Vista blue screen on adding album artwork

Whenever I try to manually add artwork to my albums in itunes 7.4 my computer blue screens and restarts. It will get artwork off the internet quite easily but alot of my albums aren't on there, I just ordered a new ipod classic and I won't to be able to use the cover flow feature when it arrives.
Any suggestions?

There's a MS hotfix for Quicktime on Vista that seems to fix this problem. I'd guess that if you try and watch a TV Show or Movie through iTunes you'd get a blue screen there too. Try this and see if it fixes your problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932094
Hope that helps -- Dan

  • Help needed adding album artwork using Windows Vista

My computer is a PC running Windows Vista. I am missing some album artwork - some artwork from CDs I ripped to Windows Media Player and subsequently transferred to ITunes and my IPod Classic (120GB), and some artwork that is either missing from ITunes or incorrect album artwork. When I drag an album image from ITunes to my album artwork window, it won't copy, nor can I do it from Windows Media Player. Yes, I have enabled automatic download of artwork in ITunes, and yes, I have already read the basic adding album artwork article, and I am not able AT ALL to do any kind of drag and drop.
I also noticed that my ITunes songs is missing album artwork that ITunes has a partial album for, but I have the FULL album (which I transferred from WMP)
    Any suggestions?

You can't copy the artwork from the iTunes Store...
You also won't have any joy if you're trying to add artwork to wav files as they don't support tags.
Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. Copy the image from the source, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I to *Get Info* and paste the image into the artwork box.

  • Vista - Blue screen of death "Unmountable_Boot_Volume" - how to boot vista?

Running Vista using parallels 6.0. Parallels mounts fine, but when I try to launch Vista I get a blue screen for a few seconds that says "UnmountableBootVolume" I have read on other help forums to clear this I will need to launch Vista from the original software disk by holding down the "R" key or "f3" or "delete" key. None of these work when trying to launch vista with the disk in the cd drive. How do I launch Vista from the original cd on a macbook pro. What is the magic key to make this happen?

Please post Parallels questions on the Parallels forums. Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products

  • Windows Vista Blue Screen on Startup

I have an iMac 21". I've installed Windows Vista 32bit and Boot Camp 3.0 as directed, however I keep getting a blue screen whenever Windows starts. It's hard to read it since the computer restarts so quickly, but I have the dump files from the blue screen if anyone needs them. Also, my eject button won't work on my Apple Wireless Keyboard even though Boot Camp installed the keyboard driver.

OK. Installed Boot Camp 3.1 and most of my problems seem to be solved except there is an odd hesitation in the sound at startup. The Windows startup sound doesn't play. But by the time the desktop comes up, the logon chime sounds. Slow drivers?

  • Adding Album Artwork in iTunes

Is there any easy way to add album artwork other than saving eight hundred pictures and adding them song by song?? It would make sense to allow users to drag the artwork from the store pages straight onto the artwork box in iTunes. What's the big deal? Everything else is so easy, why is this so strange? I have to be missing something painfully obvious. iTunes does it for you when you buy songs, but why can't you add the artwork for your own cds in an easier manner?
Why not just make it easy? I don't write code or programs, but I know there's got to be a way. I should be able to click on the links beside my album names, go directly to the album in the iTunes music store, and drag the artwork onto the box. That sounds so logical, how could this not be available. I'm not advocatiing Windows media player, but you don't have to lift a finger ... it does it for you.

If the artwork is visible within iTunes for the songs, then re-sync the iPod to iTunes.
If this did not help, then Restore the iPod and put the music back on from iTunes.

  • Changing song names and adding album artwork

Some of the songs that i imported into itunes by some artists, lets say for example "Less Than Jake" shows up as "less than jake" (uncapitalized) when i go to change the first letter which is an "l" to a capital "L" i successfully change the name in itunes and then when i am done changing ti and click on another song it just goes back to lower case
does anyone know how to fix that so that the names that i fix stay fixed not just go back
Another question that i have is some of my artists albums do not have album artwork and when i right click on the album and say get album artwork nothing happens. And i already registered with itunes store so its not that it wont get the album artwork because i didn't register with itunes. Is there anyway to copy the album picture from the internet and get it associated with that specific album in itunes anyway?
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    Greg,
Are you just typing over the name as it appears in your iTunes library?
I am not familiar with the Windows version, but in the Mac version, the best way to edit song title/artist/genre, etc is to select a song and then "Get Info" - in the Mac version that is under the "File" menu - a right click will probably work for you. There are several tabs on the Get Info screen - go to the "Info" tab and you will see what to do.
As for album artwork, iTunes has been pretty good about finding artwork for for those albums which I purchased from the iTunes store, but was no help at all in finding art for the (many) albums I ripped from my CDs.
You COULD find the album art yourself, using Google 'Images' but I think you will find it to be too tedious, and most of the album cover JPEGs you will find by that method are too small and of poor quality.
It would be better to use a third party application. For Mac users I can recommend Fetch Art (http://members.cox.net/afriesen3//fetchart/index.html); I expect there is something similar for Windows, but I can't be specific.

  • Vista Blue Screen after Successful Boot Camp installation (32 and 64 bit)

OK so there are a number of people with issues relating to the BSoD after a successful (or not) implemetation of Bot Camp and Windows XP and/or Vista. One of the identified problems relates to the NVIDIA GEforce 9600m GT display driver which crashes out AFTER windows performs its update routine.
Having removed and installed the partition (to ensure a clean install each time), the inescapable conclusion is that the NVIDIA driver is to blame for the crash dump, but it is one of the many MS updates that is the root cause of the failure. If you do a clean install of Vista 32 or 64 Ultimate and install the Boot Camp 2.1 (build 1256) and DO NOT allow updates, the system is not only stable, it runs like a train!
I have Contacted AppleCare about this (as my new MBP is only a few days old) and they have not even heard of the problems. NVIDIA have obviously got issues with something as the driver has been updated to a BETA on their web site, but this will not work on a Mac as it cannot seem to find the hardware to allow the update to complete.
If (like me) you have bought an MBP for support issues for both Mac and Windows users, this is a showstopper and one that is about to cause me to ask for my money back. So far, the nice shiny and new MBP is back in its box pending a 140 mile trip back to Exeter from whence it came.
    SHARK!

Boot Camp was a response to public challenges at the time to see who could find how to install Windows on a Mac - which is totally okay thing.
Then you want Apple to do more than any normal PC vendor selling a laptop where people have to do things like deal with BIOS, drivers and all the things you have had to deal with, for Windows.
I'm not disagreeing, let alone arguing, I agree that hardware abstraction layer type stuff Apple would need to do. But I don't think Apple needs to do more than get Windows installed. Drivers, AV, and all the stuff that comes with Windows doesn't change. But it should not BSOD when you install something you are told you need.
I wouldn't be surprised though to see Windows 7 eventually support Apple hardware out of the box so to speak.
Cookie cutter answers are part of today's customer experience "level one" is no level at all, but a lot of times - and it takes a lot of work - to translate feedback and problems into "cook book" before you get to the troubleshooting (level 2 and above).
Which is why I read sites like MacIntouch; subscribe to MacFixit (tons of articles on a CD along with shareware). And books.
Nvidia has terrible drivers in OS X on the Mac Pro (workstation) while ATI has had very good drivers and OpenGL support.
I prefer to have more choice and freedom when it comes to drivers. As for engineering and how things get qualified (use to see even SCSI hard drives had to be qualified for both the OS; the controller to be used; driver version; firmware; etc).
What I see is the first shipped BIOS/EFI firmware on any device or system is not the one you want.
Back in the 70's I was introduced to "bleeding edge" but we would get premiere on-site support if we were willing to install, adopt, some new IBM service, software/hardware. And sometimes we were there on Sunday on holiday weekends.
One person just could NOT after doing everything under the sun, get Adobe CS4 to install on their new $5000 Mac Pro 2009. Got a new system, worked perfectly.
In 2008 Early Mac Pro, most all systems would freeze on wake from sleep. Took two months before an EFI update was issued that cured the problem. There is/was also a problem with "inrush current" and PSU.
I had Blue Screen with Vista. Repeatedly.
At first I thought it was a new MICROSOFT 4000 keyboard.
Later I wondered if it was my Apple OEM Nvida 7300GT (and some are failing but it worked in OS X) so I bought 2nd, a PC 8600GTS.
And pull 3rd party PCI Express controllers (FW800, SATA 1x, SATA 8x cards).
Came away and thought "oh, it was the 3rd party card" when that seemed to work.
Around the same time I had bought a new WD Caviar 750GB SATA drive.
It was that drive that would cause problems with Vista after the install.
I thought it was something in Microsoft Windows Update that was causing my personal ****, not my equipment. And MS for their drivers. Somebody else's.
And mind you, I would go through install half a dozen times, try installing Boot Camp before updates, after updates, not at all, add AV software.
I finally -- after a full year -- learned a lot (don't learn from things just working and I still say it has always been "Plug and Pray" PnP ) things work. I know the frustration and aggravation and the wish that things were different somehow.
The BSODs that I got were not from Apple Boot Camp. I even ran my system w/o Boot Camp for six months. And this time, with Win7, everything worked fine, wake, sleep, networking, no need for Apple drivers. At all.
I hang out on a forum where people build their own, X58 board, Intel Core i7, eVGA graphics. And how to get even DDR3 to work, and then how to get the most out of and push it to the extreme, then throttle back a notch.
The nice thing about that is you learn from it, like you do from racing and sports, to build a better mousetrap.
Nvidia is bleeding. Even as they and ATI want to stay on leading edge. Intel is contracting (even as they have their best cpu technology ever coming out) and costs that should go into R&D may be harder to "justify" or all the prototype programmers engineers and testing labs. Everything is more commoditized than ever.
Bottom line: I have Leopard 10.5.6. It has Boot Camp 2.1.2 version, later than the 2.1 download. And there has not been a single update posted online. But my original Leopard DVD 10.5.0 has the SAME contents packaged as 2.0 as were in the 1.4 Beta. I spend $129 for a new DVD to get the latest drivers. Make sense?? of course not.
Oh, and my Mac with 64-bit hardware, cpu, the EFI BIOS is 32-bit so no official support from Apple to install BC 2.1.2 or use Vista 64-bit. Snow Leopard will be 64-bit kernel, require and enforce 64-bit drivers. Should be interesting. Because technically, and logic, would say I don't have a true 64-bit BIOS environment.
Got an iMac? not supported with 64-bit. MacBook 2008 had 64-bit support, but not the "Late 2008" there you need MacBook Pro. And yet everyone wants to address more than 2GB (Apple EFI32 allows access to 3.3GB on some, 1.9GB on others, and in my Mac Pro? limited to 1.9GB memory in Windows.... so you know I don't want to run a Xeon workstation in Windows 32-bit.

  • Deleting and Adding Album Artwork

I am able to add album artwork from saved files onto iTunes, but if I want to delete an image that iTunes gave the song, which is wrong, it won't let me. The image is still there after I hit delete and then OK.
Also, I added an image that wasn't from an album, and while it's on iTunes, it won't carry over onto my iPod.

  • N500 with Vista blue screen/crash

Hi there, I bought a N500 (5ZG) with Vista Home Basic three months ago, and generally I'm happy. Unfortunately, every now and then, the system crashes with the blue screen coming up. There's no specific reason that I could identify, meaning it happens independent of what software/application I run
I've upgraded to Vista service pack 2 hoping it would sort it out; it didn't. I also have the latest BIOS update from Lenovo. Has anyone any idea what's going on here? Thanks.

Thanks, Harm. It will help in giving the shop some kind of direction because they miss things even though it is their actual job to know these things.
I've felt that it was running hot, they had mentioned re-appling thermal paste to the processor a couple days ago but didn't stress it.
There are 2 different blue screen issues and one is solved:
    1. The original irreparable crash which prompted me getting a new HD.
    2. The blue screen crash... on the NEW harddrive.... whenever I tried to open Premiere.(which apparently was solved when they re-installed
Windows a 2nd time on my brand new HD because my computer no longer Blue screen crashes when Premiere loads.
Addressing the heat issue could prevent future BSOD crashes and may have prevented the original crash.
Also, does BSOD refer to the irreparable crashes which render your HD useless or ANY crash where a blue screen appears?   I have been using BSOD to refer to a complete/total/final HD crash.
I don't smoke but these series of mishaps may get me started.

  • Vista Blue Screen after PC Suite 6.83 Install

After installing PC Suite 6.83 vista continuously blue screens during boot. The only way I have found to recover the system is to user the system restore.
The blue screen looks like the system is trying to load a new driver supplied with PC suite 6.83 but fails with a blue screen.
I'm using Vista Ultimate.. anybody actually got PC suite 6.83 on vista working or have any suggestions?

"Just take a look to the discussions board... 6.83 is a bug! It does not work well. For Vista, you must wait for 6.84..."
6.83 was written for and tested in Vista. I'm running it without any problems whatsoever.
".. or another new version. If possible, use 6.82, because there is no problem with that version."
6.82 didn't work properly in Vista, which is why we had 6.83.

  • I have spent a long time getting my iTunes library fixed up. Adding album artwork to songs that had no album artwork, added artist and all the other metadata that goes into a song. How can I move my library exactly the way it is to my new computer?

It would be great if anyone could answer this, I don't feel like having to go through all my songs again and redo them.

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
