Vision:M enlarge capac

Hello every one. I'm considering buying a Creative Vision:M 60GB player but I have a small question first. I'm affraid that the 60 GB won't last for long and the free space will run out(I have many many CDs and as CDs store worker it will only get larger [= ),Will there be an option in the future to enlarge my player's capacity?if Creative will realease a new larger but matched player will there be an upgrading option?and if not, is there a way to replace the hard-disk manually?(probablly the warranty will go-off, but still)?thanking you in anticipation.

well, that's not necessarily true. There is a 00g dual platter dri've out there and there are folks trying to put it into the ZVM 60g body. It's looking good atm.
You would have to do all the work yourself and you will void your warranty, if it is still even under warranty by then, when you open the case.
Quite a few folks have upgraded their 30g to 60g already with no problems at all.Message Edited by zenwerewolf on 06-0-200706:42 PM

  • ZEN VISION 30GB - Music Capacity Quest

Re. http://www.creative.com/products/pro...4&product=2985?I would want to store as much music?as possible. Can I use the entire 30 GB for MP3 files or is the player partitioned for music, video, and pictures thus limiting the space that can be used for each file type. Thanks. AZ

It is not seperated or partitioned for certain files, you can use the space whichever way you want, if you want to put only music on it, you can do that.

  • Name ur ideal creative player lin

Basically that's how Apple succeds where creative fails they have a few players that are simple and make them perfect. creative just has a hundred or so players that all have their own problems. If they don't do sumthing, they'll never catch up. I think they should have the v plus, microphoto, vision m, only the best player designed like the tx fm, and the sleek photo. They should also have just black and white screened player 4 ppl on a budget that want a good player. there's more of wut I think in the zen neeon 2 announced thread by trance. name ur ideal player lineup

Although I commend Creative for recognising that people have different tastes, all these new players are getting too confusing. I don't think they should stop supporting the older ones, but I think they should be discontinued. As soon as players with video become as cheap as monochrome players two years ago, we should be looking at a line-up like this:
two-hand hard dri've multimedia player = Zen Vision
    large-capacity hard dri've MP3 player with video = Zen Vision M
    medium-capacity flash dri've MP3 player with video = Zen V Plus
    small-capacity flash dri've MP3 player = Zen Nano Plus
It is a shame as I personally find the look of the sleek/photo very appealing, but sacrifices have to be made. The muVo line should be discontinued: Creative players need to become synonymous with 'Zen'. Creative should focus on future generations of these players, whilst giving a few more firmware updates to their predecessors. We could see an 80GB Vision M, or a Nano Plus with a colour screen. I think this will help Creative win market share.

  • Zen Vision M capacity problem

I have a 30GB Vision M, and had a problem during a sync. Now, I put a little over 800 songs on it and it says it is full.
How can I restore the capacity?

I just realized how stupid what I just sent you was!? It says "Total Space - 28565 MB", which I guess would
be about right, since 30GM would be a little over 30000MB. I can't figure out why it will only take 800 songs,
unless there is something on it that isn't showing up. It should hold 5 times that many.

  • New Black BT Vision box - what is missing, a discu...

Maybe it's just me but here is a list of things which are currently missing or wrong with the new BT Vision box (black edition with new interface and OS). Thought it might be useful to keep a list of these going which people can add to.
would also appreciate it if anyone can help with any of these issues in case i've missed something
Red button doesn't work - believe this is  'coming soon'. you can still access the channels by going to 301 or 302
Teletext doesn't work - the button pops up a message saying it's not available, coming soon?
There is no way to set recordings to over run? - this used to be very handy on old box, particularly with live shows. is this being brought back?
No signal strength tester - you used to be able to check digital signal reception strength and quality from the settings menu, not any more
Pressing 'play' when viewing a recording doesn't flash up the progress bar - any other good way to do this, used to be handy. Fix: pressing "select" does the trick
no HD Freeview - the box isn't capable, wondering whether they might upgrade us to YouView later on for this?
No options to set resolution - used to be able to define 720p or 1080i for instance, not any more
Sky Sports small white box - a small logo in the bottom right area, not sure what this is or why it's now there?
    Subtitles on iPlayer missing
Some reported picture quality issues - both on SCART and HDMI
    On the plus side:
Bigger capacity on the hard disc
Faster inteface and movement between sections
Nice new design and sharp interface resolution
Channel logos / graphics now in the information bar menu
When in the TV Guide there's still a small box showing you what you are watching on the current channel
    Music playlist
    Bookmarks
Reinstatement of the 30s jump and better fast-forward / rewind (30s jump doesn't work on Sky Sports)
Ability to jump to specific point in recordings (you need to start it first, then stop and go back into it to have option)
Ability to reenter a recording at a time offset
Icon to show which recordings have been watched
    HD iPlayer
    Recently viewed in iPlayer
Ability to resume a programme on iPlayer
    Ability to resume on demand
    Disk usage on Recordings page
Auto switching format for HDMI and SCARTOne-press toggling of Subtitles and Audio
    Previous channel facility
'Play all' feature for On Demand series
anything else people want to add?

  • When I try compose an email, just get compose window icon stuck in windows taskbar can't actually enlarge it and use it

Ok, details of installation below, so when I try compose an email, I just get a compose window icon stuck in the windows
taskbar can't actually enlarge it and use it. If I restart in safe mode with all addons disabled, then it works fine. But
If I restart normally and manually disable addons/plugins, then close and start normally again i.e not safe mode, it
breaks, so does not seem to be an addon or plugin but rather something with the configuration.

  • Zen Vision M 30GB & Playdock Z

After my IRIVER 6GB H0 died during a firmware upgrade I decided to look to the market for its replacement. I wanted more memory & to buy from a company that (in my view) put effort & resourses into after sales as well as new sales. Didn't fancy IPOD - due to (what I consider to be) restricti've practices. So after a bit of research creative seemed a natural contender - in fact the only one that seemed to offer IPOD-like-specificaction for the price. I've had the Zen Vision M for about a month - all I have to say is that it is brilliant:
    Reliable<
Fantastic sound - for a condensed music format<
I prefer the chunky case - makes it more durable & harder to loose<
Works brilliantly in the car stereos - thanks to the much higher output volume than the IRIVER<
Mine is black. I've had no trouble with scratching - although i did buy the Creative leather case on the day I got the player & I never leave it 'naked' in my pocket<
I've so far put about 00 albums, 500 photos & 50 videos (from my digital camera) on it & am only scratching the surface of the memory capacity<
I find the?controls much better than the IPOD wheel (one of my kids has got a Nano - which is very good also)<
The menu is completely intuiti've. I quite like picking a single artist or gendre that I might have several albums from, pressing play & letting play for a few hours!<
Dead easy to upgrade the (brilliant) software & firmware?- & I'm no techy. <
I thought that was as good as it was going to get. I was wrong. I managed to track down the Playdock Z500. This was a bit of a challenge - as they seemed to sold out everywhere on the internet (in the UK) & no shops seemed to have them. Near to London's Oxford Street is Tottenham Court Road, this seems to?be countries best place for electonic gizmos. There are about 30+ shops in a short stretch of road. Having been in and out of?about 0 of these, I struck?Lucky. After a quick 'barter' to agree the price?- as is the practice in the road, I left the shop a proud owner of the play dock.
What first struck me was the weight. This is not?a flimsy peice of kit. When I got it home & put it all together the results were fantastic. A few key points:
The speakers have a built in subwoofer round the back & a base knob that you can adjust. At a deafening full volume, apart from potentially upsetting the neighbours, the house was filled with sound there was no distortion. For a small system this certainly?'punches well above its weight'.<
The Z500 has a video out, so I can see the pictures, videos & even the menu?from the Vision M on the television when the supplied cable is used. Picture quality much?better than I expected & very satisfactory.<
The remote control that comes with?the speaker is just excellent. Funily enough it is exactly the same moulding as the one used on my?fathers Bose system - & that cost ?900 ($500+?). Not only do you get on/off & volume - but enough buttons to navigate the whole Vison M menu - on your TV if the AV lead is plugged in!<
The?Playdock has a volume knob on the top - plus a 'wide sound' button, which really transforms the sound.<
The speakers on my PC are not vey good - so guess what? That's right, they ended up in the bin & the Playdoc doubles up for this as well!<
Not to mention, this is a very attracti've piece of 'furniture' too! It was on this basis that my wife forgave me buying both items without consultation!<
I've never written a 'review' about anything before. But I was so impressed that I felt I wanted to (I would have been just as quick to complain if I was unhappy).
I hope that someone else finds this posting helpful & find the devices as good as I have.
    Pete /02/2007

I own the Zen Vision M 60gb & have just bought the Playdock Z500 which I agree sounds amazing .My question is regarding the remote control . I've managed to do most things on it but I was wondering if you knew how to jump to the A - Z listing down the right side of the screen in artist & track search menus ?On the player you normally would press the edge of the touchpad but on the remote I cant find a way of using the A - Z shortcuts & have to scroll down for what seems like ages!Hope somebody can offer some help? Thanks,?John?

Hi, I stopped using this MP3 for about 2 or so years because I bought a new one. I decided to start using it again and downloaded all the required software but as soon as I unplugged the MP3 from the power outlet, the player died. I can't get it to start up without plugging it into a power outlet. I think it has rechargable battery? Why didn't it recharge itself?
My second enquiry is about the capacity of the player. When my player was empty, I went into "Information" and it said Total Space: 28GB and Free Space: 2GB. Why is free space only 2GB? Shouldn't it be 28 as well?
    Thanks in advance!
The battery will only last about 3yrs regardless of use.You will need to change it. Did you scroll down to see the album, picture, track counts? Did you partition part of the dri've for removable storage. • Creative Zen Vision M question!

Creative Zen Vision M question!?Hey guys, I'm not from US but I hope you will understand my english anyway .
    So here's my question:
Is there any legal way to get one of "creative zen vison m" players? I prefer new products... 60gb would be awesome..
Since Im fed up with Apple and got already n Touch i simply want a player with a good capacity and just to listen to music... and i pretty much liked the creative zen vision m player... more than any new product from creative... all of em are more like multimedia and not "classy"....
Furthermore I just find the product over google at customers site... if i browse all mp3players from creative I cant find the product i want.... It would be awesome if anyone knows a way to get a new one of these... and it would be kickass if it could get delieverd to EU/Austria
At the end, thx for all the upcoming posts n answers and a picture of the desired product:
    <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://img.tomshardware.com/de/2006/02/06/zen_vision_m_creative_antwort_auf_den_ipod/vision02.jpg"]http://img.tomshardware.com/de/2006/02/06/zen_vision_m_creative_antwort_auf_den_ipod/vision02.jpg[/url]

really? :/ I dont like ebay and would prefer a new product... is there no other solution? Like writing to the customers and make out a good price for em to get a new of zen vision m?
Otherwise, i know it doesnt fit here, but does any knows an "classy" player with about 30-60gig... like ipod classic, just for music n maybe photos... I dont need any multimedia .. got touch already...
If anyone knows a good one which looks nice post here, would be awesome
(I hope asking for other brands is allowed :S, otherwise sorry)

APPLE NOW HAVE SENT ME AN E MAIL SAYING  IF I DO THAT I WILL LOSE DATA AS I HAVE MORE STORED THERE THAN THE BASIC AMOUNT.CAPACITY. wHY THEN CANT i SEE THIS DATA?

"I still dont understand why I dont see any of these camera roll photos (or any) when I sign in on line on my pc to my icloud account.
If photos cant be seen there, how do you arrange for an accidently deleted photo to be restored from there into the iPad?"
If you set up photostream correctly on your computer/ipad and instructions can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
it automatically created photostream folder in your Pictures/my pictures folder for Windows or iphoto for Mac.
You will find all your pictures in there, no need to go online. If you didn't use Photostream -start doing so now.
Otherwise you pictures are included in your back up, but that is an image file. What it means you will not be able to retreive one picture out of back up. You can however restore from that back up - instructions here
iOS: How to back up - Apple - Support
You probably do not want to do that for one picture, or even two but the option exists and steps are also in the article above.
"You say music does not take up i Cloud space . Does that mean it is not saved there in any way?"
What I meant that whatever is saved - does not go against 5 gigs of storage that apple gives you - unlimited space available, but only for the stuff you purchased in itunes.
"If it is saved but cant be seen, how do I set about restoring a music track that was deleted accidentily in the i Pad?"
It can be seen and instructions here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store ... - Apple - Support

  • How do I adjust the size of program fonts to accommodate low vision users?

Is it possible to adjust the size of program text to accommodate low vision users, like an enlarge text button or CTRL + zoom text function like in my browser?
I know I am not the first person to approach this issue.  Since PSE 5 the text sizes have been getting smaller each version and even harder to read, and now that screens are much larger, it makes the menu text even smaller. I predict that by v. 20, users will have to just memorize where to put their cursor to click on a menu item.
I have already adjusted my system text sizes to 175% but it does no good for PSE, if I use the zoom entire screen, I can only view 1/4 of the workspace at a time. There really should be an easy way to personalize your workspace. I have to reduce my screen resolution to 800x600 and change back to 1920x1080 to view the item in it's intended location each time I edit or create images and cannot work on the document that I am creating or editing a graphic at the same time.  What a huge inconvenience.
I have resorted to keeping my binoculars next to my computer for just this reason.  Picture it... binoculars to select anything on a menu.  In a way I feel like a prisoner.  Who are the quality control people, anyone that suffers with low vision? The last major problem I had to live with, PSE 10's gray on black! Find the scroll button when your eyes are tired! LOL.
There are major reasons why I stick to PSE too, so changing programs is not a viable option for me.

    popsierose
I am assuming that you are on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Not sure if there is another way, but the way that works for me
    a. right click the computer taskbar, and click on Cascade Windows
    b. in the Premiere Elements Expert workspace, go the the bottom right edge of the workspace view, place the mouse cursor at that point until its tip has a diagonal icon, and then drag upward right to left diagonally to give some view of the desktop where I have the file for the drag and drop into Premiere Elements....then drag and drop the supported file into the Timeline or Project Assets or a drag and drop location.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
    Thank you.

  • ART + TECH - ART VS. TECH (+ the relationship to java, coding, + vision)

Not that this is a new struggle, here's my perspective anyway.
I have posted this discussion as it's own topic because I thought it deserved it's own heading and title. The original was written in a response in my heart and mind to the current state of geekdom.com.
I am not a tech by birth. I am becoming a tech out of necessity. I cannot afford 3000 programs to develop what I see. I also cannot stand to let what I see coming go undone by myself. I just reliquished a partnership with a tech friend who was working with me on my new company. He had no time to even answer emails. I am now out here in codeworld trying to create everything from scratch.
As a visual artist, "codeworld" is not very familiar, and most of the characters inhabiting this world hate the visual world, and "see" it as unimportant. (Thoughts and interior worlds being much more valuable and relevant).
I know that there are 2,000 languages and options to accomplish this task (see earlier posts---java Html proccessor/templator templater???). Some are pricey, some are labor intensive, some like Java seem to be so complicated that I cannot begin to think of doing this all on my own. I wanted to accomplish this originally by February, and with all the components that I need to get working, I am afraid it could be Feb. of 2005, by the time I get my vision into the real world. (of course by then, what I see will be outdated and obsolete)
Yes, the problem here is money and time....Ha ha....like none of us have not heard that one before. I was told elsewhere today that Macromedia has all the tools I need in a package, and so I looked up the cost. I aint there yet!!!! (is it really that good---macromedia-generator????--------comments please from anyone)
The HTML generator---templator is just one of the pieces of a large pie that I see, as a desktop/ work system. I know that Java can do it. I have seen the incredible visual tools that it can generate. I am frustrated however in that to make visual tools-----I have to deal with a totally left brained -----code based (scientific)-system----that is anti creative---anti----free radical!!!!
I see a delivered final system for the regular JOE BLOW, that will let him deal with "pretty pictures" as a user interface. The systems I "SEE" will allow CAVE MEN to get what they want. No creature should have to go to school to use a damn program============ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After all these years of development, can't we be a little further along in delivering to the "public" a truly user friendly system?????
In the next decade programmers and geeks will become extinct, because they insisted on their 15 milliseconds of fame and fortune. The artist, and intellectuals are coming, and will take over. All we need, all that the public needs, is a "SYSTEM" that makes sense-----real world sense--------not code sense.
If you think I am angry.................well yes I AM....I am tired of techs that cannot take 1 minute to answer email.
Yes, I am your free radical, Yes I am "not of your world" (techworld that is)
Yes, you are all too busy.
Yes, you all are in high demand at your 35.00 to 125.00 an hour rates.
Enjoy it while you can,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it aint gonna last, your market is eroding as we talk mention it.
Smart guys don't just grow up here out of American soil, they grow up in India, in Rumania, in the Phillipines, anywhere.............
Because of the wonderful invention that only you were smart enough to make======the internet,,,,,,,,,,,,,you are now screwed....................
Your tech buddie in Korea only needs 12.00 per hour instead of your 125.00 per hour..............
I would not care about any of this if I did not see a product that needs to get to market. I forsee a product invented (with whatever tech/code/language) that will make AOL look scientific and complicated.
I am waiting for someone who can stand code, but who can dream, and think --------------WAY BEYOND code. Yes, money is an issue, but if the product can get to market--------------------neither one of us will ever have to worry again.
PS...........you may think I am crazy, I do not care. You know that 60 foot TV screen in NYC on the front of the NASDAC---CNB=== NBC building, I saw that.
I saw that in 1979. (only the technological application of it that I saw, cannot be built yet, it will take 10 years of holographic tech to actualize that "vision").
Has anyone ever "seen" what the desktop will look like in the year 2008?
    I have.
    Join me.
PSS. I am not lazy. I do however want to continue on with my visual computer dreams.............I know there is a lot more. I need some techs to help make these dreams come true. YES, I have now contradicted myself. I am famous for that. I DO NOT HATE TECHS. I am just tired of tech excuses, and tech attitudes.
If all of you have no time, well then fine. I will DO IT MYSELF.
    me

    Starbase,
You've commented on how unfriendly user interfaces are, and on how the techies don't seem to pay any attention to artistst and intellectuals.
On the first point, I think if you look objectively at what someone who doesn't know anything about computers can do now, vs. what an "expert" could do 20 years ago, you have to admit that the advances are astounding.
My wife, my mother, my brother, all non-techies can compose nice looking documents, send email, search the web for any information they want, without having to know a whole lot of bizarre arcane tech-talk.
Granted, there is a lot of software that has a poor UI, but things are improving, and the harder to use stuff generally (not always) gets pushed out by its frienlier cousins.
Also, you have to realize that while doing certain tasks can be made easy (click here to get email, click there to send new email, etc.), to perform more complex, powerful, flexible operations, you will absolutely have to understand something about the technology you're using.
Anybody can be taught the sequence of keys to press on a piano to create the melody of "Twinkle, Twinkle." However, if you don't understand something about how notes fit together to make chords, how notes, chords rhythm, etc. make a song, how the keys, hammers, dampers, strings, and pedals in a piano combine to produce sounds, then you're not going to be able to use a piano to its fullest capacity. Does that mean that a piano has a poor user interface?
Anybody can dip a brush into a blob of paint and draw a smiley face, but an understanding of how colors combine, of water vs. oil, of different textures of brush and canvas, etc., etc....
And finally, on this point, let me add that you need to be a little more patient. There are a lot of things that have to come together to produce a revolutionary user interface, or even one with significant incremental improvements.
First, hardware has to be fast enough, cheap enough and ubiquitous enough. Take the 5 software packages that you think have the best interfaces and try to run them on, say, a 386. Not pretty I imagine. The 386 is how old? 5 years? 8 years? Ancient history in the computer world, but not that long for real technical revolutions.
The simple fact is that slicker, cleaner, more powerful, yet friendlier UIs require a lot more horsepower (including CPU, memory, video, etc.) to run than a simple text driven menu system. A box with dual 1Ghz P4s and 1GB of memory and a top of the line video card could handle a more robust UI than what's on the average user's desktop today, but who's going to invest the time and money in building that UI when only a handful of people have the hardware necessary to run it.
And hardware is just one piece of the puzzle. Again, given what is asked of a UI--that it's job is to present a front end as close to human nature as possible and convert that to something the underlying hardware can use--the simpler you want it to be for you, the more complex and sophisticated it's got to be behind the scenes. That kind of complex and sophisticated software is difficult at best and impossible at worst without certain software development techniques, tools, and practices. Those are also coming into their own along with the rest of the tehcnical evolution (no "r").
And what about standards and convention? If software A is easy to use, and software B is easy to use, but they operate in completely different, proprietary ways, even for tasks that the two have in common, that's not going to seem all that easy to the artist who tries to use both. Getting all parties involved to agree on a common way of doing things is not a trivial task, especially now that there's an established way that works and that a lot of people are at least moderately comfortable with.
Okay, I've rambled enough about that. I'll just ramble a little bit more about the second point--us techies not soliciting the opinions of the artists--and then I'll shutup.
Are you aware that many (most?) companies that produce software do have artistic folks on staff whose job is make sure the interfaces make sense? I think Apple Computer has had a significant staff in that area since the introduction of the Macintosh. My own company has a creative department who is responsible for the overall look and feel and flow of our software. And in fact, at every job I've had, among the programmers I've worked with, there's always been at least one or two folks who had an artisitic or intellectual bent as well. Believe me, there are a lot of people involved in the production of software who are not just bit-shuffling coders.
Finally, no matter how pretty the front end is, it's behavior needs to be precisely defined. That is, an almost mathematical description of "state x, input y leads to state w, behavior z, output q". It's my humble and unscientific opinion that a lot gets lost in the translation from the artist's vision to the bit-shuffler's spec. The spec is absolutely necessary--without it you'll get software that' wrong and/or unpredictable. However, the non-bit-shufflers of the world often don't want to be involved in the precise statment of behavior, and the bit shufflers don't have the patience or ability to extract and understand the precise spec from the artist's pretty pictures. I honestly think that the difficulty in communicating from vision to hard dry spec is a huge blockade on the path to getting software that does what somebody wanted in the way they wanted it done.
I do agree with your basic premise that it would be a good thing if computers in general were simpler and more intuitive to use. However, I don't agree with your evaluation of how bleak things are right now, how little progress is being made, or how little input the artist/intellectual/"common man" has in the process right now.
Whew. I'm bushed. Online or not, discussions like this should not take place without a good beer/wine/scotch/martini on hand. :-)

  • Why won't Creative release a 60 GB Vision:m alrea

it's to my utter surprise that creative is still stalling their release of higher capacity vision:m's. With mention of Toshiba's 30 AND 60 GB mp3 player/PMC coming out before the end of march and apple's tremendous success with the 60 GB 5G ipods which are sold out absolutely everywhere in new york, why is creative not stepping up? i know it's only been 3 months or so since the release, but that's 3 months (and counting) of lost sales due to the meager 30 GB capacity. maybe their 60 GB model will coincide with apple's highly anticipated "vPod" with touch screen and whatnot. also, here's a link to check out http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archi'ves/2006/02/creative-zen-vision-m-60gb-or-80gb-coming-soon.php
i think i'm just going to have to jump on the Toshiba S series Gigabeat or the year-old Cowon X5 to satisy my need for a 60 GB player. Creative vision:m would be my first choice easily , but they show no signs at all except that found in the link above. please someone give me hope.

Creative is fighting an uphill battle here.. with Apple dominating the market.
I picked up a ZVM from BB and absolutely love it, I've had it for a few weeks.
Defintely worth the wait tho.. couldn't stand the thought of being seduced by the dark side into buying into the reality distortion field....
Toshiba has been very slow on the draw too, not to mention Cowon. They are all doing battle with a giant.
But I agree completely with you that Creative should announce (and most importantly deli'ver quickly) a 60G version of the ZVM. They've got a great player here and need to capitalize on it.. here's hoping.
...and while I'm at it.. Creative plzzzzzz add AC3 with a firmware update!

  • Zen Vision or new ip

I'm thinking about getting a new mp3 player and I'm trying to choose between a Zen player or a new ipod classic 80GB. It looks like the closest comparable Zen is the Zen Vision:M 30 GB (there's also a 60GB, but I can't find any new ones in stock). The vision:M retails for about $250 and so does the new ipod classic. The vision:M looks like it's almost 2 years old, it has less than half the memory of the new ipod, and its the same price. There's also the Vision:W 60GB which retails for about $366. It looks like it has a nice big screen, but it has 20GB less memory than the ipod and sells for more than $00 more than the ipod. Plus it looks like its about a year old. Does anyone think Creative is about to come out with a new, more competiti've, full size media/mp3 player? Creative's biggest advantage in the past was that the Zen players cost significantly less than the ipods, but it doesn't look that way right now. Should I hold out for something new from Creative?

I suppose it depends on how much you are going to store on your player. The reason you won't find the ZVM 60gb is that it's been discontinued (as has the 30gb version) so when stocks run out, you won't be able to buy one. The W is about a year old and both the ZVM and the ZVW will be replaced with the new Zen. While the new Zen looks fantastic, it uses flash-based memory, which limits it's memory to 6gb. I feel that Creative will have to release a new player with a larger capacity, unless the general media rumours are true and Creative really have conceeded the larger capacity player market to Apple and the iPod classic. Another purchase consideration is using the iPod - do you really want to use the processer power-eating iTunes and be limited to buying music from iTunes

  • How do you determine StringBuffer and List capacity?

    hi all,
I'm curious and would like to post this query that how to determine the StringBuffer and List capacity after read some of the Java Platform performance book. Some of this performance books simply tells number of capacity brieftly without telling what and how does the capacity stand for.
First, the book mentioned StringBuffer(50). Note, my question is that what is this 50 stand for? 50 Characters? or any. Can someone help me to rectify this?
Second, List. ArrayList(0.75). And what is this 0.75(by default) stand for? A heap space? Then how many of them? How many objects that can be stored for not to "exceed 0.75"?
    Please help. :)
    regards,
    Elvis

I think the capacity is the CURRENT size of a container. But it is not equal to the number of elements that container currently hold. Just like, a house can have 10 people within, but problably only 3 people at some time. Also, the capacity is not equal to the maximum size, because container can grows automatically.
For example, a container whose capacity is 50, currently has 30 elements in it. If you add 10 elements more. That is only an addition operation. But if you add 30 elements to it. Then the container first enlarge its capacity according to some arithmetic(a enlarging rate), secondly carry out the addition operation.
Now that the capacity is the size, it should be a number standing for HOW MANY elements.... In the case of StringBuffer, it should be how many chars; in the case of ArrayList, it should be how many Objects. I do not think 0.75 can stand for a capacity. Prabaly, it was used to describe the enlarging rate when containers need to contain more elements than its current capacity. ( From JDK API, you can see the type of capacity is int ).
For containers and alike, the questions "how many I can hold" and "how many I am holding", "Do I can enlarge"? are helpful for understanding how it works.
