Vista/Palm Lifedrive Incompatibility

First I'd like to express my upset over older Palms not being support under Vista.  I've been the owner of 5 Palms over the years.  Perhaps it's time to move on.
That having been said, I read on a thread somewhere where one installs the 6.2 software and then a patch from Pimlico Vista should be able to sync with older Palms.
I installed all of that and plugged my Palm into the USB cradle only to have Vista go looking for drivers, which, of course, it couldn't find.
So, I'm still stuck with being unable to sync my Lifedrive with my Vista OS computer.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Gary

Gary, I wrote a thread explaining how to sync a TX with Vista64 via Wifi.  Should be close to your LifeDrive.

    Please help me!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It's not clear how you attempted to configure your MacBook to support LifeDrive synchronization, but there are several important steps to follow.
You should install the version of the Palm Desktop which came bundled on a CD-ROM with your Palm device. Other versions do not necessarily contain the appropriate resources or offer full support for the LifeDrive.
You must create a Bluetooth pairing between for device and your MacBook, initiating it from the LifeDrive and confirming it from the Macintosh.
You add a LifeDrive—or any other supported Palm device—to iSync using the option labeled Enable Palm OS Syncing… under the Devices menu in iSync, and not with the Add Device… option.
Your initial synchronization will allow you to merge data between your LifeDrive and your MacBook, or overwrite the data on your Palm device. If you can do so, you should choose to overwrite it.

  • Transfer data from Palm LifeDrive to Palm Treo Pro (Unlocked)

Hi, as it says in the title, i want to transfer data from Palm LifeDrive to Palm Treo Pro, how can i do that? do i need a special software?
    Thank you in advance.

Post relates to: Treo Pro T850U (Unlocked)

You can do this 2 different ways. You can set your Palm Desktop software to sync to Outlook, and then sync your LifeDrive to outlook. You would then be able to just sync the Outlook data to you Treo Pro. The other option would be to purchase Chapura Pocket Copy software, and this will copy the data in the Palm DT application to Outlook. Once again you would just sync your Treo Pro to Outlook. You can get the Pocket Copy application from Chapura.com

  • Palm Lifedrive and iPaq H5550 transfer of data

I have finally managed to get my Palm Lifedrive to synch with my Windows 7 (64 bit) desktop using the Aceeca.com patches to the drivers. But I figure that my Lifedrive is really too obsolete now and I need to upgrade as some day it might just die on me.  I don't want a smart phone so was contemplating buying an HP iPaq H5550 as a PDA.
Does anybody know if it is possible to export  my Contacts and Memos lists from  Palm Desktop on my computer  across to  an iPaq H5550.  I have hundreds of memos and contacts and cannot face inputting them in manually again.
    Any advice would be welcome.
    many thanks

Since the iPaq is a WinMob device, switch your sync conduit to Outlook (if you have the program on your computer).
    Start Button/All Programs/PIM Conduit Sync/Sync with Outlook.
WinMob devices use Outlook as their PIM manager.

  • Windows Vista & Palm Centro 690 not talking to each other

After my other phone went through the wash machine I changed to a this Palm unit.  Activated it, came home and installed the sync software, worked fine.  Couple of days later tried to sync again, no such luck.  I have been working off and on for a couple of weeks trying to get it to work again!!!  I have talked to the local Verizon office, they suggested I talk to tech support.  Called them, spent over an hour on the phone with them uninstalling the software, again, download the new software, again, still nothing, did a reset and a format and again nothing.  Have been using the Palm as a regular phone and it is fine.  I have been unable to figure out what to do.  I even talked to Hp tech support, not their problem!!! talk to the palm people.  So here I am, I have looked through your forms but was unable to locate anything that is related to the Centro and Vista.  I am almost willing to try anything that seems reasonable.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    From the bottom up.
Palmdestop 6.2, on a 32bit HP Pavillion a1740n, When I plug the usb cable into the phone I hear a "dull thud" like and error, then it just repeats it self. I was able to find this information the other evening:
Problem Event Name: - PnP Driver Not Found
    Architecture: - x86
    Hardware ID: - USB\VID_0830&PID_0061&REV_0200
    OS Version: - 6.0.6001.2.10.768.3
    Locale ID: - 1033
Hopefully this means something to you, as it doesn't to me.  Additionally last night I was trying to install new drivers through device manager from the CD, but the machine reported that what I have is current, as well as the dialogue boxes go by so fast that it is next to impossible to do anything, such as change the path.
Thanks, for your response and I hope you come up with a solution.

  • Palm Lifedrive wont sync. PC doesn't recognize USB

    Hi,
I'm having a problem hotsyncing my lifedrive. It's worked fine up until now, but all of a sudden, it won't connect. The PC isn't recognizing that I've plugged the cradle in through my USB ports. I've tried this on 2 computers now and still no luck. The metal connectors look clean and dirt free, so I'm at a loss as to what the problem might be.
Thanks in advance for the help,
    TristanD
    Post relates to: LifeDrive

I've tried the hotsync guides and still nothing. However, I decided to try to set up a wireless sync, and it worked like a charm. Since my cradle is still not syncing, I'm leaning towards a physical problem with the connections. Should I talk to Palm to try to get it replaced?

  • ISync Failure working with Missing Sync and Palm Lifedrive

Since the begining of March I have failed to peform a sync between my Palm and G4 Powerbook via Missing Sync v5.2.1
What happens is that a Sync is launched from my Palm cradle which is picked up by my G4, the dialogie suggests that things are being synchronised, but at the end on viewing my Sync History, I get errors reporting that databases on my palm can't be opened. Missing Syncs own conduits for iCal and AB report that they have been 'unregistered'.
Last night I attempted a sync with just 1 conduit active at a time and all failed.
I bought BackUpBuddy, but this two has failed to sync.
Markspace have suggested that I 'reset sync histories' which I have attempted to do. For this I need to open iSync first, however iSync quits during launch.
Anybody got any ideas on how to resolve this? TIA

Now that the response is reposted above, this thread makes more sense…
The (0x400a) errors generally, coupled with an inability to open files on your handheld, suggests that you have insufficient memory on board to perform these tasks. There are several other issues involved, however, so you should address each one by simplifying your configuration to avoid the most obvious ones.
For the time being, turn off the following conduits which do not report errors:
    • Install
    • Life Balance
    • Mark/Space Conduit for iTunes
    • Mark/Space Conduit for iTunes
    • ChronosNotes
    • BackupBuddy
Do that simply by un-checking them in the main window of the Missing Sync for Palm OS. You might want to attempt once again to synchronize, just to determine if anything has changed as a result of turning off these working conduits.
Also, turn off the following failing conduits:
    • Mark/Space Folder Sync
    • Voice Memo
    • Documents To Go*
    • Media
    • Trip
Some may be incompatible with your your LifeDrive, or not properly configured for use with it. See the article below, for example, with regard to the Mark/Space Folder Sync conduit with it:
    http://www.markspace.com/support/kb.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2553
To avoid some obvious problems with your LifeDrive and the conduits presently installed, you should install the LifeDrive Update 2.0 is you have not already done so. *Among other things, it contains a Documents to Go update:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/lifedrive/lifedrive_update.html
You must follow the instructions provided by Palm carefully, as the procedure removes all of the data from your device. Insure that your data is backed up elsewhere before performing this update.
Before attempting to update your LifeDrive, follow these instructions to determine if you need to:
Find out if your LifeDrive device includes the latest LifeDrive Update software
    • on your LifeDrive, press <Home> twice, until the Applications Launcher—not Favorites—appears
    • tap <Menu>
    • from the <App> menu, select <Info>
    • at the bottom of the screen, select <Version>
Look for the application named WiFiLib [HINT: scroll down below the <Wi-Fi> items to <WiFi> with no hyphen.]
    If the version number is…
    • 1.0.6, 1.0.5 or below: you don't have the latest LifeDrive update. Install it
    • 1.0.7: you already have the latest LifeDrive Update. Do not install it again.
Had you not needed to install this update and perform the resulting reset, I would have recommended that you perform a soft reset to see if that procedure resolves any of your issues.

  • Palm LifeDrive won't connect

    Hi all,
I have just replaced my old Airport Extreme 'mushroom' base station (802.11b/g) with one of those brick shaped ones (802.11n). I have configured it to use b/g compatibilty mode, but I have no luck connecting my LD to it. The PDA detects the network and shows it in the available networks list, but when I try to select it, it just says 'no connection'. I have tried enabling/disabling the MAC address control of the Base, and enabling/disabling password security also, but even with all restrictions disabled, the LD still acts the same.
    Any clue?

    HSF58,
Is your PC an HP brand?
If it is, it is probably 64bit Vista and you will not be able to sync your device using the USB cable. To verify the Windows version, go to computer, right click and go to properties. You should see the version number on that screen.
If you have 64bit Vista, you can do a Bluetooth hotsync.

  • Palm LifeDrive Died after Soft Reset

I recently did a reset on my LifeDrive; but now I can not turn it on. while it's in the charger base the power icon shows orange like its charging; however it will not power on. does anyone know how to reset the battery or anything that will help will greatly be appreciated. Also while I place it in the charger base it always was recognized by my PC; Now however it does not even recognize it? any thoughts moderators, or anyone for that matter.

It's possible the Hard Drive has failed on the device.  They were a bit fragile.
If you've performed all the resets as mentioned above, then it may be a hardware failure.  Usedpdaparts.com offers a repair for $80 that removes the hard drive, and replaces it with a Compact Flash socket and 4GB memory card.  PalmOS is then reloaded on it, producing a better unit than what Palm made!

  • Need help to find a Good Task Manager for my Palm LifeDrive

    No device
    Hello All,
I like many others now have a phone that does everything, and there in lies the problem..
It does scheduling, e-mail, browses the web, plays games, wakes me in the a.m., and yes makes calls.
But LIFE was conflicting with everything tucked into the phone.....
So I went back and dug out my LifeDrive, charged it, installed the Software on my home computer did a few sync's Cleaned, Cleaned, and Cleaned some more.....
Added, added, corrected, added, corrected well you get it.
Now I have a great handheld to manage all of the Personal items Kids events, School, activities, and even one or two for myself
What I need now is a Good Task Manager other than Outlook, I used Franklin in the past and liked it as I need to set a goal and break it up into smaller handlable items all towards completing the main Goal/Task.
I have 2 that I am working on each will be at least a year in length this is why I need smaller tasks to get the larger complete and stay on target.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS?
    Thanks

i thought about going the same route you did, but when I started looking at the prices of everything, I decided it was a better idea to just get a new stereo that can play and charge my iPhone.
After a lot of comparing, looking and price checking, I decided to go with the Alpine IDA-X100. This is a media player only device (no cd player built in) and it has been great. It has an awesome interface and dial setup that let's you go through your music just as if it were on an iPod. It even has a small color screen that displays the album artwork for you. My car has a factory BOSE system in it and the Alpine head unit even managed to improve the sound quality. Go see you local alpine dealer (or best buy) and check it out. The supplied cable charges the phone and plays music too. Your iPhone will give you an error message when you plug it in, saying that the accessory was not designed for iPhone, but if you just click no it works great.

  • Can't find my data file to back up, so I can uninstall and reinstall the software. (Windows, Vista & Palm version 6.0.1)

I can't find my data file, in order to back it up.  After going to Documents - Palm One, the only thing that looks like a user name is a file with no data.  Somewhere there has to be another file with all my data, since data is available when I open the Palm One software on my computer.  After backing it up, I want to uninstall and reinstall the Palm One software.  I'm hoping this resolves my inabilty hot sync.  Thanks!  Lauraflavin.

The simplest way is to use Handbrake on the Mac to rip and encode it. On the Palm, I'd suggest TCPMP as the video player. Just be aware that doing so with copy-protected DVDs is technically illegal in the US.

I am puzzled as to why you would think a malfunctioning drive would cause you to downgrade your system, but my guess is it won't work.
If you can't see it to format it in Disk utility then it is bad and should be returned.

    Hi hudgie,
There's any number of situations that occur when a HD fails, having worked at one of those "Genius Bars" for a while I can honestly say that there's no across the board, failure indication. Some of the more common indicates were:
1.) Startup to a flashing folder with question mark
    2.) Loud clicking/grinding noise
    3.) No noise/responsiveness from drive
4.) System bus lockup / inability to launch startup manager / inability to boot from external source
It sounds like you're dealing with situation #4. When my HD failed in my MacBook Pro it did the same thing, the drive would lock up the startup sequence and prevent me from doing anything. When I removed the HD and attempted to boot from an external source it would then startup just fine.
I personally don't think you're dealing with a logic board issue, but the only way to confirm that would be to connect another HD to the drive connection and try to boot the machine. If the issue persists I'd even go so far as to replace the SATA connection cable and then point a finger at the logic board.
Apple offers a "flat rate" repair service for machines out of warranty but with no accidental damage, I believe the price runs about ~$350. If you're just replacing a HD or the SATA cable and drive it's much cheaper to do it yourself. If you determine that the logic board is the point of failure, then I'd go the route of having Apple do it for you. Especially because the repair service grants you a 90-day limited warranty on the machine.

  • What's the best way to back up my PIM from Lifedrive to new Vista laptop?

Nothing Palm related is installed on this laptop yet, which is running 32-bit Vista.  Lifedrive used mainly for contacts, calendar, photos, few games, and Docs to Go files.  I don't use Outlook - used to use Lotus Notes but no longer - no need to access email of any type on the PDA (currently).
What is recommended for a trouble-free sync of calendar and contacts to a simple PIM program like Palm Desktop - and which program/version?
