Vista Circuit Design Suite - DEP

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium, last reformat was 2 months ago, no issues until after installing Circuit Design Suite 10.0.144.
After installing, Windows began throwing me Data Execution Prevention (DEP) errors during startup.
The error reads something like this "Data Execution Prevention has closed Parts of Logos"
First of all, Logos is a brilliant name... try searching google for more information about it .
Anyways, upon returning zero relevant results for the error string, I bightened up a bit because at least I didn't have some form of malware.
After doing a search of my computer all results were relates to folders named logos or dlls and msis.
All contained within a folder called National Instruments, which brings me here.
The next step was to examine what services belonged to National Instruments and opened on startup.
I found:
National Instruments Domain Service
National Instruments PSP Server Locator
National Instruments Time Synchronization
NI Service Locator
1) Are all of these services installed with Circuit Design?
2) Are they all necessary to load on Start-Up? (I only use the software once a week or so)
3) Whoever designed it does know that loading services on startup is bad... right?
I opened the Event Viewer next to find the exact exe causing the problems.  In the starup sequence, the only error is with nidmsrv.exe.  The error message is below:
"Faulting application nidmsrv.exe, version 4.7.0.44, time stamp 0x44c69afd, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x736f6700, process id 0x3d0, application start time 0x01c80ea9d20316d8."
When searching for the executable, I found it located in     "F:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\Security"     F being the partition where I install any unessential software.
4) Solutions?  Ideally I'd like to just turn the services off so they don't execute during startup, but you should really fix this too.  I wouldn't have bothered you if I wasn't confident that the problem is with your software, thanks for your time.

Hi rpk5000:
These services are installed with Circuit Design Suite. They primarily for the LabVIEW runtime engine. I cannot tell you what will happen if you set them to disabled (it is not supported), but you may encounter errors when using some of the LabVIEW functionality.
There is an update to Circuit Design Suite, 10.0.1 (also known as 10.0.343), that supports Vista. The version you are running 10.0 (also known as 10.0.144), is not supported on Vista.
You can get the update through the Support and Upgrade Utility or from the website (I prefer ftp: ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/circuitdesignsuite/10.0.1/, then select the appropriate link depending on which version you have.)

I checked the forums at NI and found a similar problem with a computer with Windows Vista installed. I have Windows XP Professional installed on the computer, but tried the update through the self updating feature of the NI software.
After the update the problem remains exactly the same.
To find out more about the error, I checked several Windows properties to identify the cause of the problem. One thing I found was on the Services control, under Administrative Tools. After the error message during boot, the services window shows up 2 services whose status is "Stopping" and the startup type is "Automatic". This services are:
    Lookout Citadel Driver
    National Instruments Time Sincronization
I'm using an IBM ThinkPad T30 (Type 2366-BG1) with Windows XP Professional with 768Mb of memory, 80GB HDD.
Can anyone give me some hints on this matter?
    Thank you in advance.

    Good morning.
I tried the steps suggested but the problem remained. I then decided to try some aditional steps and apparently the problem is solved. I describe the steps I took bellow.
The problem was related to my antivirus / firewall solution, Panda Antivirus + Antispyware 2007.
    1. I changed the previously mentioned Windows services startup to "Manual" instead of "Automatic".
    2. Rebooted the computer.
    3. Opened the services control in Administrative Tools.
    4. Selected the first service "Citadel..." and pressed the "Start" button.
    5. After a few seconds, the firewall solution presented a window stating that the program was attempting to access the internet (or my LAN). I selected "Always allow".
    6. I repeated this step for all the others NI services. Some produced the same feedback, others didn't.
    7. Changed the startup type of the services to the values I had written down before.
    8. Rebooted the computer and everything worked fine.
It seems my firewall solution is unable to cope with a program trying to access the Internet (or network) before a user logs in.
    Thank you for your support.
    Best regards,

  • Where Can I Find Components And Footprints Not Included In The Circuit Design Suite Databases?

One of the most common questions asked by users of the Multisim and Ultiboard suite is about finding components. From time to time you may come across the need of a particular component or footprint (lanbdpattern) that is not included in the master databases. So where can you look for these components? There are multiple places to begin your search, both 3rd party and from NI that are free and readily accessible:
One of the long-standing free resources is the Kittmaster's Component Database which is maintained by Kittmaster (Chris) one of our proven active veterans of this board as well as a Beta Tester of the Circuit Design Suite. You will find a vast collection of already built parts in Multisim and Ultiboard formats that have been submitted by users like you that have register on kittmaster's database and that actively upload custom component creations. I encourage you to register and share.
NI has recently created the Circuit Design Community in response to requests from users around the world. The Circuit Design Community aims to provide an open resource for designers that need or would like to share Multisim components, Ultiboard footprints, sample design files and other documents that are of use for the design community. The basic difference between the Circuit Design Community and this Circuit Design Discussion Forum is that the Community is tailored for document and file sharing, whereas the Forum is designed with problem solving, tip sharing and general support questions in mind. Again, I encourage you not only to search, but also to share any components you may have created that are useful for other designers.
Most manufacturers that offer SPICE or PSPICE models in their websites would typically allow you to download them free of charge, in most cases accepting a license agreement. The first step is to identify who the manufacture of the part you are looking for is, as well as cross-reference manufacturers. Then search in their corresponding websites for the product folder or design resources section. If you find SPICE or PSPICE models you can easily import those when creating a new component, remember that Multisim is highly compatible with PSPICE models, and every new release adds more compatibility. If you cannot find the model, it does not hurts to call or email the manufacture and ask directly if they have such models, in many cases they are not advertised in the web.
Last, but not least, use your favourite internet search engine and see if anyone out there has posted or worked on a similar model.
Thank you for using the support resources and I hope that these options fulfill most of the component searches that you may need to do.

You can have a look at some established projects that are using similar tools - where do they put the application files etc.

  • Problem installing Circuit Design Suite - "Error while initializing resource loader"

I am attempting to install v 10.0.1 of the Circuit Design Suite (Education and Student Edition).  Immediately after starting the install process I get the message "Error while initializing Resource Loader!" and the installer exits.  My computer meets the minimum system requirements (512 MB RAM, 20 GB free hard drive space, Windows XP, etc).
Any suggestions for how to work around this problem so I can get Multisim installed?

    Hi John,
I'm not sure if you still have issues with the Multisim installer. But just in case here are some comments:
Are you using a CD to install Multisim? If yes, try copying the installer to your hard drive.
Try installing Multisim on a different machine.
Apparently the Resource Loader is related to Java, try un-reinstalling it, upgrading to the latest release, etc.
Let us know how it works,

  • Circuit Design Suite 10.1. Evaluation error. Evaluation period is expired?

    Hi!
I'm a student from Portugal and recently (Monday, March 23rd 2009) I have downloaded the evaluation version for the Circuit Design Suite 10.1 that includes MultiSim 10.1...
Everything went perfect during the installation, but when I tried to run the actual application, an error box showed up saying "An unexpected licensing error has occurred. Contact National Instruments Technical Support at ni.com/support to resolve this issue."
I tried to open the application one more time, and this time, the evaluation option is disabled with a new message next to it: "Your evaluation for this product has expired."
Now, I went through the license file for MultiSim, and somewhere in the middle of it I could spot the following line, "INCREMENT Multisim_Edu_PKG nilm 10.0101 22-apr-2009", which I believe to be the expiring date of my evaluation...
Can you help me with this issue?
    Best regards,
    Antonio Rodrigues

    Hi Antonio,
    Thanks for
posting on the National Instruments Forum.
    Can you
Repair your installation? Does it work? If it does not work you can uninstall
your Multisim (don't forget the Windows Registry; HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\National
Instruments, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\National Instruments Delete the Multisim
    Key) the reinstall Multisim.
Moreover, if you downloaded the evaluation, make sure you have unzipped the
    files in your local disk.

  • NI Circuit Design Suite 10 Core configuration

When I launch MultiSim 10 Student edition, instead of the yellow NI flash screen I periodically get a Windows box labelled "NI Circuit Design Suite 10 Core" that contains the message "Please wait while Windows configures NI Circuit Design Suite 10." This process takes a minute or so before the yellow flash screen finally appears to indicate that the program is loading.
Is there something incomplete about the installation, or is this an expected behavior?
    Thanks,
    Rick McCall

Thanks Nestor. I did try that. I have since discovered what appears to be the cause.
Apparently there are two files that are part of the NI Core named comutil.dll and se.exe. Unfortunately, these are also the names of two ubiquitous spyware programs "Comet Cursor," and "Look2Me." My spyware removal program has been regularly removing them and thus forcing the program to re-install these pieces of the core. I have marked them to be ignored and hope that this solves the problem.
    All the best,
    Rick

  • How do you silently install the network license to Circuit Design Suite

After a silent install of Circuit Design Suite you still have to manually tell it the network license details. Is there a silent install for this too?

There are a couple of reasons you might see this error:
    1. Make sure when you are creating the network installer, you are pointing to the root of the CD, containing setup.exe.
    2. There was an issue with the first release of the network installer that would cause this error. The issue was resolved with a maintenance release.
See this knowledge base article for more information.

  • Library Transfer from Ulitcap & Ultiboard 2001 to NI Circuit Design Suite 10

    Hi there,
I have recently upgraded to the NI Circuit Design Suite 10 from Ulticap & Ultiboard 2001.
I loved the old software so much that it broke my heart when it started to fail me causing me to upgrade, I never had any issue's with this software OK Ultiboard 2001 did regulary crash (Every 5 Minutes) but I learned how to get round this and used it in Anger on many many occasions.
But this has now left me with a Dilema.
I have Customer Librarys, and Schematics in Ulticap which I am unable to Import into Mutisim, and when I do they are not displayed correctly same as Ultiboard 2001, yes I can view the files but I am yet again unable to Import the Librarys
Has anyone else ever had this issue, and if so could they talk me through it.
I wish the software had never changed, as I always hated "EWB" as I never found it reliable enough when I was college, and I am now seeing it as part of my favourite software, but I suppose this is progress.
So all of my settings are wrong and I am as of yet unable to how to alter them back to how I liked to work, so on a recent design I stopped using Multisim and went back to Ulticap it was quicker and easier to use, but I not prepared to throw £2,000 away, so any assistance on this would me much appreciated.

    Hi Jim!
I am very pleased to read about your problems - i suffer the same sh.. since the last 3 days. Oh god give us UltiCap back!
We found out that our Components (mostly ATMEL Prozessors, RAMs, Powerdevices from  SGS and so on) failed in MultiSim.
    I tried the following way:
Put the UltCap Library on a sheet, read with MultiSim and the put the Components to the new Database.
At the moment it is a total desaster!
The Pin descriptors (e.g. CLK or VCC ) shift their locations. Ok no Problem. Open the Component in MultiSim with the Editor and shift the descriptors back.
Everything looks fine in the Editor - save it.
The Component now looks good even in MultiSim - now the next Step => Save this Component to the User-Database.
This is done easily with some more clicks (allways clicking around..).
    No the Test.
Place the Component out the Database.
    Desaster!
The Pin descriptors shift again AND the worse thing the PIN numbers arew totaly mixed up (e.g. VCC = PIN 30 is then PIN 12 and so on..)
I tried for 2 days now. I can't believe it.
A long time i hoped to come around this update and thougt NI will make the EWB-Stuff more professionel but it is going worse i think at the moment.
Very bad that they offer no actual Libs to buy. The handfull of processors the offer is just stuff for students end even they would lough about it.
We had to make designs and were awaiting a real tool - but MultiSim is it not.
Anyway if it works converting the Libs are you interessting in exchanging the UserDatabases?
Would be nice to here from you!

  • Uninstall NI circuit design suit 10.1.1

    hi...
i installed NI circuit design suit 10.1.1 education version...
it is not installed properly....then when i want to install again ...it is saying higher version of NI circuit design suit is installed
so what i did is, i removed the files in the program files and i un-installed in the control panel (add or remove programs)
....but even then my problem is not solving....
so please if anyone know how to uninstall so that i will installit again
my Operating system is windows XP...

The uninstaller has always been a turd and never deletes all reg entries and files it installs, this has been a mess since version 7.  To this day, it acts the same way.......I've mentioned it many times throughout, but nothing ever gets done to fix it.  Just manually delete the files.

  • Problem installing Circuit Design Suite

I'm trying to install the Circuit Design Suite10.1.1 on to a 64-bit Wnidows 7 Enterprise installation. Right after the installer has me specify the destination directory, I get the following error:
***Error: Windows SDK function returned an error. (Error Code -12)
    ***End Error Report
When I close that error, the installer closes. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? I've seen that error reported on the boards here, but in other circumstances.
    Additional information:
Along with Circuit Design, I'm also installing ELVISmx 4.1.0. There are no other NI products installed on this machine. Let me know whatother info I should provide.

Ummm.... what does this have to do with LabVIEW?
Not knowing anything about that product, other than it's for schematic capture, I'd say you are having the same problem that others who have tried to install older versions of LabVIEW on Windows 7 are having: Windows SDK Error (-12) when Installing LabVIEW on Windows 7.

    You are welcome, Priscilla.
If you have upgraded to Yosemite without reinstalling CS3, you may uninstall in the same way as you normally uninstall, then install again in the same way as when you first installed it. You may rn the Cleanar Tool in between, to be on the safe side with regard to strange things lingering, but it should be unnecessary if everything has worked before the Yosemite upgrade.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
As mentioned, you should update your CS3:

  • Design Suite - Upgrade just PS to CS4?

    Hi
This probably was posted before (but this Jive software's search sucks so bad I haven't bothered to look), anyway can I simply buy a Photoshop Extended CS4 upgrade and apply it to the Photoshop installed as part of my Design Suite CS3? Purely a technical question - will  PS CS4 install and will PS CS3 still be there and functional?
I need to start getting up to speed with PS CS4 and there's really no production related need to go the whole 600.00 Suite upgrade route - yet. It looks like the rest of the apps won't benefit from 64-bit code till CS5 (fall 2010) and the PS CS4 upgrade won't go to waste since we have multiple licenses to update in the future. And yes, I know about all that legal, activation stuff associated with that last statement. Thank you for your time.

Thanks Bob, I'll look into that. I'm sorta being a bit pissy because PS is the application used in production around here - I was able to get the design suite because of marketing dept support (DW, ID etc.); there's no way the marketing guy needs to spend the money to get what they need already w/CS3 (they don’t really care how it gets done). And I use those tools so little that I really can't justify a suite upgrade - except to maintain continuity.
It's all about $$$ in a deep recession in an extremely competitive environment. Those are not assumptions. Right now I can justify doing all eight of our PS licenses to PS CS4 upgrades based on a feature set and 64-bit robustness. However, even that is troublesome because half of those CS3 machines are running XP-64 - wait - not supported by CS4! I'll let you talk to our IT manager about Vista or Win 7 .
So yeah, it's tough figuring out which way to go on this, and don't even get me started on my personal set up - what do I do with my Master Collection? There, I need to get going on PS CS4 to keep my ‘real job’ skills up to snuff, but shelling a grand out for ‘just’ that without the PP and AE (I’m just now messing w/video and AE never installed properly) soon-to-be CS5 64-bit updates you mentioned would be just stupid. I’m probably not the only Suite user who’s in this boat, trying to keep our business’ afloat while navigating not just Adobe’s “must have” upgrades, but MS’s multi-OS confusion as well.
This all fits well into The Paradox of Choice, and Adobe, MS, even Google are feeling the effect. It's why PS 7 is still so popular...

  • Will Adobe Design Suite CS6 work for my computer?

I'm looking into getting adobe's design and web premium CS6 suite, but wasn't sure if would be compatible with my computer. I will admit I know little to nothing about computers unless we are talking photoshop or illustrator or graphics in general, and basic functions. I know near to nothing about processing speeds, cores, memory, etc. So, to get down to it I am on a MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2011, I will be upgrading to Mountain Lion before I install the design suite. Hardware overview for my comp shows as this:

Is this enough info to know whether it is compatible? If you need more information please let me know. If it is, could you tell me if it is compatible with my computer.

If you have one of the new dual core G5s that will work. If you don't then that RAM will not work. It is DDR2 and the older PowerMac G5s use DDR.
