Visitor comments

Hi,
I was wondering if it were possible to allow visitors to add comments to blogs etc on sites made using iweb '08 but not published with mobileme?
I have clicked on the allow visitor comments box on my blog page and on iweb it looks as though the is a link which would allow comments to be made but the published site does not have the "add comments" buttons?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Now with iWeb. One user posted about a 3rd party comment site that he used: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=10981895
It might word for you. Many recommend using a dedicated blogging site and incorporate that into your iWeb site. It would be more robust and versatile. You could embed one into an iWeb page something like in this demo: Embed a Site Within an iWeb Page.

  • Blogging and getting visitor comments

I have a music site set up and have included a blog page.

What I am missing is: how do visitors leave a comment?
I am probably brain dead here, and must be missing something big time.
I go to my site and cannot figure how to leave a comment.
    Thanks in advance.

Go into iWeb and click on the Inspector and then RSS - blog. Then click on allow comments for all 3 of your blog pages and republish.

  • Can I edit visitors' comments before they're posted at my site?

I am running an iWeb site for a team group we belong to. In lieu of creating a guestbook (I have no experience editing HTML, but am very comfortable with iWeb) I figure the next best thing, easiest, anyway, is putting up a blog and letting others add their own comments.
Please correct if this is a wrong assumption - as I would love to have a guestbook at our site, but nothing that would have me going into templates and inserting code - I don't trust my HTML abilities.
Any suggestions most appreciated from me and our group!

hi all - i have an AS2 contact form using php to send the info to my email address - it all works fine except this ..... rather than having an empty comments box in the flash movie i had added a whole bunch of feedback questions that the user can comment yes/no to in the comments box (my feedback questions were added into the input text box in cs3 so are there when the user opens the contact page .. i have set the maximum characters to 10000 so no worries that its that that is stopping it all coming through in the email ..... basically when i go to my form online and send it i get it through as an email but with only three quarters of the feedback text in it ...... i have tried a zillion ways a round this, tried other contact forms and php and always end up with the same problem ... any ideas any one ?

  • 2 questions: Thumbnail page and Comment page

I have created a class reunion site -
    http://www.risd41.org/ri/alumni/1968/index.htm
    using Dreamweaver MX 2004 (I'm a newb!).
    (1) I now have over 200 photos that I'd like to be able
create a thumbnail page (or pages) for that link to the larger
images. I have seen other software (several years ago) that
basically takes a folder full of images and creates a linked
thumbnail page on the fly that you can FTP along with linked images
and your good to go. Dreamweaver have anything to do this?
    and
    (2) The site right now is static 1 way site. I'd like to have
the center part of the main home page have the lower area allow
visitor comments - much like a blog. How do I go about doing
    that?

    Not in dreamweaver.
    If you want static page:
Look in Fireworks or PhotoShop or some other IMAGE EDITOR or
    thumbnail
    gallery application.
If you want a server side application that allows photo
    uploading and
visitor commenting, look for a script like Gallery or
    Coppermine or similar

can other people upload pictures to my iweb site and other people comment or rate them? if so how?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you use a MobileGallery from iPhoto to house your photos and videos you can set it up in the settings so visitors can upload items to the gallery via email.
You can them embed the gallery in an iWeb page like this: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies.
I've not tried emailing a photo to a gallery so can't comment on how well it works.
For photo pages or album pages in iWeb visitors can add comments and attachments, photos, which other visitors can view. How they are added I don't know. Here's what the iWeb Help says about that:
    +*About visitor comments and attachments*+
+If you publish your site to MobileMe, you can let visitors add comments and attach files (which other visitors can download) to blog, podcast, and photos pages. These comments and attachments are visible to anyone who visits your website. To prevent automated programs from posting spam to your site, anyone who posts a comment is first required to type a displayed group of characters.+
+Comments appear as soon as they’re posted, and you can delete a comment and its attachment at any time using iWeb or by visiting your site with any browser. You can also turn off comments to prevent new postings without affecting the comments already posted.+
+Comments and attachments are stored on your iDisk. Each comment can be a maximum of 32 kilobytes (KB), and each attachment can be up to 5 megabytes (MB).+
+IMPORTANT:Before posting anything to your website, make sure you own the copyright and other rights to what you or others are posting, or that you obtained all necessary permissions.+

  • IWeb, new iMac, old MacBook, comments, sharing, etc

    Hi,
I made a page on my new iMac and:
    1. I want people to be able to comment on my blog but do not know how to enable that or if it is possible
    2. I want to be able to work on it using my MacBook. I just tried and discovered that iWeb does not seem to be on there anymore. Maybe it is because I upgraded to Leopard and iLife was erased at that time. Is it possible to extract the iWeb from my reboot disk from my MacBook and then work on the page I built using my iMac by transferring it through my MobileMe network?
Thanks for the help you offer,
    David

David ~ The following is from iWeb's Help viewer...
If you publish your site to MobileMe, you can let visitors post comments to your blog or podcast entries. These comments are visible to anyone who visits your website. You can also allow visitors to attach files (which other visitors can download) to their comments.
To allow visitor comments on your blog or podcast:
    • Select a blog or podcast page in the sidebar.
    • If the Blog & Podcast Inspector isn’t open, click Inspector in the toolbar (or choose View > Show Inspector), and then click the Blog & Podcast Inspector button.
    • In the Blog pane of the inspector, select “Allow comments.”
    • To permit visitors to attach files (such as images) to their comments, select “Allow attachments.”
Is it possible to extract the iWeb from my reboot disk from my MacBook...
You should have an iLife CD that came with your MacBook — reinstall iWeb from that.
...and then work on the page I built using my iMac by transferring it through my MobileMe network?
    See this Apple doc...

  • UNWANTED COMMENTS ON BLOG

I set up a Web page and then created a Blog. Is there any way I can stop anonymous comments or erase comments? It seems that blogging on iWeb is more for friends and family, rather than 'general' blogging...I have a blog on blogspot.com but it's lousy with Mac.

From iWeb's Help > iWeb Help menu item...
Allowing visitors to add comments and attachments
Tip: Only group members can post comments to a website published to a group. To limit who can post to your site, you can password-protect it.
Tip: When comments are added to your site, a blue dot appears in the iWeb site organizer, next to the blog page (if you are connected to the Internet).
    Deleting visitor comments and attachments
You might want to delete a visitor comment if, for example, it contains an attachment that uses material for which you don't own the copyright, or if the attachment takes up too much space on your iDisk.
To delete a comment directly from your website (without using iWeb), go to the comments webpage and click the lock icon. After you log in, click Manage Comments, select the checkbox next to each comment you want to delete, and click Delete.
To delete a comment and its attachment using iWeb:
In the site organizer, select the Entries page for the blog that contains the comment you want to delete.
In the Title list (at the top), select the entry the comment is posted to.
Click the Delete button (it looks like an X) next to the comment.
If you are connected to the Internet, the comment is deleted immediately from the website (you don't have to republish).
Note: To delete an attachment, you must delete the comment it's attached to.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have all the necessary rights for material posted on your site, including material posted by others.

  • Lock icon on add comment.

When I publish my iweb pages I allow user comments. But after publishing the pages a small lock icon appears next to the "add comment" link on every page. I'm using MobileMe account and iWeb 08
Anyone know how I can remove the lock so users can add comments to my pages.
    Thanks BobM

Bob ~ The lock icon doesn't prevent people commenting. See this Apple doc for its purpose:

  • IWeb - looking for replacements for 'blog' & 'photos'

With a deep Sigh..., I am finally facing up to the fact that I must move my iWeb Websites to another hosting sight and deal with the loss of the intergrated blog & photo pages that come with iWeb.  I kept hoping for a miracle but now I must get on with it.  I would be grateful for advice from those who have dealt with this issue already.
My biggest concern is finding suitable replacements for the blog and photo galleries that can be embedded into iWeb having a matching 'look and feel'.
I have developed many robust (well of 50) websites with iWeb and they are active websites.   The websites have:
Custom layouts (i.e. not using the suppled defalut template)
Blog pages (used as 'News' entries)
    Photo pages
    iMovie
    HTML Snipits
Many have been designed for use with charity events and recieve quite a bit of traffic (see stats below) before and during the event.
As for the hosting - we will use GoDaddy or other Domain Provide with Hosting services.   We have already moved some of the more less complicated websites over.
I love iWeb (I know it has it's faults and I have probably pushed it to it's limits but it has handled it well).  I have tried looking at other products like Rapidweaver & Freeway Pro (Dreamweaver would be out of the question for me as I'm not a programmer - I can deal with some basic html code for snippets and such - but that's my limit).  My partner has begun looking at Wordpress.  However, the biggest drawback from what I've seen from these other products is that I can't duplicate the freedom and ease of designing a template/layout the way I want it.  I have tried to duplicate a website I have done in iWeb and I simply can't do it with these other products (at least without a great deal of work - if at all).
So, I wish to continue using iWeb for the main website desgin but desparately need to find good replacements for the blog and photo galleries to move over my existing websites.
    Please HELP!
This is my 1st time up on the forums so I do apologise if this has been dealt with before.  In my searches - I just haven't really found an answer which is why I'm submitting this question.
    Many thanks, MichelleSC
P.S. I have been an Apple user since Apple began and have always raved about their products.   This is the 1st time I have been frustration with Apple.  I really wish they would continue to develop iWeb and keep Mobileme.

Do you have visitors post comments to your blog or it is one the only includes your entries?  If it's the atter then you can continue to use the iWeb blog. If you currently have visitors comment on the entires you will have to move to a new blogging system, one of those suggested by Ethmoid and Jeff.
As for photo albums I've just run across a new site called ZangZig which offers albums similar to MobileMe galleries with most of it's features plus one that MMe didn't have.  The capability of selling your photos.
One convenient feature of it is that it can move/copy photos from your existing MMe galleries as well as your iPhoto library and other sources:
As for for iWeb can do after MMe is gone read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.  There's a link in the tutorial to download the file that one needs to be edited and replaced in existing slideshows and in the iWeb application for future slideshows. Once replaced in the application it's back to life as usual for iWeb.

  • My iWeb Blog entries are not showing on MobileMe. Help!

When I click on the link from the Blog Summaries to one one my Blog Entries I get a 'Not Found' page - all published to MobileMe with the latest iWeb. These llinks have always worked before. The problem has been apparent for two days now. What can or will be done to correct this?

Does your blog have comments by visitors?  If not you can move your blog to a new server and only lose the ability to search the blog.  But if you have visitor comments included in your blog you will lose those comments when moving to a new server.
If you do have visitor comments post back and I'll give links to a method that can be used to convert your blog w/comments to a WordPress blog.

    Mybe Google or woodpress,
Or publish iWeb online with iCloud WITHOUT upgrading Lion?

iWeb will still be around but as Jeff pointed out if you want a blog with visitors comments you should consider converting your iWeb blog to  WordPress.  Rage Software has created an applicaiton that will convert your current iWeb blog w/visitor comments to a Wordpress blog. You can get the application here: Convert Your iWeb Blog to a WordPress Blog.
If you don't have visitor comments then the iWeb blog will continue to work for you on a 3rd party FTP server.
If you have photo pages in your website with the accompanying slideshow you'll need to read the following:
It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.

I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

  • Website function lost in mobileme to godaddy transfer

hi, i did a website using iweb, that, when hosted by mobileme, allowed readers to post comments and pictures on a number of blog-like pages.  now that mobileme's no longer hosting websites, i changed to godaddy, and all the comments disappeared, and readers can no longer add comments to the website.  is there a way to get the comments back (i can actually still find them, but not at the new godaddy address), and to enable readers to add comments again?
    the website is:

Regarding your blog: the only hope for keeping your visitor comments is to try the Convert Your iWeb Blog to a WordPress Blog | iWeb to WordPress for Mac OS X application offered by Rage Software. However, one user reported having a lot of problems with it and when contacting Rage was told it was going to be withdrawn till fixed.  As you can see from the link it hasn't so you'll have to proceed are your own risk.  Obviously some users have been successful because these forums have had only one posting of such failure.
Generally speaking about iWeb as you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.

  • Iweb on lion

I just bought a new Macbook pro with Lion on it. Unfortunaterly I noticed yhat I couldn't work with Iweb on my new laptop anymore. On the old Macbook with Snow Leopard I could work on the website www.boellaardprijs.nl I created. My question is how can I work on my Macbook pro further on this website. Now it is dead and I want to add with new content.

As Ethmoid pointed out iWeb will still be a viable web design app for some time to come.  However, if your blog contains user added comments those will be lost when MMe is discontinued.
If you do have visitor comments in your blog and want to preserve them a user has developed script to convert an iWeb blog w/comments to a WordPress blog.  You can get the info about that here:

The first like is probably the better link.

  • How can other people add files to your site?

    Hi!
Is there a way to add something like a dropbox, where people can add their own pictures and videos?
Is there a widget for it or is it included in Iweb?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you use a MobileGallery from iPhoto to house your photos and videos you can set it up in the settings so visitors can upload items to the gallery via email.

For photo pages or album pages in iWeb visitors can add comments and attachments, photos, which other visitors can view. How they are added I don't know. Here's what the iWeb Help says about that:
