Vision M 60GB - locks up during sync

Hi all
Hope someone can help.
A while ago I updated the firmware to the current one. Ever since when I sync it jams part way through and even when I stop doesn't disconnect player, so I have to unplug and soft reset the player every time. Now I've ripped a load of new stuff, it kept jamming the same, but now it just won't add anything new so I'm stuck.
I've cleaned the player up with Creatives help, but still have problem.
Anyone know what I should do?

(The drive may be failing. But i would suggest Format(will erase all the files) Cleanup.Reboot, When adding alot of files at one time periodicaly do a cleanup>reboot afterward. http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=208

ITunes is locking up during sync of iphone and ipad during backup

When I try to sync either my iPad or my iPhone 3GS, iTunes is locking up during the backup stage of the sync. This started two days ago.

Thanks whatheck, that worked! I confirm that my antivirus (ESET Smart Security) was interfeering:
I disabled ESET and synched - it worked!
Then I also backed it up manually, and that worked also (30 seconds).
Then I re-enabled Eset and backed up again... it still worked...
BUT then I Synched again, and it failed! Had to kill iTunes and the applemobiledeviceservice with taskmgr.
So I turned off realtime file system protection in Eset, and after restarting iTunes (with 3gs still connected), Itunes said "Verifying PaulW's iPhone" for a couple minutes.
- Then it synched fine (couple minutes at most - got a new podcast).
- Then I backed up again manually which worked (10 seconds!).
- Then I synched again, no problem.
Note that AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is still using 50% cpu when sitting there doing nothing, even with iphone not connected. Have to kill it manually (in task manager - processes) or cpu fan runs constantly.
FYI: my ESET is a couple weeks out of date (subscription expired) will have to update it...

Vision M need tech: freezing during sync/doesn't recognize progr

Until about 3-4 days ago I had no problems with my vision M 30gb. Well now it keeps freezing. I have reset it several times, reformatted it and still have the same issue after I try to sync files back to the device, Here is the situation, once I connect to the computer it will recognize it for about 5 seconds then it freezes at the docked screen. If I unplug it sometimes the player will be fine and other times I have to do a hard reset. I reformatted the device and have proceeded to add my music files back to the player but it is at that stage that it begins to freeze.
I can get into mediasource, the sync manager or source media and onto my player independent of each other but when i connect the player to the computer it is as if the program and the device do not recognize each other. I can open the media programs but once I connect the player they all freeze and as soon as I unplug the player the programs start working again.
I was able to update the firmware but even that was a problem and I had to reformat the player to get that to work. I am using Vista opperating system but I have been using the player with this system for about 3-4 months so that is not the issue.
I am at my wits end about this situation especially when the player costs as much as it has only to work for aprox 5 months.

Sorry to having problems. Freezing can occur sometimes with corrupted data (songs) but you said in the post that this happening even when you dock.
I realise you probably have done this already but I would re-format the player. Then in rescue mode (hold own the play button and turn on) try the reload OS option again. You'll need to download the firmware from our site and when you reconnect the player you can then run the firmware file.
One other thing as a diagnostic step - you could set the player up as a removable disk (in the Extras on th4e menu). if the player is still freezing it is will be a hardware problem.

ITunes started locking up during sync

Running Windows XP, and have been without any issues. Suddenly today, I can not complete a sync. After a couple of minutes, CPU usage goes to 100%, Task Manager says iTunes is Not Responding, and the phone just says "Sync In Progress". This is after it syncs contacts and calendars. I thought that it might be related to a long pod cast I was syncing, but I removed all my pod casts and it still happens. Any ideas? I'd call Apple support, but I know they'll just tell me to restore from backup, and that's just not going to happen. If I have to do that, I'll just toss the phone and get something that works.

Buy a mac and you wouldn't be having these issues..
Have you tried performing a selective startup on your Windows machine to see if its a third party service or startup item? ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275 )
Have you disabled/uninstalled your third party security software that can cause a plethora of system issues? ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125 )
Have you tried uninstalling iTunes completely from your computer and reinstalling according to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 ?
Have you ruled out your content that you are syncing by attempting in a new user? And to take this even further, does it occur on another computer?
I would try these before you bash, saying that its the phone, while millions do not have the issue you are having..

Ipod/itunes locking up during syncing

hi. i have an ipod video, and i had itunes 7 and it was working perfectly, until i plugged it into another computer to put a song onto it. i could still use the ipod, and i plugged it back into my home computer and used the program senuti to get the song that i had added from the other computer onto my home computer. this worked fine, and now i had the song i needed on my computer. i ejected the ipod and then plugged it back in. itunes launched like normal and began syncing, but then it stopped responding. i waited a while, and then force-quitted itunes. then i ejected my ipod from my computer and removed the cord, but i got the message "you have not removed the device properly" or something to that effect. now i have no songs on my ipod, but when i go into the about menu, it says that i have 20 gigs available rather than 27 or whatever it should be. now every time i plug in my ipod, itunes launches and starts syncing. however, at random points, itunes either stops responding or gives me a message that says that my ipod can't be read or written to. i updated to 7.1.1 or whatever the latest version is, and tried restoring my ipod, as well as the other 5rs, but it still doesn't want to work. i have no idea what to do now, as my ipod is out of warranty and all i can think of is that maybe the hardrive is damaged or something.

I've noticed the same thing (I'd just come here to post about it when i saw your message).
maybe it's not been noticed much yet because i presume more people play music from their libraries than from a CD…
it's happened on 2 CDs for me so far, and on both - the first track plays fine and then iTunes just stops after a few seconds of the second track (in album order). If i double-click another track, iTunes plays another second of the second track (not the one i clicked on) and then becomes unresponsive.
The first CD this happened with then disappeared from the desktop and i had to restart to get my Mac to realise it still had a disc in its' drive!

My ipod touch is locked in expanded mode. It happens every time I do a itunes update. I've tried to soft reset then a hard reset. Neither has resolved the problem. The screen goes back to normal but expands and locks during sync. help

IPhone locks up during update/sync

I have synched my prior iPhone for several months so everything was set up fine, but it no longer will allow downloads. Last week, I tried to download the update for iPhone, and it locked up. When I disconnected, the iPhone was ruined, would only accept a download, but then would not complete the download. I got a new iPhone. Now, I have reloaded from a backup, I have the latest version of iTunes, and when I tried to download the latest iPhone update FIVE hours ago, it looked like it was working, but iTunes and the phone are stuck in "Updating iPhone Software." I will have to disconnect again; I cannot stay connected indefinitely. The telephone support is not available (I don't know what their limited hours are), but when I called last Sunday with the same problem, they could only help me redownload iTunes - and that didn't fix my phone. Help!!

I just bought the iPhone and when I brought it home, my phone and computer both locked up during teh software update. I spent an hour on the phone with a very nice lady, but she couldn't help me. She transferred me to a product specialist, and through conversation, we realized that I was the problem. I had my phone plugged into a powered USB hub, and it just would not work that way. I figured that since the hub was 2.0 and was getting power from my outlet, it would be fine. Guess not... As soon as I plugged it directly into my computer USB port and reset everything, it worked fine. I think you said you were using a laptop to sync, so maybe your USB port is just not cutting it. Good luck w/ the fix.

Auto Lock still enabling during sync

I have disabled the auto lock to never come on. I was initially getting errors during syncing about the drive not being able to be written to after a few songs. I adjusted all my power settings on the USB hubs on my pc and in the bios, to make sure they weren't auto disabling to save power.
Now I can get much more songs on it before the error, and every time the error occurs through iTunes, my device shows that it's locked again.
Like I said, I'm disabled this feature, changing the setting to "Never". I have powered down device and disconnected from PC, booting device back up and reconnecting, attempting sync again, and after many successful track transfers, it locks itself.

You can re-download purchased apps for free. Click on buy, click yes to I want to purchase, another popup will appear, you have already purchased, do you want to re-download, click yes.

My iTunes locks during sync. I am using Windows 7 and iPhone 4s. It almost completes and says "Waiting to copy." I forcibly end iTunes and open again with the same locking problem. I used another cable and the same thing.

Some people in that thread suggest unchecking "Include voice memos," just click the iPhone on the left side of iTunes, click Music across the top, then you'll see the voice memo option.

Prime Infrastructure blocks SNMP during sync causing PRTG alarms

We're running Prime Infrastructure 1.2, and until yesterday we were mainly using it for wireless monitoring. We use PRTG for monitoring the state of the rest of the network. I added our core router (6509-E w/VSS), and during syncs, we will get PRTG alarms (SNMP traffic sensors) saying "No response". The downtime is ~5 minutes (which is the PRTG scanning interval). So, it seems like Prime is preventing other SNMP traffic during the syncs. Is this normal? I don't really like the thought of receiving a boatload of false alarms several times a day.

Prime Infrastructure 1.2.0.103 was deferred and removed from Cisco.com in favor of 1.2.1.12, for a number of issues. The current release is 1.3.0.20 Update 1. Between the two, there have been a number of fixes with regards to Java threads being locked, amount of system resources being used by the Oracle engine, size of the backups, and a lot more. You may want to look into getting current to see if the behavior changes.

Given the volume of data polled during sync cycles, I could see where Prime Infrastructures questions might dominate or even overwhelm the router's SNMP agent, but there's no process that puts an access-list to prevent the agent processing any other station's traffic while sync is going on. You may want to check the CPU utilization of the SNMP agent (show process cpu | i SNMP ENGINE) before, during and after the sync to see what impact the sync has.

I had to return two Vision:M players because on several (not all) of my downloaded, purchased and fully licensed songs it would lock up during the final second or two. I had to reset the player and a REBUILDING LIBRARY mode begun shortly afterwards. It appeard to do this to the same songs unfortunately so something about the song file seemed to dri've the player into havoc mode. My music is virus-free and works perfectly on other players as well as my several computers. It is only on the Vision:M that I cannot play my purchased music. I have a Dell DJ that works great and never caused this problem. That is NOT running PFS firmware however and the ZVM does!? Since the music should be indefferent to player firmware, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Too stressed to even try for a third one now!

Why does my ipad mini power off during sync

My ipad mini shuts down during sync. Then I get a message that says the sync cannot be completed, because the ipad cannot be found...what's up?

On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up?

The tracks are from voice recordings that were downloaded from an extrernal drive and weren't necessarily tagged as spoken audio. Do I need to go back into itunes and relabel these tracks so they will show up on my ipad2?

With the iPad connected to the computer, while iTunes is running, click on the iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Movies tab and look for Movie Rentals. You want to "Move" the films to the iPad.

No, I never really found an easy solution. I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device. In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs. A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup. It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad. But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost. When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might. If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it. I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.
