You should not have to activate the factory preload OS. Maybe you should try a factory restore using the Thinkvantage button at system startup.

• Windows Vista Activation Error KB948465 - Best Fix?

I have had a Dell Inspiron Desktop 530 S since 2009, it came preinstalled and activated with Windows Vista SP2. In 2011, the hard drive developed a problem and working with Dell, we reinstalled the OS. I have been running without any issues since
then, and just this past Sunday, April 19th, 2015 when I booted up in the morinng, I got a black screen, and a notification in the lower right corner = "Windows Vista (TM), Build 6002, This copy of Windows is not Genuine".
I had made no software or hardware changes, to precipitate this, though I did see two windows updates had occurred the day before. I have had Dell attempt to resolve this issue and they could not, I have had 1st and 2nd Tier at Microsoft try, including
replacing the OEM SLP with the COA SLP from the placard on my computer via telephone IVR. An MS technician did the telephone activation for me. All efforts by MS or Dell have left me getting error "0XC004E003" when attempting to activate
the OS using the product key from the placard on my computer. That error I understand indicates a problem accessing or reading the SLIC table in the BIOS. MS insists my only solution is to reinstall the OS from my diskette and then of course resinstall
all software, etc., and I am looking for a better solution.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

• Vista activation issue

I have a T-61 6465 CTO with Windows Vista Ultimate (OEM). Something became corrupted and I contacted Lenovo and Microsoft about this issue. MS provided a replacement disc to fix the issue. I loaded it and it asked for the product key which I used from the sticker on the bottom of the computer. It would not activate and thus did the numerous Microsoft remedies, to no avail. Thus I reset it for yet another 30 days. MS suggested contacting Lenovo as original Vista Ultimate was an OEM. I could don't obtain the support from Lenovo as I had expected. Any thoughts of how can I obtain a Vista Ultimate Product Key?

I appreciate your information. It appears that MS says it is Lenovo issue and Lenovo says it is a MS issue... Quite circular and time consuming. To clarify: When I purchased my T61 it had Vista on it. I elected to downgrade to XP and did so. I recently decided to give the Vista a Try as some things were not compatible with my XP. I reformatted and installed the Original OEM Vista. It was fine for a few weeks then problems. Lenovo would not assist as it was out of warranty, but MS helped and offered this option: I understand that the issue persists and you intend to do Clean Installation to fix the current issue. As an end-user myself, I can understand this is a time-consuming process. On the other hand, this is also a quick way to resolve the issue. Sometimes, when we have several issues at one time, it is very likely that some core components are corrupted. In this situation, a clean installation can help refresh the whole system and clear the unnecessary or corrupted information. I believe the system performance should improve as well. ....MS offered: that this issue can be resolved as soon as possible and the system can work perfectly. MS Technical support would like to to order a Vista Installation DVD with the legitimate Product Key for you free of charge to reinstall Vista. I obtained this, loaded it and attempted to activate, but it would not take my Key. I called MS and Lenovo again with each pointing to the other, I was able to fix the issue and get another 30 days before it will return to limitless use as it could not be activated. So I have a legitimate Vista Ultimate product, but can not get it activated. I would appreciate advice. Why is obtaining a Product Key so difficult when you have a legitimate version? Any assistance would be most appreciated

• VISTA activation of Studio 8

We have a site licence for Macromedia studio 8 which allows
us to install copies of any of the applications throughout the
school.
Activation is achieved by running a program activate.exe
This works OK for XP machines but doesnt seem to function for
VISTA. The licence files seem to copy across but the dialog box
requesting a serial number or to carry on in trial mode isnt
removed.
Any suggestions?

Dreamweaver 8 works fine on Vista after you update to 8.02.
Fireworks 8 has
minor issues with aero glass. If you are running aero when
you launch
Fireworks there is some screen flashing as Vista switches out
of glass. Then
Fireworks runs fine and you get the same flashing when you
close Fireworks.
Other than the annoyance of Fireworks switching display modes
I didn't
experience any problem with Vista and Macromedia Studio 8.
I had no problem activating our volume license either but I
run as
administrator - something Microsoft does not recommend. There
are issues
with some programs that are not installed as administrator
and that maybe
what you are running into with activate.exe being blocked or
it could be the
stronger Vista firewall blocking activate.exe from running.
I've had that
happen a couple times after running Windows update even with
CS 3.

• Vista activation issues

I have two computers running Vista Ultimate that were recently rebuilt. The computers were purchased before my time. We had a generic OEM Vista disk which I thought (hoped) had come with the computers. I was able to install Vista and
use the product keys the computer were labeled with. Now a month or two later, they're reporting messages about Windows needing to be activated. I have attempted to re-enter the codes again, but it will not accept them. I reinstalled the
same version of Windows, just obviously with a disk other than what came with the computer. The option to contact Microsoft about the problem leads you to enter credit card information, which I shouldn't have to do. Can someone point me to a phone
# or site where I can resolve this?
Thank you.

• HELP!! iTunes installation causes Windows Vista Activation corruption

We bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop from Dell that came with Windows Vista (32 bit)= a legal copy. I have tried to install the latest version of iTunes. The software seems to install ok, but when it is finished, I get messages from Vista that the my Windows Vista may be counterfeit, that I need to validate it. When I try to validate, it fails and never validates, and the machine no longer boots up in normal mode. The only thing that I can do is go into safe mode and restore the operating system to before I tried the install. The end result is no more iTunes until I can figure this out. Has anyone else seen this problem? Everything else is working fine.

Try following steps:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

• Can't activate windows vista

I am trying to install Windows Vista Business (retail boxed) 64 bit. The box didn't include 64 bit media and so I've downloaded it from technet. The install asks for the product key but it is not accepted "your product key cannot be validated.
Review your product key and make sure that you have entered it correctly".
I have been in a chat with microsoft for 2.5 hours so far and they have referred me to this forum. I don't feel that I am getting anywhere and I am incredibly frustrated.
I enclose the contents of the chat so that you can see what has already been discussed and what steps have already been taken.
You are now chatting with 'Ethan'.
Ethan: at 10:05:35
Hello Craig. Welcome to the TechNet Online Concierge. How may I assist you today?
Ethan: at 10:07:56
Excuse me, Craig, are you there?
Craig Stenton: at 10:08:01
Hi Ethan. I believe I spoke to you yesterday. I have a retail boxed version of Vista that has been unused that I'd like to use, but it only includes media for 32 bit and I am trying to obtain the media for 64 bit. I was given a link to download the software,
which I have done but my product key doesn't work with the software - product key cannot be validated. The software that I have is Vista Business (box)
Ethan: at 10:09:36
Thanks for your inquiry. In that case, you may claim a product key from the downloading page by clicking the "Product Keys" button.
Ethan: at 10:10:06
Or do you still want to use that product key?
Craig Stenton: at 10:11:07
That's ok if I can legally do that. The software will not be used by me and so I'm not sure the technet license should be used by another. I'm ok with it because I know that I have got a license for Vista. Is that ok legally?
Craig Stenton: at 10:12:01
Also, now that Microsoft is finishing the technet program, what happens to the license keys? Will they become invalid at some point in time?
Ethan: at 10:12:40
Technically, they will continue to work as usual. However, according to TechNet Licensing Terms, you must remove all TechNet products after your subscription expires. There is no perpetual use rights for any TechNet subscription.
Craig Stenton: at 10:16:08
So how does that relate to this enquiry? If I use the technet license and then my subscription expires then I can no-longer use the technet product key. Is it ok to continue to use it in place of the one with the boxed product? If it will work technically,
and I can prove that I have one product key (that I am not using for technical reasons) is that ok?
Ethan: at 10:18:06
In this case, I'd like to check your product key for you. Could you please send the key to [email protected] with "To Ethan" included in the subject so that I could know the issue better? Thanks.
Ethan: at 10:20:45
I mean I'd like to check why the key can't activate your media so that I could tell you if there is any other solutions.
Craig Stenton: at 10:22:01
My media only seems to install 32 bit but the license covers 32 bit and 64 bit. I need 64 bit media.
Craig Stenton: at 10:22:46
My product key doesn't work with the 64 bit media that I have downloaded from technet.
Ethan: at 10:23:38
Excuse me, you mean your product key is a 32 bit key, right?
Craig Stenton: at 10:24:22
I have a product key and just want 64 bit software to work with it. I want it to be legally correct but to a point, in my mind, it shouldn't matter if the software has to use a different product key to replace mine.
Ethan: at 10:26:43
Please note that product key and installation media must match with each other. Do you need me to check the type of your product key for you at this moment?
Craig Stenton: at 10:27:07
There is nothing on the box to say that it is 32 bit only. It does say "includes 32 bit dvd and information on obtaining 64 bit dvd", which does suggest that the product key is for 32 bit and 64 bit. there isn't any information to obtain 64 bit media
Ethan: at 10:31:25
Thanks for your information. In this case, I'd suggest you to contact our Windows Store support to see if they could provide you the retail installation media for you.
Ethan: at 10:31:25

Craig Stenton: at 10:45:28
But surely I can just download the 64bit software? I don't want to have to wait for a disk to be delivered and I don't expect to have to pay for it if it's available on download.
Craig Stenton: at 10:46:19
The product key is on the Vista Business box. I can provide a photo if you wish
Ethan: at 10:46:31
Sorry, I mean could you please tell me where did you get your retail boxed version of Vista
Craig Stenton: at 10:47:36
Oh, sorry. I can't be certain. Possibly PC World - I used them quite a lot at that time.
Craig Stenton: at 10:49:05
I didn't buy it off ebay or other dubious sources if that is the purpose of your query. If I look back through our accounts I will be able to determine where it was purchased but that is a big task.
Ethan: at 10:53:16
I just double checked it for you, Windows Vista product keys should work for both 36 bit and 65 bit versions.
Ethan: at 10:54:11
**Windows Vista product keys should work for both 36 bit and 64 bit versions. Sorry for my typo.
Craig Stenton: at 10:55:17
I saw that but I know what you meant ;-> so, now that we know that my product key is valid for 64 bit, how do I download the 64bit media? It must be available.
Ethan: at 10:57:55
Just to confirm, your product key is for Windows Vista Business, right?
Craig Stenton: at 10:58:50
Yes, that is correct
Ethan: at 11:02:37
Could you please tell me if you have used before? Also please give me more information about activating the media downloaded from our TechNet site.
Ethan: at 11:02:55
**Could you please tell me if you have used the key before? Also please give me more information about activating the media downloaded from our TechNet site.
Ethan: at 11:04:30
Sorry, I just noticed that you said the key is unused. Then could you please tell me the error message when you activate with the key?
Craig Stenton: at 11:04:52
TBH, I'm not even sure I ever used it, but if I did, it wasn't for long. I purchased it so that I could support a couple of users with new Vista laptops but then downgraded them to XP due to problems (then) with Vista.
Craig Stenton: at 11:06:14
The problem that I get when trying to use my product key with the download from technet is "your product key cannot be validated. Review your product key and make sure that you have entered it correctly"
Ethan: at 11:06:48
In that case, could you please send the key to [email protected] with "To Ethan" included in the subject so that I could check for you if the key is still valid?
Ethan: at 11:09:17
Excuse me, Craig, are you still there?
Craig Stenton: at 11:11:10
yES, i AM STILL HERE. jUST SENDING THE EMAIL
Craig Stenton: at 11:11:31
Sorry, caps on for typing the product key in my email to you.
Ethan: at 11:12:02
It's okay, please take your time.
Craig Stenton: at 11:16:24
I have sent the email to you. I have included photos of the product key and the message.
Ethan: at 11:17:08
Thank you, please give me a moment to check it for you.
Craig Stenton: at 11:19:47
ok
Ethan: at 11:23:57
Still checking. Sorry for the delay.
Ethan: at 11:31:44
Thanks for your waiting. I have checked it for you, your product key is valid.
Craig Stenton: at 11:32:23
OK, but it doesn't work with the software downloaded from technet so what do we do about it?
Ethan: at 11:32:27
But I'm afraid it can be only used on one machine.
Craig Stenton: at 11:33:06
It will only be used on one machine.
Ethan: at 11:35:24
Our tool shows that the key has been used for activation before. Is that also on the same machine?
Craig Stenton: at 11:37:40
If it has been activated before then it would either have been my machine, in which case it hasn't been used for a very long time, or a 32 bit version on the machine that I am trying to use it on, which would have been in the past couple of days.
Craig Stenton: at 11:42:44
Are you still there Ethan?
Ethan: at 11:43:46
Sorry, I was taking to another customer online.
Ethan: at 11:44:54

Craig Stenton: at 11:47:41
Yes I am
Craig Stenton: at 11:47:56
Do you mean the file that I downloaded from technet?
Ethan: at 11:48:09
Yes, you are correct.

en_windows_vista_x64_dvd_x12-40712.iso
Craig Stenton: at 11:49:12
I understand that this is not Vista Business, which I queried in my chats yesterday and I was told that it is the same media and should be ok
Ethan: at 11:52:13
Yes, the media contains Windows Vista and other editions. Normally, you may just claim a product key for Windows Vista Business, then you can install Windows Vista Business on your machine.
Craig Stenton: at 11:54:14
OK, so can you help me with that please?
Craig Stenton: at 11:54:42
It seems that I have the correct media, and my product key is valid so there shouldn't be any problems
Ethan: at 11:57:21

Craig Stenton: at 12:05:06
I have done what you said and when I call the number it is an automated system that requires numbers from the activation wizard. I can't ebven install thde software to be able to get to that stage. I need my product keey to be made to wotk with the downloaded

1. Click the Start button, and then click Computer.
Ethan: at 12:12:07

Ethan: at 12:12:07
3.The Windows Activation Wizard starts.
Ethan: at 12:12:07
4.Click Use the automated telephone system in the Windows Activation Wizard.
Craig Stenton: at 12:13:04
but I can't install windows! During the install I am asked for the product key and it tells me that it is not valid and so I can't proceed.
Craig Stenton: at 12:14:16
I can't use the usual methods of activation because I cannot get an activation code. I can't use the activation wizard. I can't call the number because it requires an activation code.
Craig Stenton: at 12:14:35
I am completely stuck without somebody making it work.
Craig Stenton: at 12:16:01
We've established that everything is correct so what is the problem?
Ethan: at 12:18:45
Okay, then you may post this issue on our support forums for further assistance from our support engineers. One moment please, let me locate the entrance for you.
Craig Stenton: at 12:20:09

but I can't install windows! During the install I am asked for the product key and it tells me that it is not valid and so I can't proceed.
Craig Stenton: at 12:14:16
I can't use the usual methods of activation because I cannot get an activation code. I can't use the activation wizard. I can't call the number because it requires an activation code.
Hi,
I'm a bit confused with this paragraph, as you said Vista already install on your computer, why did you say Windows can't be installed?
According to your description with your problem, it is Product edition and key are not match. Firstly of all, we must make sure the system you installed on your computer was
Windows Vista Business, not matter 32 or 64 bit.
Note: you can check current system edtion at System Properties.
After that, you can try to input your product key and activate your system for test.
If problem still presists, it would be better to provide the activation error message.

• How to lock Vista product key?

My Vista product key is stolen and I want to lock down this, what can I do?
I dont want to let it use who stolen my key.

The key and the sticker placed on notebooks bottom side belongs to recovery image you got with your notebook and cannot be used for operating system activation.
With other words: if anyone installs Vista using Microsoft installation disc this key cannot be used for Vista activation. So don't worry about it.
Just be sure you have your recovery DVD on secure place and you can use it in the future for OS installation.
Even when you use this original Toshiba installation disc the licence key from the bottom must not be used.

• Wrong operating system updates

i had to do a total reformat of my vista computer do to a cleaner prograqm i did not download.i did not use anything except what was stored on backup of my computer, not i cannot open control p[anel,it flases then closes,a constant error ask me

Hi,
Firstly, please make sure you have a genuine Operating System.
Then verify that your copy of Windows Vista is activated, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, and then click Computer.
2.Click System properties on the toolbar, and view the Windows Vista activation status in the
Windows activation area at the bottom of the System properties
box.
After that, try to open Control Panel again for test.
If the issue still persists, repair your installation as the reference below:

• How to fix partition table by use fdisk

i installed vista with my os x.
each time i boot into my vista the system shows "partition tablr not recognized" and then load some loaders from vista.
there's also a message showing that " use windows fdisk" to fix the problem.
i'm not good at computer. so please guide me step by step to solve the problem.
thanks in advance.
joh

You should probably purchase a legitimate retail version of Windows Vista. The error comes from the BIOS emulation hack that bypasses the Vista activation function.
It should eventually boot, however. After which, you can open the command shell, and type:
*bootrec.exe /fixmbr*
*bootrec.exe /fixboot*
... which ought to make the message go away (and Vista boot faster).

• WinXP emulation

What do people find best to emulate Windows XP. I really need to run MSOffice for work. I have tried Qemu but find the XP with just updates and office installed crashes... a lot. I need to be able to get documents from Arch to windows using some sort of shared folder and I don't want to use closed source programs so that rules out VirtualBox. I was thinking maybe going for kvm. Anyone have any experience with it? How about other programs?

i'm trying to get office 2000 working in wine but when i'm installing (just after selecting the packages to install) it exits with a message saying that installation can't finish due to some error, i'm looking forward to qemu with some sort of shared folder, i'm just installed office 2000 in windows 2000 but i'm looking for the shared folder part
from wine app database http://appdb.winehq.org/search_results. … earch#1090
Office 97'
What works
Word, Excel
What does not
Everything except using mouse to select the components to be installed, see bug 5498 for more details.
What was not tested
Everything except Word, Excel.
Office 2000
What works
The installer, although install customizations are ignored.
Opening files
What does not
Editing/creating files in Word, Excel, or Powerpoint.
Word, Excel, and Powerpoint run, but display a dialog asking for user data. Closing this dialog a few times will also close the program, so these programs are not usable.
What was not tested
Word, Excel, Powerpoint functions. I was unable to do any editing with them.
Additional Comments
When the screen asks for user information, closing it twice will produce a message box saying that "Required registry information is missing and this application cannot run. Please rerun setup to correct the problem." The dialog asking for user information then appears again. If it is closed, the application will also close. The menus appear to work, even when the user information screen is shown, but no editing can be done. The applications are able to open files (using the open button on the toolbar).
Office XP
What works
Installs correctly
What does not
Registering product?
Every time winword starts the installer starts to finalize the installation, shows that it's installed correctly and asks for name and initials.
What was not tested
Usability of the programs, testing installer.
Office 2003
What works
Basic functions of Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
What does not
Did not install clip art functions (chose the Typical Install), so each app crashes when I choose to insert clip art.
Excel freezes on launch and Access crashes when trying to create a new database.
What was not tested
Further functions of Access and Excel. Did not test a complete installation.
Additional Comments
These functions were tested with a fresh install of Wine with no further modifications. Office 2003 was installed with a Typical install.
Office 2007
What works
Installer works, just requires overrides, a borrowed rpcrt4.dll, and winver=Vista
Activation works over internet or phone. (If internet fails, try again. i had to click retry once).
I've submitted results for the programs individually - see the appdb page for Microsoft Outlook, Word, etc.
What does not
Installing out-of-the-box
What was not tested
Custom install.
Additional Comments
This is the professional version. How I installed (Thanks to Zachary Stewart for the guide) : Started with a fresh wine prefix. 1) Ran winecfg, set windows version to Vista. Clicked 'autodetect' on drives tab to assign a drive (d:\) to my cdrom(/mnt/cdrom). 2) Downloaded winetricks, ran "sh winetricks msxml3 dotnet20 gdiplus riched20 riched30 vcrun2005sp1". Clicked through a great many installers. 3) rename ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/rpcrt4.dll to rpcrt4.bak 4) download a new rpcrt4.dll from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?njtut9aswdk (was linked from another guide). Copy to that system32 folder. 5) winecfg->libraries add an override for rpcrt4.dll (i left it at native, builtin) 6) "cd /mnt/cdrom", "wine setup.exe" 7) Clicked through installer, added product key, etc. Progress bar slows down a bit about 60% done, but just wait a few minutes and it finishes. 8) Remove the downloaded rpcrt4.dll, restore the .bak. Open winecfg and remove the override. Set the windows version down to XP. 9) Start up office. Activation works through phone or internet. ("cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Office/Office12", then "wine WINWORD.EXE").

Not what I need. But thanks for the sarcasm.Wrong. The second link in the google search is to the Java Media Framework. But thanks for not even bothering to read past the first result. Good luck getting help after that attitude.
Traffic surgeon code found in http://www.codeproject.com/KB/vista/activity.aspx
But it's very complicated for me.What about it is too complicated for you? What parts of it are you trying to work with? What have you tried? Where exactly did you get stuck? And if your answer is something like "I don't even know how to get started", then you should just go back and work through the basic tutorials until you have a firmer grasp on the fundamentals. How are we supposed to help you if you don't provide us any information?

• P7N Diamond voltages

After watching some screenshots from ppl with same board showing CPUID Hardware monitor i have noticed that the VIN5 and VIN6 is higher than mine, and i would like to know if anyone of you know what it is for?=)
VIN5 is at 0.10-0.26V and VIN6 is at 0.17-0.38V
I am thinking that the motherboard does not get what it wants, another thing i have noticed is that the I12V thing in bios is not showing close to 12V at all, its alot lower.
I have no idea if it really matters but i still have alot problem with this computer and i dont want to buy anymore
hardware for testing =)

ok, for me it is not that i want to have the real voltages, i am just curious what you that have a working P7N Diamond board have, if you use the CPUID Hardware Monitor, maybe not accurate but i guess its not more accurate for you than it is for me etc, maybe just a waste of time=)
I have contacted both msi and gigabyte and waiting for their answer, have nothing better to do than trying to figure out things on my own =)
Probably wont get anywhere until tuesday or wednesday, it is just so frustrating when i cant solve my problems like sound crackling, monitor goes blank and graphic corruption on
DXVA(hardware accelerated) videos.
Could be that the motherboard/PSU does not supply enough power to the graphic card, could also be a bad driver but then all drivers are bad that i have tested,
seem to give me less crackling with a slower graphic card.
Got a new bios from msi, but then vista activation failed cause of new hardware, and it did not help me in anyway so flashed back to original.
Well i can always help others while waiting, learn alot of all this troubleshooting reading =)
