Vision is down and has been since about 4 o'clock

Hi,
just opening a thread as Vision is down and has been since sometime between 4 - 4:30ish.  I made the mistake of rebooting my box and now can't get past the bootup screen until it's back up again.  BT are aware of the problem and have a recorded message on their helpdesk saying so, but just wanted to open a thread so that between us we can keep an eye on when it comes back up.

I found our black box would not record yesterday about mid-day with an error message.  Rebooted as directed and it would not get past the "Give it 5 mins." screen, phoned  1114567 and got thro' to India - tech tried everything but no go so said I should do a factory reboot.
Did this by holding down front off button for 10 secs then OK and down buttons for 3 secs - no fun just came to red X.  So he organised a technician vist for Thursday.  After that I did about 6 further resets and this morning it burst into life! We have not lost any recordings.
Now I discover that there was a nation-wide fault!  I have cancelled the tech. call.  I checked on this forum at the beginning but there were no faults reported.

  • My iPod shuffle (4th generation) battery is dead and will note charge.  It is one year old and has been charged about 4 times.

    I tried charging it last night.  The shuffle got very warm and did not charge.  The indicator light was not on.  I just tried hooking it up to the computer with iTunes running and it has been plugged in for 3 hours.  It is cool to the touch this time.

    The standard warranty is for one year from date of purchase.  So, if there is a hardware fault, you may want to have it checked under warranty.  If there is a nearby Apple Store, you can do so with an Apple tech support person at the Genius Bar.  To make a reservation, use the store's web page

    My emails have frozen. Open ended up an email last night and now nothing on the screen will move.

    Quit the mail app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    The iPod crashing when editing a photo is a known bug in iOS 5.1.1.
    For the other problem.
    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

I have had people send me messages which I have not received. These have been screen shot to me later including time and I have just not got them. I had 4 weeks worth of messages go missing from my phone..I know that he synced my phone because his work laptops I'd came up in my settings. Also if the above can be done can he change the settings on my actual phone and access my location without placing tracking software on my phone.  Can someone please help here as I can't restore a backup to my phone for obvious reasons and refuse to change my number because of this loser.

    Connect the device to the computer.
    In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
    Sync.
    This is all described in the User's Guide, reading it may be a good place to start.

    This means the iPhone has not been connected or synced with your computer since the passcode lock was enabled on the iPhone and too late now.

    When we open the Certificate status window, it indicates that the Validity was issued 4/9/14 (when our problems started)
    As of today we can receive messages but not send anything…very annoying.
    Is this related to the recent Heartbleed bug or is something else going on?
    What are our options to restore service?

    Is Thunderbird mistaken about the certificate listing a host name other than your mail server, or is the error interpreting the certificate correctly?
    You can check in two places:
    * on the first tab of the certificate viewer, "Common Name"
    * on the second tab of the certificate viewer, lower box, Extensions category, look for "Certificate Subject Alt Name" to see whether the certificate covers multiple different host names

    It is quite large, but I have tried two of the fixes suggested and things now seem to be moving along.

    I finally stumbled across a fix for this problem, and in case someone else is frustrated at some point by a similar issue I'm posting what finally worked to enable me to bring iTunes up at any time (without rebooting first).
    The solution was to go to the preferences to uncheck "search for shared libraries".
    I'm glad the problem is fixed, but Apple developers really should include a timeout function on iTunes search for a shared libraries. At least a visual dialog to confirm that the application is in the process of searching for a shared library on the network would help provide clues as to what is causing the spinning beach ball to appear right about the time the application window should pop up.

    You haven't actually asked a question, but as stated you should only download Flash Player directy from Adobe.
    Nor have you said what version of OS X and Safari you are running.
    You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.

    You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

    and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

    greetings!
    every time i start illustrator i encounter a new error.
    "the preferences file is corrupt and has been reset to the default settings."
    "the corrupt file will be backed up as Adobe illustrator Prefs.err"
    this problem manifested after i added some more .ai and .ase files to my swatches directory. i do not believe anything else changed.
    not sure how to diagnose the problem. is there a debug mode or something? perhaps an offending file.
    an option would be to try remove each added swatch file or folder individually, but this would be a very very time consuming process for me.
    i use cs4 on a Macbook pro  running Snow Leopard - 10.6.2 and would appreciate your advice.

    Every time you close down Illy, the current preferences (which may have been changed while you worked on files) are saved, and every time you start up Illy, those preferences will be used.
    Usually, preference corruption probably occurs randomly, caused by the OS, but if something in your files change the preferences to something that is not viable you will get an error like that.
    You may press Cmd+Option+Shift during startup, which will replace the current preferences with the defaults, and probably you will get rid of the error message. It is probably not a cure, though.
    If the error is persistent, the cure would be to get rid of the offending things in the files you work with.
