Vista crashes when I plug in my 8gb Nano

I just got my iPod, have installed (and reinstalled) iTunes & Quicktime. Everytime I plug in my iPod to the USB port, my computer crashes -- Blue Screen of Death.
Have looked at both the Microsoft site and the Apple site for updates and found that I'm running the most current versions of the O/S and the software.
Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening, or what I can do to resolve it?
HP s7700m Windows Vista

it's a s7700n
thank you kindly. i found your driver downloads page at HP:
Software & Driver downloads: HP Pavilion Slimline s7700n Desktop PC (vista 32-bit)
what's springing out at me from that is the Microsoft Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller Update.
there's an issue with SATA drives on Vista boxes with nVidia componentry that typically produces blue screens when watching videos in iTunes, as per the "Additional info" section down at the bottom of the following document:
Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista video playback performance issues
... but i've seen a few instances of it also being associated with blue screens when syncing an ipod (including one on an HP slimline desktop).
what is helping some folks with the nVidia/SATA/Vista thing on the HP desktop boxes is that Microsoft Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller update/rollback. so it's worth making sure you're up to date with that.
while you're at your download page, it would also be worth checking to see if you're up to date with that NVIDIA Graphics Driver Update being listed for your s7700n, too.
do the updates help with your blue screening when you plug in the ipod?

When I plug my iPod Nano or Classic into my MacBook Pro, with iTunes already open, it crashes iTunes. Plus, the device doesn't show up in the device column on the left, but on the upper right of the desktop.

Hi monicaxh1,
Here is an article of troubleshooting for when your iPod does not appear in iTunes:

The issues you are seeing may be connected, so I would try this troubleshooting first.

• ITunes 11 crashes when device plugged in, iTunes 12 crashes whenever I do anything other than listen to music

Hey Apple Support!
I am about to return my POS Apple products and all Apple products in my household / never buy one ever again! But first please help me out getting your junk to work until I can replace it all.
Running Windows 8.1 (latest updates), and randomly today, my iTunes 11 starts crashing when I plug in my iPhone 5 ios7.1. NOTE: I have made no changes to the iPhone or iTunes for a few months and they have been working together fine, this issue just popped out of the blue today. So, I upgrade to iTunes 12 thinking that will solve the issue. Other than giving me a terrible display and slower start-up time, iTunes 12 is a whole lot worse! Not only does plugging in a device crash it, but running uninstaller also crashes! Reinstall / repair crashes! Trying to edit preferences in iTunes crashes! (I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP ALL OF THESE CASES ARE OCCURRING) I can't get rid of your trash software! That's not so bad, since I never use iTunes for anything but syncing to my iPhone, EXCEPT I just had to buy a replacement iPhone 5S today because I was told that somehow after camping in the desert (i.e. no water) my phone got water damaged! And before that incident even happened my iPhone has almost always had issues with the screen mis-reading gestures which today caused me to delete a text conversation with someone and I opened a separate question about why after that happened my phone continues to delete new texts from this person, but no one has answered! If any specialist responds with the "iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" then I'm heading straight to the AT&T store to return this brick I just bought.

Any help on this? its really annoying.

• Creative Cloud Crashes When I Plug In a USB Drive

My problem is that Adobe Creative Cloud application crashes every time I plug in a USB drive. My computer is Windows 7 64-bit. A brief history:
1. I signed up for Creative Cloud and started to download and install the Creative Cloud desktop application (an upgrade to the Application Manager). The installation failed. I tried it again and the installation failed again.
2. Contacted Adobe Tech Support via live chat where the tech took over my computer and did so many things I couldn’t follow what he was doing. He finally got the Creative Cloud desktop application to install successfully. At least we thought so at the time.
3. I was then able to download Photoshop CC and Bridge CC and begin using the applications.
4. A day or two later I discovered the Creative Cloud application (not Photoshop or Bridge) crashes every time I plug in a USB drive.
5. Since then I’ve had two more chat sessions with Adobe tech support where they had me rename some folders to OOBEold and uninstall and reinstall the Creative Cloud desktop application. The last time they had me download and try to run a Creative Cloud Cleaner, but it couldn’t find the Creative Cloud application so we couldn’t run the cleaner. These reinstallations were unproductive as Creative Cloud still crashes when I plug in a USB drive. It doesn’t matter if I use the USB ports on the front or the back of the computer.
Has anyone else experienced this particular issue with Creative Cloud and, if so, were you able to solve the problem?
Is there a graceful way to close the Creative Cloud application instead of using the Task Manager to end the process before I plug in a USB drive? There is a drop-down menu by a gear icon in the upper right of the application window that has Preferences and Quit Creative Cloud as two of the options. What does the option “Quit Creative Cloud” actually mean? Are you just closing the application or are you doing something more serious? Under preferences there is an option that is selected by default to Launch at login. What does “Launch at login” mean? Does it mean when the computer starts up or when you actually go to Adobe and login to your account or something else?
Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Dave,
Thanks for your reply. After four very lengthy tech support chat sessions, the last tech support person (30 July, 2013) suggested that it was probably some sort of conflict with the drivers for the USB ports on my Dell computer. The case number you requested is still open and is: 0184509373.
I spent a lot of time during the last tech chat trying to determine a graceful way to quit the application before using any USB devices. Just clicking on the X to close the window does not close the application as it still shows up as an active process in Windows Task Manager. Our conversation kept getting confused between the Creative Cloud application and the more global Creative Cloud and which you were quitting or logging out of. Adobe should have kept the name “Application Manager” for the application.
After experimenting, I’ve devised the following work around. It’s a nuisance, but it seems to work a little better than just crashing the application. I open the Creative Cloud desktop application and choose “Quit Creative Cloud.” I can then use a USB device without a crash. After disconnecting the USB device, I restart the Creative Cloud application by double clicking on the icon on my desktop. Finally, I can use Photoshop CC and Bridge. If I don’t restart the Creative Cloud application first, Photoshop asks me to register the software again. This puzzles me as I didn’t think the Creative Cloud application had to be running in order to use Photoshop.
Thanks for your attention and assistance.

• Macbook Pro 13" late 2011 crashes when i plug out a "Focusrite Saffire 6 USB" while in sleeping mode.

Hi Forum,
I have a problem with my Macbook Pro crashing when i plug out my "Focusrite Saffire 6 USB" while it´s still in sleep mode.
I do have the latest drivers and updates so is there any way to fix that Problem ( besides not pluging it out while in sleep mode)?

Man punches himself in the nose. "OW!" he says. He punches himself again. "OW!!" he says. After the sixth or seventh time, he asks a friend how he can stop his nose from hurting.
"Stop punching yourself in the nose," the friend advises.

1.Download the Flash setup file from here:
[http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version].
Save it to your Desktop.
2. Close Firefox using File > Exit
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed,
{XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
* On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen).
Did you download iTunes and install it on your computer?
If you run iTunes with the iPad connected to your computer, it should appear under DEVICES at the left side of the iTunes window. By clicking on it, the instructions you need may appear.

• My PC restarts when I plug in my iPod Nano.

Hi. Can anyone please help? Sometimes when I plug in my iPod Nano my computer re-boots. It doesn't always do a clean re-boot and I have to unplug the Nano and re-set the computer a couple of times. I have seen similar problems on this forum, and no, I am not using Aluria Spyware Eliminator. I use Norton Anti-virus.
Help!

Brian, another way of looking at this is: how many devices do you have connected to the USB port (the same one)? I've found through using external storage devices that one port can handle two devices. I had four going at once one time, but the same thing happened, only two would evenually connect.
There's a limit to connections per USB port, I'm just trying to see if you have too many connectins on one port. If so, obviously, if you have other USB ports available, plug the nano into it's own port and see if that "cures" the missing nano.

• ITunes quits when I plug in my iPod Nano

Good day,
When I plug in my iPod nano, iTunes opens and starts to sync my iPod and then after about 6 secs iTunes closes unexpectedly. My iPod is no longer visible on my desktop even though it is still plug into my computer via a USB port.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and am still having the same problem.
I also tried to restore my iPod, but can't figure out how to do this without iTunes and I can't restore using iTunes because it keeps closing unexpectedly before I can complete the operation.
Any help would really be appreciated.
thank you,
Cedartable

Someone told me how to prevent my iPod from syncing when I plugged it into my iMac: go into Preferences in iTunes. Click on Devices. Tick the Prevent ipods ... from syncing automatically. Open iTunes. Plug in your ipod. Click on your iPod. Choose Restore.
I did a Restore and now my iPod is syncing just fine and iTunes is not closing unexpectedly. Yay.
