(Vision:M) Alternatives to Horrendous Creative Softwa

I have one of the new Vision:M players. The Creative software that came with it is truly horrendous and buggy...
Examples:
) Can't create smart playlists that sync on the DEVICE, just the computer,
2) Creating a playlist in the software and copying it to the device causes
the software to re-copy the songs in the playlist back to the device,
even though they may already be on the device,
3) Each time a song appears in a playlist, its title is duplicated in the
device's "All Tracks" list,
4) "Sync media with Computer" simply does not!
5) Media transfer starts out fast, then gets slower and S-L-O-W-E-R as
transfers continue.
etc., etc., etc.
There MUST be some 3rd party software for the Vision:M out there that can be used to make the Vision:M less painful to use? Any suggestions? I'm using Windows 2000Pro, but have been forced to use a friend's Windows XP system and the Creative software to get media (via WiFi) onto the Vision:M.

I agree 00% with you. Playlists are terrible, creating duplicate songs instead of just creating a small file that points to the songs that are already on the Vision:M. Also, I noticed last night that, for some reason, half a dozen of my albums lost their "Album" ID3 tag so the Vision:M had them listed in album search as "Unknown". After spending time manually fixing these in Mediasource, I tried to sync with the sync manager. After trying to sync, the software said there was nothing to sync. Huh?... I just changed the ID3 tags on about 00 songs! The software can't detect that change and update the songs on the player? I had to highlight the songs in Mediasource and manually send them to the Vision:M. All good right?...wrong! Now there are duplicates of all the songs I just sent over, even though I sent them to the same folders AND clicked on "Replace Duplicates" when prompted. I had to go back in, AGAIN, and manually delete the old mp3's. Took about an hour for something that should have taken 0 minutes. There's things not to like about the ipod but I have to say that itunes worked flawlessly and no matter how small a change you made to a song or your library, once you plug in the ipod the software syncs to it easily and quickly.Message Edited by Mercury2k on 02-0-2006 02:0 PMMessage Edited by Mercury2k on 02-0-2006 02: PM

  • If you need ANY kind of help with your Zen Vision:M or any other Creative prod

I just wanted to let everyone know there's a great website and forum where you can find really helpfull things related to all Creative products. It really helped me with my Zen Vision:M
There you'll find news, deals, info, help, etc. and the forum I was talking about. You should check it out
    www.epizenter.net
It's like a very friendly and helpful creative's products fan site.Message Edited by omarceja_s on 08-8-2006 0:08 PM

As said above you can not move mp3 files between folders, which I also find very annoying, along with not being able to rename files or albums on the player itself. Hopefully Creative makes these minor modifications for the benefit of future purchasers, other than that the player is great.

  • Zen Vision M issue- Freezing on "Creative" startup scr

Hi everyone. Thanks in advance for your help. I am currently using a Creative Zen Xtra 30 and love it. Have never had a problem with it. I just purchased this Zen Vision M (30 gig), turned it on and it locked up on the Creative startup screen. I've tried everything i could think of, including turning the power off (won't let me unless i drain the battery), using the reset button (just essentially restarts the unit and freezes again on the startup screen) and doing combinations. I don't hear or feel the HDD firing up at all. Is this thing DOA? Is there anything else I can do? Please help! Thank you very much!?Brian

I have the exact same problem. I just mailed mine in for repair today.

  • Alternatives to the Creative Cloud

With Adobe's decisions to force users to go to subscribe to the creative cloud, I thought it might be a good idea to get a list going of some alternative programs. I'm a designer working mostly in print with some web - anyone know of some good alternatives for these?
    Photoshop -> Gimp
    Illustrator -> ?
    Indesign - Quark
    Dreamweaver - ?
Flash - been moving away from that anyway
What programs are you going to look into to replace the creative cloud?

We will not be moving to Adobe cloud based software and have been in the process of identifying alternative software. This was more of a philosophical decision by the owners and designers as opposed to an economic decision; we actually want to see Adobe knocked down a few rungs to facilitate customer patronage and competition.
Over all, and with the possible exception of Dreamweaver and perhaps InDesign, and for what we need and do, we are working smarter, will be working cheaper in terms of overall software costs, are no less productive using alternative software thus far; we are definitely less complacent in terms of what can be done, and we have access to some new rapid e-learning development tools. Pragmatically speaking, there is ample time to transition away from CS6 products (platinum collection in my case), and I would encourage everyone to give it a shot to the extent that is possible.
Adobe alternative software solutions will undoubtably vary greatly based on individual needs. I have pasted one of our original working lists below and there are many more options out there.

  • Why does the Vision M come with old Creative Mediasource ,and not version

I just got a Vision M player and was disappointed to find it came with the older version of Mediasource, I recently purchased and returned a Zen V 2 gb. player that came with version 5 software. I'm confused why the M only gets version 3.30.35 . I removed version 5 before I loaded the M software thinking I should to avoid conflict. Has anyone had any problems using version 5 with the new Vision M ? I should have copied the disc before I returned it,oh well. I've tried to update using the autoupdate with no luck I keep getting an error at 33% then windows asks to send and error report or de-bug. I've given up on the update site.Message Edited by Roadslayer on 09-26-2006 07:03 PM

Zen Vision M was released earlier than Zen V. As such, it has the older version of MediaSource in the product CD.

  • Creative Zen Microphoto 8GB: Unrecognized by Creative softw

Alright, I just got the player yesterday. I believe it has an issue with Creative's software and the USB. It's noticed in Windows Media Player 0 and on my desktop. I tried using the software in my laptop and it worked fine, but I would really like to use it on my desktop since my laptop usually doesn't have my MP3s on it.
I've tried upgrading the firmware, setting the USB in the registry, rolling back WMP, using the motherboard's own usb ports, and reinstalling the drivers and the software. None of this worked, but I can now turn the volume up higher.
    Any advice or ideas?

I have the same/similar problem with my Microphoto 8GB (though I didn't get as far as deleting the firmware on the player). The player works - it continued to play music after I discovered this problem, until I formatted it on the advice of the website. The computer cannot recognise the device when it is connected and the player itself crashes/freezes every time I try to hook it up?- as well, interestingly, as causing problems with other USB devices connected to my computer, including my wireless adapter.
I've tried as many of the fixes on the website as I can, but none of them have helped.
At the moment, all of the Creative software has been removed from the computer, I have Service Pack 2, have rolled back to Windows Media Player 0 and?I have tried following the link for the MTP drivers listed in another post further down - but according to that I had nothing to download. I can't update/remove/uninstall any drivers as my player does not appear on the device listing of my computer (at best, I can find it as an Unknown Device which doesn't seem to help).
I can't understand why it has just suddenly stopped working. I purchased my player in September/October 2006 and it worked fine up until last week, although I did note the time prior to that the Creative software didn't work for data transfer - I had to open it under My Computer and drag-and-drop the files onto it. Have Microsoft released an update recently that I will have downloaded under automatic update? I am upset as this player cost a significant portion of my budget and is currently little better than a paper weight.Message Edited by CrimsonB on 03-07-200704:5 AM

  • Re: Help with Nomad Jukebox 3 and Creative Softw

Okay I need help with the following...(bare with me!)
First, I have a Nomad Jukebox 3. I record shows with it at concerts that allow me to record via the optical input. I currently use Creative Media Source but I don't have the pluggins to "Burn CD". I am wondering how I can go about getting these?
Currently I can not burn these "line recordings" onto CD, and when I right click on the line recording in the Creative Media Source to find the file name there is no Properties icon that I can go to, to see the file name so I can just do a search in my computer to pull these up in my current CD burning software.
Also, "the line recording" is one big file. What program/software do I use to splice up the individual tracks so that it won't be one long "line recording"?
Now when I bring my music from CD or my computer to my Nomad, I've been using Creative Play Center. Do I have to use this all the time or can I use Creative Media Source? I'd rather use one or the other and not have both to deal with... I don't see any icon of my Nomad Jukebox 3 on the Media Source but there is one on the Creative Play Center.
Okay now one more thing just to inform you that from my Creative Play Center I am converting a concert that I downloaded and it's currently in wav format. I am converting it to MP3. Now when I do that in the Play Center window it now shows me the wav and MP3 format for each individual song. That's cool that it doesn't completely erase the wav format, however when I want to download each song in MP3 format I have to go to each individual MP3 which is fine but everytime the Transfer Options Box opens which asks me the Title, Artist and Genre each time.
Is there a way that I can just fill out the information once, so I don't have to do that for each MP3?
Thank you for helping me understand the Creative software and helping me know what I can and can't do!

I found the CD burning module for MediaSource hidden in the download for the Audigy soundcards, at least in the European downloads area. Take a look and if you can't find I'll have another look for it.
To edit the file you need a WAV editor. I'm guessing Creative might bundle something with their soundcards, or you can look on the Internet and take your pick from the cheap to the mega expensi've. Audacity might do it, and it's free http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ so worth checking.
MediaSource is the replacement for PlayCentre, but I think it just comes down to which you prefer (but they are very very similar). Note that you have to download the Nomad pack for MediaSource to get it to work with MediaSource.
When you transfer your converted MP3 to the player it's asking you for tag data, which is vital for the Music Library on the player. You can of course edit this tag information either in MediaSource direct, or probably more optimally in a dedicated tagging program. • Internet Explorer won't open since installing Creative softw

I was asked to look at a friend's PC because she is having trouble since installing the software that came with her Creative Zen MP3 player.
Whenever we tried to open Internet Explorer, Microsoft Frontpage opened with a message about installing softwatre (Frontpage extensions?) though I don't think she has Frontpage on her PC.
I managed to get it back to normal by the use of a System Restore but then the fault reappeared after reloading the Creative software and we had then lost that System Restore point (should have saved a new one!).
I did see something with a GOOGLE search which seemed to indicate that others had this problem but could not get the full details as the message had disappeared.
I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to get Internet Explorer back.

    Internet Explorer is here.
       C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
What happens when you try to execute iexplore.exe from there?
If it doesn't appear to open, start Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). On the Processes tab, sort them by name and see if iexplore.exe is listed.
If you've done Windows updates, you probably have v11.

  • Problems installing Creative softwa

I just bought a Creative Zen Nano 52 MB mp3 player and everytime I try to install the software to my Sony Vaio computer, a window pops up and says that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. So I tried to install it on my sisters Emachines computer, and it worked perfectly. It is so frustrating and I have gone up and down in this website to find an answer. If anyone has a solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance.
    -Justin

p.s. My player is the Zen Nano Plus GB (don't know if the s/w is any different). And it does appear to be a quicktime conflict as forest describes. The "creative" intro plays, then the window that says "click on the arrow to continue installation", and when you hit the next button it closes and goes to the error window - "DemoShield Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Once the error is reported, it says the conflict is with apple's quicktime program.
    Thanks Again, Ang

  • Audigy 2 not reqocniezed by creative softw

Any help on thi swill appreciated.
First it worked on win xp sp2, then updated with latest drivers. that updated removed not only the drivers but also all creative software. reinstalled the software. But device is not found by the mixer or any other creative program. But i have sound and asio support in cubase and so on.
But i cannot record anything because i can not use the mixer because it says no soundblaster device found.
I tried almost every solution on this forum, so does anyone has a suggestion. I know the device is ok.
Because it worked before the update.
    Sound in games also work.
    So please please help...
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Jerry.

Update: I've got mail from the german helpdesk yesterday. I should start CTZAPXX.EXE from the installation-CD (/audio/drivers), reboot the system and start the installation from the cd again. Unfortunately it didn't work, starting CTZAPXX.EXE doesn't do anything (just got the sandglass for a short while).
I informed the helpdesk of that behaviour, as well as I updated the device and xp found the creative usb driver and the device seems to work. Only Creative is not able to find the device and I cannot use the Creative Software.
I also tried to install the update "AUDX_WEBUP_LA__00_000.exe" but the installer just tells me to use w2k or higher, I have xp sp2 ... I also tried "SBDX_WEBUP_PCWDRV_03222.exe" from creative support, the installer can't find any creative device :-(
BTW: The driver xp is using for the audio is "c:\windows\system32\drivers\sbusb.sys" Version 5.2.0.93 by Creative.
Don't know what to do more. I hope the german helpdesk has a solution (or somebody from the forum?).

  • Zen touch connection issues with Creative softw

I?ve updated my Zen touch to the play for sure drivers and since I?ve done this the creative software does not recognise when the ZT is connected (Nomad explorer). However windows media player and HMV digital do recognise the connection and allow me to sync songs to the payer. I?ve tried loading the ?Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players? update, but this doesn?t work as it won?t recognise my ZT as connected during the installation! I?m running WMP and IE7 on my computer and have already tried the registry change mentioned to solve connection issues but this doesn?t help either.
Any suggestions or anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks

Sounds like an incompatibility with the card, which is surprising as NEC cards are usually no problem. There are various things to try as mentioned in the FAQ post (search on "connection problems") but I think you need to focus on making sure you have the latest drivers for the card, as well as the player itself.

  • How do i download the creative softwa

I lost my cd that downloads the creative software,...where i can download music? and all. So im wondering if theres a link i can use on this site ...to down load it. Thankss a ton

  • Is there an alternative to the Creative Centrale software?

    Hi all
The reason I ask is because I'm really struggling using it. I can rip CDs to the player no problem, but find it well nigh impossible to add music already on my PC to the transfer list. Plus it seems to take an age to load up and see what's on the player, whereas ye olde Creative Jukebox software which my previous player ran with was quick and so easy to use. Can anyone help me out or give me advice on Centrale that I may be missing? I've tried using Windows Media Player but find that doesn't work properly either, so it appears the only thing I can do is cut and paste music using Explorer which seems cack-handed and clumsy.
    Many thanks in advance.

    >Centrale is an absolutely worthless program...don't even bother using it. To transfer your files onto your Zen, all you have to do is:
. Put your files to be transferred into a folder...any folder...then open that folder.
    2. Dock your Zen (jeez, that sounds dirty)
    3. Go to "my computer" and click on the "my zen" icon.
    4. Then simply copy and paste your files from your folder onto your Zen...works every time.

  • Zen Micro Photo Recognized in Vista but Not Detected in Creative Softw

How do i fix this problem? My Micro Photo is recognized in Vista. It shows up a portable device when i click "computer"? I can see all the songs on my mp3 player. The problem is the the Creative Mediasource 5. and Zencast organizer says it is not detected. These are the new versions for windows vista. Just downloaded them from the creative website.
Can i just copy and paste songs on the mp3 player from within "Computer" since it is recognized as a portable device? Which software is supposed to be the one I use for organizing music..Mediasource or Zencast??

Great Call on installing the playsforsure update. I had the exact same issue... Zen V Plus recognized by Vista, but not by Mediasource 5 organizer. I had already installed the "CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36" update from Creative's support site, which supposedly included the Playsforsure plug-in. However, when I went to Mediasource 5 help, software updates menu item... the plugin was listed as neeing to be downloaded and installed. My Zen V Plus was recognized after the reboot!!
