Vista and winsys taking up lots of space
Ok, so everytime I install Vista, either 32 or 64 bit, there is a folder called 'winsys' which takes up to 8GB of storage on first install on my MacBook Pro late-2009.
Is there anyway to delete the files in this or stop getting winsys to make a folder over and over? Everytime I login the folder size has got bigger and bigger.
It is very annoying! Please help.
Sorry, the folder name is called 'winsxs'

when round tripping with photoshop cc, i get a saved psd file with my original raw,the problem is these are high file sizes and taking a lot of space, can i stop this?
That's not the workflow that I use. I have my Lightroom preferences set to create TIF images when going to Photoshop. I keep the original raw file and the TIF image (usually reduced to an 8-bit image) and only export JPEG's when they are needed to send to a lab or to send to someone over the Internet. JPEG files are highly compressed. I only create them when they are needed, and they are discarded as soon as they have been used for their intended purpose. I keep the raw file and the Photoshop-created TIF in my library. This requires extra disk space. But I always have the highest quality files available.

What is taking a lots of space
As you see up there, I want's to ask you guys that what takes a lots of "Others" in sotrage?
I am little bit new to mac and I dont's know how to us macbook air very wellAs sberman indicated, this "other" is content that doesn't fit a specific category. Unfortunately this built-in application of OS X doesn't do a very good job of telling you specifically what it is, where it is and exactly how much each individual file is consuming (of the 50.5 GB).
Using a 3rd party application like Daisy Disk, Disk Inventory X or Omni Disk Sweeper can give you a more specific break down and tell you where the large files reside. You can then decided whether to delete or archive the file in an effort to free up disk space. -
How can I remove the ~2.2Gb of "other" data that I assume is ios6 install files? I have no photos or music on my 8Gb phone and having a quarter of my phone full already with crap I don't want is frustrating.
Yesterday I actually downloaded and installed ios6, found out how crappy it was, and then reverted back to 5.1.1. I want nothing to do with ios6, including the install files.
Thanks,
AlexI am having this problem as well.... when iOS6 went live, my iPhone4 rebooted itself in the middle of the night (I was awake) and then automatically downloaded the ~2.5 GB iOS6 installer, which in Settings it says is downloaded and ready to install - but gives no way to say no or delete it. I also tried using iExplore but Apple doesn't put it as an App, it has some special hidden system folder that there's apparently no way to see except jailbreaking it.
Someone on Twitter said you have to restore... but if I do that I'll lose everything I've done since my last backup AND it will just auto-download again. I don't want iOS6 - Apple bricked my iPhone 3G with iOS4, but more importantly, I live in a city and use/rely on those public transportation directions and accurate maps - neither of which exist in that disaster than is iOS6.
This really ****** me off & inconviences me because it cuts my available space on my phone IN HALF. Not to mention I never agreed to it or wanted it. AND I have limited bandwidth / Comcast gets mad at me if I use too much. WTH -
I have installed iPhoto for iPad and its taking a lot of time to sync the photos from the library
I have been waiting for like 3 hours and iPhoto App can't sync all my albums. I don't have a lot of photos and its weird because the App hangs many times. I have the new iPad.
iPhoto for iOS does not sync your photos. To sync photos you use iTunes on your computer and connect your iPad.
When iPhoto for iOS runs it checks your photo library. If there have been changes to your photos iPhoto needs to update the library. It will compare the library in existence with the photos on your pad and update the reference to those things which have changed. If you have a lot of photos this will take some time. If iPhoto for iOS shuts down during this process you might have some corrupt photos on your ipadthat need to be fixed or deleted first. -
Where are all the movies stored taking up lots of space?
According to About this Mac, Get info...my movie storage is over 100 gig but can't seem to find it anywhere on my computer? I've got about 20Gig in my Movies and Music folder but can't seem to see anything else anywhere. Where esle can I check?
Where do Mobile Applications get classified in About this Mac Get Info? Cuz I've got 26 Gig in there. And where do all the movies you take in iPhotos get stored? As part of Photos? Or Movies? Thanks Macjack. So I've got 100 Gig in Dropbox in my user folder...I didn't think drop box would take up space on your computer? I tought I could transfer everything off my computer into dropbox, and delete everything in my computer folders that I transfered to dropbox? I tried to do this but everything disappeared in Drop box and my user folder. Must they be the same and is the information then duplicated?
So what I did was copied everything in my documents and my iPhoto library into dropbox. Then deleted everything in my documents folder (not iPhotos cuz that's still transferring over!) and after a day or two everything was gone from dropbox as well...luckily I had it all backed up and was able to bring it back. So is everything duplicated then? On my computer and drop box?
Sorry if this is all confusing... -
Movie space taking up lots of space but I can't find the movies?
My Macbook HD says that there is 65GB of movies on my computer. My itunes has only 3 GB and my imovie has very little. I'm trying to free up some space and I don't know where those 65MB of movies are at.
Use a program such as Grand Perspective to locate large files such as movies.
If you get a dialog box like this
... either temporarily adjust your Gatekeeper settings in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, to allow applications downloaded from "Anywhere", or control-click the GrandPerspective app, choose Open from the contextual menu, then choose Open from the following dialog box:
You only have to do this once. After that you can open GrandPerspective and the dialog box will not appear.
Readjust your Gatekeeper settings if necessary. -
Connection and reconnection taking a lot of time
Hi ppl. I am on a POC with 5 machines plus the Active Directory on a Win 2003 server,
the vdi hosts and the storage server each of them reside on a LDOM (four in total) created
on one sparc blade on a sun blade 6000, each vdi has 4 gb of memory and the storage server
has 3 gb (ARC size is 2GB) and one zfs partition of about 60gb.
The xVM server was created in a LDOM on an x68 blade on the
same sun blade 6000. Solaris 10 U7 in all of them. VDI and virtualbox installed as per
installation instructions. All vdi servers has the AD as their ntp and dns server.
The user directory is working, connected and authenticated to the AD, we are able to search
for users from the web interface.
the problem: most of the time the vdi login screen appears after less than 30 secs, but
after entering a valid (or for testing, invalid) user/password, most of the time the "connecting
to vdi" screen is displayed for 1 or more minutes, after which it either falls back to the
vdi login screen or opens a the session or shows the two VMs to pick one. After selecting
one of the VMs or entering the previous session, everything works fast, inside the win
session, but then again, when we log out, disconnect or close the session, it takes for
anoter 2 or more minutes to get the VDI login screen again, it has taken up to 5 to 6 mins
to get to the vdi screens.
I dont find any related information on the cacao.0 logs, dmesg or /var/log/syslog log files,
the vdi web admin interface shows the VM taken by the user used in the vdi login screen,
also, just got kicked out of the vdi web admin with an error (will be posted on the next
message, what can we be doing wrong? what should we look at?
thanks in advance

Generating xml using PL/SQL taking a lot of space in TEMP tablespace
We wrote a stored procedure that generate xml which will be stored in a CLOB column. Environment is 9i on Windows 2003.
The gnerated xml is about 800K. In the procedure there is one big cursor that will retrieve 200 records of 55 fields and many other small dynamic cursors that open and close here and there. The fields are pretty small. Biggest ones are like varchar2(30). The query for the big cursor does using union and need sorting.
Can anyone explain why it takes about 15G of TEMP tablespace to accomplish this job and is there a way to avoid this? The version is Enterprise Edition 9.2.0.1.0.
Below is the query.

can anyone tell me what the "Other" stands for in the capacity window when sycing my I-phone It is taking a lot of space and I would like to delet or at least review what the media is? Thoughts
if you look to the right at more like this ---------------------------> the one with a green check will answer your question. Or do a forum search.

Hi All,
We have our application on Weblogic Server 8.1 SP5 and its taking a lot of time while starting up.
What I found that these lines are the ones which are taking up majority of the time.
Kindly Suggest how we can improve on this.

The above 2 lines are taking 1.5min each.I suggest that you take some thread dumps 10-15 secs apart during the time it's slow. The log timing alone won't tell you where the threads are spending time.

I originally had an iPhone 4 but switched service carriers back in June. When I bought the new iPhone 4s, all my information from the iPhone 4 was saved as a backup on the iCloud. On my new phone in the iCloud settings, Storage & Backup, it shows the backup from the iPhone 4. This backup is taking up a lot of space on my phone and I would like to delete to avoid having to purchase more space. However, I know I have pictures on this backup from the iPhone 4 that I would like to view and save on my computer if at all possible before deleting. Is it possible to view the photos from this backup? If so, how? Thank you in advance for any assistance. I hope this makes sense, lol, I'm not very computer literate.
Unfortunately with the issues I mentioned above I don't even think I have enough space for that on the computer! I have literally moved all moy pictures, music, etc. to another drive and all that's left are some small docs and applications. I don't know how to find any more space on the thing and can't get things updated until I fix this...

When I plug in my iPod nano 4th gen to iTunes and click on my iPod, I can see a graph showing how much space is available on my iPod and what it is being taken up by. A lot of space is taken up by 'other'. What is this? I have a big iTunes library, with about 2000 songs, so I don't want all this space taken up by something I don't know what it is. How can I get rid of it?
OmniDiskSweeper is a good program to see what's taking up space: http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/

I am unable to find any videos. Where should I look? I do not want to sync them; they are large files.
The same question applies to "other." What is it and where do I find "other?"
Thank you.How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

My iPhone 4s notified me that I had to manage my storage so I deleted apps that used a lot of space I deleted almost all my picture and it still keeps telling me I don't have enough storage is there any other way I can make room on my phone ? Were it shows how much storage I have available it still says 9.9 even after all that I have done so I don't know if I need to change my storage plan or what but anything will help I guess
Check for 'others' in iTunes against your iPhone.
Restore from a previous backup to reclaim some of it.
Still want more, Restore in iTunes, setup as New.
