Vista DEP problems after Easy Transfer

Found a solution - My reader 9.1 started shutting down Vista after I transferred files with easy transfer - I tried fresh downloads and tried to exclude pgm from DEP - no luck/no support from HP/Adobe/Microsoft - however found a solution by installing Foxit

i use vista with iTunes 8 myself, never had this problem. But you can try this:
1) go to control panel
2) choose Safety
3) Under Windows Firewall, click Allow Programs to pass thru windows firewall (sorry i use a chinese vista so u may want to find an option with the same meaning)
4) choose continue in the pop up menu
5) then in the list of exceptions, check "iTunes"
hope this works ^^

  • DEP problems after install

    Hi all,
after downloading and installing Itunes(with QT ), it refuses to open, and i get the message that DEP has prevented it from opening.
I have done all i could find on the net : disabling DEP through AlwaysOn/Off/optin etc.. disabling it in the Bios, it will not let me put any of the programs as an exception since it says it has to be run with DEP.i have done the standalone QT solution, have cleaned the registry, removed all codecs, removed and installed Itunes in all ways described, but still absolutely nothing...
I know there are more people out there getting frustrated with the same problem, has anyone done all the steps i have, and also still have the problem, if so, what more can we do, except for going back to XP.. ...??? Suggestions MORE then welcome...

Check to see if your QUicktime works, iTunes can not work if Quicktime does not.
If Quicktime will not launch, DEP errors in Quicktime can be due to incompatible codecs.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them, they are know to cause problems with QUickitme.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • Depreciation Problem after asset transfer

    Hi All,
During our month end, our user did the asset transfer within the same company code. When he runs the Depreciation through AFAB, the new asset is not showing any depreciation for current month, where as Old asset has some balance. I checked the new asset and in the Depreciation area, the Dep. start date is showing as 05/02/08. We changed the date to 03/02/2008 through AS02, but still it is not showing up any depreciation. I do have following questions.
    1. Can we transfer asset before depreciation run or run the depreciation first and then do the transfer. In our case we already transfered, so how do we fix it.
    2. I wonder how it is getting the Odep. start date as 05/04/08. Is it defined some where in Depreciation key/
    3. Can we run depreciation excluding that new asset. If so, how it can be done
Please let me know if anyone has come across this, and how to solve this.
    This is an urgent.
    Thanks
    Kris

    Hi Muriel,
I am very sure you did not do it correctly. Now, this is the step to follow:
    1. First adjust the APC value to what it should be using transaction code <b>ABSO</b>. Once you're sure that your Acquisition Value is correct, the next thing to do is
    2. To execute transaction <b>AFAB</b>(Depreciation Run) in "<b>Test Mode</b>". This would give you the depreciation that would be posted by the system asset by asset. This are under three main headings namely: "<b>Planned</b>", "<b>Posted</b>" & "<b>To Post</b>".
Depending on your depreciation method, the "<b>Planned</b>" figure gives the total amount the system would post for the financial year whilst the "<b>Posted</b>" figure gives you what has been posted up to date and the "<b>To Post</b>" figure gives you what would be charged to the P&L when you run <b>AFAB</b> in Production mode.
Your Net Book Value(NBV) at the end of the depreciation run for say November 2006 would be <b>NBV</b> = <b>APC</b> - (<b>Posted + To Post</b>)
If Posted + To Post (i.e. Accummulated Depreciation) is more or less than what you expect it to be from you manual calculation, you then need to adjust the figure upward or downward depending on the situation at hand. That is when you now need to
    3. Perform Manual Depreciation Adjustment using either transaction code <b>ABAA</b> or <b>ABMA</b>.
You can then use <b>AW01N</b> to view the asset. You would be able to see the different postings made. Do not forget to run <b>AFAB</b> in production mode. If not, no depreciation value would be posted and your report would still be wrong.
    I hope the above helps.
Do not forget to award the points please.
    Regards,
    Jacob

  • Upgrade to Win 7 (64bit) from Vista 32 - Not enough H Disk space after running Windows easy transfer

    Hello all!
I upgraded from Vista 32 to Windows 7(64bit) using the custom install as per instruction found on Lenovo and the upgrade has gone well.  My machine is running much better and faster now.  However, I tried to transfer my files with easy transfer and I have run out of room on the HD.  After the install, my C drive had about 35 Gigs with no other programs installed except for Win 7.  This seems to be too much memory used for win 7 OS.  I am thinking that other data like past restore data may be taking up a lot of room?  Also my Easy transfer file is 79 gigs which also appears to large of a file.  I have not been able to use Easy Transfer because of lack of drive space.  Can I reformat my HD and run a new win 7 install from the Win 7 upgrade software CD?
    Thanks in advance?

  • Can't send emails after migration from Vista PC to W7 PC. Tried Mozbackup and Windows Easy Transfer. Settings have transferred ok, it just won't send emails.

I recently migrated my Tbird from a Vista PC to a W7 PC using Mozbackup. Transfer was fine with all the settings transferred apparently correctly. But now I can receive emails but not send them. Sent emails show in 'Sent Items' but are not received the other end. Also tried the migration using the Beta 1 version of Mozbackup and also Windows Easy Transfer with the same result. IMAP and POP3 accounts are both affected. Neither can send emails. I get no error messages nor any bounceback.
Found on one forum that AVG can block outgoing emails so altered the AVG settings which seemed to solve the problem. The next morning the problem was back. I uninstalled AVG completely but it made no difference. I do have MicroSoft Sec Essentials but the problem was there before that was installed.
Using the BT Home Hub 5 on BT Infinity broadband. It can't be the router though as the old PC was sending emails fine. Although I did have the suspect AVG settings, removing it has not solved the problem.
The outgoing email settings seem to be fine. Any thoughts?
    Simon

  • ITunes manually added artwork is missing after Windows Easy Transfer from XP to Windows-7. Please help!

After a Windows Easy Transfer from a Windows XP pc to a new Windows-7 pc, all the iTunes artwork that I had previously manually added is now missing. I estimate 25-30% of my CDs needed manual intervention to add artwork. Some of these were album covers I found on the web but many are photos that I took and cropped but have not retained. I have nearly 20,000 songs. Every one had artwork on my XP machine. Now on Windows-7 it appears to be missing. I spent many patient hours to get artwork in place for all my music and don't want to loose it or have to repeat the process. Please help! Many thanks for any contributions.

  • Administrator.000 appeared after XP to Win7 upgrade using Easy Transfer Wizard

I used the Windows Easy Transfer method to capture my XP documents and settings in a saved file before upgrading to Windows 7 (32bit).   After a clean install I then ran Windows Easy Transfer to restore my documents and settings from the file created earlier.  Everything worked fine but I did notice that in the C:\Users directory an extra Administrator.000 directory was created with the date and time matching the time when I ran Easy Transfer wizard. Is it safe to delete this extra one and leave the original Administrator directory?

  • Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer files from Windows Vista or Windows XP

I'm running a English Windows Vista Ultimate and just bought a
ENGLISH Windows 8.1. I've downloaded the WET for Windows vista and tried to complete the second portion of the transfer by specifying the saved .MIG file WET created. Then I got the error message: "Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer
files from Windows Vista or Windows XP".
The truth is, Microsoft was too busy integrating special effects to it's operating system and claimed it as fully polished instead of making sure built-in tools were worth using.
Another harsh reality is that THERE IS NO WAY TO TRANSFER a file from Windows Vista to Windows 8. That's because engineers didn't even bother to make that possibility happen. Just Google: "Transfer from windows vista to windows 8" and you'll see
there are no relevant Microsoft web page about this.
Worse, Microsoft is giving excuses. To solve this issues, they came with a toolbox of fake scenarios in order to confuse clients even further, while they know damn well the Windows Easy Transfer is NOT EASY and certainly in multiple cases
DOES NOT TRANSFER jack to begin with.

    I somewhat agree with you.
Trying to transfer from 7 to 8.1 and although it looks like the "7" side of the equation is working, the "8" side isn't.
"7" is trying to connect to "8" but "8.1" is being just plain stupid.
Not even sure why the MIG file step is even necessary if all I want to do is transfer one file between two machines.  Said file is really BIG, or i'd just use my network, and the "8.1" rig doesn't have a dvd reader...
Per the MIG step... my file again, is big... I'd need to "mig" this file just to send it? Can't even get to the step where I'd mig-it and if i did, how long would that take?
So this is what progress is all about... geez... gimmie a NULL MODEM CABLE !!!

  • Firefox 3.6.6 Not Displaying Gmail Contacts & Calendar and at least 1 other website correctly after using Microsoft Windows Easy Transfer

I have another kind of problem with Firefox
    == Description
    ==
In migrating from an XP PC to a new Win 7 PC, I downloaded Firefox to the new PC and it worked fine - got my Gmail contacts, calendar, etc. Later I used Micros Soft's Windows Easy Transfer to move data, profiles, etc to the new PC. Then could log onto Gmail but it would not show Contacts or Calendar. I then uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it - nohelp, then I did a system to Restore to before I did the Windows Easy Transfer - no help, then I manually moved my Firefox Profile from the XP machine - no help. BTW at least one other website does not display correctly: http://www.hollandamerica.com/main/Main.action. NOTE - through all this Internet Explorer has shown these sites correctly.

new Computer                       C:drive with win 7 is 40gb,
    E:drive is 1tb
old computer                         C:drive with win 7 is
    500gb, D:drive is 80gb
I want to transfer the contents of my old computer (400gb) to the E:drive on the new computer but when using the easy transfer cable it will only transfer to the smaller C:drive HDD at 40gb
on the new computer and wants me to discard files
Have any solution to my problem?
    Do I rename the  C
    Regards
    Bill Anderson

    Hi Bill,
First of all, I must to tell you, rename the C:\ cannot change its drive letter, just change its label. And I don't recommend you change the system drive letter, it would affect the system normal usage.
Next let's go back to your problem.
When you transfer files, the information on each drive on your old computer will be transferred to the respective drives on your new computer. Unless Windows Easy Transfer detects that the drive names on your old and new computers don't match. For example,
if you choose to transfer files and settings from the C: and D: drives on your old computer, but your new computer only has a C: drive, then you will be asked to select which drive on your new computer you want to transfer information to.
In addition, not all files could be moved, fore more information, please read this article:

  • Consult Transfer problem after CCM upgrade from 3.3.4 to 4.1.3

I upgraded a CCM Cluster installed into a main site. In addition there is a branch office WAN connected by an MPLS Link with the main site; the branch is connected to PSTN using a Voice Gateway H323. The upgrade was perfomed from 3.3.4.sr2 to 4.1.3sr3a.
Now there are problems with consult transfer only on the branch office; main site don't is affected by the problem.
It's really strange because it occurs for 50% of the time, sometimes it works fine ..
    To better explain the problem:
when a user receive a call from PSTN or from another phone (into same region or remote) and want to transfer to another collegue he press "transfer softkey", talk with the collegue and when he try to transfer the call "transfer softkey" appear disabled. If he transfer the call without consult the call is transferred correctly.
Later I have unistalled the 4.1.3 sr3a and installed 4.1.3 sr2 but nothing is changed
    Someone can help me ?

    Hi Brent,
Do you perhaps have "on hook" transfer enabled? With this enabled you don't need to press the Transfer key a second time to complete the transfer.Have a look:
•When on-hook transfer is enabled, you can either hang up or press Trnsfer, then hang up.
•If on-hook transfer is not enabled on your phone, be aware that hanging up instead of pressing Trnsfer cancels the transfer action and places the party to be transferred on hold.
    Onhook Call Transfer
Modifications to the Call Transfer feature add the onhook (hangup) action as a possible last step to complete a call transfer. The Transfer On-hook Enabled service parameter, which enables onhook call transfer, must be set to True for onhook call transfer to succeed. If the service parameter is set to False, the onhook action ends the secondary call to the third party.
In the existing implementation, if user B has an active call on a particular line (from user A) and user B has not reached the maximum number of calls on this line, the Cisco IP Phone provides a Transfer softkey to user B. If user B presses the Transfer softkey (or Transfer button, if available) once, user B receives dial tone and can make a secondary call: user B dials the number of a third party (user C). Cisco CallManager provides a Transfer softkey to user B again. If user B presses the Transfer softkey again (or Transfer button, if available), the transfer operation completes.
With the new onhook call transfer implementation, user B can hang up after dialing user C's number, and the transfer completes. Both the existing and new implementations work in both the case of a blind transfer (user B disconnects before user C answers) and also in the case of a consult transfer (user B waits for user C to answer and announces the call from user A).
The previous implementation remains unchanged: user B can press the Transfer softkey twice to complete the transfer.

  • Easy Transfer Music or Burn Media (Vista)

Getting new PC's with Vista. The announcement makes no mention of what the best way to move the music should be. Easy transfer or just Burn CD's or DVD's and place into iTunes once downloaded on the machines with vista. Any advice from those who have already done this.
    Thanks

  • "Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings." Why?

I saved my files and settings from a previous installation of windows 7 to an external hard drive using windows easy transfer. Now when I try to transfer those files and setting to my new installation I get the following message:
Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings.
The message pops up only a few seconds after the transfer begins.
Why is this?! I need those files and windows has screwed me. Everything is basically the same as before I reinstalled. Same computer, same windows 7 installation just recovered to factory settings. Same system language as before. BTW I'm on a Toshiba L505 laptop
    running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have tried all the usual suspects such as a clean boot and uninstalling my antivirus to rule out third party interference. I have more than enough space on both my computer and on the external hard drive. I have tried only transferring a user account a
few MBs large. I have reinstalled the OS twice just in case something went wrong there. I have clicked on the .MIG file directly. All lead to the same error message. The transfer file seems to be intact and not currupt
Is there another software other than WET that can use the same transfer file that WET created to restore my files? Please help me solve this if you can or at least point me in the right direction because right now I'm clueless. I can't emphasize how important
those files are to me. I've searched for solutions on several forums and it seems that this is a problem people have been having for years now and windows hasn't provided an answer yet.
An interesting note, When I reboot the laptop after trying to do the transfer, a new user account appears at startup alongside the one I normally use. This new user account has the same unique name of the user account I am trying to restore but that's where
the similarity ends. All the settings for this account are default settings and empty folders. What does this mean?

Hi Vincent, like I said I tried all of that already and it failed. Thanks a lot for trying to help though. Imperfect1, so sorry I took so long to reply. No that's not the case. I was trying to restore from x86 to x86.
Well, I finally gave up. I've scoured the internet for a solution. You'll probably find duplicates of this post all over. This has been a known software problem with Windows Easy Transfer for years and Microsoft has done nothing to fix it or warn users of
    the risks. Shameful!
Anyway, I managed to recover my files with this life saver of a program here>
    http://www.visser.com.au/blog/migrecover-for-microsofts-windows-easy-transfer/
MigRecover Utility for Microsoft's Windows Easy Transfer.
I can't express how grateful I am to the developer and the host for the download. You guys are the most awesomest people ever. Cheers.
Here's how you modify the syntax in commmand prompt if you used a password to protect the mig file in WET>
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/68910c1a-3c4b-47af-bb22-0e7ec6f2054f/
Just remember to change the source drive letter in "C:\SaveData.MIG" to the actual drive it's stored on if your MIG file is on an external drive like mine was; whether it's E:, F:, G: or whatever.
Good luck to anyone with the same issue who stumbles upon this post. I hope it helps you as it did me.
