Vista 64 bit and laserjet 3030 scanner quit working

My LJ 3030 worked fine until I connected it to a machine running Vista Home Premium 64bit. Now when I plug the printer (USB) in to the computer the Vista OS loads the "driver" and all seems well. The printer prints fine. But I have no tool box to run the scan operation. I've tried to load the tool box from the HP cd but can't, Vista will not accept. I've tried downloading the 64bit drivers from the HP support site with no luck. help!

Will this solution work for the Palm Treo 755p?

  • Vista 64 bit and CS4 and color management

This is a question about Vista 64 bit and CS4 and color management. I scan 4x5 film and sometimes end up with up to or even bigger than 1 GB files. Obviously that needs as much memory as possible. Windows XP is limited in this regard and I am in the market for a new speedy computer which won't force me to stay at a snail's pace. In this month's Shutterbug, David Brooks in his Q&A column says to avoid Vista for color management reasons, but offers no explanation or support for his opinion. He implies one should wait for Windows 7 for some unstated reason. With a calibrated monitor and printer and Photoshop controlling color files sent to the printer, why would Vista be any different or worse than XP? Is he on to something or just pontificating? Does anyone know any reliable info about Windows 7 that would make it worth waiting for?
    Thanks.

Photoshop has direct access to max 3.2gb
On Mac OS X, PS CS4 can use up to 8 GB of RAM, but only directly accesses up to 3.5 GB. (Figures quoted from kb404440.) In using PS CS4 on Mac OS, though, direct Memory Usage maxes out at 3 GB even. If you set usage to 100% (3 GB), then plug-ins (including Camera Raw and filters), as well as actions and scripts, can access RAM above that 3 GB to between about 512 MB and about 768 MB total (seems to vary depending on which filters et al that you are using), leaving the rest up to 4 GB for the Mac OS. If you have more than 4 GB, then the amount of RAM above 4 GB is used by PS as a scratch disk. This increases performance significantly for most things because writing to and reading from the hard drive is much slower than doing so with RAM.
I haven't done the testing for actual RAM usage and such for PS CS4 on Vista 64, and Adobe's documentation is very much lacking in detail, but, based on the statement "If you use files large enough to need more than 4 GB of RAM, and you have enough RAM, all the processing you perform on your large images can be done in RAM, instead of swapping out to the hard disk." from kb404439, it seems that PS would be using RAM in very much the same way as I described above for Mac OS, except that the scratch disk usage in RAM wouldn't be limited to 8 GB (instead to how much you have installed). Has anyone done any performance/load testing to know for sure? I didn't see any such studies published, but I am curious if one has been done.
I will agree that there is a definite performance advantage when using PS CS4 (64-bit) on Vista 64, which I've experienced, especially when working very large compositions.
My initial recommendation to the OP to use Mac was based upon reading those articles about bad color management. As I stated before, I have never experienced that problem, and clearly the views of all that have posted here so far indicate that the problem may not be a real issue. (Perhaps this David Brooks fellow and Steve Upton both like to mess with their computers and broke something in Windows?)

Windows Vista 64 Bit and Button Support?

Everybody claiming that Vista x64 (or Ultimate) can't be used with FN keys or Flash Cards is utterly wrong!
I have a Qosmio G30 running Vista x64 Ultimate, and have both FN keys, Toshiba Flash Cards and (partly) the hardware buttons at the top working.
After a lot of research, I found that Toshiba has released a 64-bit version of VAP called util_tvap_27581D. If you google it, you might discover it...

  • Just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit and its not working at all.

So I just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit, and it's not working at all. I open up Firefox and there is not tab bar, and all the command buttons are repeated 3 times, and are on 3 different bars. This only happens with Firefox 4 and not Firefox 3.6.10. Also, when I go the menu bar and I try to click soething, nothing happens. I'm not sure why this is going on. Help anyone? Here is a link to a screenshot of my browser.

I have this too, but doesn't even startup now? I downgraded to the previous version and all is OK. I also have a 64 bit version of Vista and it seems to work "a-OK" on that machine.
Seems to me to be 32-bit issue.
    Editing this post:
I just seen a possible answer...Do you have roboform installed (in the taskbar also)? If so, try disabling it or removing it and try to start again. I said above that I have 2 units and on the one (32-bit) I have Roboform installed and it crashes, but on the other one I don't...so go figure.
According to the report I read, if you upgrade Roboform it should be OK, although I have not tested as of yet...I am still at work...
    Hope that helps...

  • When I installe Firefox version 4 my finger print scanner quit working. Any fixes for this?

I downloaded and installed Fire Fox 4.0 a few weeks ago. As soon as I downloaded the new software, my finger print scanner quit working. The scanner light that normally appears when ever there is a request for entering a user name or password no longer turned on and the scanner was no longer functional. I removed the new Fire Fox version and re-installed version 3.6.17. My finger print scanner is now working again.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit and HP 2840 Color LaserJet All-In-One - Workaround

Although HP has not provided a workable solution for a use of a HP 2840 Color LaserJet All-In-One with Windows Vista 64 bit, I did manage to get it to work. The solution is a bit convoluted and may not work for all users but here’s how I did it. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Not sure how other Vista versions may behave.
I tried many different solutions that did not work. Attempting to install many different versions of the HP 2840 software in different compatibility modes ended up rendering my other HP 4385 All-In-One inoperative.  I deleted every piece of HP software and hardware from my system and reinstalling the HP 4385 software. Still couldn’t get my 4385 working again. I finally ended up restoring my system to restore point prior to attempting to install the HP 2840. All this to say that if you’ve made several attempts to get it working you may need to back up and punt with a restore.
Make sure your HP 2840 is NOT connected.
Press the “Scan” button on the 2840 (The control panel on the 2840 should say ‘Waiting on PC”).
Plug the HP 2840 in via a USB cable. A “New hardware” message should pop up on the PC.
Minimize this window. DO NOT MAKE ANY ATTEMPT TO INSTALL DRIVERS. Just ignore this message for the moment.
In Windows, go to CONTROL PANEL/SCANNERS AND CAMERAS. Hopefully you’ll see a “HP 2840 LaserJet Scanner”. If not, the rest will probably not work.
Now hit the "Windows Start" button. Select "Programs" or "All Programs" (depending on your setup configuration). Open "Windows Fax Scan". It should connect to the 2840 Scanner. Experiment with the scanner and select flatbed and feeder input  to make sure it functions properly. Once satisfied that the scanner is working properly you can configure the printer.
On the “New Hardware Detected” window that you minimized in step 4, select “Do Not Ask Me Again For This Hardware”.
Connect the 2840 to your network via a CAT cable.
On your PC press the "Windows Start" button and select “Settings and Printers”.
    Select “Add a Printer”.
    Select “Add a Network Printer”.
Windows will scan your network searching for printers. It should find your 2840.
Select “Next” (It is not necessary to let the search complete once your 2840 has been identified).
From the dropdown list, select ‘HP” and “HP Universal Printing PCL 6". It was the last one in the list for me.
    Print a test page
You should now have a HP 2840 network printer and a local 2840 scanner.
O course the drawback is that you can only scan to the PC where the 2840 scanner is attached via the USB cable. You can print from any PC on your network by following steps 9 through 15 on each network PC.
Another little tidbit I ran into; selecting any other driver besides the “HP Universal Printing PCL 6" driver cause my Microsoft Office 2007 to crash any time I selected the "Save As" option. I found some links on the Internet that indicate this is a known problem. It may not affect you but you might want to play it safe.
    Hope this helps someone.

Uninstall the HP software using the uninistaller in the HP folder.
    Restart your PC.
Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • TIP for Bluetooth, Vista 64-bit, and PalmZire72

I'm indebted to all the folks who have added so much to the discussion and hopeful solutions to the VISTA 64-bit problem for those of us who desperately want to keep using our dependable PALM devices. (Too bad that Palm as a company is not so dependable!)
I got a Palm Zire 72 back in 2004 and it has become a vital part of doing business and living life since that time.
I've always synced to Outlook2003 for my Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, & Notes.
When I bought a new laptop with VISTA 64-bit, I had forgotten my previous determination to NOT go with 64-bit. However, the price was too good on a last display model HP and I grabbed it, 64-bit VISTA notwithstanding.
Then I did research here on this forum and I knew I needed a bluetooth adapter that had at least SOME success with VISTA 64, but I didn't read far enough to steer me to the Iogear adapters that seem favored here.
I bought an off brand AZIO from NewEgg after reading of others having some success with this adapter.
I hope my observations can help others, either with these or other brands that may have the same problems.
I already had my MSOffice installed on the HP, and had backed up my full Personal Folders from the old Compaq and then pointed the new installation to a copy of the PST file, which brought over everything including emails to the new PC.
This was probably not the best way to go because I got myself into a pickle because I used the new PC for downloading emails, but I could not sync to this PC with my Palm
I also downloaded the latest PalmDesktop, version 6.2 by Access and installed it to the PC, telling it that I wanted to sync to Outlook for my Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, and some other things I'm unsure of now.
Anyway, once I got the AZIO adapter, I installed it to the PC and tried to address the various issues before trying to sync.
I made sure the name on my PalmZire72 matched the name PalmDesktop used for me.
I checked my Device Manager and it listed my Bluetooth Device (with about 5 line items showing as various Toshiba Bluetooth devices, since the AZIO uses the Toshiba Bluetooth stack for its drivers. There was also a bluetooth radio listed there.)
I tried to setup my devices with the Palm device, turning on Bluetooth, making it discoverable, but I got no Bluetooth option listed when I looked at the possible HotSync methods. I could only choose USB or Network or Serial, but no Bluetooth option.
I selected Serial and tried to use a Port that I could see in Device Manager on the PC under Ports. I tried using all the ports showing as connected to the Toshiba device but none of them allowed a HotSync to work.
I created a port using the Bluetooth Local COM program listed at the bottom of my programs within the Control Panel on the PC. I pointed the Palm Serial Sync to that port but still no luck.
The weird thing was that I KNEW my PC and PALM were talking because they each would discover the other and know the correct name I had given the other device. I knew the Bluetooth device was connecting somehow, but every time I ran the Setup Devices on the PALM bluetooth setup, it would end with the "port being used by other application" message.
I ALSO noted that even though Device Manager knew I had the bluetooth device installed, I NEVER found any such devices listed in the Bluetooth Devices program that I could pull up from either the tray icon or from Control Panel. It would always be empty and I couldn't get it to discover any device on my computer.
I tried various uninstall/reinstalls of both the PalmDesktop and the USB Bluetooth adapter, but nothing changed anything. Each time I could verify that the Palm and the PC would identify the other one by correct name I would assign, but I could never get a device listed in the critical Bluetooth Devices program and HotSync would fail.
FINALLY, after giving up and buying a new Iogear GBU421 WM adapter tonight when I found one at WalMart, I came home and began the battle again.
But I couldn't quite give up on this AZIO without ONE more try at it. I had read about installing Generic drivers in place of the ones given with a device, and I don't even think these were in the same setup as mine, but I wanted to give it a shot. These were on the "Vista 64 Hotsync solution found" thread that has so much info on it. I posted a new thread simply because I hope this specific piece to the puzzle may be found a bit quicker in its own thread.
I went to Device Manager, looked at the various drivers, wondered which one to change first, and decided to change the Bluetooth radio driver first. I don't know why. Lucky guess? :-)
It seems to me it may not have had a Toshiba designation as did the other various ones listed there.
Then I also changed the Toshiba RFCOMM listed, and pointed it to something different. It was guesswork at best, but I was searching for generic drivers.
After this, the other Toshiba Bluetooth devices mostly disappeared from the Device Manager list of Bluetooth devices. It now also divided them into TWO categories, Bluetooth   and   Bluetooth Radios.
Bluetooth only shows a Bluetooth RFCOMM.
Bluetooth Radios shows a Generic Bluetooth Radio   and a  Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator.
None of these shows a red X or other problem mark.
In my Systray, however, I show a normal blue/white icon for Bluetooth Devices and a blue/red icon for Bluetooth Manager.
The Devices window will show my Palm Zire listed with my assigned name.
The Bluetooth Manager window, identified as Bluetooth Settings, shows nothing. No connections are listed and if I click on New Connection, I'm told that "Bluetooth is not ready."
    Nonetheless, I am Hotsyncing successfully!!!
The first try, (after going to generic drivers and thus actually being able to "Pair Devices" via the Bluetooth Devices window) seemed so slow that I may have given up prematurely.
I finally hit "Cancel" on the Palm device, which seemed to hang forever and not be able to get out of that loop, so I forced a shut down via the power off button.
Then I also had to to a Ctrl-Alt-Delete to force the HotSync to shut down on the PC as well.
I did a soft reset of the PalmZire and I restarted the PC after that. The next time I tried to HotSync, it didn't hang on Step 1 (of 12) even though it WAS VERY SLOW. I have a LOT of appointment info etc that I save and there was a lot to have sync for the first time on this PC.
I got a message that this device (the Palm) had synced before on another PC, and did I want to allow this to proceed since it might create lots of duplicates. I chose to let it go ahead. It did create a fair number of duplicate appointments, but mainly on in the repeating appointments type. I just went through these in Outlook and deleted one of each duplicate, deleting the whole series when I did. The next HotSync went very fast, and cleaned all these duplicates up on the Palm as well.
I have not restarted again yet, and I am not sure all is going to remain in place, but I know now that I can probably make it work out. The lack of anything listed in the Bluetooth Settings window on my PC does concern me, but I'm hopeful it won't be an issue. I don't expect to use Bluetooth for anything else, at least for now.
After all the hours I have fussed and read and griped, I am hopeful I have it worked out. I strongly suggest reading the thread mentioned above about HotSync solution found, but in addition to the other factors you have to address, remember to try changing drivers if your bluetooth doesn't work right away. (If it does, consider yourself HIGHLY BLESSED!)
Well, I gotta quit this short novella and go to bed, but I hope this helps someone else manage to set up bluetooth on a 64-bit VISTA system.
How in the world does anything as helpful as a PALM go out of business? It must have taken a lot of concerted effort by management to destroy the future of such a helpful piece of hardware!
Hang in there, Zire; I need you to keep working till a suitable alternative comes along. I doubt it'll be a Crackberry!

Further notes: When I allowed my PC to come back up from a Hibernate state, there was an error message waiting for me that said something like Port 5 is busy; Will wait till port is open" or something like that.
However, the Port I had been using (that I created for HotSyncing) was Port 8, which had worked. I don't know why this happens, but it seems to repeat itself if I do not do a clean boot.
As long as I restart the PC or boot from a shut-down state, my adapter seems fine and Port 8 is available and does work for the HotSync.
It was VERY slow on the first HotSync that had to run MANY procedures and lots of calendar stuff, but now the HotSyncs are SO FAST. Much faster than they were with the USB and Windows XP.
I have now turned my Firewall ON and it does NOT affect the HotSync. (I DID go into the Firewall setup and added Bluetooth Settings, HotSync Manager, and Palm Desktop to the exceptions list to ALLOW these through the Firewall.)
My antivirus program also does not seem to cause any problems for the HotSync, even though it does have to interject itself each time the Outlook data gets accessed. It just verifies that there is no virus activity going on, so it makes a momentary pause as Outlook info is updated.
I also have found that the HotSync runs fine whether Outlook is already open or not.
So far, I'm quite happy things are smoothing out!! Let's hope it continues.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit and Treo 755p

    Hello,
I am wondering if the latest software update will allow me to sync using HotSync and a cable.  When I got my 755 it said that it was not compatible with my new computer that has the 64 bit Vista.  Is this going to be fixed eventually or should I just give up and sync onto another computer with XP?  Thanks.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Verizon)

Obviously this is one of the strangest anti-business responses from a for-profit company I have heard of, but I can't even get the bluetooth workaround to work because as soon as I start to install the setup, it immediately stops and says it was interrupted.  This was a clean install of Windows Vista 64 Business, with no antivirus software running (or even installed yet).  I downloaded the install software yesterday, even tried downloading it again to make sure.  I even tried loading prior versions of it, all to no avail.  They simply will not install saying they got interrupted.  If there is some magic to allow this to work, my wife and I would be quite grateful.  If not, hello blackberry!  Palm is forcing my hand here and running off a loyal customer that has bought one of (almost) every model since the original palm pilot, lo those many years ago.
Does anyone have a solution to the "installation was interrupted" issue on Windows Vista 64 ?

  • Vista 64-bit and Treo 600 Hotsync solution that works!

I too searched many, many forums and sites for a solution to this problem. And I have found it.
I have an HP dv9260 laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Office Pro 2007, which I bought in June this year. And I have been unable to sync my Treo 600 to it - until now. (I had even resorted to syncing to my older Toshiba Tablet PC (WinXP Pro, Office Pro 2003) via standard USB sync cable, connecting the Tablet to the new HP with a Belkin Easy Transfer cable, exporting my updated Contacts, Calendar, and InfoSafe records to .vcf, .ics, and .txt files, then transferring between the HP and Tablet, and then importing them into the appropriate app - Whew! man what a pain.
Now I have found a far more elegant and simple method. I found an Infrared USB 2.0 adaptor (dongle) at the Chunwai_1996 store on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-USB-2-0-IRDA-ADAPER-4Mbps-SUPPORT-VISTA_W0QQitemZ110164766509QQcmdZViewItem) for $8.33 USD + $5.67 USD S&H (total $14.00 even) (I believe that the price is now $12.49 USD + $5.67 S&H.) , which said it supported and supplied drivers for 64-bit Vista. It took a little over two weeks to receive the device from Hong Kong (received yesterday, 08-31-2007).
I checked the mini CD that shipped with it but found no Vista drivers. So I just plugged it into a USB port on the laptop. Vista immediately recognized the dongle and installed generic Vista 64-bit drivers from Microsoft. I tested the unit by placing the Treo near it. The unit recognized the Treo as a legitimate device! Next, I followed the directions I found in another thread that had been successful with USB 2.0, Vista 32-bit drivers, and the Treo 600, with one slight modification. Here is a repost from the Vista-Help.ca blog by Kerry Brown, verbatim except for a couple of modifications and few additional steps.

Palm Treo 600 with Vista and Office 2007
I've had a lot of people ask about how I got my Treo 600 phone to sync with Outlook 2007 in Vista so I thought I'd write up the procedure. Hopefully Palm will have new Vista compatible software soon but in the meantime here's how I got it working on two computers so far. First you have to use Vista x86. I couldn't get it to work with Vista x64. If you've already tried to get it working then you have to clean up all the leftover stuff before continuing.
    1. Uninstall Palm Desktop
    2. Insert the CD that came with the Treo but don't let it autorun.
    3. Navigate to the correct language folder on the Treo CD and right click on setup.exe
    4. Set the compatibilty for XP SP2 and Run as administrator.
    5. Run setup.exe
    6. During the install the initial sync may fail. Just tell the installation to continue.
    7. If you want to sync with Outlook make sure you pick this option during the install
    8. Once it's finished close the Hotsync System Tray application.
    9. In Windows Explorer go to the Palmone folder in Program Files.
    10. Right click hotsync.exe and set it to run in administrator mode with XP SP2 compatibility.
    11. Do the the same for palm.exe.
    12. Start the Palm Desktop and change the Hotsync settings to manual start.
-and- 12a. ******* Check the Infrared option to make it active and available *******
    13. Exit Palm Desktop and reboot.
You should now be able to sync the Treo 600 with Outlook 2007 or Palm Desktop. You will have to manually start the Hotsync application and deal with a uac prompt because it is set to run in administrator mode. The sync only works when Outlook is not running. You also have to sync twice. The first time you will get errors about the default folders for Outlook. Ignore the errors and press the sync button again. If it still doesn't work reboot and try it again. Good luck. Let me know if you find an easier procedure.
    =====================================================
After rebooting the laptop, I performed the following additional steps:
    A. Manually started the Hotsync app (you can put it in the Startup folder to auto load at Startup).
    B. Set the Custom options to "Desktop overrides Handheld" for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes - this may help avoid duplicates from the first Hotsync. Also, this is just a temporary override from the default setting "Synchronize the files" for each selection.
    C. Selected Hotsync on the Treo and enabled the Infrared option.
    D. Pressed the Hotsync 'button' on the Treo and placed it pointing at the Infrared dongle.
The Hotsync ran to completion without errors! Though it did take a good deal longer since it only runs at 115.2 kbps vs. the 480 Mbps of USB 2.0, I am happy.
Hope this helps others with Vista 64-bit systems and Palm OS handhelds.
    Cheers.
