Vista 64-bit Hot Sync and Palm Desktop

Does anyone know when Hot Sync and Desktop will be available for 64-bit Vista?
Thanks, Bob.
Post relates to: Zire 21

At this time there is no ETA on any, if any, cabled solution for syncing palm os devices to Vista/XP 64 bit machines. There is a bluetooth solution that has been stickied to the top of the hotsync board, that is the best solution available at this time.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit Hot Sync w/Zire 71

The Zire 71 is not a wireless unit so I can not sync via Bluetooth.  I tried infra red, and although the PC and the Zire can connect, they can not communicate.  It seems before we can use an infrared sync, we must sync via cable.  But Vista doesn't recognize the Zire when hooked by cable, and Palm has no fix.
Anyone find a fix to this?  I like the Zire and it's perfect for me, but Palm doesn't support hotsync with the new Windows O/S.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Thanks for your input ...
When trying to sync, the IR icon in the PC tray shows communication with a device, but nothing further happens.  After 20 seconds or so the Palm times out and displays an error message ..... Connection with PC failed.
I have the Palm set to local and to IR/PC connection.  The Hotsync connections are set to IR, and USB.  There is not a local selection choice in Hotsync connections.
Any further thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks for taking the time to help.

  • Restore Palm Desktop Addresses from last Hot Sync and using those backup files

I have numerous issues.  First I have Windows Vista 64 byte which does not allow a USB Hot Sync so I attempted the Wireless Hot Sync and killed my Palm Centro.  The information was restores going to the store and they did something.  So that is my first issues - I am unable to Hot Sync.  However the Hot Sync took place and I have found the 'Back-up' files on my Computer from that Hot Sync Operation.
My new issue is that somehow I lost many addresses on my Palm Desktop Address File and that is a mystery to me.
What I am trying to accomplish now is to restore those missing addresses on my Palm Desktop (Computer Files) using if possible those backed up files from the last Hot Sync as i do not believe I should try the Wireless Hot Sync again since that has failed me twice and my phone dies and it needs to be restored at the Sprint store.  I'm not even sure I remember now how exactly that was done....
So, is there a way to restore addresses to my computer Palm Desktop from those back-up files from the Hot Sync?  OR does anyone have a solution to actually performing this Wireless Hot Sync without killing  my Palm Centro again?
Thank you for any ideas or suggestions to either or both issues.

You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.

    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.

I have a Centro/Verizon Wireless using Versamail with accounts established for personal POP and Exchange e-mail synchronization.  The latter account is for work.  Previously I owned a Treo 650p using Versamail.
When I first installed Palm OS Desktop and synched to my Centro device, it was on a Windows XP home computer, and no Versamail accounts were defined.  First I downloaded and installed the Versamail version which allowed Exchange synchronization.  I exported the Treo650p contacts list to a disk file, and imported it onto the Windows XP home computer into the Palm OS Desktop installed with the Centro-supplied CD.  This synched the imported contacts list to the Centro fine.  After I defined all the POP and Exchange accounts, synchronization with the office Exchange contacts list worked fine, and still does.  Synchronization with the windows XP home computer for contacts seems to still be ok, too regardless of the MS Exchange Versamail account commingling with my personal POP accounts.  Maybe the install sequence is overriding the previous posts' notation that MS Exchange mail definition will override synch with Palm OS Desktop?
The problem now is I have a different/second home computer that's Vista os.  I installed the Palm OS Desktop and synch with the Treo.  The contacts list is not synching to this second home computer, maybe because I didn't follow the exact same sequence as for the Windows XP pc?  I can still synch my Centro with my Windows XP pc and that includes contacts.
Is there a way on this second pc to override the MS Exchange contacts override for synchronization without having to go through the exact same install sequence as occurred on the Windows XP machine?

We have a Win XP desktop on which an older version of Palm Desktop has been working for years and been able to sync with my Palm Zire and my husband's Palm Z22.  Now that we have to decomission Win XP desktop have installed Palm Desktop by Access v6.2.2 and Hotsync v7.0.2 on Win 7 32bit laptop.
My husband has a Palm Z22 and has had no problems setting up user and syncing using Palm Desktop by Access when using Windows 7.  However, although the Palm Desktop has correctly indentified by device as a Zire and hotsync via cable says it completes successfully no data appears on the Desktop.  In reverse, when I add a new contact on Palm Desktop and sync it does not appear on the handheld.
Have tried downloading and installing driver from:
    http://aceeca.com/support/sales-support/downloads/product/drivers-32-bit-usb-windows-driver-for-palm...
However, when I followed the instructions provided with teh 64 bit download my laptop said I already had most up to date driver!
Please help as I rely on my Zire and need it to back up successfully.

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The Aceeca drivers are ONLY for 64-bit Operating Systems.  Since yours is 32-bit, it's not needed.
Try right-clicking on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then choose "Run as Administrator".  See if the data appears.
Another suggestion would be to turn off "UAC" or User Access Control.   Control Panel/Users/Turn off UAC.

  • Sync with Outlook 07 on one computer and Palm Desktop on another?

Hi!  Here goes...Can you set up a Palm Centro to sync with one computer with Outlook (07) and another with Palm Desktop?  One computer is at home (Outlook) and the other is my work laptop which does not use Outlook at this point.  I would like to sync regularly with both.  Also....since my work might eventually switch to Outlook - can I change this syncing option at that point and sync with Outlook 03 on one computer and Outlook 07 on another?
    Thanks for all your assitance!

Hello dcusuman and welcome to the Palm forums.
The answer to your questions is yes.  You can sync your Centro to Microsoft Outlook 2007 on your home PC and then sync to Palm Desktop on your work issued computer.  Later on, if your company switches to Microsoft Outlook 2003, you will be able to use a shortcut in your Palm program group to switch the Palm Desktop PIM conduits to the Outlook conduits.
I am going to assume that you are going to be using Palm Desktop 6.2 that comes bundled on the Centro software CD.  If you do, there is no reason to download or install the Outlook 2007 conduit update from the Palm website.  That update is intended for the older Palm Desktop 4.x and HotSync Manager 6.x.

I have a Windows Vista, downloaded Hotsync Manager 7.0.2 and all data (contacts/calendar) from Palm Centro will not appear in Palm Desktop.  I have made sure that:
    1. user name in Hotsync is the same as is in Palm Desktop
    2. tried different user name (suggested "Test" ) with no luck
    3. changed name of device through "prefs" icon (at least, in Bluetooth, Device Name is "Palm Centro") I am unable to find another option to change the name of the device for syncing purposes if it is not through Bluetooth
Any other suggestions?  I have made entries into te Palm Desktop calendar, do a Hotsync and the entries from the Palm Desktop entries are not appearing into the Palm Centro, and the Centro's contacts and calendar entries are not showing up in the Palm Desktop.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreaciated!

Do you have the Centro set to sync with Microsoft Outlook by mistake?  Look in Outlook and see if your info is there.
If it is, you can run a simple program in your Start/All programs/Palm/PIM Conduit Sync/Sync with Palm Desktop to switch it back.

  • Problem Hot Syncing my Palm 105 under OS X 10.4.4

I get the message on the M105: "Your handheld computer & the desktop could not be established ..."
I am connecting the M105 via a USB/Serial cable, which works when I connect it to the USB port on my PC laptop. I have had it connected to the IMAC at start up.
I have installed Palm OS 4.2.1. I decided to try iSync and enabled Isync for the palm. ISync recognized the palm and told me to press the hot sync button on the M105. Before Isync completed, the M105 gave the "non-connection" message above. Isync help info. suggests syncing with Palm Hot Sync manager before using Isync. However, I was unable to do that -- I kept getting the same message on the M105. The Isync log indicates that it connected, but the M105 sure didn't think so, and my address/date info is not in the Palm desktop.
The Missing Sync tool does not list the M105 as being supported.
    What to do?

Your assumption is correct -- that's what I'm trying
to do. The Radio Shack cable goes from serial to USB
and I hook the M105 to that cable and then into the
USB port on the Mac. It does work on the USB port on
the Dell machine. On the Dell, I do the same thing
I'm trying to do on the MAC. I connect the M105 to
the Radio Shack serial to USB cable and hook it into
the USB port. On the Dell laptop, I can also connect
the M105 without the Serial/USB cable to the serial
port on the Dell. Either way it works.
So, if I understand correctly, you're saying I need
to buy the kit from Palm, or if I buy the Keyspan
cable, does it also come with a matching OS X
    driver?
    Doesn't the Palm 4.2.1 Version A Desktop that I
download for OS X come with the matching OS X
driver? When I do the download, it asks me for the
device and for the MAC OS.
    Thanks again
I had presumed that you were indicating that you
intended to synchronize an m105, using its serial
interface, to a Macintosh. A serial to USB
    converter
is required in that case, similar to those
    suggested
above, because your m105 is a serial device and
    your
    Macintosh has no serial port.
The serial to USB converter is a kit, containing
    both
a hardware adapter and a matching OS X driver.
Without both, your m105 cannot communicate with a
    Macintosh through its USB port.
I have now successfully hot synced the Palm 105 under OS X 10.4.4. I purchased a Keyspan 19HS USB Serial Adapter. I tried the installation over the weekend, and it didn't work. I entered E-Mail on their web site to give details but didn't hear back from them. Today (Thurs. 2/9/06), I called their support telephone no. I nice tech support person guided me through downloading a beta version of their software, necessary for OS X10.4.4, and lo and behold, it all worked.
I'm giving these details in case someone else has this problem -- may save you some time.
Thank you to Michael Lafferty for his good advice.

  • Palm Treo 700wx sync with Palm Desktop

Newbie here, so please excuse if this is already in here somewhere!  I've been using Palm Desktop (v4.0.1) syncing with a Sony handheld device (Clie).  The Clie died, and I purchased a used Palm Treo 700wx (Sprint) for both cell phone use and as a PDA.  Darn if I can find anywhere how to sync the Palm Desktop with the Treo 700wx.  Am I missing something somewhere?
Post relates to: Treo 700wx (Sprint)

Hello melemiller and welcome to the Palm forums.
The Treo 700wx, running the Windows Mobile operating system, can only sync to Microsoft Outlook.  You will need export the data out of the Sony edition of Palm Desktop and import it into Outlook and then install the Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 software on your computer to sync the Treo to Outlook.  If you are using Windows Vista, you need to use the Windows Mobile Device Center that is included as part of Vista to sync with Outlook.

  • Reinstall WinXP and Palm Desktop - Don't Want to Lose Data ??

Hi - searched for this in the forum, but didn't find any answers to my particular situation.  Just need to make absolutely certain I don't lose anything.
Had to perform a format/reinstall of XP in December.  All up-to-date with service packs, etc.
Now need to reinstall all my Palm stuff.
I have all the files from my pre-format stored in a massive hard drive backup on a separate drive.
My Centro is up-to-date as of December right before re-install; I have added some additional contacts/appts in the Centro since then.
I have added some other data in Outlook 2003.
Now, after I install the Palm desktop:
How would I perform my first hot-sync?
How do I get all my programs etc. back?  They are on the Centro right now - I don't want to lose them.  Some don't need to sync with computer and some do.  I can't afford to lose the data in these programs.  Will syncing with the phone (overwriting the desktop) allow my programs to stay the way they are on the Centro right now?
Do I need to do something with the backup I made?  Is it even useful?
Thanks in advance, and let me know if I'm not making sense.

    Hello!
Fresh reinstall of Windows and Palm Desktop?  If so then all you need to do is plug the cable into the phone and hit the black button.  Palm Desktop will prompt create new user, just hit yes and your all set!  The hotsync process auto does a handheld overwrite sync style for this inital process.  If you already created the username in Palm Desktop that is the same as the Centro and have not yet hotsynced, rename that user to whatever and then do that sync.

  • Memos go away after sync with palm desktop

I did the one time sync between my palm Pre Plus and palm desktop.  After powering off the Pre, the imported memos no longer exist.  In fact when you go to the memos there is no option to add a new memo.  All you see is a cork board with stick pins in it.  No option to do anything and no memos appear.
Post relates to: Pre Plus p100ueu (SFR)

I would advise you NEVER use the Memo file in the Palm Pre!
The reason is that after a time you might (like me) end up with 500 or more of these Memos, BUT:
You can NEVER extract them again!
There is NO function at all offered by Palm to extract your Memos from the Palm Pre: Once they are in the Pre you can never get them out again!!
I have just discovered this direct from the Palm chat line itself. The agent was embarrassed to tell me this..
Thus if you decide to move from a Palm Pre of any updated description to another manufacturer, you can wave goodbye to all your memos.

  • Why can't I sync my Palm Desktop with iCal?

When I enable iSync for my Palm (Tungsten E2, Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev.D) it disables the conduits I need to sync my Palm Desktop calendar information (Date Book, Tasks, To Do, etc.) with anything else. So when I make a change on Palm Desktop it doesn't even show up on the Palm handheld, much less on iCal. Can I move these "iSync Disabled Conduits" (Date Book, Tasks, To Do, etc.) back into the "Conduits" folder without creating a conflict? I've tried various solutions on the Mac Support site without much luck so far. Does this problem have something to do with OS 10.4's unique issues with syncing? Or is iCal supposed to REPLACE Palm Desktop, not be synced with it?

    Hello kongoscar,
If you are making the jump from Windows to Mac, it might be easier for you to export your data from the Windows side using a comma separated values (.csv) file and importing that data into the PIM application on the Mac.  The Palm Desktop software for the Mac, is, in my opinion, terrible (and I'm a Mac user).
    Alan G
Thanks so much for your reply, Alan G. I am not planning on using the Palm Desktop for the Mac once I get all the data from my Palm into the Macs. I am going to use the Mac software, like iCal and contacts, and probably Bento3 in place of the Palm Memos database, and I HOPE (not sure whether I will like it or not) to use my iPhone in place of the Palm, but I am not yet ready to ditch the Palm until I satisfy myself that the iPhone can do all the calendar and personal database functions as well as what I am used to with the Palm. So this data transfer quandary is not really about transferring the data to the Mac so I can continue to use my Palm and Palm Desktop software as I always have - it is about getting it to the Mac in a way that I can easily then export/import the data into iCal, Address Book/Contacts, and Notes or Bento3. My assumption is that would be easier doing imports from Palm Desktop on the Mac rather than imports from the PC, but maybe that is wrong. For instance, if I do an export from the PC of the Palm's calendar function  and import that into iCal on the iMac, will all the alarms and repeating copies of entries also make it over? Or would the alarms and repeaters more likely make it into an import into iCal if it came from data that was already on the Mac in Palm Desktop for the Mac? It odes seem that the Palm software for the Mac is not as good as it is for the PC, that Mac OSX does not support the Palm as well as earlier versions of Mac OS, and that there are all these problems with syncing on the Mac, from what I've read on the forums.
Given my admittedly rambling description above, do you have any other advice for me?

  • Synching Zire 31 with both Outlook 2003 and Palm Desktop

I use Outlook at work but not at home so I synch my Zire 31 with Palm Desktop at home.  It works fine synching with both.  I like the Memos and Tasks features better on Palm Desktop, so I would like to use them at work. I'd like my Zire to Synch at work with Outlook for some features (i.e. Contacts and Calendar) but with Palm Desktop for others (i.e. Memos and Tasks).
When I use the setup CD, it asks if I want to synch with "Palm Desktop" or with "Outlook and Palm Desktop".  Based on this, it sounds like I should be able to choose the 2nd one and synch with Outlook and Palm Desktop, but I can't get it to do that.  When I choose that option and then go into Custom for synch setup, the only options there are for Outlook.  How can I get it use Palm for Memos and Tasks?

Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums.  What it is asking is, for Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos do you want them to sync with palm desktop OR outlook?   Its all four or nothing.  When it is both what it means is if you sync with outlook, calendar, contacts, tasks and memos will sync to outlook all others, media, all your settings etc will go to palm desktop.  The main 4 can NOT be seperated its all or nothing.

  • Help! Can I sync my Palm Desktop with Outlook Web Access?? I'm using a T5 -- NOT wireless, but cable-synced

I have spent the last 3+ weeks trying to get my Palm Desktop information to sync with an Outlook Web Access account.
I have been able to sync my Palm Desktop info with Outlook 2007, and I have been able to acess an Outlook Web Access account through a microsoft exchange server.
BUT, when I talk with tech support.... I get several conflicting answers.  One tech says it should be easily possible; one says I need to buy another monthly service; one says it is impossible and I should just buy a Blackberry.
At this point.... I'm not sure I actually care what the answer is, but I would just like a definitive answer....
    I have a Palm Tungsten T5.
I want to sync that Contact and Calendar information regularly with an Outlook Web Access account so that my colleagues can see and edit my schedule as needed.... then the info would sync BACK to my Palm so that I can have my current schedule with me.
Can anyone shed some light on this please??
    Thank you!
    Emily Koenig
    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

    The short answer is no.
The t-5 has the ability to connect to an exchange server but the version of versamail it has would only sync mail and calendar. You would have to have a wifi card to be able to do even that. To do what you would want you would need to upgrade the versamail client (I don't believe Palm has an upgrade for the T-5) and a wifi card.
