Vista hates my iTunes?

One day I was on iTunes. Internet explorer wouldn't close and I was trying to get it to do so. I meant to close that but iTunes randomly jumped in front and I closed that instead. Ever since, on my vista home premium computer, when I try to open iTunes a message pops up saying "iTunes has stopped working" and another one saying "windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
Guess what?
I haven't been notified.
I've uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and reinstalled it. Anyone know what I should try? D:

Please can anyone help me? I have the 32 Bit and a dell pc
it's been a really long time since i posted this so i thought i'd post again so it doesn't go ignored.
also i have 50 dollars in the itunes store so i want this fixed.

Your expectations are not based in reality.
Your G4 will not run iCloud. There will be no upgrade from Mobile Me to iCloud for you with that machine unless you do it manually, and only mail will work without further expenditure.

    Hallo,

  • Vista Home Premium & Itunes 7.1.1 - No audio No ripping ability

I was hoping someone could help me with this. I am unable to get any audio from Itunes when I insert a CD. Also I cannot properly RIP any music from the CD. The player looks like it is working but no sound comes out. Sound works fine with all other applications. (i.e. Media Player, yahoo Player etc.) I have uninstalled Audio drivers and upgraded to the newest verison and installed latest ITunes from Apple. Any suggestions? I have spent countless hours trying to get this to work. Thank you....

Glad it's working for you -
All of this business worked on my new machine from the day I bought it (July - downloaded and installed iTunes the first day I got it)... worked fine as yours did until...crashing failure. The only factor I can definitively point to is the 7.71 update that for me, happened 7-10 days ago +/-
I am so bummed out - repeated attempts to insall iTunes and Quicktime (separately) have failed at least 25 times. Can't synch my iPod or buy new music, can't play my music on my Airport, and my very competent IT person at work is totally stumped. (She has a similar machine, running same Vista, but has iTunes 7.6 - because she says she waits at least 2-3 months before running updates...hmmmm).
If anyone has the secret formula to make this work, I would really like to share in the information.

  • Windows Vista 64 and Itunes/Ipod

    Evening all,
Was wondering if anyone has had any issues using Itunes or an Ipod with Windows Vista 64?
    Cheers

This was a small issue within WinXP. Maybe the solution for that would work with Vista.
If you get any message about "Another User", an "iPod Service Error" alert appears, or “Please reinstall iTunes" appears, turn off the 'Fast User Switching' - even if no one else is using the computer (Win XP environment).
==>Start=>Control Panel=>User Accounts=>Change the way users log on and off ==> Remove the check mark from FUS.

  • I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista but my iTunes will no longer work.  It says file can not be located when I try to play a song.

I recently upgraded my operating system from Vista to Windows 7.  Ibacked up all of my music on an external hard drive before I reformatted my computer.  I have reloaded iTunes several times and attempted to transer my files back to my computer.  Everything appears to transfer but once I remove the external hard drive I get a message stated file cannot be located.  What am I doing wrong?

I just posted a similar question -- five months later.  Did you ever find a solution?

  • Moved iTunes library to Vista PC but iTunes 'can't find music files'. Help!

I'm running iTunes 7.1.1 on a new Vista PC and I followed the instructions on this support site for transferring the library using an iPod.
All songs (with artwork) are showing in the new PC's iTunes library, BUT all have a '!' symbol to the left and refuse to play. It offers to let me find them, but this would take hours for the thousands of tracks. I've tried consolidating but to no effect. All the music files are in the iTunes library folder, so why can't iTunes access them?

  • Help Mac user help new Vista user - install itunes or not?

    Hi,
My friend has a new Vista PC and he's not a skilled user. I'm a Mac person myself. He's having tons of trouble with it and I live 2000 miles away. I'm here on a visit and have been helping him get Flash player and Yahoo IM etc installed.
Is iTunes a simple, painless, installation or does it require troubleshooting? If the latter, then we won't even try. Too little time for anything but install-and-play.
Your advice will be much appreciated.

Our luck will be problems out the wazoo. His PC is brand new and shiny, but working with it is like trying to do eye surgery on yourself without instruments or anesthesia: painful.
Maybe we'll postpone this until I buy him a Macbook later this year.

  • Windows Vista 64-bit - ITunes died and won't reinstall

Last night my wife let her laptop battery run dry with itunes 10 open. We had just installed it a week or so ago, and had not updated from the online download version.
Anyhow, afterward, when I tried to open iTunes, MS would pop up with a message that the program failed to open properly. The laptop is Windows Vista 64-bit with the 64-bit software.
I uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled, restarted, and tried again. Seemed to install correctly, but still got the crash when attempting to open.
Tried QuickTime, it also will no longer open. Uninstalled both, and no when I try to install iTunes, it goes through the gathering information process of the install, but then pops up with a window saying the installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.
I downloaded Windows Install Utility v. 3, but it shows iTunes and QuickTime completely removed (at least no entries were in their to remove).
I also redownloaded the iTunes .exe, with the same results. Even tried the 32-bit, heh, which obviously didn't work, but worth a shot I suppose.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
I did a backup of the registry and went through and hard delete most of the iTunes entries, with no success, so I just restored the registry to the original since I wasnt 100% sure that I should be doing that.

Below are the two most recent problem reports for each of the three programs. No other programs had any recent problem reports. One interesting thing, from the time stamps, there are no crash reports from the last few iTunes install attempts which were giving the message from above and the latest attempt where it just flickers then doesn't do anything else.

  • My iPhone is not recognized by my Windows Vista or by iTunes anymore!

Hello all!  I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can offer that would point me in the right direction.
I have an iPhone 4 (AT&T) that works fine.  I have a Gateway Fx MS2252 P-7805U laptop operating Windows Vista Home Premium at 64-bit.  I used to be able to plug my phone into my computer to sync it, but this past may my laptop caught a virus and crashed... I took it to a mom-and-pop computer repair place and they backed up my info and completely reinstalled all of Windows.
The problem is that now my computer is not working properly with my iPhone.  Here are the symptoms:
I plug in my iPhone and I get three short beeps, and it does not appear under My Computer or iTunes.
I uninstalled the Apple Mobile Device Manager driver and then plugged my phone back in so that it would re-install, but the install is always unsuccessful.
I plugged my iPhone into a different PC with iTunes and it works properly (as well as my USB chord)--so I know the problem is in my own computer.
Also, the version of Windows they gave me won't update.
I cannot update any of the drivers in Windows--when I try to update any drivers through the Device Manager, it just says that I have the most up-to-date driver.
No matter how many times I uninstall/reinstall iTunes, I keep getting an error message saying "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."  I've uninstalled any other CD burning software on my computer, but that does not solve the problem.
So all I can narrow it down to is perhaps something with the driver or registry.  I'd really rather not uninstall/reinstall Windows if it's possible to get around that...
Can anyone offer me some insight?  Or point me in the right direction? I would GREATLY appreciate any help! Thank you .

  • IPod recognized by Vista but not iTunes

Hi, I have a perplexing problem. iTunes is suddenly not recognizing my
iPod. Vista does (though has renamed it Apple iPod), but it does not
open (when I try, Explorer hangs)
Nothing happened b4 to provoke this behavior. I uploaded some podcasts
on Friday, went out of town (w/out the iPod), and came back Monday
night. Tuesday, I try to update the iPod and it doesn't show up in
iTunes, but Vista wants to reformat it!
I try the following (suggested in the Apple support pages):
    * I restart the iPod service
    * I completely uninstall iTunes
    * I reset the iPod
Each time I connect the iPod to Vista, it asks if I want to reformat it. I grudgingly restored to see if that would help. I even reformatted it (Quick Format) even though I had heard that was bad. Still doesn't show up in iTunes, but the iPod is happy as a clam, albeit empty of any songs/podcasts.
Any ideas? Oh, and I have an ancient 3G iPod w/ doc connector. After 5
years, (and 3 batteries) it still works like a champ.

You need to install iTunes in order to install the necessary drivers.

  • Windows Vista vs. ITUNES 7.1.1

Everytime i connect my IPOD via USB the only activity that happens is Vista steps in and says, "Do you want to scan and fix IPOD?" I get two choices. 1. Scan and fix, or 2. Ignore for now. Either one I choose does nothing. Itunes does not see my Ipod anymore. It used to work, but I was restoring my Ipod in Itunes a couple days ago and seomthing happened during the process. When I disconnected the Ipod, I havent been able to use it since. Now Itunes doesnt recognize it. Any ideas? Do I need to go and buy a new IPOD??? I hope not!

    Where is the resolution?

  • Windows Vista SP1 64Bit + iTunes 7.6.2.9 64Bit iPod not found!!!!

Just called apple support and they said my iPod couldn't be supported because it was 19 days past there agreement. They wanted to charge me $29.00 to help me with my 80Gig 5th Gen iPod. I find that really sad that i spend so much money on this thing and not get the right support. Now i install the latest iTunes and plug in my iPod and walaa there's nothing to be found. Whats the problem apple?????

The problem appears to be the intensity of activity during synchronization causing the laptop to overheat. It is happening occasionally with the Apple TV synchronization but repeatably with the iPod synchronization. The only other time the machine has overheated was during an AutoCad install of over 300Mb. Obviously this is also partly Vista in that it does heavy data crunching on IO operations and partly hardware but interestingly the synchronization process is the only thing that is repeatedly pushing it over the edge. The heat rise during synchronization if you hold your finger on the video socket near the CPU is startling. Rising in three or four seconds from warm to a point where you can only just hold your finger there. Have owned the machine for six months without this issue but no I can't leave iTunes running as it is making the machine unstable. Only happened with this latest release.
