Vista cannot find my ipod

Okay. Here's the deal. I restored my ipod yesterday night. And this morning when everything was fine until i try to place songs on my ipod, when i said Sync it popped up saying i didn't have the right disk or something like that. I closed itunes hoping that maybe just re-opening the thingy would work-the syncing thingy. But than after that it didn't see my ipod. I was like...uh okay. So i unplugged it and replugged it in, and than my computer said my ipod was an unknown device. So i began searching on the internet, most ppl said install the latest version of itunes. But i had the latest version and my itunes even told me i had the latest version when i attempted to update it just in case. 7.7. Than my dad said just restore my computer, so i did. Didn't work. Than i reinstalled itunes, also didn't work. Rebooted my computer nothing. I opened it again, leaving my ipod plugged in (someone suggested it on a fourm i looked up) and it didn't work. Am i really annoyed, i've been trying to find a solution to this for HOURS!!! Thankfully itunes is working and i could listen to my music. But that doesn't help my ipod at all. It's still not be recoginzed. Any help would be useful. I wrote an email to vista too, but i'm not sure if its actually Vista or itunes (because itunes usually spots the ipod).
I have a second generation Nano. Hope that if anyone has the any help that would be amazing! Thanks

The same thing is happening with my iPod touch, and there is this annoying little pop up thing that keeps coming up saying my Moblie Driver device cannot be found or something like that. I am hoping that it is just my iPod and not my computer because I am getting the iPhone and that will SUCK if it won't sink to my computer. (oh and if it makes a difference my computer is BRAND new, I have only had it a few months.
