Vista and Fireworks CS3

I just bought a new desktop (Vista Home Premium, Pentium Dual
Core @1.6, 2024 ram, HDD 320 @ 7200) and installed CS3 Web Premium
(Which worked well on my slower XP Pro laptop). Fireworks simply
will not work. I've read some of the posts related to this issue
and was unsure of where to begin trying to resolve this. I
purchased the student edition and don't think that I get free*
support. Any help would be appreciated.

It has always worked fine on my Vista Ultimate box, so I'm
not sure where to
start helping you. What are the symptoms?

  • Windows 7 and Fireworks CS3

Was anyone here able to run Fireworks CS3 flawlessly on
Windows 7? It has very strange behavior. I was able to get it run
for the first time after I have waited for more than hour to start
it. Then I activated it and was able to work with it without
problems. After restart it takes again forever to start. It looks
to me like there is no problem with fireworks but with some code
which is checking if the copy is legal and this is causing the
delay. I used FW very occasionally just to create some web
graphics, i bought FW8 and then i bought upgrade just to be able to
run it on windows vista. i really dont want to buy upgrade again to
use it on windows 7 just once a month. Any help appreciated.
    update
Now it stopped working and I have got this message
Licensing for this product has stopped working.
You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the
problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or
contacting your IT administrator or Adobe customer support for
    help.

On Windows 7? That's a beta product. If you want to use
Windows 7 you can expect problems as the purpose of the beta test
    is to
find problems. CS3 works well on Vista. If you need to work
productively, use a released product, not a beta.
That said, I had the same error on Vista a couple of weeks
ago. Something hung in Fireworks and not only would Fireworks not
start, none of my other CS3 apps (on Vista) would start. I got the
same error message in each. It is something in the licensing
product that Adobe uses. I searched Google for the text of the
error message and found a KB article that eventually got things
    working.
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401528
I had to run the utility all three times, and then keep on
going through the other steps of moving off file folders before my
apps started working again. It was frustrating for the to stop
working, like that, and I kept being disappointed at having to move
on to the next "if that didn't work, do this." But at least they're
    working again!

  • Dw8 and fireworks CS3

    hi everyone!
i d like to ask you if there is a problem in using
    dreamweaver 8 + fireworks CS3.
    Does these cooperate correctly?
    Thanks!

They are not the same. DWCS3 is DW9.

  • Editing a Web Photo Album Created With Dreamweaver CS3 and Fireworks CS3

I created a web photo album with DW CS3 and FW CS3. I want to
add and delete some of the photos in the collection. So far, the
only way I have been able to do this is to recreate the whole thing
from scratch with all the correct pictures in the target folder. Is
    there an easier way?

I could be wrong (we only test Adobe widgets for the quality
    of their output
code, not for features, or lack of features) but recreation,
    as Patty said,
might be the only way. If you have a development budget, you
    might want to
take a look at some commercial tools that would have the
    features and
    capabilities you want or need.

  • Is Vista and Flash CS3 performance issue solved?

My performances in Flash CS3 are very poor. When I try to
scroll up-down/left-right I got slideshow. When move the
framecursor to view the frames I also get slideshow. Searched
google, do the compatibility settings and the only batter thing I
get is smoother scrolling of the code. Nothing more. Is this
    solved?
Im running C2Duo with 4gb 800 ram with Vista x64.
Should I go back to Flash 8?

    I have an old AlBook G4 1.67 2GB and I actually think CS3
works great. There is a huge thread about this very issue going on
at the moment so you might want to take a look there. I never had
Flash 8, but MX04 also ran just fine on my laptop.
As far as player performance, it has sped up a lot with AS3
and Flash plugin 9. (Even if you publish AS2 for Flash 9!). I Don't
know if there is true parity between the systems, but it is
    certainly faster.
I've always thought it a good idea to develop on a Mac. If
you can make your animations look smooth and good playing back in
the Mac version of the player then you know they will look good
across the board. I can't tell you how many sites (thankfully fewer
these days) where I go and everything just crawls and chugs along.
It is usually due to over high frame rates and excess transparency
or animated raster images. (And I'm talking about the kind that
even if it did move smoothly it wouldn't be worth it!)

  • Fireworks CS3 WIll Not Start Up

I have downloaded both the Dreamweaver and Fireworks CS3
trials and have been using them both for a couple of days without
any problems. Suddenly when starting up Fireworks (it starts to
load the program) then comes up with the following pop up message
box. "Your user privileges do not allow Fireworks to update your
registry. Launch and edit with Dreamweaver will not work properly
until Fireworks is launched while using Administrative privileges.
The pop up box then freezes and I am unable to close it down.
If I go into task manager and end program, it then finishes loading
    and shut down.
I am running Vista Ultimate and my account is the admin
account and this has only just started to happen.
    Any ideas anyone?

If you are unable/unwilling to allow the user to "run as administrator", there is another way.
A security concern could be that the file->open dialogue retains the given administrative rights of whatever account was used for "run as administrator". This can be exploited by the lesser user to gain access to folders otherwise restricted.
The most hassle free trick is to give the user full rights to the registry key, that Fireworks wants to write to.
(In the future, use ProcessMonitor from Microsoft to detect what a program tries to access and if it is successfull or not. That's how I found this registry key)
Add FULL rights on this registry key to "Everyone"
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Fireworks.exe
That fixed the problem nicely for me.
Also new users will not be required to "run as administrator", as this is valid for all users.
True.. it gives the user full access to that specific registry key, but that is at least much less dangerous than giving full access to the entire system.
You can play around with lesser access than Full, but I will not spend more time figuring out the lowest level of access that will permit Fireworks to run.
Hope this trick works for you too

  • Fireworks CS3 app is slow

I have now had to re-install Fireworks MX as this is the only
Fireworks application that responds with any speed.
I've tried Fireworks MX 2004, Fireworks 8 and Fireworks CS3
all 3 of which are painfully slow when swapping between
applications. I have to wait around 10 seconds for it to respond
    before I can continue working.
I've trawled the web for a solution to no avail.
    I'm running:
    Dell Dimension 8400
    Windows XP SP3
    3.25GB of RAM
    Radeon X800 SE video card
Any other app in the CS3 range is fine, I've tried disabling
anti-virus, removing services, changing compatibility modes and
numerous other things to no avail.
    Any help much appreciated.

I'm on XP SP2 and don't find the app particularly slow. What
    size files
    are you working with?
You might want to give the new Fireworks Public Beta a try.
    One focus
for the beta was to improve overall performance.
You can find the beta at labs.adobe.com

  • Dreamweaver and Fireworks Trial Conversion

I downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver CS3 and Fireworks
CS3. I have purchased Creative Suite Web Standard. Do I have to
    uninstall my trial versions?

Try using the serial number from your purchase, thought I'm
    not 100% sure
whether it will work because you purchased a 'package'. If
    the Serial
number doesn't 'take', then you would need to install the
    software via the
package you purchased and then use the serial number.

  • Fireworks CS3 and Win 7

I just upgraded to Win7 and everything in Fireworks CS3 seems to be working except the brush tool. When trying to paint the cursor is irratic, moves slowing across the picture and I can't control the speed of the brush tool. Is anybody else having this problem and if so do you have a work around?

This was a problem in Vista and the workaround there is to turn off the Aero theme for Fireworks. (CS3 Bitmap tools and Aero are not happy together.)
Not sure if Win7 has the same settings, but it should. Try this: go to the Fireworks folder, right-click on Fireworks.exe, and select Properties. If there's a Compatibility tab, first try setting it to "Disable desktop composition." (Mine's also set to run in XP compatibility mode, but maybe I did that first, it wasn't the ticket, and I added the "Disable desktop composition" checkbox.)
When you start or close Fireworks, your screen might flicker to black as Aero is turned off and on, but otherwise, everything should work okay.

I can use both with no problems at all and all CS3
    applications do
support VIsta. You will have to be much more specific about
    what
problems you are having, error messages, etc.

  • Fireworks CS3 - Internal error when save as JPEG and batch mode

    Dears,
I am being in trouble for all along these 7 days due to this
error. I hope that someone may help me.
After upgrading to CS3 from Fireworks 8, I am having this
"internal error message" both when the preview for a JPEG export
format is chosen (it works OK when the export format is either GIF
or PNG) and when I work with batch operation.
Everything is OK if I run Fireworks either as "root" user or
as "adminplus" user ("adminplus" is the username of an extra user
with administration privileges I created for testing).
My operating system is MacOsX 10.5.4 and my computer is a
MacBook2,1 (MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz with 2GB RAM and a
brand new 186,31 GB Hitachi Journaled HFS+ HD with 100GB free).
I tried in many way to get the valuable differences in the
Library files and privileges (looking to many forums, it seems this
may be the cause, also confirmed by the fact that other users works
fine) but I didn't get any special differences.
I tried to trash the preferences but still the error is
    present.
I tried with the master temporary file in MacOsX with
terminal command "stat -x $TMPDIR" checked against command "id".
User and privileges were OK but still the "internal error" was
    there.
I tried with a simple reinstall for Fireworks CS3 and with a
full reinstall of the full CS3 web standard suite and, moreover,
    uninstalling and reinstalling everything.
I also tried with Fireworks 8 which was not removed by the
upgrade and it has the same problems.
May I receive a competent suggestion about how to diagnosis
    and solve the problem?
    Many thanks,
    Carmine

    OK. I solved it!
Whoever will have the same problem may ask how I solved. It
is not complicated but it is a long story. I succeed without any
reinstall of operating system as suggested by the ADOBE support, in
case any of the suggestions found everywhere, will give no result.
I will be happy to explain what to do to whoever will need
    it.
    My very best wishes,
    Carmine

YOu need to export the files from Fireworks to your
    Dreamweaver site,
then if you want to use the Fireworks HTML, use the

  • Problems with Fireworks CS3 in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Pro from Windows XP Pro. My Fireworks CS3 is having a problem. I cannot select items in the left side menu bar if I minimize or move the Fireworks CS3 window. If I have just opened the window it works, but minimize the window or move it and the toolbar stops working.
This problem is not unique to my machine. 2 other people are having the exact same problem. Here is the link to the Windows 7 forum:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/software/26957-adobe-fireworks-cs3-issue.html
We sure could use some help. This is one of my bread and butter programs.

I'm happy to hear you have other work-around alternatives!
Businesses with mission-critical software usually are very careful to research that their software will run on any proposed new system or that alternative software is available. This is the main reason that Microsoft had to continue supporting XP longer than they intended. Too much business-critical software ran on XP but did not run under Vista and would take some time before it would be upgraded to do so...if at all.
If you have "bread and butter" apps, then it was your responsibility to make sure that you could run them once you upgraded. Adobe's software worked more or less as advertised for the operating systems that were available at the time the versions were released. That's reasonable. Expecting indefinite support into the future is not.
Fireworks isn't a $2000 product. Adobe continues product development, yes. They've moved on to CS4 and its patches. You can upgrade to FW CS4 for about $150. The system requirements for FW CS4 do not include Windows 7; note that Fireworks is only certified for 32-bit operating systems:
    http://store.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/software/fireworks4/systemreqs.html
However, there's a statement about CS4 applications (in general) working with Windows 7:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/fireworks/faq/?anonymous_element_1=4
And you'd want to get the recent updater:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/fireworks/downloads_updaters.html
    speedtigger wrote:
... It is probably not a huge problem to fix for an Adobe engineer.
If the feature worked under Vista but does not work under Windows 7, then that means that the problem probably lies somewhere in how the program communicates with the OS. The problem is not isolated to the tens - possibly hundreds - of thousands of lines of Fireworks code, but in how that code interacts with the Windows 7 APIs. To solve this problem is not the work of "an Adobe engineer." It's the work of a project team. It's the work of a project team which would have to be pulled off development of Fireworks CS5 for a few months to resurrect the old CS3 code, get familiar with it, and try to track down and solve the problem, then package up, test, and release a patch . By pulling resources off CS5 development, CS5 would be delayed or quality inversely impacted. Since CS3 is not a current product for sale, I can't see Adobe making this investment. There's no return on it, where there would be a return on getting a quality FW CS5 out the door on time.
