Vista migration from another notebook

I had a200-23u with vista home pro installed and many other software. Then I had to gave it another man, but before I had made disk image, which includes vista also.
Now I've bought a200-23u with vista home pro too. I know, that oem versions could not be copied to another pc's even if the wont be used on an old ones. But my situation is a bit different, as i think. If I copy a disk image to hard disk it would replace currently installed vista with vista from that notebook. But I suppose, they are equal, so the question is: is it legal to enter to that vista key from the newly bought notebook to make it feel as it is from a new notebook?
The reason why i dont want to use installed vista is the necessity to reinstall all software and to configure it.

In my opinion you can do this. With your notebook you have also bought one license for own usage.
Do it and save a time for OS configuration.

  • Migration from another CMS – how could be done, what can be re-used?

    Hello,
I am discovering Webcenter Sites, and would like to know if there are standard tools to migrate from another CMS (e.g. UCM):
    – how could be done, what can be re-used?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vince

Could you describe in more details what exactly you need?
    a) In Oracle there is an organization called Migration Factory which can do the work for you - if it is a one-off task, I'd go with them, or with a partner.
    b) You mentioned UCM - does this mean that you have a Site Studio website(s) that you want to migrate to WebCenter Sites? Why, and why just now? You could probably live for few more years with Site Studio - I believe that very soon Sites and Content will much more integrated and the migration will be much easier.
    c) I'm not sure if there is any tool for migrating templates, but I'd definitely try to leave the content (images, videos, documents) in UCM - at the moment, Sites integrate with other Content Repositories (MSSO, Documentum), so UCM will hopefully be added soon.

  • How can I find my other user account migrated from another mac?

I used time machine to backup all the data from my macbook and then I used the migration assistant on my imac and transfer those data to the imac.
Everything was successful and after that. I can see the new user account under my hard drive > User folder but I dont have privilege to open the file.
And on the other hand, I got no way to login that user ID.
    How can I fix that?

what do you mean? do you mean the migrated user doesn't show up at the login window? or that the password doesn't work?

  • I need to import local Thunderbird files whose accounts have expired since I migrated from another computer. Help, how do I recover these emails?

I have to read emails from 2 or 3 years ago, which were held in Thunderbird, until the machine broke down. I have the data backed up, but I can't get it recognised by new Thunderbird. I can see every message encrypted in the folders. However because the account was closed by someone else, no email migration product or method will work with my local folder messages, because there is no account to authenticate.
Please provide me with a simple email view that will allow me to passively browse and read these emails, so that I can copy relevant ones to my active email account and forward to the person who needs them.

There is an add-on to TB which allows import and export of emails in various formats to/from a separate storage medium (external disk, thumb drive, etc.). You should be able to use that to import your backup file(s).
The instructions on how to download and install it can be found at http://barryduggan.info/exportMail.php

  • Can both the old(migrated from another external HD) and new time machine backup be read on iMac?

    HI,
I lately migrated the time machine backup from an external HD(WB) to a new one(G Drive).  If I connect the new one i.e. G Drive to my iMac for Time Machine, will there be a new folder created in G Drive?  Will it be a new backup i.e. backup everything on iMac?  Can the old time machine backup be read when I enter Time Machine on my iMac?  Thanks in advance.

Can I choose what to migrate from one mac (Powrebook G4) to another mac (New iMac)?  I do not want everything to be migrated, as some programs are not compatible with Mountain Lion or an intelIntel mac!
As it is a brand New iMac I would also like to keep it clean of unnecessary files that have become  imbedded in the Powerbook over its time.Therfore it would be nice if I can pick and choose what is to be transferd. If you can give me a heads up on if and how it would be appreciated!!!

Thanks for your input!… I have now come across an Article from Apple
    Migration Assistant tips and tricks
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3231?viewlocale=en_US
    Controlling what is migrated
With Migration Assistant you control the data that is migrated from another Macintosh computer. By clicking the triangle next to a user's name, you can select which User Accounts to migrate and choose which folders to migrate. You can also choose whether to migrate Applications, Network and Computer settings, or Volumes. Migrating only what you need can reduce the time it takes to complete your migration.

  • Possible cause for Faces failures (migration from an older version)

I've had no luck with Faces recognizing faces in images.
I think that the issue is with how the images got to iPhoto.
I imported 2000+ images from my iBook (iPhoto 04). Of those, Faces failed in ~>95% of the images. Today, I took two junky photos with Photobooth, including a dark and distant shot. Faces recognized that there was a face in the image, although it hadn't learned the face, yet (I know, that takes time).
I believe the issue might have to do with the fact that I imported images from a distant version (i.e. coming from iPhoto 4 instead of iPhoto 07 or 08, or whatever).
Or, possibly that I migrated from another machine as opposed to upgrading iPhoto on the same machine?
Hopefully this line of reasoning will isolate the problem's cause.
Please reply if you are having success or not, as well how your photos got into iPhoto '09 (i.e. Migration from another computer and type, prior iPhoto version, etc.)
    I'll start...
I migrated my images from iPhoto 4 from an iBook (PPC) and have had very little, if any, success with Faces recognizing faces in images.
    Thanks!

I just imported (from my Treo) three images that were exactly the same as the three successes from Photobooth.
Being from different sources they cannot be the same. Maybe the face in the photo was the same but the rest of the file, i.e. the metadata is different. Some image sources write metadata differently and that can cause issue. It's probable that iPhoto is expecting the metadata to adhere strictly to the EXIF/ITPC standards and some of the sources don't in writing the metadata to the file.
Report the problem to iPhoto via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html and give the details of the photos as you've done here. That will help them better understand the issue and get a fix out.

  • My new iMac is not shipping with Lion installed. Will I be able to do a Migration from my PC to my iMac without installing Lion first?

My new iMac is not shipping with Lion installed. Will I be able to do a Migration from my PC to my new iMac? I only want to transfer photos and my music, currently on my PC (and on my iPod Touch & iPad).
Can anyone give me a list of steps to follow or let me know if Migration Assistant is available prior to Lion for PC to Mac?
Thank you so so so much!
    -SweetDee

    SweetDee,
I'd be VERY surprised if your machine was not shipping with Lion installed. However even if it doesn't when you initally install Lion it will launch into Setup Assistant, if you follow the prompts it will ask if you are migrating from another machine. You can use Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips for help, look for the section(s) on MS Windows migration. Also I would strongly recommend bookmarking and studying the following sites:
    Switch 101
    Mac 101
    Find Out How Video tutorials
In closing remember you have 90 days of free telephone support with AppleCare. If you run into trouble they will be happy to assist or if you have an Apple Store in your area you can book an appointment with a Genius and they can usually help you out.

  • I can't migrate from my old mac

    Hello--
I have an old mac, OSX 10.4.11, and a new mac OSX 10.8.2. I have updated both computer's migration assistants, and followed the tutorial for migration assistant on Apple's support section. I've even tried several ethernet cables!
I click "migrate to a new mac" on my old mac, then "migrate from another mac" on the new mac, and the new mac tells me I need to update my migration assistant on my old mac. Since I just did that, I can't find any other apps that would involve a new/different update of migration assistant.
My old mac is pretty putsy and old... it's turning 7 this year. I haven't always been good about keeping all programs updated on it. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Kate

Create a backup of the old computer onto an external HD using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy cloner or if you want do a one time backup clone using Disk Utility. Then use Migration Assistant along with the back up EHD and you're all set.  Remember it will migrate apps if you have chosen that feature however you probably have some old PPC based apps  that  will not run on Mountain Lion.

  • Migration from PowerPC G5 OS X 10.4

    Here is the situation.
I have a PowerPC G5 OS X 10.4. The G5 has two harddrive. HD1 has all the applications. The user account is on a secondary harddrive (i.e. HD2). I want to migrate the user account to iMac (Intel 10.6).
If I chose migrate from another Mac. iMac thinks the user account has 0 Kb, since all the files are on the HD2. If I chose imgrate from another disk, iMac can not find the HD2 even thought HD2 is connected through Firewire and showed up on iMac desktop.
I copied all the account info manually. Because of the difference between 10.4 and 10.6, and Intel vs. PowerPC, all my application messed up.
Is there other way I can migrate?
    Thanks,
    ttk

    Hello
try use an ethernet cable , migrate by network option should work better in your case

  • Migration from weblogic6.1 to OC4J

    Hi,
We are evaluating OC4J to migrate our application (EJB2.0). Currently we are evaluating weblogic6.1 too. We have 66 local entity beans and 7 session Facade(for those local Entities) beans. It's perfectly working with weblogic.
Here I would like to mention that OC4J talks NOTHING about how to specify OC4J-specific XML descriptors. 'How to create EJB2.0' compatible stuff are already provided by SUN & co. OC4J-docs must also say how to deploy it into OC4J. HOW CAN "OC4J" EXPECT THE DEVELOPER TO START EASILY TO MIGRATE FROM another APP-SERVER?
Allright, this is the problem we are facing after INVENTING some of "how to specify OC4J-specific XML descriptors" on our own. Please correct me if anything is incorrect.
When we tried to deploy into OC4J, we couldn't invoke local entity beans using JNDI lookup.
Weblogic gives two tags "jndi-name" & "local-jndi-name" to specify JNDI names of remote & local respectively.
Orion has only one 'location=' attribute to specify JNDI location for a bean, for Entity beans presumably it takes for remote-beans, even if I don't specify any remote home/interfaces.
OC4Js 'How-To: Implement Local Interfaces' says that we need to have 'ejb-local-ref' in each referring ejb. In that case I've to create atleast 50 'ejb-local-ref' tags in each of my 7 session beans. Is that really OK?.
I would like to know whether there is any way of specifying JNDI names for local CMP's in one place, not in all other referring EJBs.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Sasikumar.

    Hi Sasikumar,
In order to fully understand your situation, please answer the following
    questions:
    1. Are you using the latest, standalone, production version of OC4J
    (version 9.0.2.0.0)?
    2. Are you using Java 2 SDK version 1.3.1_02?
    3. Are you using Windows2000?
    4. Are you using the latest, production version of JDeveloper 9i?
    5. Have you read the documentation for OC4J -- available from
    http://tahiti.oracle.com
    6. Do you know about the "BEA to Oracle Migration Kit"?
    http://www.oracle.com/consulting/start/BEAmigration/intro.html?src=1260040&Act=8
    and
    http://technet.oracle.com/products/ias/pdf/weblogic_migration.pdf
    7. Do you know about these other, OC4J related web sites:
    http://www.orionserver.com
    http://www.orionsupport.com
    http://www.atlassian.com
    http://www.elephantwalker.com
    8. Do you know about these tools for automatically creating EJB related
    files (including XML deployment descriptors)
    http://beust.com/cedric/ejbgen/
    http://opensource.itplus.dk/EJBCreator/index.html
    http://www.myhtg.com/product.html
So if you haven't exhausted all of the above, I suggest you do so
before throwing a tantrum about OC4J. If you have exhausted the above,
and you still can't work with OC4J, then I suppose you could always
just stick with BEA (couldn't you :-)
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Migrating from a Mini w/ Tiger to a Mac Pro w/ Leopard

Tomorrow FedEx should be delivering a Mac Pro that I got a sweet deal on via the Apple Refurbished Macs store online. I want to migrate the apps I have installed on a Mac Mini onto the Mac Pro so that I don't have to reinstall them, and I wouldn't mind having all my preferences and settings show up on the new Pro as well.
I went by the Apple store in Green Hills and they gave me a primer on using the Migration Assistant to get stuff from one machine to the other. I have a question from my notes:
I've written down that "the Pro will ask if I want to migrate from another computer - select the Mini" (which I'll have connected via Firewired).
Then it is going to ask something like "Files" or "Home Folder" -- and I neglected to note which is the proper choice.
Anybody familiar enough with this routine to be able to tell me which choice I'm supposed to make at that juncture?
    Thanks,
    --PS

Is your Mini an Intel or PPC model? If the latter I'd recommend against using Migration Assistant. See the following:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (pre 4.0 does not work, 4.1 required for Leopard), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work, 4.6.1 required for Leopard), SuperDuper (newest release), and Drive Genius work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode or copying the critical contents to CD and DVD or an external hard drive will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.
Basically the instructions you should follow are:
    1. Backup your data first. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    2. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    3. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    4. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
    4. Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (* This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ copy any preferences needed for third-party applications
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to another forum user for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.
Written by Kappy with additional contributions from a brody.
If you plan to migrate an entire user account, then you cannot be logged into a user account with the same name. You should create your first admin account using a different name from the one you will migrate. You can log into your old account after migration and delete the other account.

  • Did you start w/ Fireworks, or switch from another app?

    This is a poll.
Did you start out making graphics as a Fireworks user, or migrate from another graphics program like Photoshop?

But every program has MANY similarities.
Start with the basic menus for file opening and saving, edits (Ctrl-Z for undo)
Selections: (Ctrl-A for all), bitmaps have magic wands and lasso tools
You can zoom in and out and move around in your document
Color selections are similar, RGB or HSL, sometimes CMYK. Values maybe 0-100, or 0-255, or even in hex
Vector objects (including text objects) have a fill and a stroke
Bitmap manipulation includes modifying brightness&contrast as well as color
    Layers are common
    Masking is common
Vector objects can be combined: joined/added or subtracted
The differences between programs are in the names of the tools, the organizations of the menus, and in the advanced operations that are available in the more specialized programs. For example, Fireworks is a hybrid vector-bitmap editing program, so it has some tools for manipulating both vector objects and bitmap programs. However, Illustrator, or other specilaized vector-editing programs will have more capabilites with vector objects than FW. Similarly, Photoshop or another dedicated photo or bitmap editor will have other capabilities FW doesn't have.
Instead of thinking in terms of "now I use this tool," think in terms of what you want to accomplish and then look for how that might be done. Along the way, you'll discover the other special capabilities of each program you use.

  • Migrating from 10.4 to 10.6 no LDAP?

We have a 10.4.11 server running ldap, file serving, pdc (for windows users), home directories for mobile users, etc.  It runs on a G5 xserve, with an attached xraid.  We are trying to migrate the whole kit n kaboodle over to a 2009 intel xserve running 10.6.8.  We used SuperDuper to make an image of the system disk on the G5, then we ran the install, and at the end when it asked if we wanted to migrate from another server we plugged in the SuperDuper copy and it ran right along* without any errors.  Our plan is that once the new machine is up and running we will shut down the old machine, unplug the various disk farms plugged into it, and plug them all into the new machine and fire it up.
We boot up the new server, and everything looks like it should (including it having the same name and IP address of the old server), with the exception that there are no user accounts in the user manager.
We are clearly missing a step here -- does anyone know what we missed?
*(tip -- we tried to do the ServerAssistant run with a USB drive, and we couldn't get ServerAssistant to see it.  We finally had the thought of redoing the process with a firewire drive, and it just worked.)

I did not experience any hassles going from 10.4 to 10.5. I do recommend that when you upgrade to the 10.5.n release that you download the Combo updates to your desktop and upgrade your system from there. Afterwards run "reapair permissions" from Disk Utility.
I transferred my iTunes and iPhoto library by dragging and dropping the old computer folders into the respective folders of each application. You should probably verify you have the same versions of iLife before you do the drag and drop method. Be sure to de-authorize your old computer in iTunes afterwards if you do not plan to use it with this iTunes library any longer.

  • Migrating from '04 imac (G4, Tiger 10.4.11, 1Gmem) to new iMac '09

I can't get the two migration assistants to connect since they get stuck in an infinite loop. I saw in one post about upgrading the OS on the iMac but I don't even think I can b/c it's so old. What other options do I have for using the migration assistant.

do both imacs have firewire ports? i think they should, although the old one may only have firewire 400. the new one has Firewire 800 only, I just checked. connect them by an appropriate firewire cable and boot the old mac in target mode (reboot it and hold "t" at the chime". then it will show up as an external drive on the new imac and you can migrate using migration assistant wuth the option to migrate from another hard drive or TM backup.

  • The days are gone when a customer service manager could actually serve the customer.

I can remember a day when asking to "speak to a manager" actually meant you were talking to someone who the company entrusted the authority to think outside box and take care of a customer.  AT&T has created a system where there is no real authority.
