Visited Link Highlight Removal

In Dreamweaver MX. I created a journal title list for my
website. I used a table to do that. For each alternate rows, I have
its background in grey. Then, I keyed in the titles and linked them
to their own websites. However, after I visited the linked sites,
the titles in the no background rows are hightlighted in grey. How
can I remove the highlights and keep the original color for the
words of the linked titles.
The browser I use is Internet Explorer 7.

Thank you very much for your reply. I tried your suggestion.
However, my Dreamweaver MX does not allow me to change in the very
page. I had to change my template which I went in and found that my
template does not indicate any visited link color. After I changed
the visited link color in my template. It came out that the color
of words I used to link the website did change; but the highlights
are still there.
In fact, this problem only happens in a table. All visited
links outside the table are normal. I visited my CSS style file. I
cannot find any item for visited link highlighted color.
Would you please help me solve the problem? Thanks.
In fact, I just want to get rid of the

• FireFox used to highlight visited links...then it suddenly stopped. Is there a way to turn that feature back on?

Firefox used to show previously visited links in a different color. That was great for browsing Craigslist ads. Now suddenly it won't highlight visited links anymore. Don't know what made it change. Is there a "preference" somewhere that will allow me to turn that feature back on?

Hello, I am having the same problem (with Firefox 4.0.1) but with a twist.
If i click on several links (say, from a seller on eBay), the clicked links will be highlighted and they will also be entered and remembered in the Firefox HISTORY window.
However, if i open another identical page in a NEW tab/window, those same links will NO LONGER BE HIGHLIGHTED (i.e., one page shows the link highlighted whereas the other page does not)!!! Thus, it appears as if NEW tabs/windows are *not* checking the HISTORY and highlighting previously visited links.
Thus, there is no way for any NEW tab/window to highlight the link since it apparently does not properly check the history. This gives the impression that the highlighting "goes away" after a certain time has elapsed, whereas, it is only due to opening a NEW tab/window and expecting to see the previous link highlighted.
Note: I have Firefox set to "remember history" and i am not in the "private browsing" mode.
Note: There is also some inconsistency here as some prior links will remain highlighted days after i initially clicked on the link (as they all should) whereas others will not (as described above). There does not appear to be any way to tell which links will be remembered and which ones will not.
Thus, there is some pernicious code bug in this version of Firefox which needs to be ferreted out.

• Black highlight for visited links

I just noticed that, starting a few days ago, all visited links in Safari are now black.
Of course, if I clear History, then the links go back to blue. But, one click, and it turns black at next visit. It is NOT website-specific.
How would I remedy this? It's driving me crazy.

Prior to posting my first query here, I had cleared the history (Safari > History > Clear History) and it did indeed bring back the original blue links. So, I could call it one solution.
But, as I recall, it used to be that a simple reload of the same page brought back the blue links. I wonder why this is not happening anymore???

• Why don't my visited links get hilighted?

I had an older version of Firefox and after I updated noticed on certain web sights visited links are no longer highlighted. I can get this to work if I set the colors myself.

You're going to need to either turn off the "Overlap items below" setting on the accordion menu on your phone layout, or you're going to need to revert to the 7.1 version of Muse and re-publish.
A workaround/fix we put in place to avoid a Chrome browser bug has introduced a bug that prevents mouse clicks from reaching the items that are behind the area that's obscured by your menu when it's open.
We're actively researching alternative solutions to address the Chrome bug without this unacceptable side effect.
If you wish to revert to Muse 7.1, you can remove your current copy of Muse and install 7.1 from:

Once you've installed 7.1, you'll need to ignore the update notifications to avoid updating back to 7.2.

• Visited links in Google are not changing color. In Options Colors visited links are purple. Also, the "Allow pages to choose their own colors..." is checked

I have been using Firefox for many years. In the past year the Google page has stopped showing visited links in another color. Options are normal. Links should change to purple when visited.
This has been happening for a long time now. There have been several Firefox updates since then. Is it a problem with my system?

Does this happen with other visited links as well?
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

• Visited links no longer change color?

my visited links in  search have suddenly stopped changing color? how to get back to color after visiting?

I had this problem (or similar). Links changed color as I clicked them, but if I reload the page with all the links, they're all back to "unclicked". None of the above fixes helped.
Things started behaving properly after I disabled all add-ons (and removed ones that were outdated), then re-enabled them one at a time. I can't get the problem to reoccur, so I don't know exactly what add-on was causing it.

• How to backup visited links on Safari

Greetings
You know, each time you visit a link, those links are getting highlighted on Safari as purple.
Due to my work, i cannot loose those visited links as marked .
I wanted to ask if there is a way to back up those visited links, so if i upgrade my OS system, that the visited links should always stayed as the way they are
I would like to upgrade my OS to maverick, but i am a bit in worry that i will loose those visited links.
Is there a way to back up this ?
Thanks for your helps

Hi there
I tried to reinstal a new system , and icloud couldnt bring back the "visited link which marked purple by the system"
So i swiitched back to old system.
Seems like iCloud is only backing up bookmarks, well, history partially yes, but not restoring the purple colors on visited links
It looks like this is somewhere hidden in the system .
Any ideas?
My system is crashing, and this is crucial for me to instal a new system, but on the other hand i cannot loose those link, which are a lot, i mean a lot as i am a writer .
I really need help about that.
thanks a lot , really appreciated !

• Visited link colors shows on navigational buttons and icon despite not visited

Hello!  I (newbie) have problems in my very first website.  Some of my navigational buttons at my footer section and the icon on the lower left shows the visited link color green despite I haven't visited any of the link.  There are times these colors are all blue (unvisited links).  My URL is http://www.jespir.com. Please help and thank you in advance.

I have the same CSS coding.
Nowhere that I can see.
Open global.css file.  Change this:
a:link {
        color: #00F;
a:visited {
        color: #0C0;
a:hover {
        color: #FF0;
a:active {
        color: #CAE0EC;
to this:
a img {border:none}
a {text-decoration:none}
a:link {color: #00F;}
a:visited {color: #0C0;}
a:hover {color: #FF0;}
a:active, a:focus {color: #CAE0EC;}
Remove this from your embedded CSS code. You don't need it.
a:link {
text-decoration: none;
a:visited {
text-decoration: none;
a:hover {
text-decoration: none;
a:active {
text-decoration: none;
Save both documents and upload to server.

• Why does the visited link color change not work on some pages. this has only occurred in the past few weeks. 2 different computers Win 7 home pm Firefox 29

On some sites the visited link color does not change. I have checked all settings and they have not changed. I can make the problem change by unchecking the "allow pages to choose thier own colors" box , but the some pages do not display correctly. Things worked fine up to a few weeks ago. I feel it may be a glitch in firefox 29.
Windows 7 home premium SP 1
Firefox 29

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:
*Windows/Mac: Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
*Linux: Run firefox -safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole
If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* > Options/Preferences> Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* > Options/Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

• How do I stop Safari from Changing Visited Links Color's?

I recently switched from Firefox to Safari since I find Safari much faster. I do have one annoyance though. When I click a link (especially in forums) and revisit a page with that link, Safari is changing the link's color. Firefox did this too, it changed visited links from blue to purple.
I would like to set it somehow so Safari doesn't change the color of visited links at all. Is this possible? When I googled I saw many different posts about using custom made CSS style sheets. I just want to get an 'official' or more relevant answer since many opf those posts were years old. I'm using the latest Safari.
Thanks!

AFAIK, it's not possible with preferences, per se. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7183566 and http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/stylesheets/csslinks.html for possible hints. You might also investigate modifying one of Safari's css files, inside the Safari app—left as an exercise, with no guarantees that you won't cripple something.

• Can I see the appearance of a visited link using BrowserLab?

I'm having a problem with my site. My image links are behaving as the should in every browser except in IE8 where they are showing an unwanted underline. As I'm on a Mac, it's a pain to have to reboot in Windows to check every time I make a change to the CSS (and I have tried so many things to get rid of the problem)... so BrowserLabs has been the answer to my prayers to check general development. However, I need to find out if I can see what visited links look like, as this is where my IE8 problem is. http://www.cornucopia-design.co.uk/tablettest/cornucopia_meaning.html . Thanks

Hi Lesley,
I'm sorry, but no, there isn't a way to do this currently. We would need to have that in our browser history to give that appearance, and each screenshot request can go to a new browser instance, so there is no simple way for us to do this.

• Visited links not changing color on iPad Safari or other browsers

Hi,
On my iPad, when I visite a site via an hyperlink and then go back to the initial page, the color of that link is not changing anymore like it is on my MacBook. For example, in Google search, the visited links don't turn violet and remains blue instead. This is the case in Google search, Yahoo but not with Bing. The problem occurs on all my iPad web browsers (Safari, Atomic Web...).
Is it a bug or a config thing that I can fix myself ? Anybody have any idea or did find a solution to this same problem ?
Thank you,
Daniel

Well, I'm a mixed bag. After wasting time and missing the point earlier, thinking that this was about the Google app, today I finally suss to the fact that the discussion's a tually about in fhe browser ...
Anyway, I take a look and, sure enough, the first one I try does pop into a violet color when returning to the results page. I thought it distinct enough to easily notice, and couldn't remember seeing it before (use the app most of the time).
Unfortunately, that was rthe one and only time I saw that happen over the next ten minutes of running searches on multiple topics. All subsequent cycles showed the exacrt same shade of blue on return, and this includes tests run in the middle of and following such steps as clearing the app (cache, cookies history), force quitting the app, and restarting the iPad.
Nothing made any difference. That first time was the one and only time, so far, that I saw the color change.
Also tried a Reset. No change. I guess if it's really supposed to work then a Restore might do it but .... I think not.

• Hi, My places.sqlite file size is 30,720 KB have I reached the maximum size, is there even a maximum size for this. Visited links are no longer changing color.

Hi,
My places.sqlite file size is 30,720 KB have I reached the maximum size, is there even a maximum size for this.
Suddenly the visited links are no longer changing font color, as I am preparing for an exam I need visited questions to change color, to keep track of questions that I have finished. But if I delete a few days of history then again,a few more visited links change color then again it stops, so it seems something is getting full and not able to accommodate any more? Why are my visited links no longer changing color after a certain number of visits? I do have a back up of the places.sqlite file. So I have tried everything from deleting the profile, uninstalling reinstalling, creating a new profile, then copy pasting places.sqlite etc, but as mentioned after a few visits, visited links no longer change color, if I delete a few days of history then again a few visits will again change color and then stop again, so what should I increase so that my visited links quota is increased, I have also tried tweaking about:config and it has had no result. Although I was not really confident that increasing brower.history_max _pages (don't remember exact name, but I am sure you get the idea) is going to help.
Seems as though my visited links change color, quota is full and only if I delete a few days of history will I get a few more visited links to change color. Can somebody shed some light? As mentioned my places.sqlite file size is 30,720 KB so I think perhaps this has something to do with this? Would really appreciate if someone could help. Thank you.

There is no maximum for the places.sqlite database and other SQLite database files like I wrote above.<br />
All SQLite database file have fixed minimum sizes and if they run out of space they are automatically increased in size with a specific chunk size. For places.sqlite this is 10 MB for the minimum and for the chunk.

• Visited link color is not changing when there is no page redirection

Visited link color is not changing when i just open a popup on clicking the hyperlink.. whereas visited link color gets changed when i redirect to a new page on clicking the hyperlink
I want to have my visited link color to change even if i show a popup on clicking the hyperlink
This works fine with IE..

Hi,
Have a look at the user status table TSOCM_STAT_PROP and see if there are any unwanted PROCESS_TYPE <> STSMA combinations.
For your process type there should only be one kind of status schema assigned.

• Google visited links indication failure

Background
Normally when browsers load a page they render previously visited links listed in History in a distinctive default colour. Style statements on the page, or elsewhere, can override this colour.
Some pages use JavaScript to dynamically change a link's colour without reloading the page. This is particularly useful when the link opens another window.
All this worked efficiently with Google searches until its JavaScript was changed a few years ago. Google now modifies the URL of links opening in other windows so that the URL is no longer the same as the one stored in History prior to the latest browser launch. The modified links contain random characters so that each launch of the browser contains different URLs for the same page hence inhibiting normal visited link indication.
Google visited links indication failure occurs for links that open another window, frame or tab caused by:
user's Google settings or
selecting a new window by right clicking or
using a page or link which puts 'newwindow=1' in the search results URL.
Google visited links indication failure can be avoided by never shutting down the browser or by not invoking a new window.
RemedyI have developed a Launch Agent containing a bash script which modifies History.plist items containing Google redirects. This works well but I have only been able to use the script after quitting from Safari so I run the Launch Agent at login or via the following AppleScript:tell application "Safari" to quit without saving
do shell script "launchctl start reset-safari"
Questions
Does anybody know of any similar developments or workarounds?
Does anybody know of a way to do this without quitting from Safari? ie is it possible to tell Safari to reload its memory without it overwriting the History.plist file first?

Switch to Bing.  Much easier.  I've been using that search engine by default for several years now, specifically because of this and other related Google search (mis)behaviors.
With Bing, it's possible to cut-n-paste the web site's URL directly out of the Bing results without having to visit the page, and without having to resort to Safari extensions.
Bing also tends to get less "reverse ranking algorithm engineering", which means that the Bing results tend to be less filled with cruft, as compared with the results for common Google searches.
Once in a while I'll use DogPile (which searches across multiple search engines), or a specific engine at DuckDuckGo, Blekko or Google for a specific (and usually more arcane) search query.   (But I was doing that with Google, too.)  Each search provider has different coverage with their web crawlers, and different ranking schemes.
