Vista on Satellite L300D-10A - Graphics card resetted after renstallation

This is my story.
A few weeks ago my computer had crashed, so I decided to renstall Vista (Home Premium). After I did so, I noticed a lot of things had changed. For example, my screensaver didn't work anymore, and certain programs said they needed a video card wih 3D support. I knew i had a video card with 3d support, as these programs worked fine before the renstallation.
Then I looked around on the web, and I found more posts from people with the same problem, so I looked if I had an installation disk of the latest video drive for my video card, but i haven't got one. So, now I ask if someone knows where I can get the latest version, so I can continue using these programs.
Here is my (current) system & video card information:

Hello
Please don't understand me wrong but the whole story is somehow strange.
Fact is that every Toshiba notebook is delivered with factory state. Your notebook too and after first start you got default Toshiba settings. What you have done later nobody knows. Maybe you have installed some additional software and third part software. Who knows?
Now after clean OS installation you have these factory settings again and absolutely identical state after purchase and first start. this with screensaver is strange but it should work (Windows screensaver).
Software configuration of your notebook is not known to us and it is not easy to say what you are missing exactly.

    The whole issue is really mysterious. In my opinion there are two options;
Either your have used and tried to install a wrong graphic driver or there is something wrong with your GPU chip.
Are you 100% that you tired an right graphic driver from the Toshiba European driver page?
If yes, then I recommend contacting the ASP in your country because this could be really an hardware issue.
Furthermore I found you second posting in other thread

and I think more and more that this must be an graphic card issue.

  • Is anyone still having discrete graphics card problems after replacement

Is anyone still having discrete graphics card problems after replacement?
Macbook Pro eligible for replacement through Apple program.
Submitted my computer 2 days before program came into effect.
They replaced card or logic board with same original model: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB
Issued me a refund check for my repair.
Seems to have some noticeable issues, fan running more than usual again, and temporary graphic lines,
but disappear too fast before a screen dump...
Is anyone who has participated in the replacement program received a different graphic card for
Model Macbook Pro 17" (late 2011)
    Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately I have yet to call AppleCare because I am on a project for 3 weeks and cannot be without my laptop during that period....
Until that time I am trying to figure out what I can do to protect the Palm Rest/Mouse Pad area of my Macbook once they either fix it or give me a new one. Has anyone had any experience with either of these products that can provide some input as to whether they are good or bad?

To elaborate for others what you hopefully already knew about your setup.
Alot more trouble than it's worth since the GPU is name brand but frequently customized for the PC maker and even further customized for the particular chipset / cpu setup.
Tampering with those values is possible to varying degrees using purpose built LINUX distro's however the modifications are community based and anecdotal without manufacturers validation, the alterations can be damaging and Toshiba will be unsympathetic for rendering warranty assistance if they detect your alterations.
And that is why the process won't be as simple as upgrading a desktop GPU with a compatible boxed CPU.
I applaud your question and I'll spare you from elaborating why you want better graphics or which games you're unsatisfied playing since your dis-satisfaction and performance desires are uniquely your own.
Before you consider the tempting unsupported mod's I mentioned, you want to ensure your AMD's turbo is running full speed in the overclocked but unsupported manner AMD's are famous for and should determine if your games perform satisfactorily by overclocking the CPU's clock.
In respect for Toshiba, I'll avoid linking to the sites that describe overclocking AMD's since I personally find it unnecessary and the web has endless pages on the matter that you can assess yourself.
AS you suspect, overclocking assassinates your warranty but a gaming purist such as yourself already knows this and is unconcerned about warranties when striving for the best gaming experience possible.
Ask your question often enough and it will invite challenges as to why you find the card insufficient and eventually raise contemptuous advice to just live with it and tamper your expectations.
I refuse to pass judgement since your computer is yours and you're free to squeeze all the performance you can as long as you remain aware of your responsibilities when doing so.

  • Graphics card reset for macbook pro

I keep getting pixelization from time to time on my screen when it boots up.  How can I reset the graphics card to try to get rid of it?

    Hi urbanexus,
It sounds like if it boots to a pixelated screen you need to reboot to make it normal again. As screen settings are held it PRAM, try resetting that.
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

  • Satellite Pro 6100 Graphics Card Upgrade/Replacement

I have a Satellite Pro 6100 p4-m 2.0 30gb and the graphics card has died. I love this laptop.
It had an NVidia GeForce4 420 Go 16mb
Can I replace it with a GeForce4 420 Go 32mb from the same models.
Is there something more powerful available that works with no problems for the 6100? ie. GeForce4 440 Go 64mb?
    Cheers

Usually toshiba didnt offered a separate graphics card update but there were different graphics cards installed in your machine and THEORETICALLY you can use every of these cards in your machine. I cannot promise it but they should all work in this machine.
The problem is that you have to disassemble the machine completely and if you make something wrong then you know that there is no point of return since your machine is not anymore in the warranty. Maybe it would make sense to give the machine some technician to exchange the graphics card.
Unfortunately I cannot tell you which graphics cards fit in your machine or which partnumbers are needed. In this case youre on your own.
    Good luck

  • Satellite L650D-15K - graphic card issue

    Hi,
I updated accidentally the driver of the graphic card ATI Radeon 5650 on the laptop, and afterwards during gaming and video watching, the computer became very slow, the CPU usage is average over 60%.
I uninstalled the newest driver, reinstalled the driver of my module provided on the Toshiba website (not the one on my computer, as I cannot find where it is), but the problem remains, I do not know if the driver from the website is the same as the one on my laptop. It seems that there are some driver files which always cannot be deleted entirely. If I reinstall the whole system, I would install and activate all the software.
Can someone tell me what should I do now?
    Thanks.

Have you installed this newest driver from ATI support page or from Toshiba download page?
I mean it is recommended to use Toshiba drivers only. I cannot confirm this but Ive heard that installation of non-Toshiba drivers can change some important values in GPU BIOS.
Of course you can reinstall recovery image and start to use notebook with factory settings again.
It will be interesting to know if everything will be as before again.
Back-up all your important data, reinstall OS, test it and please post some feedback.

  • Satellite A300D - 14R - Graphic card is defective, need new one

Hi, I'm an Italian user. I have got this notebook from about 3 years. Usually I use this notebook to view films and surfing on internet. Yesterday I installed a game, medal of honor as specification, but after two minutes my Toshiba shutdown. At the restart, it shows me many artefacts before loading bios screen. Now at the start-up the screen remain black however the notebook seems to work regularly.
Now, how can I do to solve this problem? Maybe if I am replacing the graphics card, my computer may begin to work as before.
    What do you think about?
Can I ask to Toshiba or AMD another graphic card 3650 to complete this operation?
    Thanks to all... :)

Try with www.google.com > if you cannot find it Googling around then I really dont know how to help. Fact is that you cannot order this single part by Toshiba service providers.
Your only chance is to find some independent online shop where you can order it. Mostly such parts will not be offered as new one but as already used but well working parts.
It is not so easy to handle with such problems. What you can also try is to find defective A300D (defective CPU or display) and exchange GPU.

  • Satellite P100 (PSPA6E) Graphic Card Trouble NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900

I have big trouble with my graphic card!
Sometimes the whole display is a kind of "broken"... everywhere are kinds of artefacts to see, yellow "blocks" which are everywhere on top of all
opened tasks / windows like a kind of semi-transparent "mask".
I already tried to reinstall driver without success. Even if I shutdown and reboot the system... no success.
The failure is remaining, maybe the 512MB memory of the geforce is broken? Sometimes it happens that the failure is disappearing from a moment to another
    moment...
I really need some help... at the moment I´m writing my diploma and I really need my notebook for working.
    regards
    Christian

    > The failure is remaining; maybe the 512MB memory of the Geforce is broken? Sometimes it happens that the failure is disappearing from a moment to another
According to your description it looks like a hardware issue but its not easy to say what could be wrong exactly.
You could try to connect the external monitor to the notebook and could check if the same would appear on the second monitor. If the same would appear on the connected monitor then a graphic card problem could be possible.
Did you use non-Toshiba graphic card driver? If yes, then this could be the reason why the graphic card malfunctions. Fact is that non-Toshiba graphic drivers dont support a GPU overheating protection and in such case the GPU could overheats.
Therefore a 3rd party graphic driver can be used ONLY at your own risk!
However, if there is a hardware problem an ASP must be contacted!!!
I really dont see another solution s to ask an authorized service provider for a check.
    Best regards & Good luck

  • Best graphics card for After Effects CC?

Been pondering which CUDA card to get for my "Mid 2012" Mac Pro as I was sadled with a useless AMD Radeon HD 5870 by the systems builder, so even though I have 12 cores I get very little acceleration from Premiere Pro & After Effects CC when editing Canon 5D shot 1080p video.
So bottom line for a minimum spend that will also have a MiniDisplay port for my Apple Ciname screen, which of the listed Nvidia CUDA cards would you buy from the official list below?
    GeForce GTX 285
    GeForce GTX 675MX
    GeForce GTX 680
    GeForce GTX 680MX
    GeForce GT 650M
    Quadro CX
    Quadro FX 4800
    Quadro 4000
    Quadro K5000

UPDATE: I bought the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB in the end for my Mind 2012 Mac Pro (running Maverick 10.9.3) and it worked perfectly (well the Mac hung on first boot and I discovered I had to switch off my 27" Apple Cinema Display at the wall socket to reset it and then rebooted and worked perfectly)
It has sped up playback and rendering of 1080p HD video in Premiere and After Effects, almost realtime encoding when exporting in Media Encoder (unless I use Speedgrade which slows down rendering by 4 times!)
I even managed to sell my old ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card on Amazon, so was a cheap upgrade in the end and well worth it.

    hallo
after i done the Windows 8.1 update my graphic card is giving me some problem.
occasionally my desktop become black for 1-2 seconds and the background disappears.
    I've update all drivers.
the problems started after the update to Windows 8.1

    Hey @jdudleyjones ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the card reader for your notebook is no longer working after updating to Windows 8.1.
You're probably right that it's a driver issue, however just like you I don't know which card reader you're using either.
Can you please tell me which notebook you have? For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
It would also help if you could tell me the Hardware ID for the card reader. Here's how you find it:
    Press Windows Key + X
    Click Device Manager
Click View at the top and select Show hidden devices.
You will most likely find the card reader listed under Other devices as an Unknown device.
Right click on it and select Properties.
    Select the Details tab.
Change the drop down menu to Hardware Ids.
Note down the first ID in the list (as you'll see they're all pretty much the same regarding the Ven_ and Dev_ numbers which is all I need).
Once you've provided this info I should be able to find the drivers for you.
Look forward to hearing back from you!
Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!
Please click "Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

  • Graphics card for After Effects?

Just getting into AE on CC, well. AE full stop, and trying to render 3D is painfully slow, I'm on an IMac 27 inch with
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Any advice out there dudes, do I need a better graphics card?
    Cheers,
    Simon

See this for details of how the GPU is (and isn't) used by After Effects:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2012/05/gpu-cuda-opengl-features-in-after-effects-cs6. html
When you say that "trying to render 3D is painfully slow", what exactly do you mean? Using Cinema 4D? Element 3D? The ray-traced 3D renderer?
If it's the last one that you're referring to (the ray-traced 3D renderer), I have to ask why you would be using that.
If it's Cinema 4D, then you need to focus on the CPU, not the GPU.
If it's Element 3D or Zaxwerks plug-ins, then it's OpenGL that you need to focus on.
By the way, if you're "just getting into" After Effects, then 3D is not the place to start. Start here to learn After Effects: http://adobe.ly/AE_basics

  • CCC and AMD graphics card failed after updating driver

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 6c-32eg laptop.
I recently tried to update my GPU driver, as this was required to run a particular program (oclHashcat, if you're interested). I downloaded the installer from here, and ran it. It appeared to run fine, but after the required restart, the screen resolution was set to 800x600, instead of the usual 1366x768. I then recieved an error message saying something along the lines of "Your AMD driver could not be installed as you do not have the required hardware". In Device Manager the GPU had something like "windows has stopped usinig this device as it reported an error".
If I try to open CCC, the program runs for several minutes, with a relatively high CPU usage shown in Task Manager, and then the message " Catalyst Control Center: Host Application has stopped working".
I have now tried various different methods of fixing this problem, none of which have worked. Attempting to download a driver from the AMD website didn't work, as the website said the driver was not appropriate for a computer with switchable graphics.
My laptop does not appear to be using the AMD GPU, as trying to run any games as a test causes them to run slowly and with minimal resolution.
My laptop has dual (switchable, from CCC) graphics:
-An AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT card, with a driver version 8.882.2.3000, and date 30/09/2011.
-And Intel HD Graphics Family, with, apparently, the same driver version and date as above. I am unable to find out exactly what kind of Intel GPU it is.
I also tried to update the Intel graphics driver, to see if this would fix the problem at all, but it made it worse: the screen became very red, and low resolution. I fixed this by reverting to a system restore point made just before. Sadly, I did not think to do this before originally updating drivers.
My question, then, is: how to I regain full usage of both graphics cards?

    Hi,
There may be a 3rd party option you could try for a more updated set of gpu drivers, however I'd first suggest getting your system back to a state where the switchable graphics function correctly.
    Try the System Restore first.
If that doesn't work, the AMD driver package ( containing both gpu drivers ) you require can be downloaded from HP on the following link.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55092.exe
Regarding being able to find a more updated set of drivers, a lot of people with your type of switchable graphics have had success with the offerings on the following 3rd party website - I would strongly recommend reading the Manual first to get an understanding of how this works and why driver signing enforcement will need to be disabled in order to load these drivers.

  • Graphics card issues after updates.

I've recently started experimenting with the 3D capabilities of Ps CS6 so was excited for the recent update. Frustratingly this update has removed all the functionality of 3D because of the vRAM of my graphics card (256mb). I'm in no posistion to replace my laptop and am gutted that all the 3D tools are unavailable having used them perfectly well days before. Is there any way to download a version of CS6 previous to the update which still allows me to work with the 3D functionality?!

I also think it is a bit strange that far more powerful 3d painting and modeling applications work without a hitch on 256mb vram (or even 128mb) systems, and Photoshop's 3d functionality misbehaves with less than 512mb vram. I understand that's what you get when you slap 3d on top of a 2d application that never was intended to perform well in 3d. Corners have to be cut somewhere.
On the other hand, Photoshop's 3d painting is quite limited and slow as it stands, so it is probably a better idea to use a different application that is more optimized for this task. IamRoss, try 3dCoat, Cinema4D (BodyPaint) or zBrush instead. Or for free: Blender, which is also a great 3d tool, and supports 3d painting (though not neary as powerful as the others - they're working on improving it).

  • Graphic card problems after last flash player update

    Hi,
since the last Adobe Flash Player my computer repeatedly either reboots itself, turns the screen black or crashes completely, giving a blue screen error message saying there is a problem with the ati2dvag.dll graphics driver, causing the graphic card to be in an infinite loop. Neither updating the graphics drivers nor deactivating the hardware acceleration solves the problem. Since we have the same problem on a second computer with identical hardware, I suppose it must be a software problem.
I´m using a Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2,66 GHz with 2 GB RAM. The graphic card is a ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. Operating system is Windows XP SP3
Is this a familiar problem and can anybody suggest any solution?
    Thx

Hi, I found the file but I'm still not sure what really happend.
First I followed a brodys advices (thanks!). Different was, that the flash player download looked really like the original from Adobe. It simply appeared as an update request as som many others as well. What I want to say is that I didn't go to a web site and downloaded it. In fact I think it was the original and everything was a coincidence.
The Mac OS version I run on the MacBook is 10.7.4! Nevertheless I installed the flashback trojan patch. But nothing happend.
With the remaining 300 Mb of diskspace I could operate at least a little.
There are three users on this macbook.
I logged in each of the user and found that in my daugther uses 160 GB. I found a file MOV_6007.AVI with a size of 148GB sitting in the recovered picture structure of the iphoto library.
My daugther told me that she was downloading movies from a dropbox folder and then she imported them into iphoto. She did it using the finder, selecting them and dropped them onto the iphoto icon in the dock.
Whatever happend later I have no idea. The Macbook was running during the night. The next morning I used it to read news and at this time I accepted the adobe flash upgrade.
In the system log files I found an entry that showed I had about 8GB of disk space free at this time. It should have been about 160GB. So somehow this file grew already that much during the night.
And it obviously grew further until I got the disk full message minutes later.
It is scary! So what I did now is delete the file and it seems the Macbook is ok again.
I wanted to tell this long story as it is probably something new and somebody else had a similar issue already.
