if i have multiple iPhones and Mac Mini sharing the same Apple ID, can I use Facetime between the devices?

Yes, but if you want these devices to have complete capability of calling each other they each must have their own separate, individual e mail address.  If they don't have individual e mail addresses, the i phones will be able to call each other because you'll be using their  individual phone numbers -- the Mac mini will be able to call the i phones, but, the iphones will not be able to call the Mac mini.  This is because the iphones will be using the mini's e- mail address to make the call, and if they have the same e mail address, they will think they are calling themselves, so the call will not connect.
So, the way I see it is,  if you keep all of the email addresses the same, the only thing you'll loose is the ability of the iphones to call the mini.
EDIT:  Thinking about it, my first sentence needs to be modified.  Your iphones can share an email address but it must be different from the Mac mini address.
This isn't rocket science, but it can make your head spin. LOL

  • Network between Vista and Mac

i'm trying to create a network between a Vista desktop and my Macbook Pro for files and printer sharing.
after lots work with setting on Vista, I now can enter in MacbookPro folders from Vista. the problem is by Mac side: i can't find the printer connect on Vista (and shared), and the icon of PC don't appear on Finder, so i can't enter on Vista's folders. the problem with file sharing is strange, cause only one time, today, icon of PC was appeared on Finder (come back to Stop of Mac)..... i've traied with the same method another times, without success...
I don't now what to do. I hope someone help me

I have limited knowledge but will try to help you as I have battled through this myself recently...You will lose nothing if you give it a try!
In System Preferences open the Sharing folder. Check the boxes to enable 'File' & 'Printer' Sharing. In the same open window select 'Options'.. Here I have Share files and folders using AFB and (importantly) also Share files and folders using SMB. - 'on' should be checked and 'Account' should i believe be the name assigned to your Macbook. - select 'Done' and then also close the 'sharing' window in sys preferences to take you back to the desktop.
In 'Finder' select the 'Go' option in the toolbar. Select connect to server from the drop down menu. You now need to enter the server address which will be the name of your Vista Pc - enter as follows: smb://(your vista name).. you may have to also enter the password for the Vista machine if it is configured in this way. ( It has been a while since I completed this so a little rusty here!)
If you have entered the correct information when you hit 'Connect', your Macbook should find your Vista desktop that has previously not been appearing in your Macbook 'Sharing' section - this was the issue that I was originally experiencing. You should now see the Vista machine in the Sharing section of your Macbook.
If this has been successful to here... This will enable access to try to solve the printer sharing problem? I think this one is beyond me as there are so many different configurations/installation options dependent upon the type of printer and network configurations.
It is possible to configure your Macbook to automatically find your Vista machine at startup if it is not found as a matter of course, which I perceive to be the case here... Try this to automate connection at startup..
Go to Sys Preferences and sect 'Accounts' you may have to enter your password to initiate changes. Making the assumption that you are connected now to your Vista machine and it is showing in the 'Shared' section of 'Finder'- select the 'Login Items' option and then select the '+' under where it states 'To hide an application when you log in etc etc.
From the window that opens you will now select your Vista machine from the left hand folders menu. when done click 'Add' and close windows to return to your desktop. Re-start the Macbook to check whether the Vista machine will now load to the Mac automatically at startup.
I hope this works for you as it has for me - The non discovery of the vista machine by the Mac was driving me round the bend

  • Networking Printers   Windows Vista and Mac

I have my Mac connected to my home network(wired) and a HP 5550 printer connected to my Mac. I would like to print from my Vista PC to the HP via the network, but it keeps stating that I don't have sufficent permission when using Bonjour for windows. HELP.

Hello SteveKid. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Have PC with Windows Vista and Belkin N1 Router. Want to replace Belkin with Airport Extreme to use with both PC and MacBook Pro.
Unless you have additional networking requirements or are having issues with your Belkin router, there is no reason to have to replace it with an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) just to support both Macs and PCs. Your MacBook Pro shouldn't have any difficulties connecting to routers provided by manufacturers other than Apple.
Do I need to download special software for Windows or is this included on disk that comes with the Airport?
Software (AirPort Utility) to administer the AEBSn from either a Mac or a PC is included with the installation disc that comes with the base station. The necessary software is already installed on the Mac, but if you intend to administer the AEBSn from the PC, you would need to install it on the PC from the disc or download it directly from Apple's Support site. The other software that comes on the disc is Bonjour for Windows. This allows for easier access to a printer attached to the AEBSn from PCs, but is not mandatory in order to print.
Printer is HP Photosmart C6380 all-in-one ane purports to work wirelessly...so far wired to PC and unable to link to PC wirelessly. That's why Airport Extreme with USB for printer makes sense to me.
Unfortunately, there is one caveat. The USB port on the AEBSn does not fully support the non-printing features (fax, copy, scan) of all-in-one printers ... just the print function. If these features are important to you, then you may want to look for wireless print server provided by another manufacturer that does support these additional features. I believe Linksys/Cisco still provide these.

  • Boot Camp, Vista and Mac Pro X1900XT

    Hey all,
I'm experceing what appears to be a common problem with the Mac Pro with X1900XT option and Boot Camp.
Vista installs file and everything is recognized except for the Radeo X1900XT card. When I boot up, I get what appears to be 16-colors displayed. When I tried to use my Boot Camp driver disk, everything installs fine except for the Radeon card.
I've also tried downloading and installing Windows Vista Catalyst drivers from ATI.com (version 7.3 as the release notes mentioned HDMI is supported by that version) and still the same problem and now my Vista crashes constantly before I log in.
Has anyone experienced? Suggestions or a workaround?
P.S - I also own a black macbook and the same copy of Vista worked flawlessly on it, even with Aero effects turned on.

The Mac Pro needs 4 FB-DIMMS minimum.
While this Mac Pro I own is the most capable, flexible and enjoyable machine I have ever owned, who says it will run circles around your friend's custom built? I suspect for many/most tasks you would be correct. Except for 3D simulation. PC video cards have higher performance clocks and drivers.
After using my MP 2.66 for 6 weeks as a PC and a Mac I have concluded:
This is a Mac, and should be used to run Mac OS (the real reason to buy a Mac). While it's great to be able to run XP and Vista on a Mac, for general purpose apps usage (geek nirvana), if high performance video cards are critical get a PC.
The Macs strength, is the dividends returned by it's tight integration as a platform. For example, I popped in a second video card and it just worked. No half dozen pop-ups telling me about new hardware and all that blather.
Once I get this sling off of my arm, I will be building a PC for heavy duty simulation.

  • Vista and Mac

    Hello!
OK, here is my problem: I am trying to set up a network which should enable me to access files on my Windows Vista (business) Computer. So far I was able to access files, but I am unable to copy any files to the Vista PC or delete files on it using my Mac. I just get the message: The operation cannot be completed becauseyou do not have sufficient priviliges for some of the items.
Additional Information: I am using an Asus 500W Router and enter the Vista PC over Macintosh HD > Network > "My Vista PC" > Selcet SMB/CIFS shared volume and then I am on my PC.
I have provided full Read and Write Permission on my Vista Pc for all users.
So any ideas what I am missing?
    Thanks!

This is most likely a Vista permissions problem not anything with the Mac but try make the changes in C:/Users/youraccount/desktop or something that your account will have write permissions too. I've had problems make writes to the root of C:/ even as an admin.

  • DW CS3 for Vista and Mac OS compatibility

    Hi
I use Dreamweaver CS3 on Windows Vista. I also have a Mac OS
laptop. I am thinking of Running the MAc version of Dreamweaver on
the Laptop. Would the files between the two systems be
    interchangeable.
In other words, if I created a site on the Vista machine
would I be able to edit it on the Mac and vise versa.
    Thanks

HTML is HTML. There is no platform specificity in it. You
    should have no
problem. I routinely work in the same site on the same files
    on either Mac
    or PC.

  • HT202213 Problem: My Library doesn't share on Windows (on BootCamp, Windows Vista and Mac OS X Leopard)

    Hello,
I've installed iTunes on Windows Vista, (under BootCamp, on my Macbook).
I want to see my library on my Windows, but it doesn't work.
I already have activated the Home Sharing, and authorized both computers. (I have turned OFF those 2 options and turned ON again, as I read somewhere, but it doesn't work.)
    Any ideas?
    thank you!

Limewire has not updated their software for Leopard. Currently only runs on 10.4.X (Tiger) according to their website.

  • Star ratings in Vista and PSE6 not shared

In PSE6, I rate my pictures using the 1-5 star rating system. I also have a mini-slideshow in my Vista sidebar, for which I sometimes pull up a picture. This opens the pic in Windows Photo Gallery (WPG), where I can also assign the star rating. My problem is if I rate a photo in WPG, that star rating doesn't transfer to the same photo when viewed using PSE6.
Is it possible to transfer the star rating into PSE6? I thought WPG would add that info into the picture's metadata but apparently that's not the case.

    To build on Barbaras answer:
Technically, both PSE 6 and Windows Live Photo Gallery store a photos rating in the metadata field XMP:Rating. But because both programs cache (save away) metadata information in their own proprietary catalogs, they wont play nicely.
If you set a photos rating in WLPG, it will write it to the XMP:Rating field. If you then import that photo into PSE 6, PSE will pick up the rating.
Conversely, if you set a photos rating in PSE 6 and do File > Write Keyword Tags, the rating will be written to the XMP:Rating field. If you then view that photo for the first time in WLPG (e.g. by adding its folder), WLPG will pick up the rating.
But once a photo is imported into both programs, changes made to the metadata by one program wont be visible to the other. Thats because these programs only read the metadata in the file when they first import it into their catalog. Changes made after that get stored in their proprietary catalog and get written back to the file, but they never get read back in.
The same properties apply to keyword tags set by the programs.

I have been having similar problem between my Mac and Vista. Vista was able to see Mac on the Ethernet but attempts to connect alway result in "incorrect user name or password" when they were actually correct.
I tried to search through this gigantic discussion but could not find how it was solved. Would you please let me know how you made it work?
