Vista HD not showing up as startvolume

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this issue but I hope somebody can help me out anyway.
I haven't booted in Windows in a while but I ran into a confusing problem today. I have two installations of Windows, Windows XP as a partition on my main harddrive together with Mac OS 10.5 and Windows Vista on its own harddrive.
In the startvolume manager, OSX, Vista and XP are all showing up. I select Vista, as that's what I want to use. But, for some reason it boots in XP.
So I try to manually select it by pressing "Option" during the boot process... and there I only get the option between OSX and Windows, no Vista or XP.
I'm not sure what the problem is or how to solve it, I've searched through the Boot Camp support sites and through Google, without success. What's confusing me is that both Vista and XP are showing up in the OSX startvolume manager, but not in the manual selection via Option key during boot.
Anybody have any ideas how I could fix this? I've tried renaming the XP partition to see if it's a naming conflict but that didn't change anything.
Thank you.

I installed Vista quite a while before I installed XP. As mentioned, I haven't used Vista in a while which is why I haven't noticed this problem before. I've been using XP very rarely instead to update firmware on my non-Apple mouse (and XP is booting and working normally).
By the way, in the Boot Camp Control Panel in XP, it shows "Mac OS X" on "NumberOne" (name of my main HD) and "Windows" on "disk2". No mention of Vista, no second Windows option.
I'm gonna try the boot manager in XP you mentioned, The hatter. I'm not sure if that's going to make a difference, though, since Vista isn't even showing up in the manual startup volume options via Option key. There it only shows Mac OS and one option of "Windows".

  • Windows Vista Computer not showing up in finder

Hi, my WIndows Vista computer is not showing up in finder under Shared. I can connect to my PC from my mac by clicking on finder, go, connect to server and typing in the PC's IP Address, Username and Password. I can also see my Mac computer from my PC running Windows Vista.
What's weird is that it was showing up for awhile but I recently changed my network key and unchecked file sharing on both my Mac and PC.
Afterwards I re-enabled file sharing on both my mac and Vista computer but my PC won't show up in finder.
I can connect to my PC and see the computer in finder but when I click eject, it disappears. I would like it to remain in finder. Is there some setting that I need to enable? Please help

Assuming that the missing machine is part of the same Workgroup/Domain:
Open Terminal and enter "nmblookup -M workgroupname" (without the quotes, and replacing workgroupname with the name of your workgroup or domain.
This will list the IP address of the machine that is the "master browser" of your network. If you are on a domain, the address should be that of your domain controller. There should only be one ip address listed.
You can then get that machine to list the shares that it see on the network by entering:
    "smbclient -L ipaddressofmasterbrowser"
You should be able to just press enter when it asks for a password.
This will list available shares and servers.

  • Vista Share NOT showing up in OS X 10.5

    Okay here is the deal,
I can view my Mac share just fine on the Vista machine, but the vista share does not show up on my mac machine in Finder.
    What's up?
I can access the Vista share by typing: smb://192.168.1.106. Things work fine that way... But I want it to show up automatically.
Both my mac are in the same workgroup if that makes a difference. Also running Vista Ultimate on the PC and 10.5.2 on the Mac.
Kinda puzzling since XP shares showed up fine in 10.5, and I had a hard time getting Mac shares to show up in XP.

    Called Applecare,
My issue went all the way up to an "Apple Engineer."
They told me 10.5 does not actively search for SMB shares.
I say "That is impossible because XP is automatically listed in the Finder sidebar anytime a computer is available."
I get an 'over the phone shrug' and that was the end of the call.
Can some network genius out there help me?!?

  • Outlook 2007 (on vista) will not show when trying to synchronize in v4.3

I've installed DM v4.3 on vista and and want to synch with MS Outlook (2007). However, in the synch configuration (calender, contacts, etc.) my options are:
    <none>
    <Yahoo>
    <ASCII Importer/Exporter>
Where is Outlook?? Does anyone know why it's not showing up? I'm not using an enterprise server. I have seen this work on the same set-up so I know it's not a compatibility issue. Any help would be greatfully appreciated!!

    Nikon E5000
Do you mean a NIkon CP 5000 (Coolpix 5000)? Aperture supports many raw formats, but not all, because the raw support  has to be camera specific. Not all NEF files are in the same format - all Nikon cameras will call their raw files NEF.
For some cameras Aperture never included raw support. The currently supported cameras are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
It looks like your camera is not on this list, so if you want to shoot raw with that camera, develope the raw files using a different raw converter (Adobe's dng converter or the suftware that came with your camera) and import tiff or dng files to Aperture.

  • Leopard DVD Vista Tracks not showing up on iTunes Music Library.

Yet again, another obstacle in what I thought would have otherwise been the simple task of converting iTunes purchases to audio CD.
My MacBook is refusing to do ANYTHING with CD-Rs, so I am trying to drop some purchases from a DVD back-up burned on my Mac a few days ago, onto a VISTA platform.
I just dropped an album onto the relevant iTunes folder in this VISTA computer, and I was about to try and burn to audio, only it is not showing up in iTunes > Music!
The other option I looked into a few months back was to simply drop the tracks on this VISTA computer by simply plugging my iPod into a USB port, only it wont allow me to do this unless I reformat my iPod with windows firmware!
    This is absolutely ridiculous!
What is going on here, why is this simple task turning into a nightmare?

I solved this. I simple had to select the tracks in windows explorer and press <enter> and they then showed up in iTunes Musis.

  • Windows Vista Partition Not Showing Up in OSX

    Hi,
I have a Windows Vista partition that is not visible under OSX, and I have MacFuse/NTFS-3G installed.
When I open up Disk Utility, I can see the Vista partition, named as "disk0s3" but when I try to mount it... it says "The disk 'disk0s3' could not be mounted".
If I use boot camp and load into Windows Vista, I can see my Macintosh HD fine using MacDrive... and I can read/write to it.
Anyone have any ideas as to why I can't mount my Vista partition in Leopard?
    Thanks.

Yea, I tried Paragon NTFS, but the Vista partition doesn't show up in the list.
I'm starting to wonder if I checked on GUID partition (heard tht matters for boot camp) when I installed OSX and Windows Vista.
The drive that I have in my Macbook Pro right now is 500gb seagate momentus that I got from OWC. Ever since I re-installed everything on this new drive, I have not been able to see the partition.
On my older drive, the one that came with Macbook Pro, I could see the Windows partition.
Do you guys think the GUID option has something to do with it?

  • Vista SP1: not showing up due to incompatability w/ drivers on 3000 N100

According to Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343, Cause 5), Vista SP1 has "known problems" with certain devices & drivers, among them:
    Biometric (Fingerprint) Sensors
    • AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor with the Atswpdrv.sys driver file – version 7.7.1.7 or earlier
Latest driver from Lenovo: 7.7.0.19 (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67300)
This, of course, is preventing Vista SP1 from being deployed to my laptop. I use the fingerprint reader frequently, and do not want to lose functionality of it, though it is somewhat problematic. Is Lenovo aware of this, and is an updated driver forthcoming, or....?
edit: I forgot to mention, I have downloaded a "newer" driver from HP; their Atswpdrv.sys driver file is 7.9.0.4, which is newer. I may be able to replace the file in question, thereby updating the driver file.  I don't see a way to attachthe file here, but AFAIK, simply updating the sys driver file shouldn't affect anything, but should allow SP1 to work, right?  I've just done this, will reboot and let everyone know....
edit #2: GOOD NEWS! Replacing just the sys file didn't work; using the "update driver", and allowing it to use the .inf from HP to install the driver, updated it to 7.9.0.4, and SP1 now shows up under Updates.
Now, when will LENOVO catch up so no one has to do this work-around?  BTW, if anyone else needs this, simply reply to this post and I'll upload the files somewhere.

    Instructions:
Download the HP file from here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-56164-1&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en...
You'll need to extract the files using WinRAR (WinZip will not work); you'll need to download and install WinRar (www.rarlabs.com), then right-mouse on the file you downloaded in step 1, select "extract to" and choose a destination.
Go to Device Manager, select the Authentec AES2501A, choose "update driver", and browse to the location you extracted the files to in step 2.
Voila! Do not run the install file, as it's designed for HP/Compaq computers, of course, so I don't know what it would do.  However, I now have Vista SP1 installed and all apears to be running normally.

  • Vista Business not showing as valid OS for ordering Windows 7

Around July 6 there was at least one thread that mentioned when trying to order windows 7 upgrade for Pavilion Elite e9150t (product NY810AV) with Vista Business factory installed, the only current operating system in the dropdown is Vista Home Premium.  This upgrades to a lower level of Windows 7 than Vista Business.
This was reported fixed at that time, but is apparently broken again.
Is there any kind soul out there who can fix it again?  I called the customer support number and got the usual runaround.  (Updating now, try later.  When I didn't buy that, they they would escalate to HP and send me an email in 1 day - didn't happen).
I am sure I am not the only one with this issue.
    Thanks so much.

An additional note - I did try the browser tool to identify my OS - said it couldn't find it and to call customer support.  Perhaps because it was Vista Business and not Vista Home Premium?  Thanks.

  • Vista not showing up in startup disc pref?

I have Vista 64bit Business installed, via a bootcamp partition on a second internal drive on my 8 Core Mac Pro, which is running 10.6.2. Occasionlly I will use VMware fusion running off my bootcamp partition, but yesterday when I tried this, vmware said that it couldn't find the specified files. I could see the hard drive on my destop but when I went into the prefs > startup disk I did not see Windows OS? Normally it is there. If I restart my computer and hold down the option key I can then select the Windows partition. I am assuming that my issues with vmware are related to the windows partition not showing up in my startup disk prefs. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Obviously you are not using a PowerPC G5.... and you didn't add an NTFS driver like that in Paragon or MacFUSE etc to write to NTFS drives.
Normally, for me, Windows is not shown... I make changes in Windows. And you didn't move the drive or partition at all.
I'd boot from Windows DVD and do system repair, also next time in Vista (natively) have it do a full check disk.

  • Qosmio G30-126 - Win7 or Vista instaltion hdd not showing

    Hello everyone,
i have one system Qosmio g30-126.
I dont have the recovery cds.
I want to instal the Win7 or Win Vista.
He is not showing me the both 200+200 HDD.
plz telling to me what i do.

    Hi mate
I think you dont need a SATA driver but RAID driver!
As far as I know the Qosmio G30 supports RAID and therefore you need to include the RAID driver.
Visit the Toshiba European driver page and download the RAID driver which is listed in the list.
Note: Choose the Archive in Product Type because G30 is an older series.
After you have downloaded and uzipped the driver, you will have to add this driver during the Windows installation setup.
