Vista Audigy 2 ZS CMSS

Ive heard that people on the forums as edited the x-fi installer for audigy 2 ZS cards to allow CMSS 2 and CMSS Stereo Surround.. is this true? if so where can i download these from, as at the moment the surround is crap in Vista and i miss my stereo surround?many regards

No you do not get Stereo Surround back. What you get are Microsoft's Enhancements, which are available for other devices, when using Microsoft's default drivers. Here is a description of what the settings do. After reinstalling the drivers with the edited INF file, you should see the "Enhancement" tab in Control Panel>Sound>Playback>Speakers and selecting "Properties" from the lower right corner. You can also go there from the Volume Mixer icon on the taskbar. Basicly, you can now access advanced Bass Redirection options (even redirecting sub?to full-range speakers, if you have correctly configured your speakers' settings?before), a "better than CMSS"? upmixing engine (Speaker Fill) and Room Correction (which is does what the THX Console used to, but automatically). Room Correction I would only recommend if you have an appopriate microphone, otherwise the measurements would be false and it will severely distort your audio.

  • What happened to new Vista Audigy Drive

Okay, so I check for new Vista drivers (with apps so I can use MIDI and soundfonts!) for my Audigy card every night. I was hopeful when X-Fi drivers were released last week. No Audigy drivers? Did I miss something? WILL there be new Vista 32 drivers with apps for Audigy cards or is CL abandoning them completely?
If CL goes down that path, what X-Fi cards will do MIDI with soundfont apps (like XP soundfont manager - loading soundfont banks into computer memory)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. So much frustration!
    Thanks,
    RM

dear one and all! greetings to all who are breaking their head after buying vista and trying to make their 5. system woking. i downloaded the vista audigy driver from the support site of creative but i have lets say only 0 per cent of the performance. there is no 5. output, no add on drivers and no mixers , the usual hoopla hapla one gets while buying new hardware! i was wondering if the moderators could help me ! what shoud i do get 5. audio with vista and audigy. i already have the vista driver. it doesnt seem to help. please help! thanks in advance!

  • Win7 - Audigy 2 ZS - CMSS

    Win7 - Audigy 2 ZS - CMSS7 Hello everyone,
Before you all start thinking, ohh he just registered to get what he wanted, yes your right, thats what i have done.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on my computer today, before installing Windows 7 i was using XP Pro with SP3 installed.
I checked creative website for the latest drivers for my sound car (Audigy 2 ZS) and i found some drivers compatible with Windows 7 here, everything is working great, but i decided to install the EAX console so i could enable CMSS-3D, but this application isnt working, i have tried to enable XP compatible mode but no luck so far.
So the point of my post is to find out if there is a workaround this problem and to help anyone in the same position i am finding myself right now.
Thanks for the feedback in advance!

Have you checked in you?re audio console that you?re speaker settings are correct, ie 2xspeakers, headphones or what it is that ?ou use!! because if you have stereo speakers instead of headphones (if you use headphones), that could make the faulty surround you are experiancing!!?
    Hope that helped?

  • Vista, Audigy LS and the microph

I've upgraded my system to Vista Business, and my sound is working fine with the Audigy LS. However, the microphone jack in the control panel says that it is unavailable. I cannot find anyway to enable, activate or anything. I can see on the boards, that I'm not the only one having serious issues Sound Blaster cards in Vista.
I tried searching through the boards for a fix, but I haven't seen anything.
Does anyone know a fix for this, or am I waiting for a new driver?like everyone else?

    michelinok,
Have you tried headphones or a set of stereo speakers in the green jack and then run the Speaker Settings speaker test? Also, you could try the front (working) speaker plug in the other output jacks (black and yellow/orange).

  • Audigy 2 ZS CMSS Quest

I've got an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum CMSS enabled, EAX and all that jazz, yet the simulated surround sound using headphones during games sounds a bit abrupt to me. Say, in Call of Duty 2 with EAX3 enabled, if a plane is flying over my head from left to right, I'll hear it in my left headphone and just cut off and go over to the right. It won't pan over smoothly, so it doesn't sound natural. Same thing if someone is shooting a gun next to me.
Am I missing a setting somewhere? ...or am I just spoiled by the one evening I did have with the X-Fi? Anything I should check for.
My onboard Realtek AC'97 had an HTRF demonstration with a buzzing bee that was really good at positional audio, so I'm figuring I must be doing something wrong with a high-end soundcard not pulling this off.
I'm using the latest BETA drivers from the Creative site, if that means anything.

  • Windows Vista Audigy 2 ZS FULLY WORKING see h

Ill be quick about this cause I know like most of you I was banging my head as to how to get this to work. This is what I did and its been playinng for hours without any garble. If you deviate from what I have done, post it if theres a quicker way.
I installed the drivers from the disc that I got with the set, you will get alot of errors but it should still install fine. I would also assume you can DL the orginal NOV9 driver and install under compatability mode. (DL to desktop--->right click---->properties----->compatability and change to XP) install and reboot.
Next, I installed the 2nd driver set (april5) and instead of installing under compatibilty mode, I opened the .exe with WINRAR and went to Drivers---->Support----->i386----->ctzapxx.exe and select "driver install" and leave "overwrite existing drivers" unchecked.
Reboot and let me know how it worked.Message Edited by tripy on 07-3-2005 08:23 AM

Now I have the same card, Audigy 2 ZS, and i used your method, making the first driver install compatable and then extracting the second one but it didnt work. First off when i extracted it i didnt see all those folders, for me i opened drivers and the file you were talking about was there. i installed it and a message came up telling me this driver was older then the one i was currently installing... did it anyways and still didnt work, maybe i am doing something wrong? Still getting Gargling...
Another thing is has this driver effected anyone elses Aol Instant Messanger?

  • Need help with Vista & Audigy

Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me out. At first, with all the latest Creative Drivers, there was absolutely no option for "What U Hear". I got fed up and uninstalled the drivers completely. When Vista restarted, it began downloading it's own drivers for my SE, which kinda surprised me. For the heck of it, I checked again and wouldn't you know it..."What U Hear" was now suddenly available and works well....by itself. This is my problem. I need "What U Hear" to work AS WELL AS my microphone. I'm stuck with either one or the other. Not good. Is there any conceivable way to record what I hear AND what I say into my mic? I'm open to any solution, even if it means jerry-rigging it some ugly way. Please help?

Kaelthas: I just went iinto Device Manager, and chose to uninstall the drivers. Then Windows prompted me to make sure I want to "Completely uninstall this device". So I said yes. I originally did this hoping to go back to my onboard sound, but when Windows restarted, it automatically began searching for drivers. I was leery about stopping it, so I let it go. When it was done, I checked the Recording tab again, and POOF! What U Hear was available.
I don't know why or how, but What U Hear works. And if I keep the level no higher than 80-ish, there's no static or feedback or any distortion whatsoever.
Now...everyone keeps telling me to mess with the Registry to get mic boost back. I've done this, and the DWORD for MicBoost is now 0x000000 instead of 0x0000000, but it didn't seem to work. My mic seems totally unaffected.

  • "Upgraded" to newest Vista 64 xfi drivers, now cmss 3d doesnt w

I just updated to the newest drivers for my X-Fi xtrememusic (2 8 00000. June 2 2008) for Vista 64 and now CMSS 3d does absolutely nothing. Changing from surround to expand and sliding the bar around has no effect what-so-ever. Other than that everything else seems to work ok. Anyone know what I can do sor myself

I think it has to do with the fact that I cannot get it to install the creative audio console because the installation program gets rid of the setup files in the temp folder before it can use them and prompts me to find layout.bin in the AudCon folder in my temp folder that has been erased. I can see it be created, but cannot catch it before it is deleted. This is the same problem that has been plaguing Creative's drivers for vista for a very long time now. I have to use the work around to get the drivers and the Console Launcher to install, but cannot get it in time for the Audio Console to install. I can't believe Creative has not addressed this issue!
Can someone provide me with the unpacked files or a working installer please I wish creative could int he first place......
    This customer.... NOT HAPPY!
    New info:
I just got the 2_5_0006 drivers on which installed the audio console just fine and I still h ave no CMSS 3d!

  • Headphones CMSS WinXP vs Win7

Hello... I have a little problem with my X-Fi Xtreme Music in Win7. I used WinXP before, except for a minor bug here and there, the card worked PERFECTLY. The sound was awesome.
I upgraded to Win7 x64 now and I encounter one major issue which bugs me beyond belief:
CMSS sounds a LOT worse in Win7, than it did in WinXP.
Why is that? I tried the drivers from Creative, as well as some Daniel K drivers. I had the issue with all of those.
What do I mean with 'sounds worse'? Simply put, if I use dual pistols in L4D2 and fire at a high rate, in WinXP there was no problem at all, regardless of the settings.
In Win7, I need to disable CMSS. Once enabled, the card seems to 'swallow' the sounds. If I fire fast enough, the shots suddenly get very silent, the surroundings get more silent..... In my opinion, it's as good as unplayable like this.
Same for music. If I enable CMSS, the further the slider goes towards 'surround', the worse the effect gets: Heavy bass is swallowed, it sounds like everything gets more silent for a very short moment, if a stronger bass kicks in.
Regardless of the mode (entertainment / gaming).
It's hard to describe and I guess my skills of describing an audio problem in english are very limited. I still hope for an answer, because I'm going nuts here. Maybe read this post twice, I can imagine it's kinda hard to read.
Help would be VERY appreciated. I'm about one week away of simply buying a different card.... Tried 2 forums so far, nobody could help me there, everyone being like 'Mine works fine' or 'Mine didnt work at all', my problem seems to be unknown.

Maybe i wasn t clear enough: I play FPS games ,but i dont use CMSS neither in XP or 7. The motivation is simple ,when i was using Audigy 2 leaving CMSS on made the positional sound to suck hard.So i off it with X-Fi too. I want plain stereo when using headphones(rarelly, it s bad for ears) or 2 speakers. If you re using multichannel headphones thats something else. 1.) I only use CMSS when i need to use my Logitech X 530 full 5.1 with mp 3 to upmix. 2.) EAX is emulated by Alchemy under W7 so you wont get correct postional with or without CMSS on. 3.) For listening music under XP or 7 you should use Foobar 2000 and it s ASIO plug in http://www.foobar2000.org/ . The sound in W7 is better in my opinion as perception overall ,less distorsions. You should also take a look at the Audio properties in W7 and try another sampling rate. 4.)You can use a dual boot XP and 7 anytime.

  • Is the CMSS headphone upmix EAX depende

In other words, if I play a game on Vista and it offers no OpenAL support is the virtual surround function of CMSS still functional?

As I understand it, CMSS headphone gets positional information about the actual sources of sounds in the game straight from DirectSound3D or OpenAL, assuming the games have hardware accelerated audio. So on games that rely on DirectSound3D, you would probably want to use ALchemy in order to get the best positional audio from CMSS on a Vista system. Otherwise, CMSS will emulate 2 speakers, or 5 speakers, or whatever you have set up. That's how I understand it anyway... seems a pretty confusing topic.
ALchemy ought to work for any such game... just a matter of finding the right settings for the ones that aren't on the list I guess.

  • EAX and CMSS-3D Through Optical TO Headphone Dac / Amp

I would like to have EAX and CMSS-3D to my external DAC / Headphone amp through optical toslink for my headphones. Is this possible?

/ Works for me and my Audigy 2 (when CMSS is actually working that is).
The thing with your digital out is that unless you're using something like the Dolby or DTS realtime encoder, it can only send out a stereo PCM signal, which is of course fine for headphones.

  • X-Fi CMSS-3D, Headphone surround, F.E.A.R. and Quak

    Hi there.
I'm trying to use the 'right' audio settings to play F.E.A.R. and Quake 4 using my new X-Fi Xtreme Music.
I'm a bit confused about when / when not to use CMSS-3D. Does it upmix a stereo mix to 'virtual' surround? Or does it enable OpenAL / DirectSound to produce further positional realism?
Should I turn it on when I'm playing with two speakers?
Should I turn it on when I'm playing with four speakers? (depends on how late/loud I can be!)
Most importantly, should I turn it on when I'm playing with headphones?
Or does it depend on the game itself?
    I'm a bit confused!

The easy question first... The surround/stereo settings are only relevant for Doom3/Quake4 when using the original non-OpenAL sound engine. In this mode, it outputs DIRECTLY to 2 channels or 5 channels on the stereo and surround settings respecti'vely. As far as the soundcard is concerned, it looks like you are playing a 2 channel or 5 channel sound file - ie. there is no 3D audio API involved. Now depending on your speaker and CMSS3D settings, you COULD get your X-Fi to "process" this output. For example, if you have 4 or more speakers selected, and you enable CMSS3D-Surround, AND you set Doom3 output to stereo (non-OpenAL mode), the X-Fi will use its upmixing algorithms to deri've 4/5/6/7 channels. Similarly, if you have 4 speakers, 2 speakers, or headphones selected, and you enable CMSS3D-Virtual, AND you set Doom3 output to surround (non-OpenAL mode), the X-Fi will use its HRTF virtualization algorithms to create 5 virtual speakers.
Regarding what exactly CMSS3D is, the best explanation is in the Soundblaster Audio Technologies Glossary (under Audio Playback Technologies) in the Creative Knowledgebase. Unfortunately, they use the same acronym (CMSS) to apply to both upmixing, HRTF based virtualization of multi-channel speakers, AND HRTF based spatialzation of 3D audio (arbitrary 3D coordinates are provided with the sound). The knowledgebase article describes CMSS as it is known in the Li've! and Audigy series. One inaccuracy with the table shown in the article - the one that describes what CMSS does based on the number of source channels and the number of speaker channels - is that 4 speakers mode also uses HRTF to spatialize 3D audio (while 5 or more channels does not).
With the release of the X-Fi, the terminolgy is cleared up a bit. You'll notice that depending on the speakers you have selected, you'll see either CMSS3D-Surround, CMSS3D-Virtual, or CMSS3D-Headphone. CMSS3D-Surround is the upmixing stuff, CMSS3D-Headphone is HRTF virtualization/spatialization, and CMSS3D-Virtual is virtualization/spatialization WITH cross-talk cancellation use for 2 or 4 speaker setu
    ps.
Notice that you get both CMSS3D-Virtual AND CMSS3D-Surround in 4 speaker mode, dependin on what the source material is (stereo or multi-channel). Finally, where the Audigy series had CMSS or CMSS2, where CMSS2 included simulated room acoustics, the X-Fi does simulated room acoustics when in Entertainment mode, but not Game mode. The room acoustics is good for movies and the effect is very similar to Dolby Headphone. In fact, I think the virtual acoustics sounds pretty decent for non-OpenAL/DirectSound3D games that output directly to multiple channels rather than going through 3D audio.
    Any more questions?

  • Is anyone else having problems with 5.1 speakers with iTunes 7?

After i installed iTunes 7, the muscic from my library was only playing in 2.1. Does anyone know how to get sound coming out of all my speakers (mine are 5.1). I have quicktime set at 48khz, 16bit, and 5.1, but i still only get music as though it was set at 2.1. I miss having surround sound so please if anyone knows anything about this i would appreciate it. My soundcard is the soundblaster audigy 2 ZS

I am having more or less the same problems as you guys. Currently I use a soundblaster audigy 4 with "CMSS 3D" function ... it used to work with itunes but started to get all weird with the 7.0 update. If nobody knows how to fix this I will have to use 6.xx again :/
I'd be grateful for any advice as well,

  • Mic-in & Line-in are blended on 24-bit external - can't

My old PCI SB li've allowed the mic and line-in to have cables plugged in at all times. You could even use the two interface ports?at the same time and the device settings windows showed them as separate settings. This is nessesary when pluggin in guitars/keyboards for learning purposes while leaving other devices such as the TV tuner card plugged in to the line-in. I just installed my new 24-bit'sUSB external and the mic & line in are blended in the device settings window?as "mic\line-in". AND you have to unplug one of them in order to allow?the other to function. Totally unacceptable!?Is there another driver to allow these ports to be separate? If not, it's going back to the store ASAP. thx.

Unfortunately no... The only notebook solution right now, that can in some degree do EAX under Vista is the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook (PCMCIA). Explanation:? This is the only notebook solution featuring a hardware DSP, which also means it shares the drivers with the Audigy/X-Fi and does support OpenAL .. This means under Vista OpenAL games such as Prey will have EAX... BUT:? Since DS3D has been removed from Vista, games that use EAX through DS3D (like FEAR) will not function, unless you use ALchemy (a DS3D to OpenAL wrapper). Unfortunately ALchemy is currently locked to the X-Fi series, but Creative has promised to make an Audigy version... Until then however there is currently no solution for DS3D+Vista+Audigy. PS:? There is also a new X-Fi Xtreme Audio ExpressCard available, but this is without a hardware DSP, so no OpenAL/EAX support for games. It is possible that Creative does write a software OpenAL EAX engine for this device (it could do for all soundcards indeed, but?this is?the new product), but for the time being this is only speculation.
