Vista 64 bit OS and iTunes

I am getting an error message when initializing iTunes.
iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CD's
you need to reinstall iTunes.
I uninstalled, cleaned the reg, and reloaded a few times.
Diagnostic DVD/CD test results "Upper Filter Status Failed" (no CD Rom Driver found)
All seems to be working ok otherwise and CD's seem to be importing OK

iTunes doesn't officially support 64 bit Windows and the 64 bit Gear drivers you need for burning arn't supplied. You can download them from here:
http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm
A number of people also had problems with the creation of the CD configuration folder, but as your iTunes is working, I guess that doesn't apply to you.

I'd like to doublecheck the malware possibilities with another malware scanner.
Try downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hour on my Lenovo.)

Does the scan find any infections? If so, please paste the contents of the log file for the scan in a reply here so we can have a look.

  • Vista 64bit t and itunes 7.5

I just installed Itunes 7.5 on my windows vista 64bit machine. The software loaded fine but the cd burning function doesn't work. Anyone have a solution to this problem? I know that Itunes 7.5 is not a vista 64 bit piece of software. Notwithstanding this fact, it is working fine except for the cd burning function.

This forum is for troubleshooting compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, not iTunes.
You'll probably want to repost your question in the iTunes for Windows disussions:

  • Windows Vista, Ipod Connectivity and Itunes 7.1

    Hi,
I was going to buy windows vista but my friend informed my that Windows vista and itures creates some connectivy problems with the ipod.
I was just wondering if this is/was true ?
If it is/was true, has then recently new I-tunes 7.1 update fixed that problem, or should i wait for the next update before buying vista ?
    many thanks

I have a new Dell with Vista pre-installed & the ONLY thing not working properly is my iPod. iTunes 7.1 works fine. My songs are there, I can play & download without issue. And I really like the iTunes gadget on the sidebar (although it's certainly a live-without item that's not needed). However, I am currently unable to sync my iPod. It hasn't been able to sync since I got the new system. I have run every diagnostic possible & it still won't sync. I am tempted to restore & see if that will help but frankly I am unwilling to lose the 5000 songs that're already on it without being sure that it will take them back. So... I'm at an impasse. However, the rest of my software all works faster, cleaner- a great improvement over my old system although I understand that I am the exception not the rule. I happen to like my Vista a lot, other than that ONE bug which I'm sure will be fixed soon.

  • Windows Vista Movie Maker and Itunes Music

I am asking for help and apologize if I am in the wrong area - we just purchased a computer and I need some help - we have an HP that came w/ Windows Vista. I am trying to make a movie on Windows Movie Maker and tried to import a song from Itunes that I purchased and it keeps coming up w/ an error about my system not having the codec. I have no idea what this means and need to know if I am doing something wrong. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated-I am trying to make a movie w/ my all my daughters pictures-she will be 1 this month-I know TMI, sorry. Thank you again

Well, there are two problems probably:
    1. I'm not sure if Windows Movie Maker can use AAC format files, and all of the files you download through iTunes are in AAC format.
    2. Even if Windows Movie Maker can use AAC format files (which I doubt it can), the AAC files through iTunes are DRM-encoded, which means they have copywrite protection which prevents their use outside of a specific set of iPods/iTunes.
If you want to use that particular song in your movie, it would be best to either find a source that is not copy-protected to download it from (notice I didn't suggest downloading it illegally ;>), or ... you can buy a CD with that song on it, and then rip it to MP3 to import into Windows Movie Maker.

  • 64-Bit Vista and iTunes 8

    Hi!
Just a simple question: I have 64-Bit Vista Home Premium. I downloaded the 64-Bit version of iTunes, and when I choose to install it says that it will install into the x86 Program Files folder (64 Bit Vista is backwards compatible with 32-Bit programs). This might seem like an odd question, but do you think that I should install it into the 64-Bit Program Files folder? I just don't want anything going wrong, as I just got this computer a few days ago
    Thanks!

You'll find this has been an question from others ever since Apple put out the 64-bit version. [This thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8115760] gives you some background.
Apple's vista 64-bit version of iTunes seems to be a partial 64-bit version of unown degree. It does work fine though.

  • I have 64 bit windows 7- and itunes version 10.6.1.7. yet i cannot connect to the store- anbody can help?

i have 64 bit windows 7- and itunes version 10.6.1.7. yet i cannot connect to the itunes store.  do i need to download something additional?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Windows Vista and iTunes does not work

First Time sorry for my bad English, I'm from Germany and my English is not the best.
I have the new Windows Vista but iTunes does not work good.
And I have to use it, to manage my music on my iPod.
When there will be a Vista compatibles Version of iTunes??
And when will come an 64-Bit Version?
    Thanks for Help,
    Karsten

iTunes running under VISTA does not recognize media burned by iTunes Backup (v7.0.2) from a non-Vista machine.
The original machine recognizes the media just fine, but the new VISTA machine does not recognize the dvd at all.
Anyone else having a problem with VISTA recognizing burnt media?

  • In Windows Vista business 64 bits...Itunes can't load data information class...

Can't sync Iphone 4 with Itunes versión 10.7.0.21, in Windows Vista business 64 bits. Already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and also finding sqlite3.dll and the other dll... and nothing. Renamed the sycservices folder and nothing, copied corefoundations.dll and folder to system32 and nothing...
This is becoming very annoying... any tips?.
    Thanks.

    Hi!,
Thanks for your reply but I keep having the problem. I've been investigation through the Internet and I beleive is a COM situation or something is in conflict with iTunes, either way I manage to compare a similar environment (Win Vista 64 bits Business with iTunes running) and figured out that process "Syncserver.exe" is not running and neither is running "ATH.exe".
I'm reading more about what could possible causing these two process from being executing as they should.
        Thanks.

There is no version of iTunes that truly supports the 64-bit version of Windows XP and never will be. If you search this forum for "XP 64" or do a web search for something like "iTunes Windows XP 64",  you'll find threads describing the process some people have used to "crowbar" iTunes onto XP 64, with varying levels of success, none of them complete.

  • Problem with the new 64-bit edition of iTunes -- Windows Vista Ultimate

Very recently, I upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit to the 64-bit edition. I also downloaded the 64-bit edition of the Windows-based iTunes.
My individual iTunes music files were stored on a separate internal hard drive that was never a part of the upgrade overhaul (C: drive was upgraded to the 64-bit edition; my iTunes files are located on the D: drive).
After opening iTunes, I immediately went to Edit > Preferences > Advanced (tab) and changed the "iTunes Music folder location." I located my iTunes folder on the D: drive and clicked "Select Folder."
Unfortunately, nothing happened. Meaning, iTunes does not recognize any of the files located within this iTunes folder. This is the exact same iTunes folder that I used under the 32-bit edition of the OS.
I have nearly 50 GB of music files, none of which are now part of my music file library.
    What's going on?

If the songs are not tagged correctly (title, album, artist at a minimum), they will go into Unknown.
If they are tagged correctly, go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced and uncheck *Keep iTunes music folder organized* then close the prefs.
Re-open prefs and recheck *Keep iTunes music folder organized*.
All my music was imported from CDs using iTunes.
After unchecking "Keep iTunes music folder organized" it doesn't make any difference. Virtually everything is in "Unknown."
I can't believe this..... it's like iTunes doesn't recognize its previous handywork.
    Very frustrating!
If anyone know a way to quickly clear this up, let me know.

  • I got a new acer pc with Win7 64-bit and itunes download won't open, it says 'This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid win'

I've tried to download Itunes and itunes for 64-bit using mozilla firefox and internet explorer, even deleted the browsing history and closed and tried to dowload again and tried download quicktime separately, but nothing seems to work.

Try right clicking on the installer and select run as administrator.

  • I  have a problem with the synchronisation of my iPhone and iPad with Outlook 2007 on my 64-bit Windows 7  PC. For several years, I have had no problems with the synchronisation by cord connection and iTunes between these programmes. However, a few months

I  have a problem with the synchronisation of my iPhone and iPad with Outlook 2007 on my 64-bit Windows 7  PC. For several years,
I have had no problems with the synchronisation by cord connection and iTunes between these programmes. However, a few months ago I decided to use Mobile Me. However, there were problems with duplication of calendars and then “rogue events” – which could not be deleted – even if deleted on Outlook and on the iPhone (or both at the same time) – they would just reappear after the next synchronisation.  All other synchronisation areas (eg Contacts, Notes etc) work fine.
I have looked for help through the Apple Support Community and tried many things.  I have repaired my Outlook. I have repaired my .pst file in Windows. I have re-installed the latest version of iTunes on my PC. I have re-installed the firmware on my iPhone. I have tried many permutations on my iPhone. I have closed down all Mobile Me functions on the iPhone. I have spent upwards of 24 hours trying to solve this problem.
What am I left with? Outlook works seamlessly on my PC. My iPhone calendar now has no events from  my calendar, but does not synchronise through iTunes. Nor does it send events initiated on the iPhone to the Outlook. I am at the point of abandoning iPhones and iPads altogether.  I need to have a properly synchronising calendar on my phone.  Do you have any suggestions?

In the control panel goto the "Lenovo - Power Manager" and click the battery tab, there is a maintenance button in there that will let you change the charging profile for your battery.   (from memory, so exact wording may be off)
The lower the numbers you use there, the longer the battery *should* last.    These batteries degrade faster at higher charge levels, however storing them at too low of levels is also not good for them... I've read that 40% is optimal, but just not realistic if you use your computer.

  • Itunes 8.1.1.10 + vista = strange delays and high cpu

I had this problem with 8.1 originally, but hoped it would fix itself with an upgrade it does not. I'm running a Dell Studio 1535 with Intel core 2 duo CPU [email protected] and 4GB ram. This machine has always been fairly zippy. It's running AVG + ZoneAlarm and it's free of virii.
iTunes is very unresponsive. Taking several (up to 6) seconds to respond to commands. Those would be clicking a new song*, asking for one of the pulldown menu items, scrolling in coverview, etc. I looked at the task manager and I noticed that when iTunes is idle, just in the forground with the focus, it burns almost one complete cpu. The cpu runs for several seconds, takes a sharp dip and returns almost immediately back to almost 100%. I have a screenshot, but I don't think I can post it. I'm not talking about playing any music or anything. The rest of the computer is basically idle, but iTunes is cranking CPU for no apparent reason.
Is anyone else having this problem? does anyone have any suggestions? I've had lots of problems with vista and itunes in the past, but this is too much. I'm really frustrated.
    Thanks
    Matt
    * When I say clicking a new song, I'm not talking about changing from one song to another. I'm simply trying to hilight a song and then select another one. It also takes forever to start or stop music playing.

I just got off the phone with Apple Support. We did a long set of disabling/enabling services and start up programs and have isolated this problem to my fingerprint reader.
Here is the support article that shows to to check for conflicts in vista.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292?viewlocale=en_US
As a temporary work around I have disabled the startup item "DigitalPersona Personal" and the services item "Biometric Authentication Service" both by DigitalPersona, Inc.
This disables my fingerprint reader but fixes the slowness in iTunes. I will contact DigitalPersona and see if they have updates to their software.
