Any help on either or both of these issues would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric

Use Visio 2010. You may be running into a compatibility issue between Visio 2013 and Designer 2010.
