Vista on MBP

I ran the vista compatibility software on my MBP and it reports that my graphics card, the nvidia geforce M 8600GT is not compatible.
Does Apple supply the drivers for this particular card in the bootcamp setup for windows vista 32 bit?
Does anyone have vista 32 bit running ok on their MBP with this card?
Thanks for any advice.

Say what?!
The compatibility report is probably tagging the ForceWare suite, which is perfectly normal. The GeForce 8 series chips have Vista drivers from Apple as of Boot Camp 2.1. The trick is that you'll want to remove the XP drivers first. Easy enough--go to Add/Remove Programs and take out the NVIDIA software.
Pretty much the same applies to the GeForce 9 series. If you have one of the new 5G portables (including the 2G Air), you'll have to get the drivers from your Install Disc 1.
In either case, it's advisable to take out the "conflicting" drivers before you upgrade, and then re-run Boot Camp to put the Vista drivers in.
Apple article HT1999 has a list (through October) of the drivers for each model that will run with BC 2.1/OS 10.5.4. The right column will list which OSes are compatible with a particular driver. If "Universal" is listed, you can pretty much leave that driver in no matter what; Vista will either replace it with a generic or leave it until you fix Boot Camp. If the driver is listed as "XP", it may not carry over and will probably need to be removed. When you reinstall Boot Camp, you'll repair the service portions of it and install Vista drivers.
For the newer 'Books, just use your Install Disc 1 again when you upgrade.

  • Does A2DP support in leopard mean A2DP driver for Vista on MBP?

Would love to have A2DP bluetooth support for my MBP, and I know it's coming next month. Also next month in leopard is the official release of Boot camp and therefore I should imagine a full bunch of windows drivers for the MBP. My question is, if they are bunging A2DP support into leopard do you think the bluetooth drivers written for windows will also include it? I mainly run Vista on my MBP (not out of choice, but you try getting Visual Studio to run on OSX).

  • Right mouse button and Windows Vista - 17'' MBP is ignored?

I am curious why Apple released a trackpad driver update, which enables right button in Windows (BootCamp), but for all models EXCEPT my 17'' Mac Book Pro?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2477
Since it is 2008 year update, it seems no more updates will be released. Why Apple ignores the users of 17'' MBP unibody?

for starters, the 17" unibody came out AFTER the update, so it should already have the software update.
second, right click has to be turned on via the Boot Camp utility in Vista.
& third, you should be posting in the unibody forum.

  • Using Windows Vista on MBP CoreDuo to have access to iCloud??

I'm afraid that I have to use Vista instead of MacOS X 10.6 on my MacBookPro 17" (A1051 with CoreDuo) to have access to iCloud.
Using Bootcamp, VirtualBox or completly replacing SnowLeopard?
This sounds very strange. And I don't really like Windose....
Beside the MBP, I use a MacPro with MacOS X 10.7 at home and a iPhone4 with IOS5.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
My Brightness and Backlight keys are working fine but I can't seem to change the volume using my remote or my keyboard volume buttons. The overlay comes up but theres a "no symbol (circle with line through it)" underneath the volume bar. Any ideas how I can fix this? (I can still chnge volume in windows, perhaps its a conflict with the windows driver in SP1)
I'm running a MacBook Pro 2007, and Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1 (just installed SP1, could have caused the problem).

I am having the same issue. Everything worked fine until the last week or so. I recently installed Vista SP1. Are you running Vista with SP1?

  • Bluetooth problems under Vista on MBP

I'm intermittently having bluetooth issues under Vista in Bootcamp on a new Macbook Pro. I'm using a Kensington bluetooth mouse. Sometimes it won't wake up and I have to disable and re-enable the bluetooth driver in order to get it detect the mouse again.
I've also now experience my second BSOD with the error STOP: 0x0000007E on bthport.sys.
Seems like this migth be a bad Bluetooth driver. Under device manager it's just listed as a "Generic Bluetooth Adapter".
Anyone else experiencing these issues or know of a better driver I could get?
    Thanks.

  • Vista and 802.11n on AEBS

    Hi,
I've been scratching my head over why I can't connect Vista to my new Extreme network.
I'm running a '802.11n only' network on 5ghz as it seems the best performing setup for my MBP.
Having installed Vista as a 'might need it ocasionally' thing using Bootcamp1.2 ( easy install and no problems) I tried to get onto my 'n' network.
Vista ses the network and prompts for password etc to connect (WPA2) but then says 'unable to connect to network' and diverts me to the usual highly helpful Help pages
The only clue I have to my problems is that Vista reports the network as a 802.11a network.
Does Vista on MBP actually have drivers for 802.11n ?
    Any ideas people ?
    Thanks
    Pete
    Macbok Pro C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Vista reports the network as a 802.11a network.
That is probably because you have specified 802.11n only which operates on the same 5GHz band used by 802.11a.
Others have reported joy getting Vista (under Bootcamp) to operate, however I don't recall if they used the 5GHz band. I suspect not.

  • Windows Vista on new MacBooks?

    Hi everyone,
I've ordered the new MacBook (13") and now I would like to ask you the following: does Windows Vista supports all hardware-features (especially the graphics card and backlit-keyboard) of the new MacBook (completely)?
I know, I can use Bootcamp to install Windows Vista natively, but I would like to know whether it's working great or not...
    Thanks in advance,

  • Fan Control Program for Windows Vista

Does anyone know of a program with which I can control my Macbook Pro fan speed? Whenever I run Vista, my MBP runs HOT. From what I can hear the fans are running at a minimum of 4500 rpms. Any help would much appreciated. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate in Boot Camp.

  • Heats up a lot on booting in Windows Vista

    Hello,
Have any of you guys faced this problem?
I have been noticing it for a past few days.
When I boot in Leopard it is fine but when I boot in Windows Vista the MBP becomes very hot.
Is this natural? Will it affect my notebook?
    Thanks

This is normal. The reason is that under Windows Apple drivers don't have the same access to control the hardware as it does under Mac OS X (for obvious reasons) to manage power usage and heat. It's no problem to your MBP, just your lap.

  • Troubleshooting Guide To Boot Camp 2.1

Troubleshooting Guide To Boot Camp 2.1
With a Mac Book Pro Os X Leopard and Windows XP Pro. I am providing this guide because I spent literally days fixing various problems most related to bad drivers. If I can save you the Nightmare I had it will be worth my time to write this guide for you!
    Install Windows XP on FAT32
While using Mac if you ONLY want to be able to read XP files (NTFS or FAT32) then skip this section because OS X Leopard is able to correctly detect NTFS and FAT32 disks in READ ONLY mode.
However if you want to be able to read & write XP files (NTFS or FAT32) in Mac then you would install a program like Paragon NTFS or NTFS-3G. However once you do this you will experience this Problem:
Windows partition missing from Mac 'startup disk' menu when using NTFS-3G or Paragon NTFS in Mac (Bootcamp 2.1 fails to fails to show windows disk in startup menu after installing NTFS-3G or Paragon NTFS)
It is unclear who is to blame for this bug. Both Paragon and NTFS-3G DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX the problem so the finger is pointed at this being an Apple Boot Camp bug! Don't hold your breath for a bug fix from Apple because I saw people have been having this problem for several years. It would be nice if the Apple cared a bit more about the Windows people they are trying to win over but anyway we are greatful for Boot Camp (even if it is as buggy as ****).
First my personal experience, I had it working perfectly before and after loading NTFS-3G onto my Macbook. I also had it working perfectly with Paragon NTFS. Then after a few months I reinstalled XP. Suddenly it no longer worked! Very fustrating when you KNOW it can work perfectly. It took me several days to figure out that this due to the fact that I had first installed XP and formated as FAT32 but the second time had installed XP and formated as NTFS!!
ONLY KNOWN Solution for this problem :
Format XP using FAT32. Apple understands FAT32 and everything will work as normal!
Do not format using NTFS as Apple does not understand it and XP will be missing from the 'startup disk' menu!
NTFS users can use this work around solution :
Install Paragon NTFS and use Paragon to set your boot partition and then reboot.
    The least desirable solution :
Hold the ALT key down while booting and choose XP.
    Install Boot Camp version 2.1
Using the the disc that comes with your Apple Mac Book Pro.
After Installation update the following drivers to these versions or newer :
    Broadcom 802.11 Wireless (5.10.91.8) (4321AG) (*)
    Realtek HD Audio R2.27 (5.10.0.5874) (2009-06-16)
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT v185.85 (07.05.2009) (v6.14.11.8585)
    Note (*)
Broadcom 802.11 Wireless drivers must be force installed to 4321AG. You can do this after installation by using the device manager and updating the driver to 4321AG. These drivers are 'borrowed' from another Broadcom 802.11 Wireless device since an update for the BCM 4328 drivers are not available from Apple or Broadcom.

Problems Fixed By Doing These Updates
Bootcamp KbdMgr.exe Latency Problems Slowing Your XP
I could not fix this problem but found an easy work around.
First check if your latency is being affected by the 'KbdMgr.exe' driver. Use 'DPC Latency Checker'. If the latency is green then you are OK! Skip Adead. If your latency is red then kill the 'KbdMgr.exe' in the task manager and check the latency. If it drops then this work around applies to you.
Open the Boot Camp directory in your Program Files directory. The real 'KbdMgr.exe' is renamed to something else like 'Boot Camp.exe' so that you can use it to boot back to Mac when you want to. Create a shortcut to the new name from from your desktop.
Then create an empty text file and give it the name 'KbdMgr.exe'. This will allow your PC to boot normally and run normally but will prevent Boot Camp loading automatically.
    Wireless Problems
The Broadcom 802.11 Wireless drivers for the (BCM 4328) are unstable and often loose connection or freeze or stop working for no reason. The driver that causes this problem is version 4.170.25.12 (20/09/2007) BCMWL5.SYS
    Sound Problems
The Broadcom 802.11 Wireless drivers (BCM 4328) drivers cause sound problems. Music or sound stutters or slows on playback. The driver that causes this problem is version 4.170.25.12 (20/09/2007) BCMWL5.SYS.
    Apple Touch Pad Problems
The drivers supplied on the Boot Camp disc from Apple work but do not install correctly for some unknown reason but the drivers do work once you get them installed. The driver install files are :
    AppleMultiTouchTrackPad.exe
    AppleTrackpad.exe
Your Apple Touch Pad Drivers are working when Device Manager shows :
    Apple MultiTouch
    Apple Multitouch Mouse
And you can do a right click by holding two fingers on the touch pad and doing a click
You can scroll up and down using two fingers. Adjust the wheel scrolling speed to one line at a time under mouse properties in the control panel.
To install the drivers correctly use the Device Manager and look under Human Interface Devices. You should find two Apple 'Touchpad' drivers listed with a (Yellow !) change these drivers to use the 'USB Human Interface Device' driver. Then install both 'Apple MultiTouch TrackPad' and 'Apple Trackpad'. This should automatically update the 'USB Human Interface Devices' to the correct working Apple drivers. This worked for me. However if you are still having problems you can try the General Driver Installation Tips.
    General Driver Installation Tips
Uninstall all devices drivers that are failing and reboot.
Make sure all non-Apple drivers are working properly. If not try and fix them first. I had a Logitech Mouse driver that was not working and suddenly when I fixed that at least half my Apple drivers started working. There was probably a resource conflict or some other relationship between the Logitech driver and the Apple Drivers.
If any driver is giving errors delete the physical driver file and reinstall! This is very useful when nothing you seem to do works. Sometimes you must physically delete the old driver file so that windows will correctly install the new one. I don't know the technical reasons for this only I found that this worked for me when I had to replace a Logitech Mouse driver after hours of fustration.
If you are busy in Device Manager and working with 'Human Interface Devices' and accidentally uninstall one of these drivers which are related to your mouse driver your mouse will stop working. Don't reboot, just unplug your mouse and plug it in again and Windows will autodetect a new mouse driver for you.
If you have been messing around and installing many drivers and your drivers still fail then try roll back the drivers until you can't anymore and then try one of the above methods again.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

It does work, but I think it is hard based on scant details as to why or what is preventing BC 2.1 from updating. I will say that BC 2.1 came out last spring and there were lots of people having trouble and threads to prove it (and long ones).
You should have Apple Software Update Control Panel which had to update itself to 2.1.1 in order to receive future updates that way (catch 22 if you can't, seems to be only to prevent older owners using BootCamp 1.4 Beta from taking advantage of BootCamp 2.x).
Mac OS X DVD now being sold has 10.5.4 and BootCamp 2.1. I assume your DVD of Leopard is older?

  • Hardware of software fault?

I have a really interesting problem with this MBP and so do many others with the intel processors.
    The problem is this,
Whenever this MBP connects wirelessly to anything (internet, peer to peer, LAN, WAN) it will lock up when ever it feels like it.
so far i have tried to lower the internal temperature, and the external temperature
Also had the MBP to pieces to to examine for burns/defects in the hardware all checked out fine. (on a seperate issue after only 10 months the inside of this computer was absolutely clogged with all kinds of matter and the over heating stopped as a result)
all hardware tests have come back clear everything from verify disk to tech tools pro and even the apple hardware test have all come back clean.
oh and the console is pretty much useless here to.
i have spent hours testing this laptop and the os has been reinsatlled and rolled back several times and no matter which version of osx is installed it will still lock up when ever it connects wirelessly.
which brings me on to the intersting point, when booted into microsoft windows vista, this MBP will work absolutely fine with no lockups and 100% functionallity, infact the only limitation is windows it self.
Could it be that apple havent quite got their software right?
    or are microsoft just better?
any feedback here would be greatly appreciated
    Thank you

If the latter, I'll leave it to others to discuss. If the former, post details of your connection, router model, security scheme, etc so that we can help you troubleshoot.

  • Boot Camp V2.1 gets HOT

I'm not kidding. After updating to V2.1 my temperature at boot up is 20-40 degrees higher! When I load up my online game it now goes to 180F before the fan kicks on. Before it only went to 140-150 and little fan was used. This is serious and needs to be fixed.
I am using Microsoft Vista Business x86 SP1
I also learned that its better to update to SP1 before going to Boot Camp V2.1. I got funky errors last time.
Any programs out there to control my fans? I don't like that input remapper.

You know I have a similar fan issue with Vista on MBP. It starts off hardly noticeable then allows laptop to get so warm it's has to play catch up so it speeds way up! But, I think Apple may be right. Apparently Windows may not be adjusting the fan properly. Because if you have ever owned a dell or a Gateway or any other PC laptop. The fans tend to cycle on and off high speed. Their really is no variable speed like Apple tends to do to keep noise down. So this is a educated guess. But it does appear at least in Vista it's unable to vary the fan speed properly. Too bad, but let's face it. Microsoft never designed Windows XP or Vista to run on a Mac. Apple has just made this possible and Microsoft says OK fine with us $$$$.

  • 60W vs. 85W charger for MacBook (aluminum)

Is there any reason why I can't use the 85W charging unit for a MacBook? I know it comes with the 60W version. Would the larger unit overheat the battery? I want to buy a second Magsafe charging unit to keep at the office and since they are both the same price would like to know if I would cause any damage by using the larger unit.
Also, noticing comments in another topic talking about battery cycles, isn't it bad to leave a computer on the charger 98% of the time? Shouldn't it be disconnected once the battery is fully charged? Is there circuitry that protects the battery if it's left on charge?

I sorta have the opposite question.
A friend and I both have Late 2008 Macbooks - but I have the Pro. I was using his 60W charger with no problems, except it was a little slow to charge - but I just needed a little top up.
I then switched to Vista to play Crysis and after about 30 minutes, between levels there was some silence and I heard a strange squeaking noise coming from the 60W adapter.
Needless to say I immediately unplugged it.
This then led to an interesting series of tests where we established that that on a scale of lots of noise to no noise, the 60W adapter behaved as follows:
Vista on MBP (Lots of noise)
Mac OS X on MBP (Some noise)
    Vista on MB (less noise)
Mac OS X on MB (no noise)
This is a little disturbing... For now I will only be using 85W adapters with my MBP, but what about vista on his MB? Could he fry his adapter?

  • How I solved MY 3GS wifi issues.

My Router, a Zyxel 660HW was causing very slow speeds for my 3GS. I swapped it out for a NetGear DGND33O0 and all is absolutely perfect now.
I also found that the Linksys WRT54G and GL models work. Many hotspots in my area failed the test as well. I'm not sure what brand they were, but just like at home, access was very slow.
    < Edited by Host >

I have a Zyxel 660-something DSL modem hooked up to a LinkSys WRT54GS which is configured to accept 802.11g-only (there are 3 other devices usually connected along with my iPhone). It works great with my iPhone and my download and upload speeds are always pretty much right at the limit of my DSL service (5M-down, 768K-up). I've been using Linksys wireless routers for years and have always had good luck with them with all sorts of devices (currently a mixed connection bag of an HP wireless printer, Win-Vista box, MBP and iPhone).
