Vista 64-bits & Ovi Suite or PC Suite - Windows M...

I did a lot of Googling and checked the FAQs, even searched this forum, but not much info to find.
When I install either Ovisuite OR PC Suite on my Vista 64 Home Premium machine with all
patches etc. installed, Windows Media Player get somehow corrupted.
If you run it it complains that it stopped working.
This is with a XpressMusic 5800 phone via USB.
I have some suspicion it has to do with a faulty (MTP ????) driver.
Whether the phone is connected or not-connected doesn't seem to matter.
One thing that looks strange to me is that in the Computer view, you see two 5800 XM icons, both
to access the phone's internal memory and the flash card.
Any idea ?
On my XP laptop I've never seen issues with WMP11 and PCSuite (7.1.18).

THIS IS A 3RD PARTY METHOD AND OF COURSE THERE IS NO SUPPORT !!!
BEFORE YOU PROCEED PLEASE UNISTALL EVERYTHING AND USE DRIVERSWEEPER OR DRIVERCLEANER TO CLEAN YOUR REGISTRY TOO !!!
Ok here's a new alternative way that new driver will work 100% both XP and Vista (32/64)
install the 2007 suite (please do custom and do not install the audio drivers except everything else)

http://rapidshare.com/files/09770659/2007Suite-PAX.part6.rar
(please burn the suite on a CD or DVD)(some applications have been moddified from the original 2007suite-pax, please re-download the suite!!!)
Ok after the installation of suite is finished do not restart your PC and install the following drivers:
http://rapidshare.com/files/09755063/SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_5_0006_FX.rar
Now you can restart the PC. Tested with all versions of windows (Windows XP / Vista both 32 and 64 bit !!!)
Master Volume works, remote control works too... CHECK IT OUT

  • E72 / Win7 64-bit Ovi Suite - MTP USB device drive...

Just installed Ovi Suite (most recent version) on Windows 7 64-bit for my E72.
Windows installs all drivers, however 'MTP USB device ' driver fails to install.
What does this driver do ? And can this be solved ?

    I am running OVI 2.2.0.245 on 64 bit W7 and Office 2007 and using a 5800ExpreMusic..
I have experienced all the problems mentioned above. After 2 days of try and error end nearly getting crazy I found a solution at least for my situation. However I can imagine many more people are maybe in the same situation.
At first I had been using the USB ports in front of the machine's cabinet. None of them worked for a longer period than 3 minutes and I always lost the connection to the mapserver. Until I found out that each two ports in front of the cabinet share the capacity of a single USB connection at the back of the system. So I moved the USB from one of the front ports the a back port. Now that the full Capacity of a USB port can be used I no longer suffer any problems with OVI.
    It works great.
However it is a shame Nokia users must find out what Nokia could have told its users.

  • Linux tethering requires Ovi Suite (Windows) conne...

I started a thread here a few weeks ago about tethering my E73 to a wired/wireless router, to give broadband Internet to computer OS's that lack the right USB modem driver.  I'm still working on that, and only recently got the E73 to work with Ubuntu Linux at all.  Linux would see the phone and create a ttyACM0 device, but the phone always refused to respond to modem commands.  I fought with it for over a week...until I installed Windows XP and tried connecting with Ovi Suite.  This worked on the first try.  The next day I returned to Ubuntu, which now was suddenly able to connect effortlessly  as well.  The only explanation I have is that the E73 needed Ovi Suite to install a driver on the phone or flip a hidden switch to enable tethering.  Is anyone else familiar with this phenomenon?  I suppose I could hard reset my phone to know for sure...but it's new and I really don't want to do that.
    Any thoughts?

I never had any such problem with other Nokia devices (6280, N73, N95, N96, 5800XP, E72). I suspect you were missing an init command of sorts somewhere that is issued by OVI Suite.
I had reasonable success with this secomdary init string (issued after ATZ and the ensuing OK response):
    AT+CGDCONT =1,"IP","xxxxxxx"
where xxxxxxx is the APN of the access point you want to connect to.

  • My Ovi suite windows are the wrong size

Hello I hope someone can help. When I sync my phone with ovi suite there are certain things I can't do because the windows that appear are too small to click on the 'update' button.
For instance, when I first log on, the button that says 'sync now' is in a window in the middle of the screen but the button is three quarters cut off. Fortunately I can click on it and perform the action. But when I try to get software updates, the window is again not sized correctly so that I can't click on the button which allows me to get application updates.
I have had this issue with certain websites in the past and it is solved by fiddling with the view parameters in the browser, but I can't see why it's happening with ovi suite.
I am using the latest ovi suite with Windows 7.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The issue of the window size not being remembered is purely app specific, Ovi suite ALWAYS opens the same window size when it starts, no mattter what it was before.
It also has nothing to do with the OS and screen resolution, (we run OVi SUite at work on various OSes and configurations), but only with the developers who are either to lazy or too incompetent to write the few lines of code required to remember window size,

  • Ovi Suite 2.0 - Tasks and Calendar Sync doesn't wo...

Since updated Nokia Ovi Suite to the final version and tried to Sync my Tasks and Calendar, the new Ovi Suite made a mess in all my tasks entries. It doubled most of them an also tripled some. Tried to clear all my tasks from Outlook and rebuilt them, then cleared all the phone tasks as well and then re-synced again...and guess what a big mess again. What a pain...I had to rebuild all my tasks for the second time and stop using the OVI Suite for syncing.
Had no problems with the beta versions, all worked fine.
It is also a huge inconvenience that you can't see a log of what was synced after a sync session has finished (as you can with Nokia PC Suite) and also no Calendar in Ovi Suite (if I remember correctly it was a Calendar in the first beta version and you were able to see the differences between the phone and the system. Now this option is only available for Photos, Messages, Contacts, Music, Maps -  but not Calendar).
My conclusion is that the new Ovi Suite does looks nice, but the functionality is disappointing.

  • E71x, Ovi Suite 3.0.0, and Outlook 2010 Contact Sy...

I was unsure whether to post this here, or in the E-Series Forums - I believe this is primarily an Ovi issue, though.
I've had this e71x for about four months now. In all that time, I still have yet to find a lasting solution to my contact sync problems. It's always been something - device recognition, drivers, software updates... just name it.
When Ovi 3.0. was released, I thought, 'Maybe this update will resolve the problems, finally'. Well, It did - for maybe two syncs. Then we were back to errors. Specifically, error code '8004fd02' (see attachment).
That's what I see every time I try to contact sync. It seems to be a problem with the online Ovi, because every time I sync via the Suite, then check Ovi.com, I have a stack of seemingly duplicated contacts. And I don't mean the same person, listed a couple times, with slightly varying detail labels: I mean the exact same entry, repeated half a dozen times, but only in Ovi.com. The only pattern concerning which ones get duplicated, as far as I can tell, is a recent update. Everywhere else my address book is, by and large, updated accurately, although Ovi and Outlook do seem to occasionally diagree on semantics.
That's about the gist of it, at the moment *crosses fingers*. I just need to straighten that out so I don't have a dozen or more extra contacts to delete online and on my phone each sync. The Suite is consistently recognizing my phone though, so that's progress...

P.S. I don't need to hear for the umpteenth time about 'unplugging and reattaching the phone', or 'checking for software updates', or 'making sure I have the drivers installed'. I've had plenty of time to check the basics by now -

  • PC/OVI SUITE INSTALLTION

Using windows vista. Installed Ovi suite from disc supplied with N85 phone. Then tried to update it from Nokia web site. Installation not commpleted. Getting interactive services message which says The Nokia Multimedia Common Component cannot be uninstalled because it is required for Nokia Music. I have tried to uninstall all the Nokia software but it wil not let me as it says there is there is an ongoing unistallation process in progress. I tried to down load PC suitre cleaner but this will not run.
Anyone go some advice on this.

    Hi andy16,
Sorry for that ..... CC Cleaner is one of the third party registry cleaner for your PCs.  Care has to be taken while using it.  ITS ON YOUR OWN RISK   You can use any reliable pc registry cleaner, but make sure that you have taken a backup of your pc registries.  As i mentioned earlier, its on your own risk, it may/may not affect your pc registries.

  • Ovi Suite hangs on sync

Hello, I just bought a Nokia N8 and wanted to sync with Outlook. The first time it worked, but after removing the phone and reconnecting the sync hangs at different stages. Sometimes in the preparation stage "Synchronisation wird vorbereitet", sometimes during sync. There is no error message, why it hangs. After deinstalling and removing any phone specific drivers from device panel I reinstalled the Ovi suite. First sync worked, second not. In my opinion, regular reinstallation for every sync is no option. Any other ideas? Windows 7 pro 64 bit, Ovi suite 3.0.0.290, Outlook 2003.

    Hi,
    N8
    Win7 x64
    Ovi 3.0.0.290
I have exact same problem as OP.
I spent 4 hours this morning attempting to sync contacts, which I eventually managed to do.
I am now trying to sync Calendar & Tasks, but having no luck.  Ovi always hangs with one of two possible status messages (both of which were originally described by OP).
    Either:
    ...or...
I have tried all suggestions put forward by mahayv in this thread, up to and including deletion of the MDataStore.db3 file.  BTW, deleting this file did not make Ovi Suite lose all contacts, messages etc., as mahayv indicated it would.
When Ovi hangs on Sync, and I attempt to cancel, it then hangs again with the following message:
After I then shut down Ovi, using File > Exit, both the program window and notification area green "Ovi" icon disappear, but two processes are still running (namely: NokiaOviSuite.exe and nokiaaserver.exe).  These processes must be manually terminated before Ovi Suite can be successfully restarted.  If I do not manually terminate these processes and try to restart Ovi Suite, then what happens is I get multiple copies of these processes appearing in task manager, but no Ovi Suite window will ever appear.
Bottom line: Ovi Suite is not behaving remotely as it should.
I have tried many possible solutions, suggested both here and in other threads and forums.  These include:
    Reinstalling Ovi Suite
    Repairing Nokia connectivity cable driver
    Reinstalling Nokia connectivity cable driver
"Repair Sync" option within Ovi Suite
Uninstalling ALL Nokia software and reinstalling
Restoring a C drive backup I took about a week ago (i.e. before all this started) thus giving me a "clean slate" from which to try again
I sincerely hope this issue is being taken seriously, as from my various net wanderings it looks like many people are having connectivity issues with Ovi Suite.  FWIW, I get the impression that the common factor is Windows 7 x64.
As people have mentioned previously, Ovi Suite is a big let-down at the moment.  I really like my N8, but the longer I am without calendar sync, the bigger a problem this is going to become.
Thanks mahayv for helping out so far - I really hope we can get to the bottom of this.

  • OVI Suite crashed during contacts syncing

When it is syncing contacts, it crashed without any error messages.
    What is going on??
    I'm using Windows 7 64-bit
    OVI Suite Version: 3.0.0.282
    Phone Model: 5800XM
It also failed in syncing photos, it said [Photo not synced]
There was a problem with syncing your Photos. Try restarting your device and computer. If the problem persists, check if there is a new version of Nokia OVI Suite available. If not, try updating your device software.
I have done all of the above and still cant sync.

I too am having a crash when contacts are syncing using Ovi Suite 3.0.0.284 (latest) connecting to an E55.
Edit: After retrying repeatedly, contacts have synced without crashing (without changing the software or the data to be synced).

  • E5: Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device...

I am trying to update the software on my E5 using OVI suite but I keep getting an error during the install phase (after backup). The following error and instructions are displayed in the OVI suite window but makes no difference when I follow these instructions (just end up back with the same error).
"Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device. Follow these steps to help reconnect your device:
    1. Remove USB cable from your device.
    2. Restart the device (turn off and on again).
    3. Re-insert the USB cable.
    4. Click 'Ok' below to continue updating."
Current E5 software version is 042.007.
I am trying to update to E5 software v. 043.115
    Any ideas?

Yep having the same issue. Just got a replacement handset due to the random restarting issue, soon after setting up the new handset I get a message on phone saying software update is available. Both OVI suite and Nokia software updater say version 43.115 is available (about 200mb in size), I currently have the same version as you 42.007. It claims to do a lot of improvements to the handset. The update downloads fine but when it comes to installing I keep getting the same issue. Phone simply will not restart automatically and the update restarts then fails at the same point over and over. Had the same problem with my previous handset.
I spoke with my network provider to see if it was an issue with the handset needing firmware specific to them but they said no it is an issue with the firmware itself and has been happening to everyone since its release!!! They said I should not download it until Nokia has resolved the issues with it. But how do I know when that will happen as I cannot find anything put out by Nokia stating there is an issue or anywhere on web forums saying there is actually a problem.

  • OVI Suite 3 no window controls

I just got prompted to upgrade from OVI suite 2.2 something to the new version 3.  Upon doing that my Ovi Suite window has no Microsoft window controls.  I have to use the ovi icon down on the task bar to close the program.  Is this by design?  How do I restore the window controls?

Could you please attach a screenshot? I am sorry i could not understand the exact problem.

  • C7 OVI Suite and Windows 7 Home 64bit - no way to ...

Hello everybody, I've just bought my C7 smartphone and I'm trying to synchronize my Outlook contacts.
I've installed Ovi Suite and tried to connect C7 via USB and bluetooth. It seems it doesn't recognize the connection properly. in fact, Ovi Suite shows the message: "the device is not in USB PC Suite mode. try to disconnect and reconnect the device". Checking my C7, it automatically selects the Nokia Ovi Suite connection (so, it should work properly!).
    Some tips:
    - the Ovi Suite window shows the generic "Nokia Device", it seems it doesn't recognize C7.
    - I tried also with Microsoft XP 32bit and everything works fine.
It seems to me maybe there's a problem with Windows7 Home - 64bit?
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks

    Could you please try this?
    1. Unplug the phone from your computer.
    2. Uninstall all Nokia related applications. These applications include Nokia OVI / PC Suite, Nokia Cable Drivers, and PC Connectivity solution.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. This step is necessary only in a few cases. If you do not have one already, install a registry cleaning application. My recommendation is CCleaner along with Registry Mechanic. Clean your registry using these applications.
    5. Restart your computer.
    6. Install Nokia OVI Suite or PC Suite, whichever is your preference. Make sure that you have the latest setup file.
    7. Download the Nokia Cable Drivers setup files from your region’s official Nokia website.
    8. Install the Nokia Cable Drivers setup file.
    9. Restart your computer.
    10. Plug in your phone and wait while its drivers are installed by Windows.
    11. Restart your computer.
    12. Run Nokia OVI / PC Suite. Your phone will now be detected by the application.
Hopefully it will help you to solve your problem

  • Ovi Suite main window opening automatically.

Every time I take my laptop off standby, the main window of Ovi Suite opens on the desktop. How do I prevent this? There doesn't seem to be a choice in the options menu.
To confirm, I am happy for Ovi Suite to be running in the background all the time, but I don't wish the main window to open.

Please make it stop, it is annoying as hell. I have bluetooth enabled on my phone in order to use handsfree in my car, and every time when I resume my computer from standby it finds the phone and opens the Ovi Suite window.
I don't want to use your software every time I touch my computer, I have to say I find it very arrogant to assume I want to use your software all the time. If every software producer worked this way, all programs would run automatically each time you resume your computer -- because what if you want to use them?
Until this problem is solved (and until Ovi Suite stops consuming 300 MB of memory) I will have to return to the old PC Suite. Ovi Suite looks nicer, but these issues are a deal breaker for me.
