Playlists freezing when adding music to them now, how to unfreeze? I'm not using Match.

Try closing the Music app completely and then reset your iPad.  You will not lose any data.
In order to close the Muisc app, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • ITunes makes different folders when adding music, videos & pictures

    Hi,
I use Windows 7. I have found that when adding music, videos & pictures iTunes makes different folder for it.
I have around 17GB of songs & music. but when I added them to iTunes library it made different folder containing all my songs. Now I have around 34GB of songs. What the ****! It does same for videos & pics.
    Please Help!

    Hi,
When adding a new song (or any media file) to the iTunes library, it copies those files to a folder (usually C:\Users\<username>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music ). iTunes does this to keep a backup of your songs. To deactivate this go to Edit>Preference>Advanced (or Ctrl+,  then go to Advanced) and uncheck the checkbox "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library". iTunes will not copy the music files to its folder. But there is one downside to doing so, if you change the directory (folder or place) of the music that you added to the iTunes library (without copying to its folder), the music will not be played. Trying to play such a song will provide you with a messagebox that asks you to relocate the song or to ignore it. So it is always a good idea to allow iTunes copy the music files to the specified folder automatically. But if you are concerned about the disk space, you can delete the songs' copy of yours (the directory you select).
If you want to add some songs to the iTunes Media folder, you right click a song (or multiple songs) and click on "Consolidate Files...". These songs will be copied to the iTunes Media folder and it will be there whatever happens.
If you are afriad that copying a songs will not allow you to copy the music files to another directory from the iTunes Media folder, you shouldn't be. The folder is similar to that of anyother.
Adding a song without using iTunes is also possible, just copy the songs you want to add to "C:\Users\<username>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatically Add to iTunes".

PE-11: when adding music to a program the video splits and if it is dragged back together the music splits.
How can I get around this problem?

    Glenda,
As a test, try dragging, while holding the Ctrl/Cmd modifier key, that "music" to Audio Track 2, and the "bird sounds" SFX file to Audio Track Audio Track 3. There have reports from other users, where the Fixed Audio Tracks, Narration and Soundtrack have caused problems. Those problems seem to be Project-specific. If your Timeline does not have Audio Tracks 1 - 3 already, you can use Add Tracks. The use of the Ctrl/Cmd key, changes how PrE handles existing files on the Timeline, when adding Assets. This usually comes into play, when one is adding Video, or Stills, and should not really affect those, when only adding Audio, but remember, this is only a test.
    Good luck,

    Help ASAP needed

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.

  • Comodo Firewall causes problems when adding music

When I have Comodo Firewall installed (even when it's closed), I have trouble adding music to iTunes.  It hangs and adds one song every 10 minutes.  If I add more music to iTunes, it'll start adding the previous queue.  In Comodo, I've listed iTunes as a trusted program.  I have a pretty big library, but I think this is mainly a firewall program.  I've disabled Defense+.  There is not much help available in Comodo forums.

    Hi scooper,
... An answered the second part, I give a try to part one:
    * is the project located on your Mac's local drive or external?
    * is the iTunes library on the Mac's local drive or external?
    * is the "internet" (<<woohoo, bad kharma;-) ) music coded as aac, mp3 or aiff? or, something different, internet "standard", as ogg, wav, whatever?
your Mac/iM tries to playback in realtime (sure, that makes sense with a movie...), but obviously has too much to do encoding the music...
in case you own QTpro or a designated audio-app (Garageband, Audacity), try to convert the internet music (<<woohoo, bad kharma... ah, said that) BEFORE import to iM into aiff...
in case of usage of external harddrives:
make sure, the drive is "MacOsExtended" formatted, not FAT32... use Disk Utility to accomplish that (any reformatting erases all content!)
pay the artists//respect local laws//get good kharma

  • When adding music it creates playlist

Whenever I click "add folder to library" I choose a folder, in this case "my music" because it has hundreds of artists in it.  And I click "add", then it starts creating a playlist for every artists in the folder.  I have had iTunes for years and this is the first time it has done this.  I have made sure that "library" is highlighted when I selected "add folder to library".  Does anyone else have this problem?

iTunes recently started importing m3u files when scanning folders for media. My guess is that somewhere you've created some m3u artist playlists with another application and that iTunes is adding them in when you get it to scan the entire media folder. Use iTunes Folder Watch instead.
See my script KillTopLevelPlaylists for a tool to tidy up...

  • Ipod freezing itunes when being plugged in and not recognised

    hi,
can anyone help me... i have an 30gb ipod and have tried everything to get it working with itunes. It works fine with others computers but with mine it just freezes itunes. As soon as i plug my pod in it freezes itunes. Sometimes if i'm lucky it starts to update it but then after 5 minutes it freezes itunes again. I have tried the 5 r's. I have installed the latest SMTP driver for xp. I have tried everything that apple have suggested on there sopport pages and nothing has helped. I have even reformatted my laptop just to get it to work but no luck.
If someone could please help me it would be much appreiated. It was a christmas present from someone close to me and don't wanna give up on it because have all ready spent many late nights on it.
    Thanks

I get exactly what your describing and I noticed we are using the same laptop!!
I did not notice originally as I've got an old 40gb click wheel, about 3/4 years old. The battery is not great so assumed it may have been that but even fully charged I'm getting no luck.
I also followed the 5 r's and all the other suggestions for Ipod in My compute but not in itunes but nothing has worked. I cannot get my laptop to recognised my ipod via Itunes but it see's it fine via My Computer.
Both the Ipod and Itunes work fine without each other, Ipod plays songs fine etc and Itunes downloads music from cd etc and still performs all the usual functions but nothing else works.
I'm desperate for help as I run every day and buy a new cd each week and at this rate I'm going to have to dig out my old CD player!
Also just a point of note I looked the price to get my Ipod serviced as I figured this may help but the price quoted from apple was £160+...you can get a new 30gb for less...talk about customer explotation!!

  • IPod freezes iTunes when connected to computer

Whenever I connect my iPod to my Dell laptop iTunes freezes. When this happens, iTunes does not crash, it only freezes. During this time, iTunes will finish the song that it is playing (if doing so), but after the song finishes no further media will play. Also, the iPod does not show up on the sidebar of iTunes at this time (iTunes appears exactly as it was before connecting the iPod).
I am unable to eject the iPod safely at this point as the computer tells me that the system is using the iPod. If I remove the iPod from the computer, the error message: "Unable to sync iPod" comes up in iTunes. At the same time the iPod shows up on the sidebar of the iTunes, but it disappears as soon as I click "Ok" on the error message. At this point, iTunes returns to normal and is no longer frozen, even without restarting.
I have tried using a different computer and the same thing happens. I have also tried a different cable and the same exact thing happens.
Most recently, I have tried putting the iPod into disk mode, but still the same thing happens when I connect it to the computer.
If I go into My Computer (the same thing occurs in or out of disk mode) and click on the iPod, it will take me to the iPod folder, but My Computer will begin to Not Respond and then the only way to close it is to force close the window (ctrl, alt, del). If I right click the iPod, the drop down menu to access properties or to format the iPod comes up, but once again My Computer begins to not respond and I must force close it.
My iPod is an iPod Classic, 120 GB.
My computer is a Dell Laptop, Studio 1558
I have also tried on a Dell Desktop

OK, lets check out the iPod's hard drive...
*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

  • ISO5.1 in iPad freezes iTunes when syncing

  • ITunes freezes when adding music file from smb share

As title states, if I try to add more than 15/20 files to iTunes, it freezes and there's no turning back.
All my music is stored on my home-server (running Gentoo/Linux) and I have always used it with success until iTunes 10 came out.
The only thing I can do is to unmount the remote directory, open iTunes and remove the music.
I've already tried to upgrade to v10.0.1 but no luck so far.
    Any clue?
    Thank you

This has gotten to be a real problem for me as well. It freezes for about 40 seconds for each song I add. It even comes up as "not responding" at times in the force quit dialogue box. I rolled back to iTunes 9.2.1 as described here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2603684&tstart=0
Others have reported this fixing the problem, but it has NOT fixed it for me. I have my media on an SMB share and my library files were on the local hard drive. I tried moving the library files over to the SMB share, but it didn't improve anything.
I've been using "Activity Monitor" to look at what's going on and there's minimal CPU usage. But I am noticing something odd: the "Reads in" and "Writes out" figures are pretty much the same, which is what I would expect as I'm copying song files from my internal HD to the SMB share. But the "Data read" and "Data written" figures are very different. It's reading over twice as much data as it's writing. Either I'm misunderstanding what I'm looking at or something isn't right here. Anyone with more technical chops care to jump in?
I'd post a picture, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this.
I'm also wondering if there are corrupted plist files or other invisible files that can be deleted and rebuilt? I used "Filebuddy" to unhide the files and found a file in the iTunes folder called "sentinel". Anyone know what that is?

  • For some reason, When I add my 'My Music' folder to Itunes on my new computer, as Itunes is adding music, It's creating hundreds of playlists from each of my artist/albums...I end up with a ton of playlists (200 gigs worth) How do i stop this?

Essentially, Itunes creates a playlist for each album in my 'my music' folder, resulting in thousands of playlists. Why is this happening all of the sudden? How do I stop this?
    Thanks,
    Brendan

    hi Limnos,
I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th.  (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists)  The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29.  (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?
    Thank you for your help!
    Deb

  • Itunes stops responding when adding music

I have an iPod classic (I think 5th gen) it had worked great for a long time and then a few weeks ago it just froze. After it froze I forced restarted it and all my music was gone. Now I am trying to add all my music and everytime to go to do it (whether on mac or pc) a few files will load and then itunes will freeze and stop responding. I am running itunes 10.6.1 on my pc and 11 on my mac and I have restored the ipod a couple times but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I would love any advice or help because this is extremely frustrating. Thanks

    CORRECTION:
my iPod is the IPOD CLASSIC not 5th gen

  • Upgraded iTunes to 9.2.1 and iPod shuffle 2 won't sync when adding music

I updated my iTunes software to 9.2.1 and now my iPod shuffle generation 2 takes at least 5 to 10 minutes to initially sync and when I try to drag music files to the iPod shuffle I am getting a message that states " iPod sync failed, please disconnect and try again". The same thing happens every time I try to add more music to my iPod shuffle, even when I disconnect and try again. Had no problems with previous versions of iTunes, just iTunes 9 and up. I welcome any suggestions on fixing the problem, because I can't add any new music to my iPod!! I'm convinced that the iTunes 9.2.1 didn't correctly fix the bugs that are causing the iPod syncing issues. Thank you in advance to all who offer help.

Since putting content on a shuffle actually requires user involvement, please
describe HOW you are "syncing" your shuffle. What you are describing sounds like the initial thing that happens after you connect the shuffle (iTunes checking
the shuffle to see if the shuffle's content matches the iTunes library).
The next step is up to you...
