Vista laptop sees printer but won't connect

Vista laptop sees printers on xp server network but won't let me connect telling me "access denied" and "you do not have sufficient rights to perform this operation". What's up with this?

Yes, getting XP and Vista to share correctly is no small feat.  I don't think you have a printer, printer software or driver problem.  I think you have a Windows sharing problem.  Have you googled for solutions in other areas?  Microsoft's forums?
I was able to help someone else yesterday with this post (and some of their ingenuity as well).  Maybe it will help.

  • Airport Express/Mac work fine, Vista PC sees network, but will not connect

I have been working on this for two days. What can I do? I have the latest firmware on the airport express and my utilities are up to date on both PC and Vista (airport s/w ver 5.3.2). It all worked before. Also, my brother wireless printer sees network, but will not connect.

I have a similar issue. I have an AP Express set up for WPA2 Personal, G only. My Mac mini connects fine. My Dell mini9 with XP connects fine. My Dell desktop with Vista64 connects fine, but is local only, no internet.
I have completely reset the AP to factory settings and reconfigured it using the Vista machine, but still no luck. What is going on? Anyone?

  • Windows XP MCE sees network but won't connect

    Hello
I've managed to get my AAEB working with two of my computers, one is a regular desktop which is connected through the wired outputs, this works like a charm.
The other is my personal laptop, an Acer Ferrari with Windows XP pro, this now also works perfectly on the wireless system.
Now I'm trying to get my brothers laptop to connect to our network and internetconnection through the AAEB. His laptop sees the network but when I try to connect to it it's not possible, I never even get to the part where I have to enter the password.
I'm using WPA/WPA2 for security and as stated having no problems on my own computer that's running WinXP Pro, but this one that runs WinXP MCE can't connect.
I've tryed disabling the security on the AAEB and when I do that it's possible to connect with the WinXP MCE.
    Please help :'(

Thank you very much for your suggestion.
It might be me who doesn't understand fully what you mean but my problem is that I can't get the PC to connect to the wireless network.
If I plug in a ethernet cable everything works like a charm however. But I just get an error when trying to connect to the Wlan that the network might not be available anymore, eventhough I'm using it on my personal laptop at this very moment.
edit in response to your post also, I never get far enough for it to even try to recieve an IP

  • Windows XP (SP3) laptop - sees Airport Extreme, won't connect

I am using an older (2003) Toshiba Satellite laptop that is running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. I had been using a Linksys G router and adapter for years with no problem, but we recently upgraded to a Time Capsule for Wireless-N. We're using WPA/WPA2 Personal security. My wife's Macbook Pro connects with no problems at all.
The laptop will connect when the network is unsecured, but it won't connect with WPA security. I see the network under the "Choose a wireless network" choice, I can double-click it, I enter the password, and it then thinks for about a minute. After that, it just stops with no message at all, and I'm still not connected. I updated the drivers to no avail, and the card (Linksys WPC54G) specs say it supports WPA. Any idea what the problem might be?
    Thanks!

Hello ChrisLS. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Check out the following iFelix article to see if it will help: Problems connecting an XP PC to an Airport Base Station. Although it is written for connecting to an AirPort Base Station, it will apply equally as well for the Time Capsule.

  • Anyone know why my wifi sees 5G but won't connect?

I have an Air Port Extreme router, the new tall one. Full 2.4/5ghz Dual-Band. Of course all my Apple devices will connect and activate 5G and I see between 800mbps to 1200mbps connection speeds. However I've tried THREE different brands of Wifi AC Dual-Band devices for my Windows gaming rig and while ALL will see both the 2.4G and 5G router wifi connections, any attempt to connect to the 5G will just see it ignored and it connects to the 2.4G. Signal quality for both is 100%.
I even have the 5G set to 40mhz (channels 48-187) and it won't work. If I set up the router to split the 2.4G and 5G as two access points, the 5G won't even show up for my Windows box.
Has anyone run in to this? Is Apple up to shenanigans or am I not understanding how this works? For now my rig is on 2.4G and seeing 144mbps instead of the 800mbps I am seeing on my Apple's 5G connections.
    Thanks for any help.

Are you using SMB compatible names, ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Obviously a different name for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
Try removing the security.. just for a test. If it won't connect with name correct and no security then there is something wrong in the computer.. but each wireless device should have a different driver.. if not make sure you download the latest driver for it.
Put the wireless security back as soon as you finish testing of course.

  • Airport card sees networks but won't connect.

    I'm not entirely sure why.
Wired ethernet works fine, and our G4 Desktop's Airport card works fine.
Mine, however, is being a bit wonky.
I shut the computer down for the night about a week ago.
Brought it back up and got the "There was an error joining AirPort network *our SSID*".
Fine, sometimes it does that. I wait and it usually works in a few minutes.
    Not this time.
We rebooted our Linksys WAP and our Cisco router, no good.
Shut the iBook down again, reseated the Airport card, fired it back up and paid close attention to the verbose boot this time.
    Nothing abnormal, no errors.
    Still no wireless connection.
I've tried connecting to other wireless networks around us, and we even defaulted the WAP back to out of box state (i.e. it was wide open and not passworded), but nothing. Every other wireless device in the house (G4 desktop, Dell laptop, and a Toshiba tablet) works just fine.
The computer can SEE wireless networks, but it can't connect to anything.
There have been no major system updates recently, and the only program I've installed in the past 3 MONTHS has been the World of Warcraft Burning Crusade expansion. Nothing else has changed, which is what's stumping me.
    I'm starting to wonder if:
    A) I'm overlooking something incredibly simple.
    B) My airport extreme card is dying.

firstly, tesserax, a tremendous thank you for your help. unfortunately, i tried each step you suggested, but the problem continues.
step 1: i have tried and failed to connect to several different networks in a handful of locations (home, work, friend's house, local coffee shop, etc.).
step 2: i have disabled my own wireless encryption as well as the wireless encryption at a friends house, however, to do so i had to use their ibook, as my own either didn't list the base station in the AirPort utility (although it did list the base station in the AirPort status pull down), or it asked for a password even though the base station wasn't password protected (maybe this may add some insight into the issue?).
step 3: i have connected the computer directly to the modem using an ethernet cable and was able to go online - perhaps this means the problem is related solely to the card.
step 4: i moved the the com.apple.networkConfig.plist file and and the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop and restarted. unfortunately, OS did NOT rebuild the files. instead, i had to go through the network diagnostics to rebuild them manually. while the files were replaced, the problem was not solved.
step 5: i reset the PRAM, but the problem still exists.
step 6: i reset the PMU, but the problem still exists.
i then tried various combinations of your suggestions, including moving the files out of the preferences folder and then reseting the PRAM and the PMU, but still nothing.
after having attempted every fix i could think of (and that was before posting to this forum) i did a full erase and install of the OS. since that's usually the cure all to whatever ails the computer, it's my assumption that the issue is a physical (hardware) one. that said, if you have any other suggestions i will be more than happy to give them a shot.
    thanks again,
    brad

Glad to hear it is all straightened out. You are right about the upgrade cost. That is one reason why Adobe switched to monthly licensing—no more upgrade cost <g, r, & d>. Of course we do have nearly monthly product upgrades. It is almost like playing whack a mole.

Just got comcast triple play.  Original ipad sees network but will not connect.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • We use an Airport Extreme in my office, which works fine for me. Occasionally we need to have more than one computer running on it, but for some reason it won't connect to the internet. It says we have internet, but won't connect to wifi. What's going on?

I use my computer everyday in our office and have no issue connecting to the internet/wifi, but when my boss comes in and tries to connect it doesn't work. It tells her she has internet, but won't connect to the wifi. We've tried a few different tactics(the basic ones I've seen on here), but nothing seems to be working for us. My computer automatically connects to our wifi.
Just recently the Airport Extreme has started with the blinking amber colored light on the front, which I believe means something is wrong? Can anyone help us figure out what's going on and why we can't get my boss' computer to connect as it should?
    Thank you!

    Here's an update:
Now the light is not blinking. It's a solid, consistant green. I don't know if it helps to narrow it down or anything, but I just figured I'd mention it.

  • My iphone wont turn on when connected to a laptop or pc,but when its connected to my dock, its shows it need restoration what should i do?

my iphone wont turn on when connected to a laptop or pc,but when its connected to my charging stereo, its shows i need to conect to itunes but then after 10-15 min. it turns off.

    Hi Monzairita,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone only powers on when connected to a dock, and shows the "connect to iTunes" screen, start with these troubleshooting steps:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Best Regards,

  • Bonjour sees my printer but won't let me connect to it.

We've got a canon mp460 hooked up via USB to our mac mini which runs 10.5. I installed bonjour on my new laptop, which runs vista. The printer wizard SEES the printer, but when I try to connect to it I get a message that says "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer"
I've turned off all the firewalls, enabled printer sharing, and everything else I can think of. Any thoughts?

*I got it to work after the Bonjour Printer Wizard proved ineffective.*
    Here is what I did:
    1. Installed the iP4500 printer driver from CD (v 2.11) while the printer was connected to my WinXP machine with a USB cable.
    2. Reconnected printer to AEBS and restarted AEBS.
    3. Select 'Add a new printer' in Windows
    4. Select 'Local Printer' in the dialog box (auto detect and install
    should be off), click next.
    5. Choose 'Create a new port' and "Standard TCP/IP Port'. Click next.
    6. For the printer IP address, enter the address of the base station 10.0.1.1.
    *7. Set Port Number: 9103*
    - The one time the Bonjour Print Wizard saw my iP4500 and set it up, it append '9103' to the location name. I assumed it selected port 9103. After trying ports 9100, 9101, and 9102 (which all failed to work), I successfully connected with port 9103. Oddly, the Bonjour port still does not work.
    8. Click next.
    9. For the device type, choose 'Canon iP4500 series', then click Finish.
    10. Choose your printer from the list and follow the rest of the prompts to install and configure the driver.
*It now prints color duplex from my WinXP machine across the wireless network.*

  • Laptop sees Photosmart on network, but won't connect

I have a Pavilion dv4 with Windows 7.  I have a Photosmart C4795.  My printer used to be hooked up to my desktop, but my HP Desktop has crashed and it's trash.  So now I'm trying to hook my laptop up to my printer on the network.  For two days, I was able to connect and download with no problems, but my laptop would never print.  Wouldn't even do a test page.  Uninstalled and reinstalled at least 10 times.  I ran the scan doctor and it said there was nothing wrong with my printer, but it wouldn't print a test page either.  It then had me do an internal test page and that one work, so it diagnosed that the software was bad.
All of that was yesterday.  NOW TODAY, I uninstalled and reinstalled the software.  It's the most up to date software and drivers from the HP Support page.  Now, my printer recognizes that the printer is on the network, but won't install the printer.  It did the diagnostics, then brought up the screen where it showed my computer on the left, modem in the middle, printer on the right.  It gets about halfway through setting it up, then quits and says it can't complete.  I ran the scan doctor again and it says that the full software version is not installed.  I JUST downloaded it from the website and installed it twice and it won't work.  The version I download from the website is around 146mb, but when I download it from the scan doctor page, it's over 200 mb.  I run that software and it is exactly the same.
I have tried to set it up via usb.  It gets to the 7th of the 8 steps, then it won't go any further.  Again, the printer is detected, but it says the appropriate drivers aren't there.
I have tried to set up it's own port using it's USB and a different driver, but that gives me an error.  Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000003eb).)
Would someone please help me, and then if I reply with what it is doing next, please respond?
Please help me get through this.  Two days now and I don't have a solution.
    Just me, friebe13
